OPAL PLATT

ADA — Services for Opal Lavern Platt, 81, Ada, are 2 p.m. today at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home. Burial follows at Memorial Park Cemetery. She died Oct. 8, 2005, at an Ada nursing facility.

Mrs. Platt was born Dec. 30, 1923, at Damon, Okla., to Woodson and Jessie Houston Cathey. She married Carl James Platt June 4, 1941, at Wilburton. He died Oct. 16, 1996.

Mrs. Platt graduated from Wilburton High School in 1941. She moved to Ada in 1946, where she became a longtime resident of the city and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a licensed practical nurse. for 24 years at the McBride Clinic. She also worked as a Rosie the Riveter at San Diego, Calif., building B-29 Bombers during World War II.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Gladys Almon.

Survivors include one son, Jim Platt and wife Vickie, Ada.

Bearers are Art Platt, Leonard Luton, Bob Hester, Dale Hester, Phil Lawrence, and Mack Smith.

ADA — Services for Sandra Jo Nipps Anglin, 50, Ada, are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Criswell Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Frank Trent officiating. Burial follows at New Bethel Cemetery.

Mrs. Anglin died Oct. 7, 2005, at a Norman hospital. She was born Jan. 17, 1955, at Ada, to W. L. “Toots” and Edna Eberle Nipps. She attended school at Byng and graduated from Byng High School. She graduated from East Central University with a bachelor degree as a registered nurse. She was a psychiatric nurse and worked at Rolling Hills Hospital.

Survivors include two sons, Justin Anglin, Ada, and B. J. Anglin, Oklahoma City; her mother, Mrs. Edna Nipps, Byng; two brothers, Mike Nipps and wife Joyce, McAlester, and Benny Nipps and wife Cathy, Francis; and special friend, Randy Dearing.

Bearers are David Cross, John Sweatt, Omega Holman, José Ramirez, Stephanie Terry and Andy Anderson.

Honorary bearers are Dr. Robert Morton, Dr. Everett Bayne, Bill Smith, Scooter Throne, Luther Brown and Johnny Boyles.

ADA — Services for Joe Lane Gifford Jr., 50, Ada, are 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, the Rev. Barry Worcester officiating. Burial follows at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mr. Gifford died Oct. 7, 2005, at a Ft. Smith, Ark. hospital. He was born April 15, 1955, at Ada, to Joe Lane and Anna Lee Roberts Gifford Sr. He lived at Ada all his life, attended Willard Grade School and graduated from Ada High School in 1973. He attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated from East Central University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was president of Gifford Monument, Ada. Mr. Gifford was a certified memorialist, a member of the Monument Builders of North America, past president of Monument Builders Mid-America, a member of American Institute of Commemorative Art, a past member of the Ada Chamber Board, and a member of the Ada Lions Club. He was also a member of First Christian Church, Ada.

He married Debi McGalliard June 11, 1976, at Ada.

Survivors include his wife, Debi Gifford, of the home; two daughters, Brittany Beth Gifford, Plano, Texas, and Amy Elane Gifford, Norman; his parents, Joe Lane and Anna Lee Gifford, Ada; and numerous friends and family.

Bearers are Jack Lambert, John Durrett, Cliff Randall, Lynn Perry, Harry Smith and Perry Giles.

Honorary bearers are Joe Presley, Ken Maxwell, Bill Thompson, Tom Runnells, Mark Landrith, Tommy Mayhue, Mike Duncan, Lyndon Sutton, David Ellis, Jim Sanders, Randy Harp, Don Carpenter, Harry Turner and Phil Akin.

Mrs. Hubbard died Oct. 6, 2005, at a local nursing home. She was born Sept. 25, 1926, at Kingston, Ark., to Ethalbert Dean an Cora Belle Shaver Coats. She lived in the Ada area most of her life, attended Glenwood School and Stonewall Schools.

She married Jack H. Hubbard Nov. 7, 1947, at Ada. He died Jan. 22, 1981, at Ada. Mrs. Hubbard was a cook at North Classen High School, Oklahoma City, and a cook for Underwood’s Bar-B-Que, Oklahoma City. She attended Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Jimmy Hubbard in 1986, Clyde Dale Hubbard, and Loyd Ray Hubbard; a daughter, Ellen; a great-grandchild, Joshua Caleb McDow in 1996; and a twin brother, Clyde Coats.

Survivors include a son, Jackie Hubbard and wife Pat, Ada; five daughters, Esther Elliott, Sherry Hubbard, LaQuetta Matthews and husband Steve, all of Ada, Lillie Terry and husband Ronald, Moulton, Ala., and Jerry Owens and husband Mark, Pink; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Bearers are Jackie Hubbard Jr., Jason Hubbard, Lil Ronald Terry, Jimmy Cooper, Lil Steven Capps, and Lil Jimmy Hubbard II.

Honorary Bearers are Daniel Wright and Mark Owens.

ADA — Graveside services for Cora Thompson Bryan, 87, Ada are 1 p.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Dr. Roberto Escamilla officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 5-7 at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Bryan died Oct. 6, 2005, at a local hospital. She was born March 1, 1918, at Jesse, to George Bethel and Sarah Alice Moran Thompson. She attended school at Jesse, Stonewall and Ada, and graduated from Ada High School. She graduated from East Central University with a music degree. She was a longtime active member of First United Methodist Church, sang in the choir for many years, and was a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School class for many years. She was also a member of Oak Hill Women’s Golf Association, Wednesday Morning Music Club and Full Moon Dinner Club.

She married Joe R. Bryan Nov. 24, 1939. He preceded her in death July 15, 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Thompson Bryan, LaMarque, Texas, and James A. “Jim” Bryan, Jackson, Miss.; a daughter, Beverly Jordan, Shawnee; a sister, Vivian E. Cronin, Edmond; six grandchildren, Joseph Bryan Jordan, William Daniel Jordan, Leslie Adkins, Jill Barter, Christ Bryan and J. Kyle Bryan; and nine great-grandchildren.

Bearers are Lee Daggs; her grandsons; and grandsons-in-law.

Honorary bearers are Ted Savage, Dr. Don Williams, Hicks Smith, Frank Dicus, Dr. Stanley Wagner, Marcus Griffin and Lee Ross.

ELLA HISAW
ADA — Graveside services for Ella “Dink” Hisaw, 95, Ada, are 2 p.m. Monday at Rosedale Cemetery, the Rev. Joe Dixon officiating.

Mrs. Hisaw died Oct. 6, 2005, at a local hospital. She was born July 18, 1910, at Franks, to John and Bina Underwood Owens.

She married Benjamin Franklin Hisaw Oct. 24, 1934, at Stonewall. He died Oct. 26, 1985, at Ada. Mrs. Hisaw was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three grandchildren; three brothers; one sister; and one great-grandchild.

Survivors include three sons, Bill Underwood, Lewisville, Texas, Delbert Hisaw, Ada, and Joe Hisaw, Konawa; four daughters, Betty Phillips, Konawa, Faye Miller, Ina Grant and Judy Hisaw, all of Ada; three brothers, Johnny Buck Owens, Frank Owens, both of Ada, and Benny Owens, Tupelo; 24 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.
