Cordelia Harris

Funeral services for longtime Earlsboro resident Cordelia Harris are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ware Chapel CME Church in Earlsboro. Rev. Rabon Turner is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Earlsboro Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Harris died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 91. She was born June 6, 1905 in Memphis, Tenn. She married Edward Renzo Harris in 1966 in Seminole. He preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 2002. Harris attended Ware Chapel CME Church in Earlsboro. She is survived by one son, Lonnie Jett of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, James Arthur Harris of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Lucille Anderson, Ida Holloway, and Emma of Memphis, Tenn.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lenora (Lawrence) Brewer

Graveside funeral services Lenora Emma (Lawrence) Brewer are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Cummings Cemetery in Maud. Aaron Lawrence is set to officiate. Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Brewer died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002 at the age of 78. She was born on Sept. 24, 1924 in Depew to Charlie and Laura (Holcomb) Lawrence. She graduated from Bowlegs High School and lived in this area all of her life. Brewer was married to Chester Morris Ryan for many years. He preceded her in death in 1971. She married Elmer Brewer in 1974 and her preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Cub Lawrence and Jay Lawrence. Brewer is survived by one brother, Buck Lawrence of Wewoka and two sisters, JoAnn Walkup of Sapulpa and Evelyn McGhee of Haven, Kan.

Edward Taylor

Graveside services for Seminole resident Edward Elwood Taylor are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Little Cemetery. Services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Taylor died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002 at Mercy Health Center at the age of 57. He was born to Willy Taylor and Suzie (McCormick) Taylor on March 14, 1945 in Lansing N.C. Taylor moved to Seminole 15 years ago from Ada, and was a retired employee of Trader Mills. He was preceded in death by his parents. Taylor is survived by one son, Danny Taylor, Chicago, Ill.; one step-son, Tony Vasquez, Ada; two daughters, Diana Taylor and Ashley Taylor, both of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Herman Taylor, Highpoint, N.C. and Harley Taylor, Lansing, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Ann Baldwin, Wost Jefferson, N.C. and Wilma Loe Cowan, Cumpler, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

Beryl Werrell

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Beryl (Simpson) Werrell are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, Shawnee. Dr. Paul Calmes is set to officiate, and interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, Shawnee. Werrell died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at a local hospital, at the age of 94. She was born Dec. 12, 1907, in Fitzhugh, to Charles Napoleon and Margaret Lee (Crawford) Simpson. Werrell graduated from Fitzhugh High School in 1923, then majored in business education and graduated from East Central State College in Ada. She taught typing and shorthand in Bowlegs, and taught on an Indian reservation in Arizona during the 1930s. Werrell also worked for the Seminole County Treasurer’s Office in Wewoka. She married William Matthew “Bill” Werrell on Aug. 14, 1939. Werrell was a member of First Baptist Church, and a former member of the Rose Unit of the Shawnee Garden Club and a Garden Club council member. She lived in Seminole from 1939 to 1951. Werrell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Betty Oliver; two brothers, Leon Ivor Simpson and C.S. Simpson; and two grandsons. She is survived by her daughter Nova Jean Lowe, Shawnee; three granddaughters and their husbands; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, one nephew and two nieces. The casket will remain open until service time and will not be opened after the service.

Robert Johnson

Funeral services for Robert Harold Johnson, brother of Wewoka resident Gurdon Johnson, were scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 29. The services were held at Abundant Life United Pentecostal Church in Moore, with interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Wewoka, under the direction of John Ireland Funeral Home, Moore. Johnson died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, in his home, at the age of 80. He was born on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, 1922, in Adona, Ark., the sixth of nine children of Robert E. and Arlene Johnson. He enlisted in the Army and served for 20 years, receiving many commendations, and was decorated for injuries sustained during the Battle of the Bulge. Johnson worked in civil service for 13 years before retiring in 1974. He married Norareen Mitchell on March 9, 1946 and was married for 56 years. Johnson was a member of Abundant Life United Pentecostal Church for several years prior to his death. He is survived by his wife Norareen, of the home; two sisters, Lee Ella Hisaw, Midwest City, and Betty Sanders, Del City; one brother, Gurdon Johnson, Wewoka; two daughters, Patricia Lynn Turner, Jenks, and Shelly Stringfellow, Moore; and two sons, Danny Johnson, Newalla and Terry Johnson, Oklahoma City. Johnson is also survived by 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Terry Marshall

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Terry Michael Marshall are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Seminole. Rev. Allen Wood will officiate. Burial is set to follow at Little Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Marshall died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Mercy Health Center, Oklahoma City, at the age of 44. He was born Feb. 28, 1958 in Seminole, to James H. Marshall and Patsy Ruth (Collins) Moreland. Marshall was a licensed land surveyor and a partner in Marshall Surveying. He belonged to the Oklahoma Society of Land Surveyors. Marshall loved race cars, bowling and sports in general, and was an Atlanta Braves fan. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and his brother Jerry Marshall. Marshall is survived by his parents, James and Bettie Marshall, and Patsy and Jackie “Porky” Moreland, all of Seminole; two sons, Casey Joe Wildcat and James Bradley Marshall of Seminole; and two daughters, Terri Michelle Marshall, Holdenville, and Sara Christine Marshall of the home. He is also survived by his former spouse Mabaline Wildcat, Seminole and special friend Valerie Allen of the home; two brothers, Curtis Meyers, Atlanta, Ga., and Jimmy Moreland; three sisters, Nanetta Brown, Tucson, Ariz., Sherry Wade, and Debra Delong, both of Detroit, Mich.; and four grandchildren. Casket bearers include Fred Fredrickson, Jim Fox, Jerry Atkinson, Casey Wildcat and James Bradley Marshall, and honorary bearers Curtis Meyers, Ponch, Jerry Haws and Jared Marshall.

Ceolous Johnson Sr.

Memorial services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday for longtime Seminole resident Ceolous T. Johnson, Sr. at the Historic Strothers Chapel in Seminole. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Johnson died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002 at Unity Health Center North in Shawnee at the age of 87. He was born to Jordan Johnson and Mary Oteria (Ryan) Johnson on Sept. 4, 1915 in Magnolia, Ark. Johnson moved to Seminole from Arkansas in 1936, and attended Booker T. Washington School. He then met and married Corine Johnson and the couple were together for 47 years. Johnson served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a truck driver for 27 years for Midwest Pipe and Supply, and was of Holiness faith. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Corine, of the home; three sons, Ceolous Johnson, Jr., Shawnee, Grover Johnson, Shawnee, and David Johnson, Seminole; four daughters, Joyce Johnson, Oklahoma City, Cassandra K. McNeely, Midwest City, Yolanda Simon, Shawnee, and Tijuana Johnson, Seminole; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Billy Cannon

Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident Billy G. “Bud” Cannon are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Revs. Don Ramsey, Gary Pollard, Floyd Tate, and Dr. Jack Medlock will officiate. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. There will be no committal service at graveside. Services will conclude at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Cannon died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2002 in Oklahoma City at the age of 76. He was born to Lester “Boss” Cannon and Lois (Aylor) Cannon on Sept. 8, 1926 in the Little Community. Cannon lived in Seminole and Little most of his life, and lived in Oklahoma City from 1953-1983. He was a graduate of Strother High School and Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater where he earned his degree in Agriculture. Cannon served in World War II and Korea as a Seaman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy. He married Dorothy Jean (Morehead) Cannon on June 7, 1962 in Seminole. Cannon was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service with over 29 years of service. He converted to Christ as a teenager attending the Highway Baptist Church, and was later affiliated with the Tri-City Christian Center and Glad Tidings Assembly of God. Cannon was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Lester Cannon. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home; two sons, Kenneth Snell, Auburn, Wash. and William Snell, Midwest City; two daughters, Patricia McNatt, Allen, Texas and Diana Snell, Greenwood, Ark.; one brother, Jimmy Cannon, Seminole; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Lucindy Porter

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Lucindy Street Porter are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday in Oklahoma City at Redeemed Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. L.R. Drinkwater is set to officiate. Services are under the direction of Myers Mortuary. Porter died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002 at Integris Baptist Medical Center at the age of 51. She was born Dec. 26, 1950 in Wewoka. She joined church at St. Joseph Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Rev. A. A. Jackson, who also baptized her. Porter later joined Redeemed Missionary Baptist Church of Oklahoma City where her pastor was Rev. L. R. Drinkwater. She remained a member there until her death. She attended schools in Wewoka where she graduated in 1968. Porter worked for the Mariott Corporation in Oklahoma City as a chef for six years. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Johnny Porter of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Christian Ann Street of Oklahoma City; two sons, Bryant Bedford of Las Vegas, Nev. and Johnny Porter Jr. of Oklahoma City; one brother, Joseph Leon Thompson of California; six sisters, Joyce Street Williams, Mary Miles, and Geraldine Levier, all of Wewoka, Mildred Street Hill of Phoenix, Ariz., and Sandra Street and Mary Brown, both of Oklahoma City; and three grandchildren.

Sadie Schauer

BETHANY – Funeral services for Sadie May Lamkin Schauer, the mother of a Bowlegs resident, were held Saturday at the Bill Merritt Memorial Chapel. Interment followed in Bethany Cemetery under the direction of Bill Merritt Funeral Service. Lamkin died Wednesday evening, Nov. 20, 2002 at the age of 94. She was born to Joseph and Pearl Lamkin on Oct. 19, 1908 near Hardesty, in an area known as No Man’s Land. She married Ed Schauer on May 24, 1927. They had been married almost when he preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1997. Schauer helped her husband build and remodel churches for the Church of the Nazarene. They worked in approximately 20 communities in northwest Oklahoma and southern Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter; her parents; four brothers; and two sisters. Schauer is survived by her son, Melvin Schauer of Bowlegs; two daughters, Leola McKay of Channing, Texas and Dorothy Bishop of Dalhart, Texas; two sisters, Bessie Vincent of Dalhart, Texas and Ruth Forehand of Meeker; seven grandchildren; 20 grat-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Leon Bruner Sr.

A prayer service for Leon Bruner Sr. was held last night at Hudson-Phillips Chapel in Holdenville. A procession to Many Springs Baptist Church will begin at 4 p.m. today for wake services tonight. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Many Springs Baptist Church in Holdenville with Rev. Jimmy Anderson officiating. The Chickasaw Nation Honor Guard will perform military honors. Interment is to follow at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Bruner died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002 in Ardmore at the age of 61. He was born Sept. 26, 1941 in Holdenville to Arthur Sr. and Izora (Walker) Bruner. He attended school in Holdenville and graduated there. Bruner was drafted into the Vietnam War and served for two years. He married Dianna Jane Orphan on Sept. 12, 1969 in Durant. He was a member of Many Springs Baptist Church and was baptized on June 22, 1950 by Edward Leader. Bruner was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Lee Bruner and Tom “Tippy” Bruner; and one infant sister. He is survived by his wife, Dianna J. Bruner of the home; five children, Laura Jean Bruner, Leon Alex Bruner Jr., Michelle Lou Dennis, Michael James Bruner, all of Ardmore, and Johnny Lee Bruner of Owasso; seven brothers and sisters, James Bruner of Antlers, Arthur Bruner Jr. of Tulsa, Cowena Anderson and Minnie Ruth Faxon, both of Shawnee, Doreen Buck of Holdenville, Johnnie Mae Kalinich of Holdenville, and Harry Bruner of Dallas, Texas; and 11 grandchildren. Bruner’s nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary bearers are Jim Chu- culte, Frank Harris, Larry Scrog- gins, Eddie Bailey, and employ- ees of the Wewoka Indian Health Service.

Bessie Smith

OKLAHOMA CITY – Funeral services for Wewoka native Bessie Smith are scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Guardian West Chapel. Interment is to follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Guardian West. Smith died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002 at Heritage Nursing Home in Holdenville att he age of 91. She was born Dec. 25, 1920 to Charles and Flora McFarland in Wewoka. She married Roy Smith in Wewoka. They later moved to Oklahoma City where they lived for 45 years. Smith worked for Pratt’s Grocery as a checking clerk. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and four brothers, Ivan, John, Jim, and Ralph. She is survived by her sister, Anne Barbre of Holdenville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Coy Bell

Graveside funeral services for Wewoka native Coy Gene Bell are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Van Newton is set to officiate. Services are under the direction of Watts Funeral Home of Madill. Bell died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002 at his home in Kingston at the age of 70. He was born Jan. 6, 1932 in Wewoka to Fairy E. and Medreath Bell. He was raised in Wewoka and lived there for several years. After graduating from high school, Bell became involved in the oil industry. On Feb. 23, 1962, he became employed with Union Oil of California. He worked there for 18 ½ years as a drilling superintendent and retired from the company in 1980. After retirement, Bell and his wife, Beverly, who he married on July 21, 1979 in Oklahoma City, moved to Lake Texoma. He is survived by his wife of Kingston; his mother of Seminole; two sons, Dickie Bell of Plano, Texas and Roger Bell of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Terrye Meyer of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Cecil Bell of Farmington, N.M., and Donnie Bell of Fort Stockton, Texas; three sisters, Mary Tolson of Seminole, Doris Baker of Waurika, and Linda Cook of Sacramento, Calif.; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.

Wilma Brackin

Funeral services for Maud resident Wilma Lena Hill Brackin are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Rev. Gene Teel is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Cummings Cemetery under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home. Brackin died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002 at Maud at the age of 95. She moved to Maud in 1928 from Haworth. She was born Oct. 9, 1907 in Dalby Springs, Texas to William L. and Florence (Sadler) Hill. Brackin married Hice W. Hill on Sept. 28, 1924 in Haworth. He preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1965. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Maud. She was also a member of Eastern Star Lodge #57. Brackin was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one son, Hice Lewis “Buzz” Hill on Feb. 19, 1982. She is survived by her daughters, Ann Arnold, Wilda Garner, and Joy Waltman, all of Maud, and Robbie Jenkins of Norman; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Britt Waltman, Bryan Jenkins, and Earl Jenkins, and her great-grandsons, Bryon Waltman, Jan Northcott, and Stan Gregory.
