Cassandra Rhodd

Funeral services for former Sasakwa resident, Cassandra Lynne (Harjo) Rhodd are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Monday at Bird creek Baptist Church in Sasakwa. She passed away May 30, 2003, at the Medical Center of Arlington, Texas at the age of 43. She was born on January 10, 1960 in Oklahoma City to Eugene and Elouis (Factor) Harjo. She attended schools in Shawnee and Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Benny Factor, Minnie Factor, Robert Harjo and Wisey Harjo. She is survived by her parents, Eugene Harjo of Henryetta and Elouis Factor of Shawnee; one daughter, Savanna Miller of Arlington, Texas and three sons, Rodney Harjo, Dewayne Rhodd and Jason Rhodd all of Arlington, Texas; three grandchildren, four brothers, Victor Harjo, Carlos Harjo and Darell Harjo, all of Shawnee and Benny John Harjo of Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Augustine Harjo of Arlington, Texas and Shannon Harjo of Henryetta; and a host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will include Mike Scott, Tom Kaskake, Steve Ellis, Randy Chakenethe, Terry Richie and Rodney Jones. Honorary pallbearers will include Robert Harjo, Tommy Harjo, Artimus Melton, Leon Lusty and Hap Harjo. Revs. Bill Hobia and Kenneth Cooper will officiate. A wake service will be held Saturday evening at 6 p.m. at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel. She will be moved to the church on Sunday at 4 p.m., with wake service starting at 7 p.m. Interment will follow at Bird Creek Church Cemetery in Sasakwa under the direction of the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.

Gracie Sanders

Graveside services for Gracie Murriel Sanders, the aunt of Seminole resident Ginger Edney, are scheduled for Monday at the White Dove Cemetery in Sparks. She died on May 30, 2003, at the age of 86, in Shawnee. She was born on October 14, 1916 in Everman, Texas to John Calvin Cockrom and Dora Missouri (Wilson) Cockrom. She moved to Missouri when she was four years old and then moved to Sparks at the age of 12. She then moved to Marietta in 1952 and came back to Shawnee in 1979. She retired from the Meeker Dairy Mart after 10 years. She was a member of the Bible Temple Church of Shawnee. She was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, three brothers and one son, John Henry Simmons. Officiating will be Rev. Guy Cagle under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Earl Lynn Mason

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident, Earl Lynn Mason, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. He died on May 29, 2003 at the age of 42, in the DVA Medical Center. He was born on June 12, 1960, in Shawnee to Jack and Edith Mable (Braden) Mason. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. His parents and his birth father, Victor Mason, preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters, Rachel Moon of Tahlequah and Misty Michelle Warner of Texarkana, Texas; and one half-brother, Kenneth Mason. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the services. Interment to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Rutger Alan Harjo

Funeral services for Rutger Alan Harjo, the grandson of former Seminole resident, George Harjo, are scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. in the Church of the First Born, located at 100 SE 46th in Oklahoma City. A wake service is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. in the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. Rutger Alan Harjo was born April 17, 1988 in Oklahoma City. He passed from this life on May 25, 2003, in Oklahoma City. Rutger attended Crooked Oak School. He enjoyed fishing with his grandfather, George Harjo. He was a Native American Indian and a member of the Seminole/Cherokee tribes. He was preceded in death by his father, Franklin Harjo; Grandmother, Kathleen Harjo; and uncle, Steve Spain. Surviving relatives include his grandfather, George Harjo of Oklahoma City; grandmother, Gerri Scott also of Oklahoma City; Becky Spain, the one who served as his mother; one brother, Jerrad Spain; several uncles and aunts including Mike Spain, Gary and Lori Spain. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Peck, Dwight Lee

Dwight Lee Peck, 87, of Norman died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at Norman Regional Hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Goodrich Memorial Methodist Church with Dr. Marvin Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Havenbrook Funeral Home is handling arrangements. He was born on June 30, 1915 in Fanshawe Oklahoma, to Henry L. and Mary Smith Peck. He grew up in LeFlore County, OK and in 1934 was graduated from Howe Public Schools. In 1939 he graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Agriculture. From 1939 to 1942 he and his wife taught school in the LeFlore County School District. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he received his basic training at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA. His next assignment was to the Farragut Naval Hospital Corps School at Farragut Naval Base, Idaho, where as a member of the faculty he taught basic medical courses such as anatomy and physiology to future Naval Medical Corpsmen from 1943 to 1945. Upon reaching the rank of Pharmacist First Class, he also served as a company commander. After being honorably discharged in October of 1945, he and his wife moved to McAlester where he was a public health officer. In July of 1946 he accepted a Vocational Agriculture teaching position with the Calvin Public Schools. During his 16 years at Calvin, in addition to his teaching responsibilities, he was the advisor for the Future Farmers of America, junior and senior class sponsor, organized a volunteer fire department and was active in many community projects. He also completed the requirements for a Master of Science in Agriculture Education from Oklahoma State University in 1952. Peck left teaching in 1961 for employment with the Farmer's Home Administration. After working with the FHA for several months, he transferred to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He was an Employment Assistance Officer for 19 years with the Seminole Indian Agency in Wewoka, until his retirement in 1981. He and his wife moved to Wewoka in 1966 where they were active in several community organizations. He especially enjoyed his involvement in the Wewoka Kiwanis and Lions Clubs and the weekly Men's Prayer Breakfast. In 1998, Peck and his wife moved to Norman to be near family. He was a member of the Goodrich Memorial Methodist Church, the Goodrich Chronologically Gifted group, the Cleveland County Retired Teachers Association and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Freda; grandson, Robert D. Reynolds; sister, Dixie Mae Peck and brother, Ralph S. Peck He is survived by his daughter, Cecelia and her husband Bob Reynolds of Norman; granddaughter, Christie Reynolds of Moore; brother, Joe. D. Peck and his wife, Linda of Maryville, TN; sister-in-law, Geraldine Peck of Norman; and several nieces and nephews.

Marjorie Thomas

Funeral services for Seminole resident Marjorie (Lee) Thomas were set for May 27 at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Henryetta. Thomas died at Seminole Medical Center on May 24, 2003 at the age of 93. She was born May 12, 1910 at Holdenville to Joe and Leona Lee and attended school at Hanna. She married Cecil Thomas on October 6, 1928 and they lived near Dustin for several years before buying a farm near Henryetta in 1943. A few years after their marriage, Cecil began preaching. In 1950, they went into fulltime ministry, moving to Bowlegs where they pastored the Assembly of God Church for 17 years. They then moved to Barnsdall where they pastored the Assembly of God Church two years prior to retirement. They moved back to Henryetta in 1978 and her husband passed away in 1985. They were married 56 ½ years. Her husband, her parents, four brothers, Cana Lee, Pike Lee, Mark Lee, Herbert Lee; and three sisters, Hazel Lee, Elsie Lee Thomas and Mildred Lee Barker preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons and two daughters; Gene Thomas and wife, Mary, of Ponca City, Noma Mansell and husband, Sam, of Seminole, Mildred Melton and husband, Eugene, of Wichita, Kan., and Bill Thomas and wife, Linda, of Kennard, Texas; nine grandchildren, Sharon Thomas Hunt, Robert Thomas, Mark Mansell, Scott Mansell, Steve Melton, Doug Melton, Ann Melton Caley, Tammy Thomas Salles and Jeff Thomas; 19 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Rev. Roy H. Robertson of Bowlegs will officiate the services, assisted by Rev. Ken Hunt of Springfield, Mo. Interment will be at Westlawn Cemetery at Henryetta under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta. A memorial has been established for the Missions Department of the Assemblies of God. Donations may be made through the Bowlegs Assembly of God Church, P.O. Box 58, Bowlegs, 74830.

Dwight L. Mills

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Dwight Lillard Mills, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home. Rev. Carl Whitfield is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Mills died May 22, 2003, at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 51. He was born in Seminole on Sept. 17, 1951 to Bobby Lindberg and Joan (Gilkey) Mills. After high school graduation, Mills served as a Senior Airman in the United States Air Force from May 13, 1974 until he was honorably discharged on May 12, 1978. After his service time, he worked with construction companies at gasoline and natural gas plants. He also worked as a security guard at a variety of locations. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan (Gilkey) Mills in 1966; his father, Bobby Lindberg Mills in 2002; his grandparents, Bertie and R.M. Mills and Grace and Barstow Gilkey; and an infant brother, James Lynn Mills in 1948. He is survived by his stepmother, Pauline Wilcox Mills of Seminole; step-sister, Diane Meeks of Noble; step-brothers, Buster and J.D. Wilcox, both of Seminole; aunt, Edna (Mills) Parrish of Seminole; uncles, Claud Mills of Midland, Texas and W.C. Mills of San Angelo, Texas. As a member of the Ruful M. Mills family, Dwight has many other cousins, aunts and extended family members who love him and will miss him Casket bearers are Rex Mills, Kenneth Parish, Buster Wilcox, Gene West, Melvin Underwood and J.D. Wilcox. Honorary bearers are Walter C. Mills, Claud Mills, Tommy Russell, Guy Harris, Leland Bancroft, Chuck Parish and Gene Mills.

Roy Fry

Graveside services for Seminole County resident, Roy Charles Fry of Konawa, were set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. He was born on Nov. 21, 1913 in Newton, Kan. to Frank Richard Fry and Bertha Elizabeth (Rath) Fry. He died on May 22, 2003 at the age of 89 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City. He married Barbara “Olene” (Barton) Fry on July 25, 1936 in Purcell. He was retired from Kraft Foods and was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Fry of the Home; two children, Roy Fry, Jr. of Chihuahua, Mexico and Monte Surber of Konawa; one brother, Roland Fry of Altus; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Officiating the service will be Rev. Charley Henthorn under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.

Kathryn Moss

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident, Kathryn Ann Moss of Cromwell, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Cromwell under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. She died on May 20, 2003, at the age of 59, at the Unity Health Center North. She was born on July 24, 1943, in Elizabeth, New Jersey to George Buckley and Kathryn Ann (Burke) Buckley and raised in Morgan City, La. She married Sydney Ray Matthews in 1964, who preceded her in death in 1971. She married Thomas A. Moss on January 21, 1995 in Oklahoma City. She was a registered nurse for a group of doctors in Shawnee. She graduated from Morgan City High School in 1963 and Northwestern University of Lafayette, La. She was an OU fan, enjoyed flowers, family, friends, animals and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband. Survivors include her husband, Thomas A. Moss of the home; one son, G. Michael Matthews of Dallas, Texas; two step-sons, Larry D. Moss of Broken Arrow and Danny T. Moss of Noble; one daughter, Mary Kathryn Matthews of Oklahoma City; two step-daughters, Cathy Hudson of Washington and Tamera Erickson of Richardson, Texas; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Honorary bearers are Michael Matthews, Travis Beckel, Arthur Osborn, Gene Coates and Kenneth Sapp. Officiating the service will be Rev. Carl Whitfield. Father Timothy Fuller of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Elk City will officiate at the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made tot he Oklahoma Heart Association.

Allen Odell Broome

Graveside services for longtime Seminole County resident Allen Odell Broome, are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Vamoosa Cemetery in Konawa. He died May 20, 2003 at the age of 72, at the Ballard Nursing Home in Ada. He was born on April 23, 1931, in North Carolina. He was a retired truck driver and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents. Rev. Wade Scott will be officiating under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.

Gwendolyn Jones

Funeral services for lifelong Konawa resident Gwendolyn Lee Jones were scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at the Sasakwa Assembly of God Church in Sasakwa. Rev. Wesley Martin was to officiate the services. Burial was to follow at the Vamoosa Cemetery, under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Jones died Friday, May 16, 2003 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 63. She was born to Johnny Pickett and Gladys (Van) Pickett on Jan. 13, 1940 in Wewoka. She married Bobby Jones on May 27, 1957 in Konawa. Jones was a seamstress with Wrangler, and was a member of the Sasakwa Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one infant son, David Jones. Jones is survived by her husband, Bobby, of the home; three sons, Johnny Jones, Maud, Michael Jones, Shawnee, and Eric Jones, St. Louis; one daughter, Ladonna Bryce, Konawa; one sister, Nyoka Griffen, Shawnee; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Katherine Blevins

Funeral services for former Seminole resident, Katherine Blevins, were scheduled for 2 p.m., May 20, 2003. She was born on July 26, 1920 to Brother Wallace and Beatrice Wilburn. She died May 16, 2003, in Seminole. She was born as a paternal twin into a family of 10 children, which consisted of five boys and five girls. She owned and operated a beauty salon for 25 years in Hobbs, N.M., where she was a resident for 40 years. Survivors include her son, Larry Moreland; Sister, Lavalla Spencer; two nephews, grandchildren, great-grand children and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Dian Moreland. A memorial service was held at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Clarence Dallas

Graveside services for Seminole resident Clarence William Dallas are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole. Dallas died Monday, May 19, 2003 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 72. He was born in Fetus, Mo., on Oct. 24, 1930. Dallas married Patricia Marie (Hill) Dallas. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 1988. Dallas moved to Seminole from Missouri in 1995, and was a retired landscaper for Twin City Landscaping in Crystal City, Mo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was of Catholic faith. Dallas was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Tina Lynn Dallas; and one son, Shawn Dallas. He is survived by one daughter, Penny Woodruff, Seminole; four sons, Clarence Dallas, Perryville, Mo., Tim Dallas, Fetus, Mo., and Terry Dallas and Patrick Dallas, both of Seminole; one brother, Marvin Dallas, Crystal City, Mo.; two sisters, Beatrice Bellfield, Fetus, Mo., and Delmay Helensmithe, Wichita Falls, Texas; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Anna Faye Lee

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Anna Faye Lee are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. She died on May 16, 2003, at the age of 60 at the Seminole Estates Nursing Home in Seminole. She was born on July 8, 1942 in Wewoka to O.U. “Pinto” Gray and Laura Ellen Gray. She was married to W.V. “Red” Lee, on Aug. 28, 1967 in Hugo. She was a beautician, homemaker, loving wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.V. Lee, on Oct. 23, 2000, her mother, and grandparents, many aunts, uncles and cousins. Her father, O.U. Gray of Talihina, two sons, Dwayne and Mindy Bland of Shawnee and Kevin Bland of Euless, Texas; and one sister, Norma Wilcox Stone of Seminole, survive her. Casket bearers are Glen Stafford, Howard Allen, Wendell Pitts, Tom Callison, Jay Nowlin and Rusty Hall. Honorary bearers will be W.E. “Pat” Stafford, Jerry Wade, Jimmy Wade, Bobby Goss and David Goss. Officiating the services will be Freeman Whitlock and Jim Smith. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
