PLANO, Texas — Graveside services for Cloteal E. Deaton, 90, Plano, formerly of Ada, Okla., are 2 p.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Deaton died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at her home. She was born July 21, 1914, at Pecan Gap, Texas, to Matthew Henry and Lillian Gertrude Whiteside Houchin. She graduated from Milburn, Okla., high school.
She married Sterling H. Deaton Dec. 23, 1933, at Milburn. He died in 1985. She and her family lived in Harlingen from 1946 until 1978. They lived in Ada from 1978 to 1981 and later moved to Plano in 1984.
Mrs. Deaton was a day care director of three nurseries in Harlingen. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Harlingen, First Baptist Church in Ada and Central Baptist Church in Plano.
Survivors include a son, Sterling Deaton, Plano; two grandchildren, Kay Lynn Tucker, Plano, and Stephen Wayne Deaton, Plano; and one great-grandson, Colton Don Tucker, Plano.

CHICKASHA — Graveside services for J. C. Kirk, 90, Chickasha, formerly of Ada, are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rosedale Cemetery, the Rev. Ray Talbott will officiate.
Mr. Kirk died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at a Chickasha nursing home. He was born Aug. 7, 1914, at Ada to P. K and Mary Ellen Rice Kirk. He moved to Chickasha in 1995 from Ada.
Mr. Kirk was the owner and operator of an auto repair business in Ada for many years. He was a member of Oak Avenue Baptist Church.
He married Ruby Estelle Barton. She died April 21, 1981. He later married Geneva Mae Dawson. She died Dec. 22, 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Arletta Blankenship and husband Denial A., Chickasha; four grandchildren, Irvin LaGuardia, Denial R. Blankenship, John LaGuardia and Dana LaGuardia; and one great-granddaughter, Jessica Blankenship. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty LaGuardia; one brother, Othel Kirk; four sisters, Pearl Evans, Bertha Fowler, Eva Tuttle and Viola Cape.

ADA — Graveside services for Mary Mildred Vandergriff, 92, Ada, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, are 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at Liberty Hill Cemetery, near Mt. Pleasant, the Revs. Fred Huffman and Darrell Phillips will officiate. Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. today at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Vandergriff died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004 at a local nursing home. She was born Nov. 7, 1911, at Argo, Texas, to I. R. and Ada Ellis Smith. She attended Argo and Cooper’s Chapel School in Texas.
She married William Jefferson Vandergriff. He died May 14, 1944. Mrs. Vandergriff was an inspector for Campbell Soup Company in Sacramento, Calif., retiring in 1973. She then moved to Ada in 1973. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include four daughters, Marilyn L. Hearrell, Ada, Mary Bazzell and husband Charles, Ada, Billie E. Brown and husband Robert, Ada, and Marie McDaniel, Moody, Ala.; one son, Ken Vandergriff, Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Carson died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at Ada. He was born July 30, 1976, at Ada to Ted and LaNelda Sales Carson. He lived in this area all his life and graduated from Ada High School in 1995, where he starred in football and baseball. He was employed as an oil field technician.
Survivors include his mother, LaNelda Carson, Ada; father, Ted Carson, Ada; three brothers, “Teddy” Ted Carson Jr. and wife Melanie, Ada, Scotty Carson, Ada, and twin brother, Bronc Carson, North Carolina; one sister, Angie Dewbery and her husband Victor, McAlester; five nieces, Alyssa Carson, Taylor Canida, Taylor Dewbery, Meghan Dewbery and Sarah Carson; and two nephews, Cody Canida and Dalton Carson.
Bearers are Bruce Sutton, Tanner Landrum, C. W. Cook, Brian Anoatubby, Bryce Gouge and Brennan Gouge.
Honorary bearers are Anthony Cain, Christi Cain and Knuckles Seals.

McKINNEY, Texas — Services for Betsy Carol Wood, 70, McKinney, are 1:30 p.m. today at High Pointe Church of Christ in McKinney, with Dr. Michael Lewis officiating.
She died Sept. 20, 2004, near Sherman. She was born to W.A. and Ruby Brookins Sept. 4, 1934, in McAlester, Okla.
After graduating from McAlester High School in 1953, Mrs. Wood completed her bachelor’s of science degree at the University of North Texas in Denton, graduating Cum Laude. She taught elementary school for 25 years in Texas and Louisiana.
She married James R. Wood Oct. 6, 1953, in Ada, Okla., where they were students at East Central State College.
She was a member of High Pointe Church of Christ in McKinney.
Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her parents, W.A. and Ruby Brookins; brother Bill Brookins, and sister Jane Crowell. Her daughter, Lisa Martin, and three grandsons, Chance, Brock and Reid Martin, died in the same automobile accident that killed Mrs. Wood.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. James R. Wood, McKinney. sons Ronald Wood of Washington, D.C., and Roger Wood, Tyler; daughter Laura Lokey; son-in-law Jason Lokey; and grandchildren Kaley, Jay and Landry Lokey,Farmersville.
