Funeral Services for Sasakwa resident Louis Factor, Jr., 61, will be held Monday, May 19, 2003, at 2:00 P.M., at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel in Wewoka, with Reverends Frank Moppin and Billy Joe Harjo officiating. Factor died in Noble, Oklahoma on Friday, May 16, 2003. A wake service is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2003, at 6:30 P.M., at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel, Wewoka, Oklahoma. He was born November 14, 1942, in Sasakwa, to Mattie Lou (Bruner) Factor and Louis Factor. He attended Spring Baptist Church and was baptized there by the late Reverend George Jesse. He grew up in Sasakwa and graduated from Sasakwa High School; then he attended the Haskell Institute. He worked in the oilfield, and later was City Supervisor for the City of Weleetka, retiring from that position in 1996. He married and is survived by Elizabeth Hayes Factor, of the home, his mother, Mattie Lou Factor, Sasakwa; and two daughters, Gwen Factor, Okemah and Lou Ann Factor, Hugo; two stepchildren, Angie Harper, Noble and Glen Karamer, Henryetta; one sister, Ida Goettsche, Amarillo, Texas; three brothers, Larry Factor, Edmond, Jimmy Factor, Cromwell, and Ron Factor, Shawnee; one aunt, Alice Stevens of Tulsa, seven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Factor in 1988; and his grandparents, Charlie and Lucinda Factor. Pallbearers will be Tony Roulston, Hirum Roulston, Johnny Johnston, Matthew Factor, Nicholas Harper and Nathan Harper. Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Harjo and Glen Karamer. Interment was in the Factor Family Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Lola Jean Rush
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Lola Jean Rush, are scheduled for Monday at 10 a.m. at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel. She died May 15, 2003 at the age of 72 at her home in Seminole. She was born June 21, 1929 in Seminole to Ben Alton Reynolds and Gladys Mary (Hubbard) Reynolds. She was married to Jim Leonard Rush on August 10, 1962 in Durant. She was a retired secretary and attended the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Leonard Rush on January 30, 2002, her parents one brother, Gerald Reynolds and her stepfather, Jim Driscoll on August 24, 1983. She is survived by a host of friends and family. Pastor Kelvin Moseley will be officiating the services. Interment will follow to Little Cemetery under the direction of the Swearingen Funeral Home.
David Newman
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident David Burton Newman are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the First Assembly of God Church with casket closed. Newman died at his home in Seminole on May 14, 2003 at the age of 80. He was born in Virgil, Kansas on May 1, 1923 to Jim Newman and Gertrude Mae (Fuller) Newman. He moved to Seminole 24 years ago from Fox. He married Reta (Hardin) Jarvis on July 15, 1998 in Miami. He retired in 1985 from Sun Oil Company and sold D & B Chemical Company in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army as a Private 1st Class and served during World War II, receiving a Bronze Star. He was a member of Seminole First Assembly of God Church, the American Legion and the LD Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Delores (Chambers) Newman on March 28, 1987 and one step-son, John Jarvis. He is survived by his wife Reta of the home, two daughters, Sherry Sifford of Seminole and Debbie Mann of Gloster, Miss.; six grandchildren, Kevin Sifford, Kyle Sifford, Becky Hoffman, Angela Darden, Alison Shell and Tess Jarvis; 8 great grandchildren, Jake, Matt and Lacy Darden, James David and Robbie Dawn Shell, and Justin, Wilson and Brady Sifford; He is also survived by two brothers, Jack Newman of Mounds and James Newman of Weleetka and three sisters, Daphine Jett of Sapulpa, Sally Wasson of Tulsa and Joy Egert of Okmulgee. Rev. Lee Jones will be officiating the service. Casket will be closed at the church. Interment will follow to the Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of Swearing Funeral Home of Seminole. Casket bearers will be James Dooly, Tom Dooly, Jim Ed Newman, Richard Newman, Bob Ford, Bill Dulancy and Jim Hardin. Honorary bearers will be Kevin Sifford, Kyle Sifford, Justin Sifford, Wilson Sifford, Brady Sifford and Dan Hoffman. Newman was a very patriotic person who loved to ride horses and play with his grandchildren.
Jack Curry
Funeral services for former Seminole County resident, Jack Edwin Curry, are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Ada. He died May 14, 2003 at the age of 77 in Ada. He was born April 24, 1926, in Oilton, Creek County, Oklahoma to Glen Edwin Curry and Anna (Robinson) Curry. He married Dorothy Jane Greer on November 18, 1948. He attended school at Markham and graduated from Cromwell High School in 1944. He attended the First Freewill Baptist Church in Ada. He served in the U.S. Army from June 21, 1944 through June 1946, during World War II. He served in Germany and France with an Artillery Division. He attended East Central University after being released from the army in 1946. He eventually moved to Ada in 1996. He retired from Curry Hardware in Beggs. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home, three sons, Gary Curry and his wife Sandra, Lary Curry and Mark Curry and his wife Janet all of Ada; three brothers; David Curry of Wewoka, Gene Curry of Erick and Pat Curry of Cromwell; five grandchildren, Lisa Stone, Tina Stewart, Zach Curry, Megan Curry and Justin Curry all of Ada; and one great granddaughter, Janelle Stone. Pallbearers will be Don Bowers, Ernie Dunn, Stanley Sawyers, Bud Estes, Buddy Craig and Wayne Rodgers. Officiating the services will be Rev’s. Ken Wolf and Frank Young. Interment will follow to the Rosedale Cemetery under the direction of the Criswell Funeral home.
Charlie Chaffin
Graveside services for Seminole resident Charlie Floyd Chaffin are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Bearden Cemetery. Rev. Carl Whitfield will offciate. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Chaffin died Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at the Seminole Estates Nursing Home at the age of 72. He was born to Lee Chaffin and Maudie Chaffin on March 3, 1931 in Okemah. Chaffin was retired from the oilfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Charles Chaffin. Chaffin is survived by two sons, Richard Chaffin, Shawnee, and Nyland Chaffin, Seminole; two daughters, Sue Lewallen and Mollie Wyrick, both of Seminole; one brother, John Chaffin, Weleetka; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Aaron Dean White
Funeral services for former Seminole County resident, Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Aaron Dean White are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service located at 201 E. 45th Street in Shawnee. He died in a helicopter crash in Al Hillan, Iraq on May 19, 2003, at the age of 27. He was born on February 29, 1976, in Holdenville to Darrell and Karen White. He attended Sasakwa High School his freshman and sophomore years and attended Shawnee High School his junior and senior years, graduating in 1994. He was married to Michele Nicole Linn on April 10, 1998 in Shawnee. He served nine years in the U.S. Marines. He was a Staff Sergeant and a CH-46 helicopter Sea Knight Crew Chief. Survivors include his wife Michelle (Linn) White; daughter Brianna Nicole White; parents, Darrell and Karen White; sister, Sgt. Patricia LaBar; Grandmother, Reba Hale and a host of in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins. Rev. Wesley Martin will officiate the services. Interment is in Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka under the direction of Walker Funeral Services of Shawnee. A memorial fund for the family has been set up at the Bison Federal Credit Union in Shawnee.
Martha Naomi Filson
Services for longtime Seminole County resident, Martha Naomi Filson from Wewoka are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 22 at the Church of Christ in Wewoka. She died July 18.2003, at the age of 79 in the Unity Health Center, Shawnee. She was born Jan. 12, 1924 in Madill to Lena London Hart and James D. Hart, Sr. DDS, both preceding her in death. She was the youngest of 10 children and moved to Wewoka at the age of three. She attended Wewoka Schools, graduated in 1942 and attended East Central University. She was a Southwestern Bell Telephone operator and operated her own beauty shop, the Studio 9 from 1965-1980. She married Roy Joe Filson on June 25, 1948. She was a member of the Wewoka Church of Christ, active in Garden Clubs, church singing, wedding and funerals. She was a loving active wife, mother and homemaker. Survivors include two daughters, Sherry and Tommy Claybrook of Shawnee, and Debbie and David Shapiro of Palm Desert, Calif. one son, Mike and Cindy Filson of Ponca City; one sister, Evelyn Hart Burrow of Stillwater; four brothers, Dr. James Hart of Wewoka, Allwyn Hart of Searcy, Ark., George Hart of Knoxville, Tenn. and Harold 'Red’ Hart of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Kim and Mark Claybrook Collier, Kelly Claybrook, Shannon and Bill Girsson, Lori and Matt Morgan, Susan and Brad Keirn and Kyle and Clint Filson; great grandchildren, Amber, Katelyn and Courtney Grissom, Madeline and Catherine Claybrook Collier; and expected great grandson baby boy Keirn; as well as numerous other family and friends. Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Stacy A. Braman
Graveside services for former Seminole County resident, Stacy A. Braman are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, July 21 at Fairview Cemetery, Shawnee, with full military honors. He died July 5, 2003, at the age of 53 in Peter Borough, England and has just been returned to the United States. He was born April 11, 1950 in Klamath Falls, Ore. to Frank Stacy Braman and Rita Theresa (La Marche). He served in the USA Navy as petty officer first class and was working for the Navy AAFES in England when he died. He was a graduate of Seminole State College and also the former pastor for the Main Street Church of God from 1980-2000. He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Kasper of Tulsa, two sons, John Braman of Ft. Sill and Jeremy Braman of South Daytona, Fla.; two sisters, Kathy Pallin of Eugene Ore. and Margaret Chosther of Keizer, Ore.; and four grandchildren. Bro. H.K. Griffin will be officiating the service. Services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
A. D. Choate
Private services for Seminole County resident A.D. Choate of Sasakwa will be held in Wewoka under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka. He died at his home on July 17, 2002, at the age of 61. He was born Aug. 15, 1941 in Jones to Bonnie Choate and Ruby Mercer and has lived in Sasakwa since 1978. He was a heavy equipment operator and was employed by the Oklahoma Operating Engineer Union. He spent time in California and Oklahoma and traveled the country working the crop harvests. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by two sons, Tony Choate and Robert Choate, both of Sasakwa; one daughter, Annette Franks of Oklahoma City; one grandson; four brothers, Joe Choate of Vega, Texas, Gene Choate and Verna Choate, both of Sasakwa; and Bob Choate of Okemah; and one sister, Nancy George of Vega, Texas. The family requests no flowers, but make donations to the American Cancer Society.
Charles A. Mensay
A memorial service for Charles A. Mensay, father of Debra Kiser of Maud, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Flour Bluff-Padre Isles Funeral Home Chapel in Corpus Christi, Texas. He died on July 15, 2003, at the age of 69 in a Corpus Christi hospital. He was a retired accountant and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was also a member of the Gardendale Baptist Church. He is survived by one son, Leonard Mensay of Corpus Christi, Texas; one daughter, Debra Kiser of Maud; and five grandchildren.
James Ahtone Holata
Funeral services for Seminole County resident, James Ahtone Holata, Wewoka, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church. He passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, on July 15, 2003. He was born November 18, 1932, in Holdenville, to Wileya and Martha Holata. He attended Justice School and Culinary Art School at Oklahoma State A&M in 1962. He was in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. He was employed by Veterans Administration Hospital, in Oklahoma City, and retired in 1991, after 30 years. After returning to Wewoka in 1992, he was employed by the Wewoka Food Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wileya and Martha Holata, one daughter, Corly Holata, one grandson, two brothers, Whitney Holata, and Tony Holata. He is survived by five daughters, Janice Holata Bailey, Okmulgee, Lizanne Holata, Morris, Jamie Holata, Okmulgee, Barbra Lane, Henryetta, and Mary Holata, Okmulgee; one brother, Wayne Holata, Wewoka; one sister, Esther Holata, Seminole; two aunts; one uncle; 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. The body will be moved to Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church on Thursday, July 17, at 4 p.m. Wake services will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday evening, July 17, at the church. Pallbearers will be Ron Holata, Erwin Holata, Josh Holata, James Holata, Mark Holata, and Matt Holata. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Bailey, Jr., John Holata, Eugene Endres, Ethan Endres, Jerry Holata, and Alex Taylor. Rev. Houston Tiger and Rev. Steve Holata will be officiating the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Yvonne Shermaine Moore
Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident, Yvonne Shermaine Moore of Wewoka will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel. She was born August 3, 1937, to Elmer D. and Doris Baker Moore. She lived in Wewoka for 31 years and passed away July 15, 2003, in the Seminole Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Earl M. Moore. She is survived by an aunt, Mildred Moore, of Oklahoma City, an uncle, William Kay, of Ortonville, Michigan, sister-in-law Barbara Moore, many cousins who loved her and her many friends at Oakridge Home. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.
John Vincent Harjo
Funeral services for Seminole County resident, John Vincent Harjo are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cedar Creek Eufaula Baptist Church in Konawa. He died July 15, 2003, at the age of 39 in Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on March 6, 1964, in Wewoka, to Joseph and Rose Mae West Harjo. Both preceded him in death. He attended school in Hartshorne, and Okmulgee Tech from 1982-1984. He was a professional machinist and was a member of the Cedar Creek Eufaula Baptist Church in Konawa. Survivors include one sister, Anna Christine Harjo, Holdenville, and one brother, Leonard Wayne Harjo, Holdenville, seven nieces and nephews, two aunts, one great aunt, and a number of other relatives. Wake Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening, July 17, at the Stout-Phillips Chapel. The body will be taken to the Cedar Creek Eufaula Baptist Church, Konawa, Friday, July 18, at 4:00 p.m. Services will be officiated by Revs. Webster Fixico and Houston Tiger. Interment will follow at West Family Cemetery in Holdenville under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.
Hattie M. Johns
Services for longtime Seminole County resident, Hattie M. Johns is scheduled for Friday, July 18 at 12 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Seminole. She passed from this life on July 13, 2003, after 95 years. She along with her husband, Calvin R. Johns, Sr. (deceased) with whom she was married for over 70 years, dedicated their lives to the religious and educational success of the Seminole County. She may be viewed Thursday at Myers Mortuary in Wewoka and she will lie in state at Ebenezer Baptist Church Friday, beginning at 10 a.m. She is survived by her sons, Billy Johns of Seminole and Calvin (Barbara) Johns of Montgomery, Ala.; her grandchildren, Dennis, Janice (Steven), Charisse, Calvin III, Jacques, Mark, and Clark (Elna); her great grandchildren, Annette, Marquita, Jacques, Jr., Clark II and Ashley, her sister, Jeannette Miller; and nephews, Charles (Henrietta), Richard and Clark. The family requests no flowers, but make contributions to the United Negro College Fund. The family will match all donations given.
