JAY, Okla. - Gwen Roberts, 73, Jay, died at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 1997, at a nursing home in Grove after a long illness.
Miss Roberts was born March 21, 1923, in Delaware County.
She lived in the Jay area all her life.
She was a Baptist.
Survivors include a sister, Jackie Sternke, Sand Springs.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Jay.
The Rev. Loyd Crawford will officiate.
Burial will be in Fairland (Okla.) Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hinderliter-Woodard Funeral Home, Jay.
Contributions may be made to St. John's Hospice of Grove.
Chester Wyrick
AFTON, Okla. - Chester Leroy Wyrick, 64, 103 N.W. First St., died late Tuesday, March 11, 1997, at his home of a sudden illness.
Mr. Wyrick was born April 21, 1932, at Council Bluffs, Iowa.
He moved to Afton in 1970 from Council Bluffs.
He retired from the street department in Miami.
He was a member of the House of Prayer Church, Fairland.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Wayne Wyrick, Vinita, and John Wyrick, Miami; a daughter, Kathy Childers, Pryor; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Jim Thomas Funeral Home, Afton.
Burial will be in Sixkiller Cemetery.
Donald Dungan
MIAMI, Okla. - Services for Donald Marris Dungan, 82, 409 Bay Street, who died Sunday, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
The Rev. Nathan Chamberlain and the Rev. Ervin Maltbie will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, northwest of Treece, Kan.
Pallbearers will be Richard Frank, Charles Frank, Darrell Frank, Don Hefley, Philip Alsbaugh and Neil Wells.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Daniel Botts
MIAMI, Okla. - Daniel Elroy "Danny" Botts, 60, Miami, died at 3 p.m. Friday, March 7, 1997, at Baptist Regional Health Center, Miami, after a sudden illness.
Mr. Botts was born Aug. 22, 1936, at Wyandotte.
He lived in the Miami area all of his life and was a graduate of Miami High School.
He was a race horse trainer.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Miami, the Miami Horseman's Association and the National Horsemen's Benevolence Protective Association.
He married Eleanor Wojohn on June 25, 1953, at Fairland; she survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Jerry Botts, Carl Junction, Mo.; a daughter, Deborah Dean, Stillwater; two brothers, John Botts, Owasso, and Robert Botts, Monroeville, Ind.; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
Bill Evans
GROVE, Okla. - William R. "Bill" Evans, 79, Grove, died at 1:10 a.m. Friday, March 7, 1997, at Grove General Hospital after an illness.
Mr. Evans was born May 18, 1917, in the state of Michigan. He was a dairy farmer.
He moved to Fairview, Mo., in 1940 from Kansas City, Mo.
He moved to Grove in 1977.
He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
He married Lillian J. Robbins on April 26, 1937, at Kansas City. She died Aug. 3, 1987.
Surviving are two sons, Edward Evans, Winnemucca, Nev., and Gary Evans, Cape Girardeau, Mo.; a daughter, Veloria Wittenburg, Reno, Nev.; a brother, Harry Evans, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Neosho (Mo.) IOOF Cemetery. Elder
Allen Lacey will officiate.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
Georgia Higinbotham
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Georgia V. Higinbotham, 77, Fairland, died at 12:15 a.m. Friday, March 7, 1997, at her home after an illness.
Mrs. Higinbotham was Oct. 29, 1919, in Fairland and was a lifetime resident.
She was a homemaker and a charter member of the First Assembly of God Church, Fairland.
She married Ralph J. Higinbotham on Dec. 6, 1938, at Miami; he survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Don Higinbotham, Seneca, Mo., and Ralph D. Higinbotham, Broken Arrow; three sisters, Anna Coffee and Cecelia Croan, both of Fairland, and Willie Spurgeon, the state of California; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Adcock Funeral Home, Fairland.
The casket will be closed at all times.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. John's Hospice of Grove, in care of the funeral home.
Herman Thornbrough
GROVE, Okla. - Herman A. Thornbrough, 78, Grove, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 1997, at Baptist Regional Health Center, Miami, after a long illness.
Mr. Thornbrough was born June 9, 1918, at Memphis, Tenn.
He moved to Grove in 1968 from Miami.
He worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad at Wichita and Coffeyville, Kan., for Dollar Tire in Coffeyville, and for Miami Sales in Miami.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Neodesha, Kan.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
He married Phyllis Metzger on Feb. 9, 1946, at Wichita, Kan.
She is his only immediate survivor.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hinderliter-Woodard Funeral Chapel, Grove.
The Rev. Mike Chace will officiate.
Graveside services and burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kan.
