Pyrle Bullington
GROVE, Okla. - Pyrle Bullington, 97, Grove, died at 10:44 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at a Grove nursing center after a long illness.
Ms. Bullington was born Dec. 18, 1899, at Enterprise, Ark. She worked as a title analyst for Oryx Energy Co., retiring in 1963. She moved to Grove in 1970 from Tulsa.
There are no immediate survivors.
The body is to be cremated. No service is planned.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hinderliter-Woodard Funeral Service Grove.
Josephine Carter
GROVE, Okla. - Josephine Carter, 83, Grove, died at 5:58 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 1997, in a Grove nursing center after a long illness.
Mrs. Carter was born April 2, 1913, at St. Joseph, Mo. She worked as an inspector. She moved to Grove in 1979 from Tulsa.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Tulsa.
She married John Carter on Sept. 16, 1979, at Tulsa. He survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Sharlyn Corvin, Broken Arrow; a sister, Catheryn Comfort, Bartlesville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The body is to be cremated. No services are planned.
Arrangement are under the direction of Hinderliter-Woodard Funeral Service, Grove.
Matt Chuck
MIAMI, Okla. - Matt F. Chuck, 92, Miami, died at 8:20 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at Baptist Regional Health Center, Miami, after a long illness.
Mr. Chuck was born July 4, 1904, in the state of North Dakota. He moved to Oklahoma in 1931. He co-owned and operated the East Central Barber Shop in Miami for 63 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Miami, where he was a deacon and elder for several years.
He married Thresa James in 1928 in North Dakota. She died in 1962.
He is survived by a sister, Mary Babock, Seattle, Wash.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Jim Thomas Funeral Home, Miami. Leon Weece, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in GAR Cemetery, Miami.
Contributions may be made to the First Christian Church building fund in care of the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Fred Kerby, Mike Nelson, Paul Watts, Bill Christensen, Homer Johnson and Calvin Foust.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Jack Wynn
MIAMI, Okla. - William "Jack" Wynn, 71, 1430 D St. N.E., died at 3:47 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, at Baptist Regional Health Center, Miami, after a short illness.
Mr. Wynn was born Nov. 19, 1925, at Harrison, Ark. He had lived in the Miami area most of his life. He was a maintenance worker and pipe fitter at B.F. Goodrich, Miami, retiring after 21 years.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Sue Stripling, Miami; a sister, Irene Woods, Oklahoma City; two half brothers, Ed Wynn and Elmer "Bud" Wynn, both of Miami; a half sister, Jeanette Miller, Miami; a grandchild; a great-grandchild.
Arrangements are pending with Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
Bill Arnold
PICHER, Okla. - William "Bill" Arnold, 89, Picher, died at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at a Commerce nursing home after a long illness.
Mr. Arnold was born April 25, 1907, in Douglas County, Mo. He was a longtime Picher area resident. He was a retired lead and zinc miner and had worked for the Frisco Railroad. He was a member of Holden's Church in Picher.
Survivors include three sisters, Martha Schopeppel, Vista, Calif., and Dorothy Johnson Bell and Jewel Brown, both of Baxter Springs, Kan.
Services are pending with Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Picher.
Amanda Childers
MIAMI, Okla. - Amanda Jo Childers, 19, 827 O N.W., Miami, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, after a long illness.
Miss Childers was born Dec. 25, 1977, in Miami. She was a lifetime Miami area resident. She was a student at Miami High School and a member of the First Assembly of God church in Miami.
Survivors include her mother, Blossom Childers, of the home; her father, Jim Childers, Fairland; and two sisters, Michelle Williams, Columbus, Kan., and Melissa Keith, Tiff City, Mo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Assembly of God. The Rev. Gerald Baser will officiate. Burial will be in Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens, Miami.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
Roger Hammond
GROVE, Okla. - Roger Lee Hammond, 66, Grove, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Hammond was born April 25, 1930, at Oklahoma City. He attended schools in Fairland and Seneca, Mo., and was graduated in 1948 from Seneca High School.
He moved to Grove in 1975 from Seneca.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, Seneca.
He married Shirley Lee Johnson on Aug. 31, 1951, at Bentonville, Ark. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Dennis Hammond, Grove; a daughter, Rhonda Malone, Grove; a sister, Aleta Holt, Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Elk River Baptist Church, ‘-mile south of the Elk River bridge on Highway 10. The Rev. Dan Dareing will officiate. Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Elk River Baptist Church, Grove.
Arrangements are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.
Jamie Miles
GROVE, Okla. - Jamie Geraldine Miles, 67, Grove, died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at Grove General Hospital after an illness.
Mrs. Miles was born Jan. 25, 1929, at Rock Creek, Texas.
She had worked at Red River Army Depot, near Rock Creek. She retired in 1989.
She was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church.
She married Jeff Miles on Dec. 18, 1980, at Texarkana, Texas. He survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Jefferson Miles, Montezuma Creek, Utah, and William Miles, Grove; two daughters, Deborah Pendergraft, Grove, and Margaret Beesley, Jay; a brother, John Gay, Maud, Texas; a sister, Yavonne Benton, Cedar Hill, Texas; 18 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery, Shawnee. The Rev. Jim Benton will officiate.
