Martha Meader
GROVE, Okla. - Martha A. Meader, 88, Grove, died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, at 8:30 a.m. at a Grove nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. Meader was born Oct. 3, 1908 at Elkhart, Kan. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star for 47 years in Kincaid, Kan.
She married Albert E. Meader on Dec. 10, 1930, at Garnett, Kan. He died May 27, 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Moberly, Grove; a brother, Albert Riley, Garnett, Kan; three sisters, Letha McBribe, Orlando, Fla.; Pearl Green, state of Kansas; Evelyn Hickenbottom, Loma Linda, Calif.; a grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove. The Rev. Gary Benjamin will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Mildred, Kan.
Georgia Tipton
GROVE, Okla. - Georgia Hiawatha Tipton, 83, Grove, died at 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, at Grove General Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Tipton was born Feb. 1, 1914, at the Hickory Grove Community. She lived in Nauvoo, Ill., for 45 years before moving to Grove in 1942. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies' Auxiliary in the state of California.
She married James Leon Tipton in 1944 in the state of California. He died in 1983.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hickry Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Dolphus Blevins will officiate.
Services are under the direction Hinderliter-Woodard Funeral Service, Grove.
Clarence Heistand
PICHER, Okla. - Clarence R. Heistand, 71, 417 S. Emily St., died at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 1997, at Baptist Regional Health Center, Miami, after a long illness.
Mr. Heistand was born Sept. 12, 1925, at Columbus, Kan. He had lived in Picher for 12 years. He had worked for Yellow Transit, Baxter Springs, Kan., for 15 years. He also had worked as a lead and zinc miner at Picher. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Glenda F. Flowers, Topeka, Kan.; two sons, Danny Ray Heistand, Moran, Kan. and Kenneth Wayne Heistand, Mineral Point, Mo.; two brothers, Fred C. Heistand and Frank Heistand, both of Columbus, Kan.; two sisters, Margie Jones, Riverton, Kan. and Shirley Whitely, Baxter Springs; and two grandchildren.
A daughter preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Paul Thomas Chapel, Picher. The Rev. Leonard Stoner will officiate. Burial will be in GAR Cemetery, Miami. Northeast Oklahoma Funeral Detail will conduct military rites at the graveside.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Picher.
Minnie Ellison
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Minnie Erma Ellison, 84, Fairland, died Wednesday morning, March, 5, 1997, at a residential care center in Foyil after a long illness.
Mrs. Ellison was born April 29, 1912, at Putnam. She moved to Fairland in 1949 from Wyandotte. She was graduated from Wyandotte High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairland United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Floyd Samuel Ellison, died March 16, 1964.
Survivors include two daughters, Nellie J. Hargrave, Berryville, Ark., and Mary N. Washburn, Big Cabin; three sons, Kenneth C. Ellison, Tulsa, Curtis Ellison, Aurora, Ill., and Walter S. Ellison, Green Bay, Wis.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home, Fairland.
Irene Foss
COMMERCE, Okla. - Irene Margaret Foss, 83, 212 N. Quincy St., died at 12:10 p.m. Monday, March 3, 1997, at Baptist Regional Medical Center, Miami, after a short illness.
Mrs. Foss was born Sept. 10, 1913, at Conover, Iowa. She moved to the Commerce area in 1957 from El Dorado, Kan. She was an owner of the A.W. Drive-In in Miami from 1958 to 1977.
She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Miami, where she taught preschool for 11 years, was active in the Ruth Guild and Altar Committee, and taught Sunday school for more than 50 years.
She married Alvin J. Foss in 1938. He died Oct. 19, 1970.
Survivors include two sons, Allan D. Foss, North Miami, and Donald R. Foss, Circle Pines, Minn.; a daughter, Norma J. Delong, Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Jean O'Hare, Waukon, Iowa, and Erma Swatek, Decorah, Iowa; two brothers, Elmer Phillips, Marion, Iowa, and Ernest Phillips, Decorah; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Miami. The Rev. Don Kirchhoff will officiate. Burial will be in GAR Cemetery, Miami.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
Jack Cooper
Jack Cooper, 79, Hide-A-Way Lake, Lindale, Texas, a former Joplin, MO resident, died Monday, June 2, 1997, at his home after an illness.
Mr. Cooper was born Jan. 5, 1918, at Tar River, Okla., and spent his younger years in Joplin. He was a member of the Hide-A-Way security force for several years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Cooper.
Survivors include his second wife, Trudie Fae Cooper; three daughters, Vicki Cooper, Powell, Ohio, Pat Whitaker, Ashville, N.C., and Jane Comstock, Naples, Fla.; two sisters, Alberta McDaniel, Joplin, and Helen Baird, Grove, Okla.; a brother, Frank Cooper, Miller; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home, Lindale, with Ray Bratcher, pastor, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to Hospice of East Texas.
John Yancer
John Amos Yancer, 79, Broken Arrow, Okla., a former Joplin resident, died at 7 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, at his home after a short illness.
Mr. Yancer was born Jan. 14, 1918, at Mexico, N.Y. He moved with his family to Carthage, where he graduated from high school in 1937. He had worked for Douglas Aircraft in California, where he attended engineering schools. He later studied engineering at Texas Tech University. He was employed with several heavy equipment companies in Australia, the Philippine Islands, Africa and Canary Islands. He retired in 1984 from DART Trucking Lines.
He was a 50-year member and past worshipful master of Joplin Lodge No. 335. AF&AM.; He was a former member of Scottish Rite Bodies and Joplin Shrine Club. He was a veteran of World War II.
He married Vera M. Cline in 1937 in Idaho. She died Oct. 31, 1965.
Survivors include a son, John Craig Yancer, Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Marguerite Sharp, 1808 Murphy Blvd.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
Masonic services will be conducted by Joplin Lodge No. 335, AF&AM.;
Pallbearers will be Craig Yancer, Justin Yancer, David Ruff, W.L. "Bud" Gehrs, Mike Garrigan and Stuart Crawford.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
