Nettie M. Furgerson

Funeral services for Nettie M. Furgerson will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Assembly of God Church in Asher. Rev. Donna Morton is set to officiate. Interment will follow at the Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Furgerson died Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Unity North Health Center in Shawnee. She was born Sept. 21, 1918 in Fort Cobb to James Lee Mat- thews and Louella (Landers) Matthews. She married Cassie Hays Furgerson on Oct. 1, 1932 in Seminole. He preceded her in death Feb. 15, 1988. Furgerson was a homemaker and an in-home provider for the elderly and a member of the Assembly of God Faith church. She is survived by one son, Hays Eugene Furgerson of Chandler; two daughters, Francis Beggs of Commanche, Tx. And Wanda Faught of Stockton, Ca; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, J.C. Matthews of Lake Elisnore, Ca. and Elmer Matthews of Modesto, Ca. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Fred Harjo

Funeral services for Sasakwa resident Fred Sonny Harjo were held at 2 p.m. today at the Spring Baptist Church in Sasakwa. Revs. Fred Moppin and Eugene Harjo officiated the services. Interment followed at the Harjo Family Cemetery in Sasakwa, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka. Harjo died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 at the age of 79. He was born to Fouscharjoe and Mandy (Fixico) Harjo on March 15, 1923 in Sasakwa. Harjo’s lost his parents at an early age, and he was raised by his foster parents, Willie and Amey Palmer. He was a lifelong resident of Seminole County, and attended school at Sasakwa. Harjo was a member of the Spring Baptist Church in Sasakwa. He married Ida Harjo on May 17, 1945, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 1989. Harjo was a veteran of World War II, and worked in housekeeping at Valley View Hospital in Ada for 26 years prior to his retirement in 1993. Harjo is preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his foster parents; one daughter, Mandy Harjo; one brother, Homer Lee Harjo; and one sister, Sylba Walker. He is survived by his daughters, Martha Jane Harjo, Sasakwa, Frankie Coley and Shawna Groves, both of Wewoka, and Laurie Owl, Seminole; his brothers, Rev. Eugene Harjo and John Robert Harjo; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Tommy Cunningham, Colton Coley, Micah Tarkington, Don Branscum, Steve Dail, and Cecil Moon.

Mary Ehrlich

Funeral services for Wewoka native Mary Ehrlich were scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday athe Okeene Seventh Day Adventist Church. Rev. Larry Schneider was to officiate. Burial was to follow in the East Cooper Cemetery in Loyal under the direction of Wilkinson Mortuary of Okeene . Ehrlich died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003 at the age of 81. She was born Jan. 20, 1922 in Wewoka to Albert and Kate Danielson. She was a resident of the Okeene community for over 50 years until moving to the Seminole area 20 years ago. Ehrlich attended Butner Schools and was a member of the Okeene seventh Day Adventist Church and the Seminole Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was an artist. She married Melvin Ehrlich in Geary on Aril 14, 1938. He survives her of the home. Ehrlich was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, David Eaton; three sisters; and two brothers. She is also survived by one daughter, Melvina Lou Thomas of Monte Vista, Colo.; two sisters, Dean Freeman of Midwest City and Betty Freeman of Shawnee; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the S.D.A. Church of Shawnee.

Ethan Crawford

Graveside services for Ethan Dakota Crawford, infant son of Royal (Crawford) Nunnelly, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Little Cemetery. Services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Rev. Fred Morrison will officiate the services. Crawford died Sunday Jan. 26, 2003 at Seminole Medical Center. He was born to Royal (Crawford) Nunnelly on Sunday Jan. 26, 2003 at Seminole Medical Center. Crawford is survived by his mother, Royal, of the home; two sisters, Roxanne Nunnelly and Helena Nunnelly, both of the home; his maternal grandparents, Roy and Cathy Crawford; and his grandmother, Viola Smith.

Loraine Jones

Funeral services for former Konawa resident Loraine Elva (Rhinehart) Jones are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Konawa. Rev. Pam Shirk will officiate the services. Burial will follow at the Konawa City Cemetery, under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home. Jones died Sunday Jan. 26, 2003 in Topeka, Kan., at the age of 100. She was born in Greenville, Texas on April 1, 1902. Jones lived in Konawa most of her life, and married Owen B. Jones in 1918 in Konawa. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Konawa. Jones was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Owen Jones; one brother, Fred Rhinehart; and a half-brother, Johnny Johnson. She is survived by one son, Theron Jones, Tuttle; three daughters, Nadine Novick, Hot Springs, Ark., Maxine Thomas, Oklahoma City, and Betty Flake, Topeka, Kan.; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Ken Rhoads

Funeral Services for George Kenneth “Ken” Rhoads, brother of Wewoka resident Kathleen Filson, were held Saturday at the Oak Avenue Baptist Church in Ada. Revs. Joe Ligon and Randall Christy officiated the services. Interment followed at Swan Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home of Ada. Mr. Rhoads died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 at Norman Regional Hospital. He was born to A.H. “Ack” and Iva Rhoads on Dec. 16, 1922 in Dolberg. Shortly after, his family moved to Sasakwa were he attended Sasakwa and Wewoka schools. Ken was attending Murray State College when he met his wife of 60 years, Frances Virginia Turner. After returning to Oklahoma from World War II, Ken and Frances moved to Ada in 1946 where they made their home with their six sons. Ken worked in the construction industry for over 50 years. At the time of his death, Ken was co-owner of B&R Foundation Repair, an Ada-based company. Ken is survived by his wife, Frances, of the home, and six sons, George Kenneth “Kenny” and wife Sue, Darrell and wife Becky, Farrell and wife Deborah, Harroll and wife Susan, and Karroll Rhoades, all of Ada, and Kevin and his wife Carla of Purcell; two sisters, Kathleen Filson of Wewoka, and Jean Young of Earlsboro; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Ken was a loving and devoted husband, father, and “PaPa.” Ken was a friend to everyone he met and will be greatly missed. Pallbearers were Ken, Darrell, Farrell, Harroll, Karroll, and Kevin Rhoads. Honorary bearers were Bill Bolin, J.B. Bolin, Boyd Bolin, Rex Munday, Randall McCowen, Jim “Chico” Allenbaugh, Craig Whipple, and Rob Alvarado.

Mary Howard

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Mary Jane Howard are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Seminole. Rev. Basil Keenan, OSB, will officiate. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Fu neral Home of Wewoka. A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel. Mary passed away on Sat- urday, Feb. 8, 2003 at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 53. She was born in Falfurrias, Texas to Robert G. Howard and Margaret Pierce Howard on Dec. 13, 1949. Mary grew up in the Wewoka area and graduated in 1968 from Wewoka High School. She suffered a fall while still in high school, which left her disabled but did not daunt her will or spirit. Mary continued her education and received her Associate’s degree from St. Gregory’s in Shawnee, and her Associate’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Oklahoma. She dedicated her life to her family and friends, and especially her nieces and nephews, who were her greatest joy. Survivors include her brothers and sisters and their spouses, Robert and Pam Howard, Hobbs, N.M., John C. and Carolyn Howard, Oklahoma City, Margaret and Dave Snyder, Edmond, Barbara M. Griggs, Yukon, Pascal and Janet Howard, Morgan City, La., Joan and John Imes, Oklahoma City, James and Tracy Howard, Norman and Philip and Jane Howard, Wewoka; 28 nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Chad Willimon, Jon Derouen, John A. Howard, James E. Howard, Kyle Kiker, Jeremy Howard, Tim Howard, and Lance Snyder. Honorary bearers will be Robert Howard, John C. Howard, Lee P. Howard, Pascal Howard, James Howard, Philip Howard, and Robert Lee.

James Reid

Funeral services for We- woka resident James L. Reid are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel in Wewoka. Rev. Dan Anderson will officiate the services. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Fu neral Home. James passed away on Saturday Feb. 8, 2003 at Signature Point on the lake in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 84. He was born to Lewis I. Reid and Mabel E. (Black) Reid in Blair, on April 21, 1918. James lived the majority of his life in the Oklahoma City area, while working on the family farm during the depression and attending college in Altus. He worked in Texas for a time prior to volunteering during World War II for service to his country with the U.S. Air Force. Following his discharge he returned to Oklahoma City and was employed by the Department of Defense at Tinker Air Force Base for another 30 years of civil service prior to his retirement. A 32nd degree Mason, James held several offices with the fraternal organization, and was an active community and church member. Prior to retirement, he and his wife, Ruth, made their home in Wewoka, where he devoted the remainder of his life in community service, church fellowship, and playing golf with his many friends. James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, M. Ruth Reid, on July 3, 1995; and his sister, Helen Goins. He departed this life peacefully, having lived a full and active life, and leaves surviving him three daughters, Beverly Murphy, Dallas, Texas, and Janet pool and Terri Jolynn Reid, both of Nashville, Tenn.; one son, William Gregory Reid, Santa Clara, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Holmes, Greg Gilchrist, Ginger Ratcliff, Patty Murphy, Greg and Wade Hales, and Jay Burke; and eight great-grandchildren, Christain Smith, Whit Whitfield, Taylor, Seth, and Rudy Gilchrist, Hannah Ratcliff, and Wyatt and Gabrielle Hales. Pallbearers will be Martin Pool, Greg Gilchrist, Brian Ratcliff, Brent Pool, Terry Holmes, and Floyd Snider. Honorary bearers will be James Harrod, Warren Jones, Jake Cleaver, and the Masonic Lodge.
