Doris Colvi

Gravesidel services for lifelong Seminole resident Doris Maxine Colvin are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Little Cemetery. Rev. Roy Robertson will officiate. Colvin died at home on Monday, March 17 at the age of 69. She was born to Cleve Lyn Bounds, Sr. and Annie (Patterson) Bounds on March 23, 1933 in Konawa. She married to Armond Colvin on Jan. 28, 1950 in Seminole County. She was preceded in death by her parents , three brothers and one sister. Survivors include Armond Colvin of the home, three daughters, Ella Presley of Seminole; Barbara Marshall of Oklahoma City; and Pam Brown of Mustang; one brother, C.L. Bounds of Konawa and one sister Nola Bumpus of California. Colvin was a homemaker and a member of Bowlegs First Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing and working in flower beds.

Joe Denison

Funeral services for former Seminole resident John Denison are scheduled for Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Historic Strothers Chapel under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Denison died at the age of 82 on March 24, 2003 at home in Duncan. He was born in St. Frances, Kan on August 4, 1920 to Blaine Denison and Theda (Crosby) Denison. He was married to Pearl (Mcdaniel) Denison on May 4, 1946 in Las Vegas. He lived in Seminole from 1961 to 1989. He was retired from the Air Force where he was a Master Sgt. and flew 33 missions as a B17 pilot and received a Distinguished Flying Cross with four oak leaf cluster. He was also a retired rural mail carrier and was managing the family farm. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Seminole. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Denison of the home; one daughter, Sharon Kay Hale of Marlow; two brothers, Walter J. Denison of Vacaville, Calif. and C.E. Denison of Dodge City, Kan; and one sister, Hilda Tygrett of Indianapolis, Ind; two grandchildren, Dolly Nelson and Danny Joe Hale and three great- grandchildren, Amber Kinman, David Hale, and Jessica Nelson. Rev. Tracy L. Wilson will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearing Funeral Home.

Bobby Cravens

Funeral services for Konawa native Bobby Wayne Cravens are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Vondel Smith and Son located at 13125 N. MacArthur in Oklahoma City. Cravens was born in Konawa on June 8, 1936 to R.C. and Opal Cravens. He died on March 15, 2003 at his home in Oklahoma City. He was married to Linda Dishman Cravens for 33 years and had two children, Robin Renee Cravens, 31, of Tulsa and Robert Charlie Cravens, 29, of Oklahoma City. His parents, R.C. Cravens in 1967 and Opal Cravens in 2002 preceded him in death. He is survived by one brother, Dean Cravens and his wife, Linda Sue of Oklahoma City; his Aunt Gladys Lankford of Oklahoma City; one niece, Stephanie Cravens of Los Angeles, Calif.; and nephews Tom Cravens of Oklahoma City; Chris Dishman of Chickasha; and Derick Dishman of Headrick; one brother-in-law, Mike Dishman and wife, Diane of Headrick; mother-in-law, Juanita Dishman of Altus and special aunt by marriage, Dovie Dishman of Altus. He also leaves behind many cousins and long time friends. He was a retired commodities broker from Barnes Brokerage in Edmond and a life long tennis player. He was known for his good spirit, his generosity and sense of humor and was a beloved father and husband. It was often said that he “never knew a stranger.” He continued to keep up these spirits while enduring a long fight to overcome a series of health conditions that plagued his last seven years of life. He is finally at peace and he will be missed. A graveside service will follow at Konawa Cemetery at 2 p.m.

Jeannette Bland

Funeral services for Jeannette Marie Bland of Seminole, were held Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at the Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Holdenville. Rev. Roy Robertson officiated the services. Interment followed at the Holdenville Cemetery, under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Jeannette passed away Friday, March 21, 2003 in Oklahoma City at the age of 55. She was born to Daniel Bland and Thelma (Ledbetter) Bland on June 28, 1947 in Holdenville. Jeannette was raised in Hughes County and lived in the area most of her life. She attended school at Hulsey School and at Moss School and graduated from Moss. Jeannette loved to crochet and make crafts of all kinds. She also enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. Jeannette was preceded in death by her father; her grandfather, Ollie Ledbetter; her grandmother, Cordie Ledbetter; and one brother, Jerry Bland. She is survived by two sons, Larry Hale and Les Hale; her mother, Thelma Griffith; three sisters, Gloria Guthrie, Brenda Griffith, and Sharon Woods; and numerous aunts, uncles, and other family and loved ones.

Virginia Beggs

Virginia Lee “Ginger” Beggs, Wewoka resident, died Saturday, March 23, 2003 at the age of 61, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in OklahomaCity on March 3, 1941, to Leon Henderson and Lucille McKinley Henderson. She grew up in California, graduating from school and married Donald R. Beggs on March 21, 1959; they moved to Oklahoma in the mid 60s. She was a homemaker throughout her married life, and her husband of 30 years died in December of 1989. In 1991 she went to work for Seminole County District Attorney’s office in Wewoka - Seminole County and retired in March 2001. She is survived by her fiancé, Wayne Carter of Wewoka; her children, Donna Robertson, Gigi Martin and Jeff Beggs; her granddaughter, Heather Robertson of Wewoka; her brothers and sisters, Paul Henderson, Stockton, Calif., Cookie Stears, Palm Dale, Calif., Pauline Lopez, Tracy, Calif., Ron Henderson, Arlington, Washington; Charlene Osteen, Salt and Sea, Calif.,and Norma Jean Long, Wilton, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Wayne Henderson and Donald Henderson. Funeral services were held at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel, Wewoka, on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. John Lively officiating. Pallbearers will be Bobby Sneed, Rusty Carter, Kevin Roberts, Dave Carter, Jim Carter and Josh Welsh. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Peterson, Terry Kirby, John Hargrave, Dave Anderson, Joseph Rigley, Kenny Storks, John Coley, Mark Battershell, Clay Pettis and Tom Lemings. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, under the direc tion of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.

Vivian Brannon

Vivian Evelyn Brannon passed away on Friday, March 21, 2003, at El wood Manor Nursing Home in Wewoka, after a long and courageous fight with Alzheimers. Vivian was born February 1, 1928 in Sasakwa to George and Minia Huff. Vivian married Art Brannon on October 4, 1946, and followed him in his work to a variety of locations, from Rangely, Colorado to Odessa, Texas before settling in Holdenville in 1973. Vivian worked as a legal secretary for George Oliphant from early 1970s until her retirement. Vivian attended the East Main Church of Christ until her Alzheimers forced her to move to Elmwood Manor Nursing Home. Vivian was a dedicated Christian wife and a loving, supportive mother, sister, and grandmother. Her loving smile, sense of humor, and obvious love for and pride in her family will be missed by all. Vivian is survived by one son, Mark of Hodlenville; one daughter, Cindy Ingram of Broken Arrow; three sisters, Kate Wilson of Holdenville, Georgetta Cullinan of Wewoka and Stella Lawson of Borger, Texas; nine grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, George and Minia Huff; her husband Art Brannon; one son, Phillip Brannon and one daughter, Pam Epperson; three sisters, Lorene Huff, Opal Brannon and Pauline Reams; two brohers, Alvie Huff and Archie Huff. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday at the East Main Church of Christ with Alan Eck officiating. Pallbearers were Doyle Wilson, Micah Mitchon, Phil Webb, David Epperson, Scot Treadwell, and Dwight Reams. Services are under the direc tion of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville.

Bessie Cornelius

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident Bessie Cornelius, known to her friends and family as “Aunt Bessie”, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mekesukey Baptist Church. Revs. George Harjoche and Dorsey Nero will officiate. Burial will follow at the Jones Family Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Cornelius died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at the Elmwood Manor Nursing Home in Wewoka at the age of 83. She was born to George Jones, a former Chief of the Seminole Nation in the 1930s, and Eliza (Morris) Jones on March 1, 1920 in Seminole. Cornelius was a retired office clerk from Tinker Air Force Base. She was a member of the Mekesukey Band of the Seminole Nation. Cornelius was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and one son, Darryl Cornelius. She is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Galbreath, Seminole; one son, Glynn Cornelius, Seminole; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Cornelius

Georgia Biggers

Funeral services for Georgia Ann Biggers are scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church. Rev. Beverly Cook will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direc tion of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman, Texas. Biggers died Friday, March 21, 2003 at the ate of 91. She was born in Holdenville in 1911 and lived in the Pampa, Texas area for 41 years before moving to Spearman. She was married to Cecil Biggers in 1933. She was a telephone operator for 16 years A.T. & T. She worked for C.R. Anthony clothing for over 25 years before retiring in 1987. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Pampa. She is survived by one son, Cecil R. Biggers of Spearman; one sister, Florida Belle Surgnier of Ada, two granddaughters, and one great-grandson. She was precede in death by her husband, Cecil Biggers in 1933. The family requests memorials to be sent to Central Baptist Church Nursery Ministries in Pampa, Texas or Faith Lutheran Church in Spearman.

Tom Beaver

Funeral services for Wewoka resident, Tom “Cu’ke” Beaver, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, at Sand Creek Eufaula Indian Baptist Church, southwest of Wewoka. Revs. Houston Tiger and Joe Factor will officiate. Interment will follow at Spencer Family Cemetery, Limestone Community, under the direction of the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka. Wake Services were scheduled for 6:00 PM Saturday, March 22, 2003, at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel. Mr. Beaver will be moved to Sand Creek Eufaula Indian Baptist Church at 4 p.m.. Monday, for a wake service there Monday evening at 7 p.m. Mr. Beaver died March 21, 2003, at the home of his sister in Oklahoma City, at the age of 61. He was born Jan. 25, 1942, in Holdenville, Okla., to George Beaver and Lousanna Johnson Beaver and grew up in Hughes and Seminole Counties. He attended New Model Schools, and worked as a carpenter for Collins Lumber until he retired in 1991. He married Mary Spencer in 1971; she preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 2001. He is survived by his children, Tommy George Beaver, Ada; Tom Little Beaver, Ada; Freddie James Beaver, Wewoka; Regina Renee Beaver, Ada; Mary Elizabeth Beaver, Seminole; and Thomas Beaver, Wewoka; his sisters, Wynema Russell, Oklahoma City, and Elouise Johnson, Holdenville; and 17 grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Bridget Ann Beaver; a grandson, Justin John Factor; and three brothers, Cecil Harjo, Sam Beaver and Benjamin Washington. Pallbearers will be Eastman Johnson, Richard Cotton, Jay Smallwood, Terry Smallwood, Chris Johnson and Daniel Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Spencer, Robin Beaver, Sam Beaver, Jr. and Marcus Henderson.

Edward Duncan

Funeral services for Edward Ray “Uncle Ed” Duncan, brother of Bowlegs resident Bonnie Schlueter, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ in Seminole. Chris Stinnett, Minister of the Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Uncle Ed passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2003 at the age of 75. He was born to Andrew Jackson Duncan and Florence (Turrentine) Duncan on Dec. 17, 1927. Uncle Ed was a corporal in the U.S. Army with the 45th Infantry, having served in Korea for 18 months. After returning from Korea, he worked for Double Cola in Seminole for 30 years, retiring in 1981. After retiring from Double Cole, Uncle Ed worked for Wrangler until 1998 when he retired. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Jackson Duncan and Florence (Turrentine) Duncan; two brothers, Hugh Duncan and Sie Duncan; and five sisters, Della Duncan, Edith Duncan, Helen Houtz, Margie Schlueter, and Virginia Bender. Uncle Ed is survived by one sister, Bonnie Schlueter and her husband, Hoyle, Bowlegs; one brother-in-law, John Bender, Seminole; several nieces and nephews including, Mike and Roberta Bender, Ray and Susie Brady, Joe and Betty Craig, George and Shirley Howell, Steve Bender, David and Teresa Duncan, Jimmy and Lois Duncan, Don and Mary Haggerty, Ronnie Duncan, John Duncan, Debbie Jost, Mark Schlueter, and Rick and Barbara Hartman. Pallbearers will be Jon Craig, Joseph Craig, James Howell, Ryan Pierce, Travis Duncan, and Frank Schlueter. Honorary bearers will be Joe Templeton, C.D. Houck, Glen Siler, Clint Jackson, Joe McRay, Ralph Caster, and Jack Mattingly, Sr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Church of Christ Building Fund.

Susan Cardoza

Funeral services for Sasakwa native Susan (Pennokee) Cardoza, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Birdcreek Baptist Church in Sasakwa. Brother Ledtkey McIntosh and Brother Eugene Harjo will officiate. Burial will follow at the Wilson Family Cemetery in Sasakwa, under the direction of PickardSwearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Wake services will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at Glorieta Baptist Church, located at 7308 S. Western in Oklahoma City. Mrs. Cardoza will be moved to the Bird Creek Baptist Church in Sasakwa on Wednesday evening, with other wake services planned for Thursday night at 7 p.m. Cardoza died Monday, March 10, 2003 at her home in Oklahoma City at the age of 55. She was born to Richmond Pennokee and Virginia (Wolfe) Pennokee on Jan. 19, 1948 in Sasakwa. Cardoza was a dietician and Cafeteria Manager for Oklahoma City Public Schools. She was a member of the Bird Creek Baptist Church in Sasakwa. Cardoza was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; one sister, Ramona Stewart on Dec. 11, 2002; her husband, Sam Chotkey; and one son, Richmond Chotkey. She is survived by two sons, Gabriel Cardoza, and Johnny Cardoza, both of Oklahoma City; three brothers, Richard, Gary, and Nathan Pennokee, all of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Nancy Musser, Belva Pennokee, and Rachel Pennokee, all of Oklahoma City; and one grandchild. Pallbearers will be Anthony Bitseedy, R.J. Harjo, Joey Pennokee, James Haag, Matt DeLana, and Terry Harjo.

Freda Fleming

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Freda June (Mainord) Fleming, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Wewoka. Brother Tim Emmons of Prague will officiate. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka. A prayer service is scheduled for tonight from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the StoutPhillips Funeral Chapel. Freda passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at the age of 62, following a brief courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Seminole on March 13, 1940, to Grover Samuel Mainord and Bertha Mainord. Freda grew up in Seminole County and graduated from Bowlegs High School in 1958. Freda and Jimmie Dale Fleming were married in Wewoka on Aug. 27, 1981, and the couple made Wewoka their home. She worked for Ben’s Bar-B-Que in Wewoka for a number of years and was currently employed as department head in jewelry for Wal-Mart Associates. Freda was preceded in death by her father; two brothers, Glendon and Garland Mainord; one grandson, Jory McLoud Griffin; and her mother and father-in-law, Papa and Nan Watson. She is survived by her husband, of the home; her mother, Mrs. G.S. Mainord, Bowlegs; her children and their spouses, John David and Dawn Griffin, Prague, Jan and Paul Harris, Bogalusa, La., James “Sparky” and Beth Griffin, Patuxent River, Md., Dina Lynn Griffin, Dallas, Texas, Misty Ann and Chris Crowson, Wewoka, Denice and Dave Hardy, San Antonio, Texas, Terri and Decker Sanders, Mt. Home, Idaho, and John Doyle Fleming, San Antonio, Texas; eight grandsons, 10 granddaughters; and two great-grandsons; her siblings, Hope and Bill Taylor, Broken Arrow, Marcine Roberson, Bowlegs, Dean McNally, Atoka, Deloris and JR Jennings, San Angelo, Texas, Evelyn and James Stevens, Ardmore, Carolyn and Charles Dean, Pauls Valley, Lynda and Lynn Tipton, Euless, Texas, and Gilbert and Mary Ann Mainord, Enid; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and other relatives. Pallbearers will be John David Griffin, James “Sparky” Griffin, Billy Dale Cecil, Chris Crowson, Paul Harris, and Lyndal McMillan. Honorary pallbearers will be James Thomas Griffin, Michael David Griffin, Dave Hardy, John Doyle Fleming, Tyler Climer, Nathan Griffin, and Braeden Griffin.

Irma Bridges

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Irma LaFawn (Fleming) Bridges, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. David Karges will officiate. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Irma passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at Seminole Estates Nursing Home at the age of 71. She was born to Hilliard Edwards and Nellie Louise (Cochran) Edwards on July 1, 1931 in Marietta. Irma lived in Seminole for 29 years, moving here from Shawnee. She later lived in Dallas, Texas, before moving back to Seminole. Irma married William “Bill” Joseph Fleming on Jan. 18, 1953. He preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 1978. Irma later married Roger Bridges who also preceded her in death. She worked with her husband William in Fleming’s Accounting Business for 18 years until his death in 1978. Irma later worked as a live-in-nanny for many years in Dallas, Texas. She was a member of the Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas, and a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole. Irma attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, and enjoyed flower gardening, fishing on Lake Texoma, and ballroom dancing. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, A.C. Weese; her two husbands; and one sister, Ruth Dawn Edwards. Irma is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Victor Fleming, Houston, Texas, and Bruce and Linda Fleming, Oklahoma City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Tom Smith, Norman, and Pam and Curtis Morgan, Seminole; one brother, Gene Edwards, Brussels, Belgium; three sisters, Jean Thomason, Collinsville, Verna Valentine, Tulsa, and Ginger Edney, Seminole; and seven grandchildren, Katie, Kristen, Kendra, and Kelsey Fleming, all of Oklahoma City, Andrew Smith, Norman, and Tyler and Jessica Morgan, both of Seminole.
