Funeral services for former Seminole County resident, Roy Hasbell are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Sept 15, 2003, in Cooper Funeral Chapel in Tecumseh. Officiating the services will be Dale Toles and Quincy Hammons. Interment will be in the BrownCemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh. He died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at the age of 45 in Tecumseh. He was born Sept. 27, 1957, in Dallas, Texas to Albert and Dean (Peepers) Hasbell. He attended school at Wolf but has lived in Tecumseh for the past 15 years. He married Dorothy Davis Jan. 11, 1976. He worked at Oldcastle Glass and was a member of the General Assembly of the First Born. He was a game fowl breeder and participated in the sport. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Dean Hasbell and one sister, Wanda Jean Hasbell. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hasbell of the home, three sons, Roy Hasbell Jr. of Shawnee, Keith Hasbell of Oklahoma City and Brian Hasbell of the home; one sister, Kathy Upton of Tecumseh; three brothers, Herbert Hasbell of Pearson, Tommy Hasbell of Chandler and Bobby Hasbell of Seminole; five granddaughters; and a number of nieces, nephews, in-laws and many friends.
Douglas Yates
Graveside services for Douglas E. Yates, father of Seminole County resident Franky Yates, were scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at Resthaven Memorial Park. Rev. James Walter officiated the service. Services were under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home, Shawnee. Yates died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at the age of 66 at Unity Health Center North Campus in Shawnee. He was born April 6, 1937, in Bryan County to Charlie Yates and Julia (Ridens) Yates. He attended school in Silo. In May 1957, he married Wilma Cottingham. He worked as a masonry contractor in the Shawnee area for many years and had been a resident in Shawnee since 1973. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wilma; one daughter, Tahnee Yates; one son, Michael Yates and one brother, Benjamin Yates. He is survived by two sons, Ricky Yates of Shawnee and Franky Yates of Seminole; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother; J.C. Yates of Shawnee; and other family members and friends.
Helen Downey
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Helen Zenith Downey are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rusell Vicars officiating. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole. Downey died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at the age of 85 at Seminole Medical Center. She was born Dec. 29, 1917, in Roff to William Barnett Selfridge and Julia Donettie (Caton) Selfridge. She moved to Seminole in 1926 from Allen. She married Walter Maxwell Downey July 23, 1934 in Seminole. She was a homemaker and belonged to the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Forest Lemuel Selfridge; sisters Lavena Peters, Beulah Smith, Bertha Rediker, Nevada Lawson, Susan Ada Selfridge and Willie Donettie Selfridge; grandchild, Kirby Lee Little; great grandchildren, Billy Dean Burnett, Derryl Lockhart Jr. and Belinda Sue Burnett. She is survived by her spouse, Walter M. Downey of the home; four sons, Walter Dale Downey of Seminole, Barnett Eugene Downey of Texas, William Keith Downey of Crane, Texas and Kenneth Ray Downey of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Joyce Darlene Burnett of Seminole, Lawana Sue Holder of Oklahoma City and Sharon Kay Baker of New Braunfels, Texas; 27 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Casket bearers will be Robert Waldon, Martin Downey, Wesley Downey, Bill Downey, Mike Downey and Myron Downey. Ida Bourbonnais
Graveside services for former Seminole County resident, Ida Evelyn Bourbonnais, of Tecumseh, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec 17 at the Tecumseh Mission Cemetere under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud. Rev. Cal Hunter will officiate. Bourbonnais died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at the age of 72 at his home. She was born Aug. 28, 1932 in Blanchard to Clarence Hollis and Florence (Hughes) Hollis. She married Roy Bourbonnais of July 31, 1970 in Shawnee. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She is a former Maud resident and also lived in Bakersfield, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. She is survived by Roy Bourbonnais of the home, four sons, gene Thompson and Robin Geer, both of Range Park, Fla., Johnny Geer of California and Mark Geer of Lawton; two brothers, Carl Hollis of Bakersfield, Calif. and Clifford Hollis of Weiser, Id.; two sisters, Joan Gillham of Tecumseh and Frances McCormick of Bakersfield, Calif.; and ten grandchildren. Casketbearers will be Robin Geer, Mark Geer, Johnny Geer, Gene Thompson, Chris Geer and Kirk Geer.
Albert Branscum
Graveside services for longtime Seminole County resident, Albert Eugene Branscum currently of Holdenville, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16 at the Vamoosa Cemetery with Rev. Robert Bray officiating. Interment will also be at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Branscum died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at the age of 72 at Holdenville General Hospital, Holdenville. He was born July 18, 1930, in Konawa to W.A. “Bill” Branscum and Beatrice (Finch) Branscum. He owned and operated his own salvage yard in Konawa for many yars and was also a mechanic and oilfield truck driver in earlier years. Branscum was an Sp3 (T) in the U.S. Army and served as a mechanic in the 5th armored division during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church and of the American Legion Post 70, both in Konawa. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; one granddaughter; and one great grandson. He is survived by three sons, Randy Branscum of Holdenville, James Branscum of Burneyville and Andrew Branscum of Amarillo, Texas; one daughter, Kathy Miller of Holdenville; three brothers, Herman Branscum of Grass Valley, Calif., Bill Branscum of Pampa, Texas and Bob Branscum of Velma; two sisters, Athene Ironmonger of Pampa, Texas and Euda Weldon of Stevenville, Texas; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as casket bearers.
Funeral services for three-month old baby Aidan Ray Smith Robertson, son of Seminole residents Dustin Smith and Jessica R. Robertson, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Roger Brewer will officiate. Burial will follow at Wolf, and will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Roberston died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at Seminole Medical Center. He was born to Dustin Smith and Jessica R. Robertson on Aug. 23, 2003 at OKC. Robertson is survived by his parents; grandparents Felix Ray Robertson and Anna Marie M. Robertson, both of Seminole, and John and Peggy Smith, Earlsboro; great-grandparents, Hyatt E. Cayton and Patricia Cayton, Seminole; aunts and uncles, Megan M. Robertson, Okmulgee, Jody Robertson, Seminole, Dixie Smith, Michelle Smith, Tammy Smith, and Dalton Winkcompleck, all of Earlsboro.
Maynard Prather
A memorial service for former Seminole County resident, Maynard M. Prather is scheduled for Dec. 12 in Oceanside, Calif. There will also be a memorial service held at 10 a.m. Dec. 16 at the First Christian Church in Seminole. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, also in Seminole. Conducting the service will be Stephen Haney and nephew Don Lindsey. Prather died Dec. 3, 2003, at the age of 100 in Vista, Calif. He was born Jan. 21, 1903, in Merramac to W.H. and Elizabeth Prather. He married Ruth Ramsey on April 29, 1930, in Stillwater and moved to Seminole, where he was employed by his father in the oilfield, carpentry and construction work. The couple built their home at 611 W. College St. and lived there until they moved to Vista, Calif. in 1997 to be near their son. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Seminole since April 4, 1932. He was deacon emeritus, member of Beran Sunday School Class, Christian Men’s Fellowship and served on the church board and committees many years. Prather, together with his sons, Maynard and Leonard, began construction of the First Christian Church located at the corner of Timmons and Simpson Streets in Seminole, on June 3, 1932. The church was dedicated Nov. 6, 1932. He is survived by his son Garry Prather and his wife, Pat of Bonsall, Calif.; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one sister, Hallie Winkler of Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Ruth on Oct. 24, 1930; his parents, three sisters and one brother. Honorary pallbearers will be Leroy Poplin, Phillip Morris, Alvin Yoesel, Floyd Akin, C.M. Clark and Don Lester. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or your preference.
Kate Reville
A service for remembrance for former Seminole resident, Kate Armstrong Revile was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12 at the Bethany Church of Christ followed by a 1 p.m. service of remembrance officiated by Dr. Randal Spindle, Mickey Gilliland and Terry Jones at Mercer Adams Chapel in Bethany. Revile died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the age of 90. She was born in Dec. 1913 in Konawa to J.T. and Minnie Pearl Armstrong. At the age of 16, she opened her own beauty shop and began her career as a hairdresser after the family moved to Chickasha. She married Ervin Revile Feb. 5, 1939, and moved to Oklahoma City. Revile was preceded in death by her son, Jim in 1958, her husband, Ervin in 1962, brother, Joe Armstrong and sister, Nell Paddack. She is survived by daughters Yvonne of Bethany and JoAnne Toews of St Ann’s, Ontario; one son, Dr. William P. Reville; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Bill Guymon
A memorial services will be held at a later date in Seminole for longtime resident, Bill Guymon. The body will be cremated and burial will be at the Resthaven Cemetery in Seminole. Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of the Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole. Arrangements in Kansas will be under the direction of Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Guymon died at 5:10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at the age of 88 at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor due to failing health. He was born July 15, 1915, in Oliver Springs, Tenn. to Phil and Lula (Giles) Davis and was adopted by the Guymon family at the age of nine. He was raised in McAlester and after high school, he attended the University of Arkansas and graduated from Freed Hardeman Seminary at Henderson, Tenn. Guymon then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed stateside during World War II. He was a member of the Duncan Lions Club, while living in Duncan. After being discharged in 1945, he became a Church of Christ minister and pastored churches in Seminole, Henryetta, Healdton, Duncan, Sapulpa, Randlett, Texas, California, and Missouri. After retiring, he and his wife settled in Seminole. Guymon and Martha Akers Knowles were united in marriage on May 9, 1938 in Wellington, Kan. She survives him at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor. In addition to his wife, Martha, he is also survived by two sons, Lance Guymon of Parsons, Kan. and J. Carl Guymon of Broken Arrow; two daughters, Shirley Branson of Meade, Kan. and Sharon George of Hemet, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one sister, Virgie Lane of Iowa Park, Texas. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Carl Blain Stark
Memorial services for former Seminole County resident, Carl Blain Stark are scheduled for a later date at Fresno Memorial Gardens in Fresno, Calif. under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole. Stark died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at the age of 82 at Colonial Estates Nursing Home in Shawnee. He was born May 10, 1921 in Howe to John L. Stark and Frances (Young) Stark. He was married to Caroline Stark, who preceded him in death. Stark was in the landscaping business and served in World War II in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline in 1985; his parents; one brother, Porter Stark; and one son, Carl Edward Stark. He is survived by his grandchildren, Kevin Stark of Farmington, Ark. and April Phillips of Prairie Grove, Ark; two great grandchildren, Devon and Blaine Phillips of Prairie Grove, Ark. and his companion of the home, Ruth Driskill of Shawnee.
Virginia Miller
Memorial services for former Seminole resident, Virginia S. Mueller are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18 at the Welborne Methodist Church in Richmond, Va.. Interment is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday Dec. 19 at the Arlington National Cemetery next to her husband of 54 years, Col. Frank J. Mueller. Mueller died in Richmond, Va. on Monday, Dec. 8, 2003. She was born in 1924 in Tishomingo to Judge Elmer J. Sutherland and Cleo Green Sutherland and was raised in Seminole. She was a resident of Our Lady of Hope retirement community and a member of Welborne Methodist Church. The Mueller’s made their home in Biloxi, Miss., Fountainbleau, France, Montgomery, Ala, Washington, DC, Wiesbaden, Germany, WPAFB, Ohio, and then retired back to San Antonio, Texas. She was active in church, school activities, and volunteer work wherever the USAF took them and was a charter member of Jefferson Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas. Through PEO, she was an advocate and supporter of continuing education for women. For her determination and dignity, she was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be deeply missed. Mueller is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Mueller, Anne Mueller, and Michele Arnold and their spouses, Ken Brown and David Arnold. William Thomas 'Tommy' Parks
A service in honor of, and to celebrate the life of, William Thomas "Tommy" Parks is scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12, at the Seminole Church of Christ, 4200 N. SH 99. Parks died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at his home in Seminole at the age of 58. He was born in Seminole on Nov. 24, 1945, to Bill Mark Parks and Thelma Elaine McElroy. Parks graduated from Seminole High School in 1963. He attended Oklahoma State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry in 1968. He married Judy Ann Thrasher at the Church of Christ in Stillwater on Feb. 10, 1967. Parks attended the U. S. Naval Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Newport, R.I., and graduated as a Commissioned Ensign in May 1969. After serving at the U.S. Naval Base in Key West, Fla., where he attained the rank of Lieutenant JG, Parks returned to Oklahoma State University and received a Master's Degree in Business Administration in May 1972. Returning to Seminole in 1972, Parks joined his father's business, Bill Parks Tank Company, and later Parkinsol Oil Company, where he was serving as president at the time of his death. He attended the Church of Christ in Seminole his entire life. Preceding him in death were his mother, Thelma Parks, and one brother, Carol Gene Parks. Parks is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home; two sons, Derek Parks and Tyler Parks, both of Seminole; one daughter-in-law, Amber Parks of Seminole; two grandsons, Nathan Parks and Gavin Parks of Seminole; his father and stepmother, Bill and Bonnie Lee Parks of Seminole; one sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Tommy Mills of Seminole; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Debi and Terry Casey of Seminole; two nieces and their husbands, Piper and Cameron John, who live in Fernan Dina Beach, Fla., with their daughters, and Misty and Dr. Jeff Floyd and their children, of Edmond; and two extended family members, Natasha Dockery and Meirna McHugh. Pallbearers will include Bo Clymer, Bill Hall, Dawson Helvey, Ralph Dungan, Ron Grabin and James Phillips. Harold Morris
Funeral services for former Seminole resident, Harold Wayne Morris, now of Duncan, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15 at the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel in Duncan with Rev. Randy Scraper officiating assisted by Dr. Jack Robbins. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home. Morris died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at the age of 89 at Duncan Care Center in Duncan. He was born July 22, 1914, in Stonewall to Samuel D and Mabel Nelson Morris. He married Vivian Matthews on Oct. 4, 1936. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Morris was co-owner of Western Auto and later a sales clerk at Hopeman Equipment Company. He belonged to the Audubon Club, Lions Club, Board of Stewards and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Vivian of the home; two daughters, Barbara Ply and husband John of Flagstaff, Ariz. and Virginia Stanley of Amhurst, N.H.; one brother, Charles Morris of Lenexa, Kan.; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pall bearers will be Don Blevins, Ken Roberts, Tommy Downey, Roger McConnell and Rod Kovar. Gladys Calvert
Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident, Gladys Calvert will be Friday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m.. at Gleaners Holiness Church in Wewoka. Internment will be at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Larry Chesser officiating under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka. Calvert passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at the age of 81 at Seminole Medical Center. She was born on February 10, 1922, to Floyd and Zora Smith Johnson. She attended school at Limestone and Greenleaf Schools. She married Alfred David Calvert on May 23, 1943, in Wewoka. She was a member of the Gleaners Holiness Church in Wewoka where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Calvert was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred David Calvert; her parents, Floyd and Zora Johnson; two children, Phyllis Vance and Tommy Calvert; one grandson, Larry Calvert; two brothers, Jay Johnson and Ed Johnson; and two sisters Betty Milsap and Wanda Bishop. She is survived by her children, Shirley Threet , Marsha Sawyer, Lloyd Scroggins, David Calvert, and Jimmy Calvert all of Wewoka; two brothers, Johnny Johnson of Guymon, and Guy Johnson of Yukon; 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Pallbearers will be Tommy Sawyer , Johnny Harris, Michael Pierce, Larry Scroggins, Jimbo Calvert and Gary Calvert. Franklin Shaw
Funeral services for Seminole resident, Franklin Lee Shah-Shaw are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Galilee Baptist Temple of Praise and Deliverance. Revs. Larry T. Crawford and John Berry will officiate. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole. Shaw died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at the age of 51 at Seminole Medical Center. He was born July 2, 1952, in Oklahoma City to Seymore Shaw Sr. and Geraldine (Wright). He was the Administrative Counselor Coordinator for Sherman Oaks Hospital in Sherman Oaks, Calif. He moved here from Sherman Oaks, Calif in April 2003. Shaw was a member of the Galilee Baptist Temple of Praise and Deliverance in Seminole. He was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine and Seymore Shaw Sr.; grandparents, Ervins and Mattie Salys; and one brother, Earnest Shaw. He is survived by five brothers, James Nugent Jr. of Dennison, Texas, Micheal Nugent Sr. of Del City, Seymore Shaw Jr. and Frederick Shaw Sr., both of Shawnee, AC Andre L. Shaw of Seminole; seven sisters, Beverly Depp, Jeraldine L Crawford, Mattie Hartfield and Marilyn Mitchell, all of Seminole, Gwendolyn Powell of Shawnee, Shirley Wilson of Midwest City, Mable Davis of Atlanta, Ga.
