Agatha Christian

Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Agatha C. (Colvin) Christian are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at rest Haven memorial Gardens with Rev. Carl Whitfield to officiating. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Christian, 80, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005 at Quail Ridge Living Center in west Siloam Springs. She was born Sept. 18, 1925 in Skeedy, Okla. to Charlie H. and Addie (Vance) Colvin. She married Douglas Charles Christian on March 11, 1947 in Arkansas City, Kan. and worked for Newton Walls Department Store for over 28 years, retiring as manager of the Seminole Walls Store. Christian was a member of First Baptist Church Seminole. Her parents; her husband; one son, Charles Christian and two brothers, Charles Colvin Jr. and Clayton Colvin preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Lloyd of Seminole and Lori Billups of Colcord; one sister, Eva Dunn of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Edmond Joshua Jr.

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident, Edmond "Wimpy" Joshua Jr. were held today at 2 p.m. at Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church. Interment followed at Larney Family Cemetery in Seminole under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Joshua, 69, of Oklahoma City, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005 at his residence. He was born April 2, 1936 in Holdenville to Dorothy "Tochee" Tiger and Edmond Joshua Sr. He and Mary Ann Larney were married in November 1974 and they made their home in Wetumka, but later moved to Oklahoma City. Joshua was baptized at Many Springs Indian Baptist church in Holdenville, by Rev. A.J. Bruner, and was a member of Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church. He attended school in Parkview Elementary in Holdenville, Spaulding, Murrow Orphanage in Muskogee and Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kan. Joshua was a self-taught Indian artist and a wood and clay sculptor. He won many awards and honors for these including a Heritage Award at the Five Civilized Tribes in Muskogee. His parent; four brothers, Leroy Joshua Sr., Andrew Davis, Larry Burden and Bobby Joshua; one sister, Shirley Joshua and a stepson, Newman Harjo Jr. preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife of the home; seven children, Bruce Harjo, Toney Harjo, Jay Harjo, Lawanda Carrillo and Pauletta Ortiz, all of Oklahoma City, Steve Harjo of Shawnee and Ursula Shannon of Dallas, Texas; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition, his stepmother, Sarah Joshua of Tulsa; four brothers, Martin Joshua of Oklahoma City, Travis Burden of Bartlesville, Randall Joshua of Tulsa and George Island of Wewoka; seven sisters, Mary Martin of Little Rock, Ark., Susie Joshua, Annie Joshua, Mary Joshua, Benita Blackburn, Jeretta Joshua, all of Tulsa, Betty Howell of Konawa also survive him. Pallbearers for the services were Eugene Harjo, Arthur Davis, Cheparney Harjo, Leo Moppin, L.D. Cross and Wilburn Hobia. Honorary bearers were Jimmy Taylor, Jimmy Joe Harjo, George Postaok and Lloyd Cross.

Shelby Barber Jr.

Graveside services for Shelby Leon Barber, Jr. are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Tiger Family Cemetery, located one mile east of Seminole on SH 9. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Barber died Tuesday Dec. 13, 2005 in Wichita Falls, Texas at the age of 57. He was born on Dec. 8, 1948 to Selby Leon Barber, Sr. and Vera Eirleen White in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a tech engineer for Solid State Exchange and Repair Company. He was a member of the Grace Temple Church in Wichita Falls, Texas. Barber married Wanda C. Tiger on Feb.24, 1968 in Wichita Falls, Texas and they were married 18 years. His parents and one sister, Donna Kathleen Barber-Pinson preceded him in death. Surviving is his ex-wife, Wanda C. Tiger-Barber of Maud; one daughter, Kimberly Sharp of Ada; two sons, Shelby L. Barber III and Nathan Barber, both of Seminole; two brothers, Bobby Eugene Barber and Moses Ray Barber of Denton, Texas and 12 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Nathan Barber, Shelby Barber III, Bobby Barber, Ray Barber, Vernon Pinson Jr., and Mitchell Barber.

Albert R. Kelley

Services for former Seminole resident Albert R. Kelley are pending in Arizona at this time. Kelley, 83, Glendale, Ariz., died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2995. He was born in Tulsa on Mar. 18, 1922 to John and Minta Kelley. He moved with his family to Seminole at an early age, where he attended grade school and graduated from Seminole High School. Kelley spent his adult life in the investment and stockbrokerage business. He resided in California for many years before moving to Arizona in 1995. His parents and four brothers, Dr. George Davis, John, Patrick and Paul preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife, Mary Alice Kelley of Peoria, Ariz.; son, Larry of San Diego, Calif.; brother, David of Seminole and sisters, Irene Lockhart of Tulsa, Alice Tregea of California and Lela Bennett of Ariz.

Maedean Carolina

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Maedean (Bruner) Carolina are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Wewoka Church of Christ. The arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Carolina, 73, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005 at Wewoka Nursing Home. She was born May 27, 1932 in Wewoka to Charley and Purina (Colbert) Bruner. She attended Nobletown School and later worked for Konawa Nursing Home and Barry's Café as a cook. She was a member of Wewoka Church of Christ. She married Ural "Sonny" Carolina in Shawnee and the couple had nine children. Her parents; son, Terry Bruner; daughter, Delmarie Gordon; brothers and sisters, Vernon Bruner, Alice Byrd, Stella Bruner, Betty Bruner, Bobby Gene Bruner, McArthur Bruner, Joby Bruner and Linda Sue Bruner preceded her in death. Surviving is her husband of the home; sons, Everett Bruner of California, Joe Don Gordon of Wewoka, Rickey Burton of Oklahoma City, Tony Bruner of Georgia and Paul Bruner of California and two daughters, Dondie Gordon of Virginia and Gloria Porter of Georgia. In addition, siblings, Victorina Simmons, David Bruner, Aslene Bruner, Corene Bruner, Willis Bruner, Ola Faye Bruner, Dorothy Bruner, Rose Bruner, Rene Alford, Bobby Bruner, Ellen Roberts and Jean Johnson; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren survive her.

Emma Boulton

A private family service was held Wednesday for former longtime Konawa resident Emma Marie Boulton. Burial took place at Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home. Boulton, 94, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005 at Unity Health Center in Shawnee. She was born Sept. 12, 1912 in Heavener to Agra and Coulde Thrift. She married Walter B. Boulton on April 12, 1927 in Heavener and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Faith. Her parents, husband, one daughter, Pauline Adams, two sons, Charles Boulton and Walter Boulton and one granddaughter, Teresa Stewart preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Margie Robison of Konawa and Lorena Farris of Pauls Valley; one brother, Aurie Thrift of Red Oak; one sister, Helen Thrift of Red Oak; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great grandchildren.

Ruby Lee Ellis Lovelady

Ruby Lee Ellis Lovelady was born on Oct. 6, 1906 in Oklahoma Indian Territory. She passed away in her home at the Methodist Manor Complex on Dec. 12, 2005, she was 99. Ruby's mother died when she was a baby so her father, Ernest Ashmore, and her grandmother reared her. She married Elmer Ellis in 1926 and had three daughters; Francis Lee, Doris Lou, and Margaret Gay. Elmer died in 1943. Ruby worked at various businesses in Maud in order to put her three daughters through high school and college. She married a wonderful gentleman, Bob Lovelady on July 1, 1950 in Terral, Texas. Ruby and Bob were married fifty years. They loved their Seminole United Methodist Church where they were very active in their Sunday school class, choir, and members of board. Ruby held almost every office in the United Methodist Women's Group, from President to Group Leader. The couple was also very active in politics. Ruby held many offices in the local and county Democratic Party and was elected to the State Democrat Women's Hall of Fame. She was honored to be appointed to the Seminole Junior College Board of Regents. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob Lovelady on March 1, 2001, two daughters, Fran Ziegler and Doris Jackson and one brother, Connie Ashmore. She is survived by her sister, Leatrice Newkham; her daughter, Gay Ellis Downing; sons-in-law, Dennis Downing and Earl Ziegler; her stepdaughter, Kay Curry and her husband Wiley. Six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive her. Ruby has had devoted care givers whom the family greatly appreciates: Mary Alice Smith, Lorene Brown, Sharon Andrews, Janet O'Brien, Jan Miller, Carol Nus, and Faye Ready. Funeral Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Seminole at 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005 with Rev. Phil Erwin and Rev. Gary Wilburn officiating. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the shut-in Ministry of Will Rogers United Methodist Church, 1138 S. Yale, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74112 Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Dan Earl Howell

Graveside services for longtime Wolf-Seminole resident Dan Earl Howell are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Maple Grove Cemetery with military honors. The arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Howell, 83, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2005 at Southwest Medical Center in Lawton. He was born Feb. 21, 1922 in Sherman, Texas to Carl and Mattie Francis (Smidcht) Howell. He married Ozie Mae Yerby over 55 years ago. He was a self employed painter and member of the Church of Christ in Seminole. Dan served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a private first class in the 334th Infantry, 84th Division and received a Bronze Star. Surviving is his stepson, Charles and wife Joann Posey of Seminole; three sisters, Jewel Powell of Dallas, Texas, Jessie Allbright and Wanda Gilley, both of Oklahoma City and one brother, Delbert Howell of California. In addition, three grandchildren, Brad Posey of Wolf, Phillip and wife Peggy of Eufaula and Laura Long and husband David of Seminole; eight great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren also survive him.

Debra Greever

Memorial services for former Seminole resident Debra Nichols Greever are scheduled for Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Bartlesville, with Father Lee Stephens to officiate. Greever, 54, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005 at James Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville. She was born Dec. 18, 1951 in Oklahoma City to V.F. Nichols and Jewell E. Nichols. She was a graduate of Seminole High School and her father owned a lumberyard in Seminole for many years during her youth. Greever attended college in Ada before teaching at Rose State College in the 1990's. She worked as a registered health information administrator and had been employed in the health field for 30 years. She liked to garden, with special attention given to flowers, which she then created floral arrangements. Her parents, brother, Ed Nichols and sister, Sandra Nichols McCord preceded her in death. Surviving is one brother, Ron Nichols of Burlingame, Kan.

Lillie Belle Darden

Burial services for Wewoka native Lillie Belle (Coleman) Darden, 81, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Baptist Church of Wewoka with the Rev. L.R. Drinkwater officiating. Darden died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005. She was born Dec. 9, 1923, in Wewoka to James and Lillie Coleman. She graduated from the Wewoka school system in 1941 and later became a schoolteacher at Wewoka. In 1945, she married Lawrence C. Darden Sr. who preceded her in death, as did her second husband. Darden went on to earn degrees in the areas of business, music and teaching. She taught all levels of education throughout her career including collegiate course work at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. In 1956, she became the first African American stenographer at the Department of Human Services in Oklahoma City. She also worked for the Black Dispatch newspaper of Oklahoma City and for several years was a member of the North Central Accreditation Association of Kansas City, Mo. Survivors include her four children; one brother, George Coleman; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services are under the arrangements of Myers Funeral Home.

Neal E. Gray

Funeral services for Shawnee resident Neal E. Gray were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Craig officiating. Interment followed services at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home. Neal E. Gray, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 82, on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005 at his home. He was born April 11, 1923 near Shawnee to Charles and Ida (Cooper) Gray. Gray owned and operated his own auto repair shop in Shawnee, Neal Gray Garage, from 1952 to 1992. He married Winnifred McClain June 28, 1943 and they have been married for 62 years. His proud distinguished service to his country began with World War II, serving in the 13th TABN, 24th Division, Southwest Pacific, Korea 116 Combat Engineers 19th BN and at Ft. Sill. At Ft. Sill he was one of the last trainees in the Pack Artillery where horses and mules were used. He was a member and deacon of Temple Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Neal loved god, his family and his country. His parents and one brother, Franklin Gray, preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife, Winnifred of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Linda Gray of Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and George Combs of Seminole and eight grandchildren, Sherri Ragsdale and friend Natasha Schweitzer of Norman, Terri Gray of Norman, Kelli Gray McCullar and husband Benjamin of Shawnee, Shelli Gray Pritchard and husband Clayton of Shawnee, Suzanne Gray Pritchard and husband Gregg of Stroud, Phillip Combs and wife Kristy of Prague, Michelle Combs Glenn and husband Sam of Shawnee and Chris Combs and wife Cari of Shawnee. In addition, surviving are 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, June Schmidlkofer of Earlsboro; three sisters-in-law, Leta Gray of Shawnee, Evelyn Atkinson of Midwest City and Mary Lopez and friend Carl Robbin of Shawnee; one brother-in-law, John H. McClain of Shawnee and a number of nieces and nephews. The family suggests that those wishing to make contributions may do so to the Gidions.

Debra Nichols Greever

Zackary Johnson

Funeral services for Zackary Johnson of Shawnee are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at First Indian Baptist Church of Shawnee. A wake service is scheduled for Sunday evening beginning at 9 p.m. at First Indian Baptist Church for family and friends. Johnson died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005 at home. He was born Aug. 30, 2005 at Unity Health Center in Shawnee to Joseph Johnson and Sara Wise. His grandmothers, Mandy Wise and Terry Johnson preceded him in death. Surviving are his parents; two brothers, Isaiah Wise and James Johnson of Shawnee; grandparents, Marsha Bear, Curtis Johnson and Gerald Wise, all of Shawnee and great-grandparents, Lewis Wise of Seminole and Rachel Bear of Shawnee. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Loyal Eugene Mantooth

A Memorial Service for Seminole native Loyal Eugene Mantooth is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, 2005 at the First Assembly of God Church in Wewoka. Loyal Eugene Mantooth, 67, of Holdenville, went to be with his Savior on Dec. 8, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 27, 1938 in Seminole to Virgil Finis Mantooth and Ida Alice Chasteen. Loyal proudly served in the United States Navy about the time of the Korean Conflict. He worked at many jobs throughout his life, including mechanic, truck and bus driver, carpenter, janitor and in the oil field. In recent years he owned and operated Mantooth Septic Tank Pumping in the Holdenville area and was also a janitor at Justice Elementary in Wewoka. He was a "Mister Fix-it" and there wasn't much he couldn't figure out. Loyal and his wife, Marcella, remodeled many homes through the years; their own and for family and friends. His handiwork can be seen all around Oklahoma and Montana. He enjoyed fishing and meeting his friends at the coffee shop and was fondly nicknamed "Walking Eagle" by those who knew him best. Loyal met and married the love of his life, Marcella, in Lewistown, Mont. in 1966. They moved back to Oklahoma in 1980, but continued to make annual visits to Montana. Just as his name indicates, he was extremely loyal to his friends and family. He was loved and will be missed by his family and many good friends he made in his lifetime. Loyal rededicated his life to Christ a few months ago and said it was the happiest time of his life. He spent his remaining months serving others through his carpentry skills, and fishing – recently landing the largest bass he'd ever caught. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Marcella; his children, Sandee and O.B. Boyd of Holdenville, Kelly and Carrie Mantooth, Lewistown, Mont., Vicki and Randy Hansen, and Cathy Mantooth, Poteau, Okla., Phillip Mantooth and Robbie and Loyal Mantooth, Jr, Spiro, Okla.; grandchildren; Kristen, Kaycee and Kara Mantooth of Lewistown, Mont., Patty and Kevin Nolen and Daniella Casahuaman and Cali of Holdenville, Josh, Ellen, Jessica and Regina of Poteau, Carrie of Boise, Idaho, Ashley of Perry, Okla., Tosha and Tiffany of Spiro, Okla. and six great-grandchildren. In addition his brothers, Richard and Ellen Mantooth, Moore, Harold and Donna Mantooth of Danville, Calif.; sisters, Hazel and Vernon Spears, Cromwell, Helen and Tom Crawford of Muskogee; sister-in-law, Vada Mantooth of Wewoka and many nieces and nephews survive him. His father and mother and brothers, Charles, Virgil, Jr, and Roy preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, Loyal asked that memorials be made to the First Assembly of God Church, 1301 S. Mekusukey, Wewoka, OK 74884.
