Funeral services for Hiroko Shimoyama “Chris” Beil, 73, of Owasso were Dec. 1, 2004 at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso. Rev. Dennis Meador officiated.
Committal services and interment followed at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso.
Beil was born April 18, 1931 at Kyushu Island, Japan, to Shinichi and Umeno Shimoyama. She died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004 in Tulsa.
She married Donald R. Beil on Nov. 6, 1957 at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. She then came with Don to the United States in 1958, where they made their home in Owasso since 1968.
Beil spent most her working life as a beautician and a mother. She was a member of Anchor Baptist Church in Turley. She enjoyed a variety of pastimes, including painting, sewing, knitting, quilting and flower gardening.
Survivors include her husband of over 47 years, Don, of the home; two daughters, Michiyo Couch and husband, Phillip, of Arlington, Texas, Diana Kelly and husband, Darrell, of Owasso; two sons, Donny Beil of Claremore, and Frank Takeo Beil and wife, Cherie, of Bennett, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Casket bearers were Dayton Beil, Timothy Beil, Joshua Perkins, Sean Couch, Bill Beaty and Mike Beaty.
Phillip Gene Johnson
Funeral services for Phillip Gene Johnson, 76, of Sperry were Friday, Nov. 26, 2004 in the First Baptist Church in Sperry. Rev. Don Queen officiated, along with elder Jack Basse.
Funeral music was provided by vocalist Bill Westmoland, organist Shirley Williamson and pianist Martha Hughes.
Interment followed in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
Johnson, known as Gene to his many friends, was born May 16, 1928 to Tom and Maude Johnson. He passed away Nov. 22, 2004.
He received his diploma from Owasso High School while he was serving in the Second Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II, which he joined when he was a senior.
He worked for Dixon-Goodman Lumber Co. and C.R. Anthonys in Tulsa, and began his career in funeral service working nights driving ambulances for area funeral homes.
He was a licensed funeral director for over 40 years. He worked at Fitzgerald’s and Moore Funeral Home. He owned Mannford Funeral Home in the late 1950s. He worked for Hart Funeral Home in Tahlequah and was a casket representative for Baxter Casket Co.
He returned to Collinsville and opened Oklahoma Monument Co. in 1980 and moved to Sperry in 1990, opening Johnson Funeral Home with his son, Phillip Jr.
His personal and business philosophy was to give the best service to everyone. He was known as a humorist and for his quick wit. He was truly a man who never met a stranger. Everyone who knew him has a “Gene Johnson story.”
He was proud of his Cherokee heritage, and was selected to provide markers for the National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. for the Cherokee treaty signers.
He was active in many organizations over the years, including Jaycees, Lions Club, Kiwanis, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sperry Merchants Association, Skiatook Lake Association and Owasso Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Johnson, of the home; sons, Phillip Gene Johnson Jr. and wife, Pam, Tom F. Johnson and wife, Cheryl, and Jim W. Johnson; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; special “sister” Roberta Aery; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers were friends of Johnson.
Norma Nelson
Services for Norma Nelson were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hayhurst Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow.
The Rev. Jerry Zirkle officiated, assisted by Jason Lee.
Interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bixby Cemetery under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nelson, 71, of Tulsa, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004.
She was born June 5, 1933, at Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Cecil and Ethel (Rowan) Zirkle. They, and brothers Bob, Jim, Richard and Donald, preceded her in death.
She moved to Tulsa in 1984 from Arkansas. Mrs. Nelson was a licensed practical nurse, and enjoyed sewing and music.
She is survived by daughters Renita Lee of Bixby and Rosmarie Armer of El Dorado, Ark.; two sisters, Thelma Caslow of Michigan and Cecil Pelt of Broken Arrow; a brother, Jerry Zirkle of Broken Arrow; and three grandsons.

Maximo Valdez Molina
Services for Maximo Valdez Molina, 86, of Broken Arrow, are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Northside Christian Church in Broken Arrow. The Rev. Rob Burst will officiate and burial will be at Floral Haven under the direction of Christian-Gavlik Funeral Home.
Mr. Molina died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Broken Arrow.
He was born Nov. 11, 1917, at Tampa, Fla., to Emilo Molina and Josephina (Valdez) Molina, and attended schools in Tampa.
He served in the U.S. Army for four years and was a retired armored car driver with Loomis-Fargo.
He married Lona May (Anderson) Molina at Santa Barbara, Calif., June 19, 1942.
Mr. Molina was a member of Northside Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lona Mae; a sister, Celia Hernandez; and brothers, William Molina, Roy Molina and Tony Molina.
He is survived by a daughter, Maxine LeMaster of Broken Arrow; a son, Christopher Molina of Tulsa; a brother, George Molina of Springhill, La.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Howard Patterson
Services for Howard Patterson, 73, of Broken Arrow, are set for 10 a.m. Monday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Broken Arrow.
Patrick Quinn will officiate and burial will be at Cox Cemetery in Lincoln, Ark., under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home.
Mr. Patterson died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004.
He was born Aug. 19, 1931, at Westville, the son of Clyde Brown and Mary Ella (Simpson) Patterson.
He graduated from Northeastern University as a science major in chemistry. He was a regulatory coordinator for Mid-America Pipeline, and a member of the Tulsa Paradivers. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witness.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.
he married Ila Gay Braly on Sept. 9, 1953, at Fayetteville, Ark. The couple moved to Broken Arrow 27 years ago.
Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by brothers Preston, Oscar, and Cecil; and a sister, Erma.
He is survived by his wife, Ila Gay Patterson of Broken Arrow; a son, Reginald Patterson of Vinita; four grandchildren: and one great-grandchild.
Donald Keith Summers
Services for Donald Keith Summers, 76, were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Clearview Baptist Church. The Rev. Kent Shirley served as officiating minister. Mr. Summers was buried at Bernie, Mo., under the direction of Amis-Kennard Funeral Services.
Mr. Summers died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004.
He was born June 3, 1928, at Liberty, Mo., to the late David B. Summers and Lottie (Machen) Summers.
He served in the U.S. Navy and Air Force and worked as a driver for National Van Lines for more than 40 years.
He married Betty Jean (Venable) Summers. She preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 1999.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Stacey Jean; three brothers; and three sisters.
He is survived by children Keith Summers of Jonesboro, Ark., Verna Sue Summers of Jonesboro, Sarah Ann Parker of Houston, Texas; Butch Summers of Jonesboro, Pam Mauldin of Broken Arrow, Candace Vowels of Claremore and Cindy Cure of Canyon, Texas; 11 grandcihldren; a brother, Jerry Summers of Enid; and a sister, Dorothy Swafford of Bernie.
