Mr. Kernel died June 2, 2005, at a local hospital. He was born July 30, 1930, at Sasakwa, to Eugene and Susie Mae Factor Kernel. He served in the U.S. Army, was in Europe for three years and was discharged Oct. 3, 1950. He moved to this area in 1998 from Sasakwa. He worked as a concrete worker and laborer, a farmer and a punch press operator. He was a member of Seminole Baptist Church.
He married Jackie Ann Harjo Nov. 16, 1996, at Birdcreek Baptist Church, Sasakwa.
Survivors include his wife; one sister, Johnnie Mae West, Wewoka; three stepchildren, Rhonda Narcomey, Konawa, Charlie J. Harjo, Oklahoma City, and Rhoda Camp, Konawa; 10 stepgrandchildren; one brother-in-law, Jimmy Carpticher, Sasakwa; two sisters-in-law, Julia Isaac Scott, Madill, and JoAnna Walker, Ada; and many relatives and friends.
Bearers are Dennis Factor, Bunny Factor, Dexter Postoak, Jimmy Carpitcher, Travis Scott and Michael Walker.

She lived many years in Bellachy, Ireland and moved to the United States in 1948, settling in Okmulgee and Ada before moving to Oklahoma City in 1995. She was a member of Mustang
Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hollis; and four brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Roseleen Archer and husband Ronnie, Dale, and Betty Lemon and husband David, Springfield, Mo.; a son, Gerald Smith and wife Pat, Oklahoma City; three brothers, Bobby Fullerton, Joe Fullerton and

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. — Services for Rosalio “Charlie” Mendoza, 72, Coffeyville, are 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Chanute, Mike Maybrier officiating. Burial follows at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Air Force, Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.
He died May 30, 2005, at Coffeyville. He was born Sept. 4, 1932, at Chanute to Evarista Gutierrez and Bernie Mendoza. He was a 1951 graduate of Field Kindley Memorial High School, Coffeyville. He served the U.S. Army from 1951-54. He also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954, until his retirement in 1971. He retired with the rank of T Sgt. Mr. Mendoza served in Korea and Vietnam, as well.
Mr. Mendoza worked for the U.S. Postal Service at Phoenix, Ariz. for ten years. His family then moved back to Kansas and resided in the Humboldt community. He and his wife, Connie, moved to Coffeyville September of 2004. He was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, Coffeyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Angelina Bennett, Collinsville, Ill., Joni Mendoza, Phoenix, Ariz., Susan Baines, Juneau, Alaska, and Charlene Isit, Phoenix; three sisters, Corrine Perez, Chanute, Lydia Magruder, Las Cruces, N.M., and Cathy Lamb, Phoenix; six brothers, Jess Mendoza, Humboldt, Tony Mendoza, Tulsa, Okla., Joe Mendoza, El Paso, Texas, Richard Mendoza, Ada, Okla., Phillip Mendoza, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Fred Mendoza, Dallas, Texas; and ten grandchildren.

Mr. Shortes died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at the Norman Veterans Center. He was born June 6, 1919 at Duncan, Oklahoma to Walter A. and Edna S. Hardin Shortes. He attended school at Orange Prairie and graduated from Bray, Oklahoma. Mr. Shortes attended East Central University. He moved to this area in 1951 from Healdton, Oklahoma.
He married Alva A. Hunt on June 26, 1942 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Mr. Shortes served as a Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Army from July 6, 1942 to December 14, 1945. He served in the European Theatre of Operations assigned to Company B, 139th Airborne Engineers Battalion, 17th Division. He also served in the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe.
Mr. Shortes ran an Apco Service Station on North Broadway in Ada from 1957 until 1966. He retired from NL Treating Company in June, 1981. He was a member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion and he served for 20 years as a school board member at Latta High School.
Survivors include his wife, Alva Shortes, of the home; three daughters, Pat McBride, Ada, Rhonda Whisenant and husband Bruce, Ada, and Pam Clarke and husband Rocky, Washington, Oklahoma; one son, Terry Shortes and wife Debbie, Ada; ten grandchildren, Michael McBride, Kelly McBride, Lisa Laxton, Chris Whisenant, Tim Shortes, Philip Shortes, Shannon Smith, Lacee Andrews, Lindsey Myers and Case Clarke; fifteen great grandchildren, Morgan & Ryley McBride, Julie Sanchez-McBride, Chris, Josh, Cameron and Kylie Laxton, Cole, Cade and Joei Whisenant, Hagan and Gavin Smith, Nicholas and Cash Andrews and Madisson Myers; a niece, Carolyn Dolan, Connecticut; and nephew, Bill Malone, Ada.

Mrs. Estes died Monday, May 30, 2005, at The Colony, Texas. She was born Aug. 7, 1918, at Prim, Ark., to Charles Oliver and Ollie Mabel Collins Wortman. She attended school at Galey and Vanoss and graduated from Vanoss High School.
She married Sherman Estes on Oct. 8, 1938. He died March 3, 1995. Mrs. Estes moved to Texas in April, 2001 from Ada.
Survivors include a son, Donnie Estes, Arlington, Texas; a daughter, Dona Wall and her husband Glenn, The Colony, Texas; one brother, Charles Wortman, Ada; three sisters, Edith Cussins, Tucson, Arizona, Bonnie Shelton, Tuscon, Arizona, and Bertie Rose, Tucson, Arizona; 10 grandchildren, Vicky Mapp, Stephen, Marty, and Elizabeth Ann Estes, Christi Schultz, Stacy James, Terry and Matthew Wall, Darcy and Shelly Estes; and thirteen great grandchildren, Stephen Mapp, Sofia Estes, Sawyer, Liam and Isabella Schultz, Travis and Marly Leighton, Hannah and Nathan James, Avery, Brayden, Landan Wall, and Nicolas Estes.

Mrs. Stephens died Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at a local nursing home. She was born February 20, 1916 at Ada to John F. and Melissa A. Scifres Ryan. She attended school at Glenwood and Irving and graduated from Ada High School.
She married Lloyd W. Stephens on October 3, 1948. He died May 30, 1988 in Ada.
Mrs. Stephens was a beautician for 54 years, she also held state offices on the State Board of Cosmetology. Mrs. Stephens was a longtime member of Oak Avenue Baptist Church for 75 years.
Survivors include three nephews, John Ryan and wife Ann, Ada, Jack Ryan and wife Kathy, Renton, Washington, and Steve White and wife Lou Ann, Moore; four nieces, Kay Griffith and husband Sam, Oak Harbor, Washington, Donna Williams and husband Rocky, Ft. Worth, Texas, Debbie Elliott, Cleburne, Texas, and Teresa Ryan, Midwest City; and a sister-in-law, Syble Creech, Cleburne, Texas.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul Ryan, Jack Ryan, Jimmy Ryan and Carlos “Pinky” Ryan, and one sister, Pauline Davis.
