Funeral services for Seminole resident Harvey Ervin “Pete” Black, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at the Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home Chapel in Pauls Valley. Doug Arnold will officiate the services. Interment will follow at the Whitebead Cemetery in Pauls Valley, under the direction of the Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home. Black died Monday, March 3, 2003 at his home in Seminole at the age of 90. He was born to John and Ida Mae (Hawkins) Black on Dec. 4, 1912 in Cement. The Pauls Valley and Paoli area was his childhood home, and following his father’s death, he lived with his aunt Martha and uncle Will Hawkins in Western Oklahoma. In the 1930’s, Black moved to Wanette where he worked for his uncle Ralph Black at Cunningham’s Filling Station and hauled cattle and hogs to the Stockyards in Oklahoma City. While in Wanette, he met Molly Lucille Jackson. The couple were married on May 23, 1936 in Konawa, and made Wanette their home for the next 10 years. On July 4, 1946, the couple moved to Oklahoma City where Black went to work for the M&M Super Service for nearly 22 years. thus In 1967, Black bought the wrecker service from M&M Super Service, thus founding the M&M Wrecker Service. Black continued to operate the wrecker service until his retirement in March of 1982. In 1983, Black moved to Seminole County where he raised cattle and enjoyed a working retirement. Black was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, in 1972; his parents; three brothers; and two sisters. He is survived by one son, Ralph Black, Seminole; one brother, A.C. Black of California; one sister, Mary June Hardy of Colorado; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Rose Beach
Rose Beach of Richmond, Va., passed away on March 2, 2003. Funeral services were scheduled to be held on March 4, in Richmond, Va. Beach was survived by her son and his wife, Todd and Stacy Beach, Seminole, who have two sons, Andrew and Aaron Beach; and her daughter Ronnie Stanberry and her son Mark Stanberry, also of Seminole.
Lorene Fish
Funeral services for Seminole resident Lorene “Joan” Fish are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Resthaven Memorial Park Chapel in Shawnee. A short reception will follow at the Resthaven Memorial Park Chapel. Fish died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003 in El Paso, Texas after a lengthy illness. She was born Lila Lorene Madden on July 2, 1916 in Bellville, Ark., but was raised in Holdenville. She married Clarence Fish, a field foreman for Sinclair Oil Company in 1938. After eight years in Venezuala, Mr. and Mrs. Fish settled in Bowlegs with their only child, Charles Roger Fish. Clarence preceded Lorene in death in 1989. Fish was a permanent fixture in Seminole, working at Shuler’s Rexall Drug, then at Central Drug for years. She knew virtually everyone in the area and had many friends. After retiring, Fish maintained her connections with the people of Seminole and was more or less a career juror, serving on many court cases. She is survived by her son, Charles, El Paso, Texas; two sisters, Pauline Wagner and Lucille Kibby, both of Holdenville; and two grandchildren. Honorary casket bearers will be Buck Buchanan, Phil Biddy, Rex Kibby, Chuck Kibby, Richard Fish, and Robert Fish.
Clifford Briery II
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Clifford “Cliff” Edward Briery, II, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Noma Mansell will officiate the services. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Briery passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003 at Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born to Clifford “C.E.” Edward Briery and Genny (Cook) Briery on July 5, 1951 in Seminole. Briery was a 1969 graduate of Seminole High School, and a University of Oklahoma graduate. He received his Law Degree from OCU. Briery was an attorney for Charles Hill in Norman, and was a member of the First Christian Church. He is survived by his parents; and one sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Michael Townsend of Plano, Texas; three aunts, Helen Jones and Velva Rogers, both of Oklahoma City, and Edna Marie Briery of Shreveport, La.; two nieces, Ashley Slaughter of Plano, Texas and her children, Jurnee, Dalton, and Cade, and Alisha Rand of Frisco, Texas and her child, Haylee; and a host of other family and friends.
Robert Elkins
Funeral services for Bowlegs resident Robert E. Elkins have been planned for a later date in Springfield, Mass., according to Swearingen Funeral Home. Elkins died at his residence on Monday, Feb. 24, 2003 at the age of 85. He was born to Edgar H. Elkins and Annie Sanders on Feb. 10, 1918 in Springfield, Mass. Elkins graduated from Dartmouth College in 1939, and Thayer School of Engineering in 1940. He married Myrtle Hockenberry. He was a former president of Adams and Ruxton Construction Company in Springfield, Mass., and was a veteran of World War II. Elkins was a member of the Samuel D. Sherwood Lodge of Masons, and active Civitan member and Eagle Scout Troop 25 of the First Baptist Church, and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Myrtle Hockenberry in 1985. Elkins is survived by one son, Jake Elkins, Jackson, Wyo.; two daughters, Elizabeth Elkins, Enfield, Conn., and Susanne Major, Seminole; one sister, Dorothy Giddings, Grantspass, Ore.; and three grandchildren.
Dorothy Gibbens
Funeral services for Wewoka native Dorothy Louise (Dottie) Gibbens are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Oklahoma City. Gibbens died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003. She was born to Edythe and Thomas R. Seay in Wewoka on Jan. 29, 1935. Gibbens was manager of the corporate computer section of the Fleming Company, and was an associate with Prudential Real Estate. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, and a member of the Oklahoma Historical Society. Gibbens is survived by her husband, James C. Gibbens; two daughters, Cynthia Louise Steels, and Elizabeth Anne White; five grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.
Bonita Camp
Funeral services for Bonita Jane Camp, mother of Wewoka resident Pojoe Camp, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church, southwest of Wewoka. Rev. Houston Tiger will officiate. Interment will follow at the Camp Family Cemetery, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka. All-night wake services will begin tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church. Camp died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at Carl Albert Indian Hospital in Ada at the age of 41. She was born to Leo Little and Dona Mae (Humble) Little on March 20, 1961 in Holdenville. Camp was reared in the Bearden community and graduated from Bearden School. She married Barney Camp, Jr., in January 1981. Camp worked as a certified nurse’s aide at Heritage Village Nursing Home in Holdenville until she retired due to illness in 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney, on Nov. 28, 2001. Camp is survived by her children, Steven Camp and Kenneth Camp, both of Stillwell, Darin Camp, Holdenville, Pojoe Camp, Wewoka, Vicki Camp, Cadillac Warren, Mich., Michelle Robison, Holdenville, and Teresa Camp, Wewoka; her siblings, Jim Humble and Sue Yahola, both of Okemah, Bob Little, Sundown, Texas, Sam Little, Bearden, Jackie Little, Eufaula, and Ann Osborn, Pragule, Ark.; and 10 grandchildren. Ronna Terrell Bailey
Ronna Terrell Bailey of Longmont, Colo., died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 at Hospice of Boulder County at the age of 44. She was born on June 18, 1958 to Dennis Ronald “Ron” and Mary Louise (King) Terrell in Holdenville. Ronna’s parents lived in Sasakwa from 1958-1960. Ronna’s father Ron served as Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Sasakwa. Ronna attended school in Ft. Collins, Colo., before she moved to Richardson, Texas. She received two bachelor’s degrees from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee. In 1970, Ronna’s mother married Roger Bailey. Two years later, he adopted Ronna and her sister Angie. Ronna taught high school French, German, and Spanish in Meeker for five years before moving to Boulder in 1986. She was a secretary and technical typesetter at the National Center for Atmospheric Research before becoming a mail carrier in Boulder. Ronna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Boulder and was active in the choir and the “Bridges” group. She was also a member of the University of Colorado Alumni Handbell Choir. Ronna enjoyed counted cross-stitch, music, genealogy, travel, and visiting the highest point in as many states as possible. She had a deep faith in Jesus Christ. Ronna was first diagnosed with cancer in 2001, but her cancer went into remission. In Sept. 2002, her cancer returned, and she was given a short time to live. Ronna attended a memorial/celebration-of-life service for herself on Nov. 1, 2002 at the First Presbyterian Church in Boulder. She was preceded in death by three grandparents, Rev. William and Agnes King, Tonkawa, and Grady Terrell, Wewoka. Ronna is survived by her parents, Mary and Roger Bailey, Longmont, Colo., and Ron and Bobbie Terrell, Warsaw, Mo.; three sisters, Angelique Malezieux and her husband Gilles, Paris, France, Nancy Ruth Bailey, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Holly Bailey, Greeley, Colo.; her grandmother, Beatrice Terrell Harjo, Wewoka; two uncles, Raymond Terrell, Kansas City, and Kenneth Terrell, Seminole; and several other aunts, uncles, and cousins. Cremation was held at Howe Mortuary in Longmont, Colo. Inurnment was held at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Tonkawa. Nettie M. Furgerson
Funeral services for Nettie M. Furgerson will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Assembly of God Church in Asher. Rev. Donna Morton is set to officiate. Interment will follow at the Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Furgerson died Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Unity North Health Center in Shawnee. She was born Sept. 21, 1918 in Fort Cobb to James Lee Matthews and Louella (Landers) Matthews. She married Cassie Hays Furgerson on Oct. 1, 1932 in Seminole. He preceded her in death Feb. 15, 1988. Furgerson was a homemaker and an in-home provider for the elderly and a member of the Assembly of God Faith church. She is survived by one son, Hays Eugene Furgerson of Chandler; two daughters, Francis Beggs of Commanche, Tx. And Wanda Faught of Stockton, Ca; 10 grandchildren, 14 great- grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; two brothers, J.C. Matthews of Lake Elisnore, Ca. and Elmer Matthews of Modesto, Ca. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Mary Ehrlich
Funeral services for Wewoka native Mary Ehrlich were scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday athe Okeene Seventh Day Adventist Church. Rev. Larry Schneider was to officiate. Burial was to follow in the East Cooper Cemetery in Loyal under the direction of Wilkinson Mortuary of Okeene . Ehrlich died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003 at the age of 81. She was born Jan. 20, 1922 in Wewoka to Albert and Kate Danielson. She was a resident of the Okeene community for over 50 years until moving to the Seminole area 20 years ago. Ehrlich attended Butner Schools and was a member of the Okeene seventh Day Adventist Church and the Seminole Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was an artist. She married Melvin Ehrlich in Geary on Aril 14, 1938. He survives her of the home. Ehrlich was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, David Eaton; three sisters; and two brothers. She is also survived by one daughter, Melvina Lou Thomas of Monte Vista, Colo.; two sisters, Dean Freeman of Midwest City and Betty Freeman of Shawnee; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the S.D.A. Church of Shawnee.

Ruth Crotts
Graveside funeral services for Seminole resident Ruth L. Crotts are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park. Rev. Cecil Spoonmore is set to officiate. Services are under the direc tion of Resthaven Funeral Home. Crotts died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003 at her home at the age of 90. She was born March 9, 1912 in Marbel City to Denver Ray and Eva L. (Stewart) Sloan. She was a sales associate for J.C. Penney Co. She also had worked for 10 years at Stokes Grocery in Miami. For several years, Crotts was an owner and operator of a restaurant in both Miami and Shawnee. She was a member of Ideal Street Baptist Church and the Home Extension Club of Seminole. She had lived in the Seminole area for 21 years. Crotts was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Al Crotts, in 1980; two brothers and one sister. She is survived by one daughter, Patti Weems of Seminole; two grandsons and five great- grandchildren.
Gladys Black
Funeral services for former longtime Seminole resident Gladys Black are were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church. Minister David Karges was set to officiate. He was to be assisted by Minister Bruce Lewis. Interment was to follow at Resthaven Memorial Garden under the direction of Calvary Funeral Home of Eunice, N.M. Black died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2003 in Hobbs, N.M. at the age of 99. She was born Dec. 12, 1903 in Cedar County, Mo. She married Rockford L. Black on Dec. 24, 1923 in Keystone. Black was a resident of Seminole for 69 years. She moved to Hobbs, N.M. in 2002. She was an active member of the Seminole First United Methodist Church since 1950. Black was an active member of the United Methodist Women’s Group and a charter member of the Wedding Ring Sunday School Class. She is survived by one son, Don Black of Weatherford; one daughter, Peggy Harris of Hobbs, N.M., one brother, John Strader of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and 13 great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
James Frances Cain
Funeral services for former longtime Seminole resident James Frances Cain are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Father Basil Keenan, O.S.B., is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direc tion of Swearingen Funeral Home. Cain died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 in Wichita Falls, Texas at the age of 64. He was born Aug. 12, 1938 in Oklahoma City to John H. and Alice (Lessing) Cain. He retired from the United States Navy in 1974 and from the reserves in 1985. Cain was Petty Officer First Class and served from 1955 to 1985. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jerome Paul and John Henry III. Cain is survived by his daughter, Holly Cain of Truckee, Calif.; and one sister, Joe Shore of Tulsa.
