Ella Leake
BERNICE, Okla. - Ella Rosalie Leake, 74, 405 Cherokee Drive, died at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at Baptist Regional Health Center, Miami, after a long illness.
Mrs. Leake was born Feb. 24, 1922, at Cleora.
She was a 1940 graduate of Miami High School.
She had worked for the Safeway Company for 25 years.
She was a member of Bernice Baptist Church.
She married Jack E. Leake on Aug. 4, 1940, at Neosho, Mo. He survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, Jack K. Leake, Girard, Kan., Wayne Leake, Webb City, Mo., and James Leake, Miami; a brother, Ken Lunday, Durant; three sisters, Josephine Moss and Deece Langston, both of Cleora, and Dorothy Spaulding, Winsboro, Texas; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the home of James Leake, 62600 E. Highway 137, Miami.
Arrangements are pending with Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home, Miami.
Helen van Uden
MIAMI, Okla. - Helen van Uden, 83, 729 L St. N.W., died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at a nursing home in Joplin, Mo., after an illness.
Mrs. van Uden was born Feb. 17, 1913, in the Turkey Ford community, south of Wyandotte.
She moved to the Miami area 20 years ago from the state of California.
She owned and operated Helen's Barbecue at Seneca, Mo., during the 1940s.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God Seventh Day, Joplin.
She married Earl van Uden on June 28, 1947, at Carson City, Nev. He survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Sharron Munro, Livingston, Mont., and Doris Velez, Windsor, Calif.; a brother, John Murphy, Miami; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
Charles Weaver
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Charles C. Weaver, 81, 22400 S. 560 Road, Fairland, died at 3:54 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997, at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, Mo., after a long illness.
Mr. Weaver was born March 29, 1915, in Alexandria, S.D.
He moved to Welch from Alexandria in 1933.
He was a retired merchant, having owned and operated Weaver Hardware, Fairland, from 1947 until 1977.
He was a member and deacon of Fairland First Baptist Church.
He married Elaine High on June 23, 1937.
She died Feb. 18, 1978.
He married Venice J. "Penny" Murphy on March 13, 1993, at Miami.
She survives.
Additional survivors include four sons, George E. Weaver, Fairland, James C. Weaver, Garland, Texas, and Jerry Murphy and Marion Murphy, both of Elko, Nev.; a daughter, Danella White, Galena, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great- grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home, Fairland.
The family will be at 335 W. Ritter St., Fairland.
Margie Arment
ENID, Okla. - Margie Eilene Alice Arment, 70, Enid, died at 8:25 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, at St. Mary's Mercy Hospital in Enid, after a short illness.
Mrs. Arment was born March 16, 1926, in Neosho.
She was a homemaker and had lived in Webb City, Mo., Carl Junction, Mo., Joplin Mo., St. Joseph, Mo., Topeka, Kan., Lawrence, Kan., Sioux City, Iowa, and Enid.
She married Clayton Arment on March 31, 1946, in Columbus, Kan.
He survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Arment, St. Joseph, and Vicki Arment, Enid; five brothers, Lloyd Bowling, Jamestown, Calif., Claude Bowling and Donald Bowling, both of Neosho, Mo., Henry Bowling, Granby, Mo., and Roy Gene Bowling, Pittsburg, Kan.; three sisters, Maxine Martinez, Neosho, Juanita McDaniel, Joplin, and Edna Dale, Carterville, Mo.; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Christian Church in Carl Junction.
The Rev. Boyce Mouton will officiate.
Burial will be in Carl Junction Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home in Enid.
Contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Diabetes Division, in care of the funeral home.
Joe Bruce Cahill
WYANDOTTE, Okla. - Joe Bruce Cahill, 44, Wyandotte, was pronounced dead on arrival at 6:36 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, at Northwest Medical Center, Springdale, Ark., after he suffered an apparent heart attack while driving between Huntsville, Ark., and Alpena, Ark., on Highway 412.
Mr. Cahill was born June 30, 1952 in Joplin, Mo.
He moved to Wyandotte in May 1996.
He had been a sales representative for Pierce Chemical Co. in Dallas, Texas.
He was graduated from Webb City (Mo.) High School and had attended the University of Missouri at Columbia, Oklahoma State University at Stillwater and Connors State College, Warner.
He was graduated in 1981 from Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science and was vice president of his class.
He was a member of Pi Sigma Eta Epsilon chapter.
He was a licensed embalmer in Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma, and had been employed in the three states.
He married Wanda Field on May 24, 1990, in Eureka Springs, Ark. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Joseph Cahill, Crane; two stepsons, Michael Field and Joey Field, both of Guthrie; three daughters, Angela Chapman, Verona, Mo., Jennifer Tummons, Baxter Springs, Kan., and Heather Cahill, Crane, Mo.; two sisters, Sue Northup, Springdale, Ark., and Bennie Coley, Shawnee; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
The Rev. Robert Warren will officiate.
Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin.
The family will receive friends from noon today until service time.
Pallbearers will be Randy Backstrom, Harold Douglas, Darrell Stevens, Brian Chapman, Joe Field and Karl Kinney.
Funeral directors of the area will be seated as a group.
Eunice House
GROVE, Okla. - Eunice L. House, 90, Grove, died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, at a Joplin nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. House was born Feb. 19, 1906, in Virginia City, Neb.
She was a four-year resident of Grove.
She retired in 1973 after 25 years as an electrical technician at the McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Plant in Long Beach, Calif.
Her husband, Dwight House, died in October 1965.
Survivors include a son, Joseph E. Becker, Silver City, N.M.; a daughter, Eunice Nichols, Liberal, Mo.; two brothers, Elmer Dobbs, McAllen, Texas, and Wison Dobbs, Mission, Texas; a sister, Mildred Ehart, Springdale, Kan.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandsons.
The body has been sent for cremation.
No services are planned.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
Edna Grimes
MIAMI, Okla. - Edna Grimes, 81, 2040 A St. N.E., died at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at the home of a daughter in rural Columbus, Kan., after an illness.
Mrs. Grimes was born Nov. 13, 1915, in Pulaski County, Ky.
She moved to Miami in 1976 from rural Columbus.
She was a homemaker and a member of Northeast Baptist Church, Miami.
She married the Rev. Alfred Lee Grimes on Nov. 26, 1933, at Afton.
He died Feb. 24, 1993.
Survivors include a son, Wayne "Burly" Grimes, Picher; a daughter, Marcia Vanatta, rural Columbus; a sister, Ina Bell, Vinita; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
The Rev. Ed McFall will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Afton.
Pallbearers will be Brent Sills, Max Mantle, Jack Pace, Scot Shafer, Marvin Miers and John McCracken.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
