Ruth Crotts

Graveside funeral services for Seminole resident Ruth L. Crotts are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park. Rev. Cecil Spoonmore is set to officiate. Services are under the direc tion of Resthaven Funeral Home. Crotts died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003 at her home at the age of 90. She was born March 9, 1912 in Marbel City to Denver Ray and Eva L. (Stewart) Sloan. She was a sales associate for J.C. Penney Co. She also had worked for 10 years at Stokes Grocery in Miami. For several years, Crotts was an owner and operator of a restaurant in both Miami and Shawnee. She was a member of Ideal Street Baptist Church and the Home Extension Club of Seminole. She had lived in the Seminole area for 21 years. Crotts was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Al Crotts, in 1980; two brothers and one sister. She is survived by one daughter, Patti Weems of Seminole; two grandsons and five great- grandchildren.

Christopher Harjo

Funeral services for Seminole resident Christopher Michael Harjo were scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday for an all night wake service at the Edgar Ellis home in Prague. Traditional burial services were to begin Monday morning at the Sac & Fox Cemetery in Stroud. Services were under the direc tion of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Harjo died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003 in Seminole County after an auto accident. He was 34. He was born May 5, 1968 in Shawnee to Vincent Harjo and Joyce Ellis. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ada and attended auto mechanic school at Okmulgee Tech. Harjo married Patria Jackson on Feb. 14, 1994 in Ada. She survives him of Ada. He is also survived by his father, Vincent “Mike” and Opal Hajro and Anadarko; his mother, Joyce and Charles Burgess of Wolf; five children, Sonny Miguel Harjo, Christina Renee Harjo, Justin Ray Harjo, and LeeAnn Iley Harjo, all of Ada, and Andrew Keith Harjo of Shawnee; his paternal grandmother, Joshphine Harjo of Seminole; and brothers and sisters, Wilson C. Harjo of Prague, Jerri L. Abney Harjo of Stroud, Vincent M. Harjo II of Seminole, Virgil G. Harjo of Wewoka, Tenetke C. Hajro and Mikka F. Harjo, both of Anadarko. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and maternal grandparents.

Gladys Black

Funeral services for former longtime Seminole resident Gladys Black are were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church. Minister David Karges was set to officiate. He was to be assisted by Minister Bruce Lewis. Interment was to follow at Resthaven Memorial Garden under the direction of Calvary Funeral Home of Eunice, N.M. Black died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2003 in Hobbs, N.M. at the age of 99. She was born Dec. 12, 1903 in Cedar County, Mo. She married Rockford L. Black on Dec. 24, 1923 in Keystone. Black was a resident of Seminole for 69 years. She moved to Hobbs, N.M. in 2002. She was an active member of the Seminole First United Methodist Church since 1950. Black was an active member of the United Methodist Women’s Group and a charter member of the Wedding Ring Sunday School Class. She is survived by one son, Don Black of Weatherford; one daughter, Peggy Harris of Hobbs, N.M., one brother, John Strader of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and 13 great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

James Frances Cain

Funeral services for former longtime Seminole resident James Frances Cain are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Father Basil Keenan, O.S.B., is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direc tion of Swearingen Funeral Home. Cain died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 in Wichita Falls, Texas at the age of 64. He was born Aug. 12, 1938 in Oklahoma City to John H. and Alice (Lessing) Cain. He retired from the United States Navy in 1974 and from the reserves in 1985. Cain was Petty Officer First Class and served from 1955 to 1985. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jerome Paul and John Henry III. Cain is survived by his daughter, Holly Cain of Truckee, Calif.; and one sister, Joe Shore of Tulsa.

Margaret Jane Norman

Funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident Margaret Jane Norman are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Wewoka. Revs. Neil Thompson and Andy Edwards will officiate. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka. Mrs. Norman died at OU- Presbyterian Hospital on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 at the age of 86, following a brief illness. She was born on Aug. 14, 1916 in Mangum to Henry Hargus Edwards and Bertha Belle Burrow Edwards. She graduated from Wewoka High School in 1933 and attended Oklahoma College for Women, Oklahoma A&M College, and East Central State College. Mrs. Norman received her Backelor of Arts Degree from Oklahoma College for Women in 1937, with a double major in English and Journalism, and Art Education minor. She married Edgar Franklin Norman on Aug. 11, 1940 in Tulsa and they made their home in Wewoka. She taught elementary, junior, and senior high school throughout her teaching career. Mrs. Norman was a bookkeeper for Norman’s Men’s Wear from 1967 to 1987. During her life in Wewoka, she was an active member of the First Christian Church since 1928, where she was Chairman of the 75th Anniversary Celebration in 1985. Her other achievements and associations during her lifetime have included being President of the American Association of UniverstyWomen during the years 1941-1943 and 1969-1971. Mrs. Norman was a founding member of the Seminole Nation Museum and Historical Society in 1973 and held its presidency from 1974 to 1981. She had been curator of the museum since 1981. She belonged to the Hyacinth Unit of the Wewoka Garden Clubs; Oklahoma Heritage Association; Town Hall, Oklahoma City; Wewoka Arts and Crafts Club; P.E.O.; co-directed Wewoka’s First Easter Pageant in 1967; was awarded Wewoka Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year in 1974; Distinguished Service Award from the Oklahoma Heritage Association in 1975; Governor’s Arts Award for Community Service in 1985; Wewoka Camber of Commerce’s Civic Service Award in 1986; Wewoka High School’s Outstanding Alumna Award in 1988; wewoka Chamber of Commerce’s Golden Age Award in 1989 and she was a Parade Marshall for the Sorghum DayParade in 1999, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Seminole Nation Museum and Historical Society. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial be made to the Seminole Nation Museum and Historical Society, Wewoka. Mrs. Norman was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 58 years, Edgar Franklin Norman, Jr. She is survived by three children, Richard Norman Sr. and his wife, Nan, Rancho Mirage, Calif., John Randall Norman, Wewoka, and Nancy Jane Norman LeVasque and her husband, John, Yucaipa, Calif.; her grandchildren, Richard Norman Jr., Shane Norman, Amy Norman Norris and her husband, Steve, Brooke LeVesque Rice and her husband, Dan, and John Norman LeVesque, all of California; her great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Kaile, and Katie Norris; her brother, H.H. Edwards and his wife, Nancy, Grove; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bachman, Oklahoma City; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be Bob Edwards, Carl BeVille, Richard Norman Jr., Shane Norman, John Norman LeVesque, and Danny Rice. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Cole, Bill Kidd, Mike Russell, Gil Morgan, Roger Friar, Dennis Phillips, and Mike Bachman.

Warren Hubbard

Funeral services for former Lima resident Warren Kenneth Hubbard are pending in San Diego, Calif. Hubbard died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003 in San Diego. He grew up in Lima and attended Lima Elementary School and Douglas High School in Wewoka. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. W.W. and Beatrice Hubbard; and one sister, Edna Posey. Hubbard is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Michael; two daughters, Terrie and Helena Hubbard; one grandson; three brothers, James of National City, Calif., Alfred of Washington, D.C., and Ural of Colorado Springs of Colo.; and seven sisters, Jean Wright of Seminole, Lois Broussard, Vera Jones, Veinedy Wright, Hope Hayes, Faye Jones of Maryland, and Glenn Dora Grant of Wichita, Kans.

Dennis ‘Dino’ Ainesworth

SHAWNEE – A memorial service for Dennis “Dino” Ainesworth, who worked in Seminole County, was scheduled for Tuesday morning at Chapel of Walker Funeral Service. Rev. Ray Belford was set to officiate. Services were under the direction of Walker Funeral Service of Shawnee. Ainesworth died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003 at an Oklahoma City Hospital at the age of 43. He was born July 29, 1959 in Claremore to Bob and Mary Ainesworth. He attended schools at Nowata, Sequoyah, Chilloch, and Wann. Ainesworth was the plant foreman for Al-Ko Kober Industries. He was a national Gold Glove boxer. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Marvin Ainesworth; and one sister, Aleta Katherine Ainesworth. Ainesworth is survived by his wife, Leslie Lynn Ainesworth of the home; three sons, Dion Ainesworth of Dewey, Mike Ainesworth of Shawnee, and Kane Ainesworth of the home; three daughters, Roxanne Dobbs and Melissa Smith, both of Dewey, and Lacretia Ainesworth of Holdenville; two stepchildren, Scotti Lynn and Rory, both of the home; five grandchildren; and seven brothers and sisters, Bobbi Winters, Eddie Ainesworth, David Ainesworth, Richard Ainesworth, Dondi Henry, Wigi Black, Tandi Warren, Joe Ainesworth, Tony Ainesworth, Robin Ainesworth, and Mike Ainesworth.

Cecilia Elliott

Funeral services for Cromwell resident Cecilia L. Elliott were scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at Cromwell Baptist Church. Rev. Carl Whitfield was set to officiate. Interment followed at Schoolton Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home. Elliott died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003 at Unity Health Center of Shawnee at the age of 65. She was born July 12, 1937 in Talala to James B. and Elena (Kniffen) Epple. She had been a resident of Cromwell for 45 years where she managed the local Stuckey’s Pecan Shoppe for 20 years before retiring. Elliott was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Cromwell. She also served as a Butner School Board member. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kenneth Walter Elliott Jr.; one brother, James Mallay Epple; and two sisters, Deloris Lay and Bonnie Spurgeon. Elliott is survived by three daughters, Jeanny Allensworth of Cromwell, Sherta Elliott of San Diego, Texas, and Sylvia Smith of Guthrie; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and Patty Epple of Dewey and Charles Epple of Nowata; and one sister, Juanita Anders of Nowata. Pallbearers were Dane Allensworth, Rusty Elliott, James Hewitt, Floyd Hewitt, David Hewitt, John Mark Spurgeon, Robert Hassell, and Jimmy Factor. Honorary pallbearers were Carl Warrington, Gene Warrington, Kenneth Edgemond, Kenneth DeShields, John L. Spurgeon, and Leon Brown.

Helen (Rodgers) Blair

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Helen Jenette (Rodgers) Blair are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Trena Smithee is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Blair died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 70. She was born Dec. 2, 1932 in Seminole to Elza Byron and Dora Meala (Fisher) Rodgers. She married Eubin Blair on Dec. 16, 1957 in Seminole. He preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 1971. Blair retired from Hayes Axle on Oct. 30, 1992 after 16 years. She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Cleta and Janet Marshall; stepchildren, Judy and David Blair; her mother, Cora Spann; her father, Byron Rodgers; four sisters, Edna Rodgers, Ruby Houck, Alice Houck, and Cathryn Rodgers; and her brother, Eldon Dean Rodgers. She is survived by one brother, Elza Rodgers of Wewoka; and one sister, Carolyn Sue Huntington of The Dalles, Ore.

Elsie Penny

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Elsie June Penny are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel. Rev. Larry Chesser is set to officiate. Flag ceremony will be performed by the Department of the Army – Ft. Sill Military Service Representative Team. Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direc tion of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Penny died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at her home in Wewoka, at the age of 82. She was born in McAlester on June 30, 1920, to Chancy McGinnis and Elizabeth Jewell Floyd. Her family moved to Wewoka in 1925 and she attended schools in Wewoka and New Lima. Penny served in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps during World War II. She married Douglas Penny on Oct. 23, 1944. He preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 1997. She worked as a nurse’s aide. Survivors include her daughter, Ramona Slayton of Wewoka, son, Douglas W. Penny of Ft. Gibson; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Wilburn Leon Sperry; one sister and one brother. Pallbearers will be Westly Thomas, Bud Crockett, Tommy Henson, Daniel Grizzle, Sonny Schulter, Sonny Turnbo and Robert W. Penny.

Willie Lee Eubanks

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Willie Lee Eubanks are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel. Johnny Hinton is set to officiate. Interment is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Eubanks died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at Norman Regional Hospital at the age of 85. She was born April 1, 1917 in Wewoka to Thomas Jefferson “Raymond” and Jennie May Brooks Carroll. She attended schools in Adair and Seminole County. Eubanks married C.V. Eubanks on July 7, 1937 in Wewoka. He preceded her in death in June of 1990. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ in Wewoka. She was baptized at the age of 13. She is survived by one daughter, Diane Loughman of Norman; three sisters, Ruth Jeffery of Wewoka, and Edith Roberts and Alta Dyer, both of Edmond; two granddaughters; and one great- grandson. Eubanks was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Merel Carroll; and two sisters, Lena Taughber and Ethel Winebarger. Pallbearers are Dave Roberts, Jim Richmond, Steve Richmond, Pat Allen, Noel Curington, and George Richmond. Honorary pallbearer is her grandson, Madison Allen.

Hazel Dilbeck

Word has been received of the death of former Seminole resident Hazel Dilbeck. Dilbeck died Dec. 6, 2002 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 88. She was born Jan. 19, 1914 in Bloomer, Ark. to Herbert and Bessie Stuckey. She graduated from Wetumka High School and attended junior college in Wetumka. Dilbeck married T.P. Dilbeck. They lived in Seminole from 1940 to 1960. She had traveled to Canada, Mexico, and all 50 states. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Fred; a sister, Irene; two brothers, Elzie and Dale; and her husband. Dilbeck is survived by two daughters, Jan Dilbeck of Houston, Texas, and Neva Dilbeck Simonton of Katy, Texas; three grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and one brother, Jim Stuckey of Odessa, Texas.

Billy Don Allen

Funeral services for Seminole resident Billy Don Allen are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tim Green is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Allen died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 62. He was born Jan. 19, 1940 in Spaulding to George Washington and Mattie Bestine (Cain) Allen. He married Kathy M. (Dillon) on June 25, 1960 in Seminole. She survives him of the home. Allen retired from the street department of the City of Seminole. He was a member of Twin Oak Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Debbie Cox in 1982; two granddaughters, Courtney Martin and Chrystal Cox; one brother, Kenneth Allen; and one sister, Muriel Rose. Allen is also survived by one son, Ricky Allen of Wewoka; one daughter, Becky Martin of Seminole; three grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Allen of Wewoka; two sisters, Jewel Allen of Wewoka and Helen Redwine of Spaulding.

Togie Harjo

Togie Harjo of Holdenville passed away Jan. 10, 2003 in Wewoka at the age of 83. She was born in Sasakwa on Sept. 22, 1919 to Eliza and Edmond Att. Togie was raised in the Sasakwa area and attended school there. She was married to Barney Harjo, who preceded her in death in the 1970s. She was also preceded in death by one son, James Harjo, in 2002. Togie worked many years for the Manhattan Café and later worked for the Street Car Café. She enjoyed quilting and cooking for family. She is survived by one daughter, Susie Clifft of Wewoka; one son, Jimmy Harjo of Holdenville; three brothers, Jimmy McGirt of Wewoka, Walter McGirt of Moore, William McGirt of Oklahoma City; one sister, Elsie Faulkner of Holdenville; eight grandchildren, Darleata Harjo, Timothy Harjo, Natasha Harjo, Christi Farris, Barry Harjo, James Harjo Jr., Nancy Harjo, and Steven Harjo; eight great- grandchildren, Jericho Coker, Brittanie Farris, Christian Farris, Darian Farris, Shilo Farris, Terrence Harjo, Erickha Harjo, and Blake Harjo. Other survivors include a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Wake services are to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, 2003 at Hudson-Phillips Chapel. The procession to Rock Springs Baptist Church in Sasakwa will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003 at Rock Springs. Burial will follow at the McGirt Cemetery, southwest of Sasakwa, under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Kevin Farber, Craig Farber, Brandon Farber, Jerry Deere, James Harjo Jr., and Jericho Coker.
