Funeral service for longtime Seminole resident Alfred Frank Curb will be held, Monday, Jan. 23, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole. Interment with military honors provided by the Seminole Nation Honor Guard and the United States Marines Military Honors Team, at 2 p.m. at Resthaven Memory Gardens, 500 SW 104th Street in Oklahoma City. Officiating will be Forrest Weast, Nick Hamilton, Cecil Spoonemore and Herschel Davis. Alfred Frank Curb, 80 year old, longtime Seminole resident went to be with his Lord on Jan. 19, 2006 at his home in Seminole. He was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on Oct. 8, 1925. Alfred made his profession of faith in Jesus at the age of eight. His family had a strong Baptist heritage with two of his uncles preaching for over 100 years of combined service. During Curb's senior year at Luther High School in 1944, he entered the United States Marines. He received his diploma in 1946 after his World War II service. He attended Oklahoma State University for two years and Spartan School of Aeronautics for one year. During World War II in 1944, Curb was assigned to the 1st Marine Division, 11th Regiment, 2nd Battalion, D Battery. He will be remembered for his action at Okinawa. This battle lasted for 82 days beginning on April 1, 1945. After the surrender of Japan, he served in China during the occupation. Curb received his honorable discharge with the rank of Corporal on May 6, 1946. After the service, he was a V.F.W. member for several years. Al married Betty Jo (McClure) Curb on May 25, 1951 in Midwest City, Okla. Together they have lived in Seminole for the past 41 years moving there from Del City, Okla. In 1976, Curb retired as a Property Disposal Specialist (Inspector) from Tinker Air Force Base after 30 years of civil service. Al was a Strothers community Scoutmaster for both Boy and Cub Scouts. Curb was ordained as a deacon at Twin Oak Baptist Church in Seminole, on July 18, 1965. He taught Sunday school classes. He served as the Church treasurer for many years. The Curbs also held church fellowships and prayer meetings in their home. Al was involved with the South Canadian Baptist Association Brotherhood work and served as a driver and sponsor for several Falls Creek Baptist Assemblies near Davis, Okla. Curb was active in the Strothers Athletic Booster Club and in later years supported Varnum basketball (except when playing Strother). Al and Betty Jo Curb were honored by having their names placed on the Strother "Hall of Fame" plaque. The Curbs invited varsity basketball teams, coaches and cheerleaders to several annual New Year's Eve parties. He enjoyed fishing, camping, family genealogy and loved to take pictures and videos. Curb contributed to several historical museums in Lincoln, Love and Oklahoma Counties. In addition to supporting Twin Oak Baptist Church, he also supported mission work. Curb hoped, upon finding out about his terminal cancer last September, to live long enough to celebrate his 80th birthday. He was pleased that it was attended by 87 special people. Mr. Curb is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Jo Curb of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell L. and Jeanette Curb of Elk City and Ronald F. and Lisa Curb of Newcastle; three sisters, Aileen Rosell of Ogden, Utah, Nina Lascurain of Lubbock, Texas and Reba Cotton of Moore; three grandchildren, Tiffany Inman of Seminole, Nicholas Curb of Elk City, and Tara Curb of Newcastle and one great-granddaughter, Madisyn Inman of Seminole. Preceding him in death were his parents, P.W. "Pink" and Editha Curb; five brothers, Floyd, Aaron, Joe, Ersa and Earl Curb and three sisters, Beata Curb, Birdie Lou Dickerson and Elissa Reifsteck. Casket Bearers and honorary casket bearers will be; (nephews, grand-nephews, close friends and men of Twin Oak Baptist Church), Forrest Dickerson, Tom Curb, Phillip Curb, Doug Curb, Dale Bell, Don Bell, Dan Carpenter, Robert Shelby, Larry McClure, Gary Curb, Fred Talley, Larry Cotton, Tommie Talley, Perry Cotton, Vic Underwood, Gary Montgomery, Jim Davis, Herschel Davis, Jim Barnes, Junior Evans, John Lovelady, Tommie Rammage, Larry Roper, Cecil Spoonemore, Steven Quinalty, Joe North, Wendell Payne and Eddie Carter and deacons, Steven Quinalty, Junior Evans, John Lovelady, Tommie Rammage and Larry Roper. The casket will be open until service time and will not be opened after. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Willie Nipper
Funeral services for Earlsboro resident Willie Nipper are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Fairview Baptist Church. Rev. Bythel Friend will officiate with Bro. Tim Emmons to assist. Interment is to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Shawnee. Nipper died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006 in Ada Hospital at the age of 84. He was born Aug. 17, 1921 in Prague to Clarence A. and Zella (Licklider) Nipper. On July 8, 1939 he married Rosa Belcher and was a dairy farmer and member of Fairview Baptist Church for 57 years. His parents, wife, twin granddaughters Billie Sue and Terrie Lou Bennett, his brother Howard Nipper and his sister Wilma Montegomery preceded him in death. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Zeta and Ron Carty, Wynonia and Dean Bennett and Zelda and Gwin Prather, all of Earlsboro; seven grandchildren, Cody Bennett, Lee Ann Bourland, Bobby Bennett, Rose Fulton, Mamie Shannon, Angie Price and Alan Prather; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. In addition, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Melba and Robert Buoy and Mabel and J.H. Uldrich, and sister-in-law Lorene Nipper, all of Prague; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Johnson, Mary Strong and Dorothey Sanders and one brother-in-law Harvey Belcher survive him.
Dorothy Jean Clough
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Dorothy Jean Clough are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday at Seminole Church of Christ. Chris Stinnett is to officiate and interment is to follow service at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Clough, 79, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006 at Seminole Estates Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 2, 1926 in Sapulpa to Thomas and Dollil (Stanton) Deshazo. She married Fred Clough on July 17, 1942 in Sapulpa and was one of the secretaries for Moran Enterprises. She was a Seminole resident for over 43 years. Her parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Surviving is her husband of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Jewell Clough of Garland, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Fredda and J.R. Pack of Seminole; one brother, George Deshazo of Tulsa; one sister, Cecil Borden of Tulsa; three grandchildren, John Whalon, Don Pack and Dale Pack; six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Casket bearers for the services will be John Whalon, Don Pack, Dale Pack and Derick Pack.Honorary bearer is to be Melvin Moran.
James Middleton
Funeral services for former Wewoka resident James Earl Middleton are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with Ruby Nell York to officiate. Interment is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Oklahoma City. Middleton, of Shawnee, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006 at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born Sept. 30, 1947 in Tahlequah to Arthor Oscar Middleton Sr. and Martha (Faughn) Middleton. He attended Wewoka Schools and was a truck driver for Pam Transport. Middleton enjoyed trucking, hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. His parents, two brothers: Jimmy David Middleton and Clarence Eugene Middleton, and one sister Jewel Groseclose preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife, Carolyn Middleton of Earlsboro; one son, Manuel Krueger of Earlsboro; two daughters, Renea McCune of Shawnee and Aletha Middleton of Hartshorne; five grandchildren; one brother, Arthor Oscar Middleton Jr. of Poteau and one sister, Vera Lee Johnson of Poteau.
Constance Young
Services for Konawa native Constance "Connie" Young were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman with Chaplain Bill Tomlin officiating. Interment followed at the Noble IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home. Young, 83, of Norman died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006 in Norman. She was born July 4, 1922, in Konawa, to Ivor (Ward) and Greer Hughes. She married Dock C. Young Dec. 24, 1940, in Konawa. During World War II, she helped build airplanes for Douglas Aircraft. Her family moved from Seminole to Norman in 1947 and has lived at their current house since 1950. Young was a Southwestern Bell telephone operator until she retired in 1977. Her parents and brother Ed Lee Hughes preceded her in death. Surviving is her husband Dock of the home; daughters Linda M. Hubbard of Norman and Farrie L. Graham of Edmond; sister Evelyn Taylor of Seminole; brother John Henry Hughes of Lexington; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Bearers will be J.D. Hubbard and Blake, Ryan and Carol Graham.
Troy Ray Ware
Funeral services for Seminole native Troy Ray Ware are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the North Fork Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Bruce Sanders. Burial is to follow service at Oakwood Cemetery in Mounds, Okla. under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Checotah. Visitation will be today from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. and tomorrow from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Ware, 61, of the Eufaula area, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006 at his home in Runaway Bay Estates. Troy was born March 17, 1924 at Seminole, the son of Rubert and Lena (Lane) Ware. He was united in marriage to Pat Banks on April 23, 1945. He was a member of the North Fork Baptist Church where he enjoyed working with the builders as they repaired and built churches in surrounding areas. Troy always had a good story to tell and kept friends and family laughing. When in his 70's he built his retirement home on Lake Eufaula with the help of his wife Pat. Troy was a good man, loved and adored by many and will be missed. He could always bring a smile to your face and a laugh to your heart. His parents; five brothers, Clyde, Roger, George, Ira J. and Lloyd; one sister, Florence Smith; nephews, Jim and Johnny Ware and Jerry and Ronnie Smith, all of Seminole and two nieces, Kerrie and Angele Jackson preceded him in death. Troy is survived by his wife Pat of the home; two daugh- ters, Patricia Hall of Flippin, Ark. and Lenda Breeding of Shawnee; four grandsons, Troy and Roy Hall and dad Lowell, Matthew and his wife Elise of Moore, Timothy of Norman and dad Dan Breeding and one sister, Sharon Jackson and husband Gerald of Konawa. In addition, three nephews, Gene Smith of Bella Vista, Ark., Michael Jackson of Miami, Okla. and Steve Ware of Oklahoma City; five nieces, Peggy Bowen of Burbank, Okla., Susan Shipley of Ada, Rita Scott of Eufaula, Debbie Chesser of Holdenville and Sandy Plum of Bristow and two loving sisters-in-law, Grace Brunelle of Red River, N.M. and Nadja Cole of Calif. survive him. Casket bearers will be his grandsons and their dads, with honorary casket bearers to be Norman Wagoner, Red Collins, Chas Young and Raymond Foutch. The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the Free Clinic at North Fork Baptist Church.
William Cecil Pippin
Funeral services for former Seminole resident William Cecil Pippin are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the Cumming (Ga.) Baptist Church. Rev. Mark Harrison officiating. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Friday from 9 a.m. till time of service. Ingram Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. William Cecil Pippin, 86, of Cumming, Georgia died Monday, February 13, 2006. He was a United States Army veteran having served in the Pacific theater during World War II. Mr. Pippin graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1954 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and was a member of the Oklahoma State Board of Professional Engineers. He retired in 1982 after service for the U. S. Air Force at Tinker AFB as a civilian engineer. Ordained a Baptist deacon in Oklahoma, Mr. Pippin was an active member of the Cumming Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Ommie of Cumming, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Rick Forrester of Big Canoe, Ga.; two grandchildren, Sherri Courtney of Massachusetts and Angela Jones of Big Canoe, Ga. and five great grandchildren, Mary Ann and Michelle Courtney, and Abigail, Maggie, and Matthew Jones. Three brothers, Lee and Ralph Pippin of Seminole and Lloyd Pippin of Amarillo, Texas and one sister, Bernice Lindsay of Marlow, Okla., also survive him. Anna Stoll
A memorial celebration for Earlsboro resident Anna M. Stoll is scheduled for 12 p.m. Saturday at the home of Glen and Anna Moore. Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Stoll, 71, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006 at Seminole Medical Center. She was born Nov. 30, 1934 in Newark, N.J. to Martin and Anna (Figuero) Savage. On Sept. 20, 1952 in New- ark, N.J. she married Richard Stoll, Sr. and moved to Seminole County 32 years ago from East Brunswick, N.J. She was a homemaker and a member of the Congregational Methodist Church. One sister, Thelma Bunn, preceded her in death. Surviving is her husband, Richard Stoll, Sr. of the home; one son, Richard Stoll, Jr. of Germany; two daughters, Dorothyann Sims of Seminole and Anna Moore of Earlsboro; one sister, Cora Melnyk of New Jersey and six grandchildren.
Hulett Edgmon
Memorial services will be held for Hulett Edgmon at First Baptist Church in Seminole on Friday, Feb. 17 at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Tommy Clark will officiate. Services will be under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Stigler. Hulett was 86 years old when he died Monday evening at 11:54 p.m. at Unity North Medical Center in Shawnee after suffering a heart attack in the home. He was born in Hazel, Okla., Oct. 7, 1919 to "B" and Mary Edgmon. He had brief stays in Texas, Konawa and Wewoka, before making his home in Seminole. It was in Wewoka while working for Sinclair Services that Hulett wrote up his own draft paper for the Army. Before leaving for a tour of duty in Europe during World War II, he married Mary Jo Guthrie in December 1940. After returning from the Army, Hulett and Mary Jo located in Seminole where they have resided happily married for the past 65 years. Hulett was professionally known in the community for his over 40 years of service in the banking industry at First State Bank of Seminole and at First National Bank in Prague. Community contributions were associated with his involvement in the Seminole Jaycees, Seminole Chamber of Commerce and the Seminole Park Board. He loved all sports, but was best known for his passion for the game of golf. He won a number of local and statewide tournaments and honors and in his later years served on the State Seniors Board of Directors. He was a fierce competitor on the golf course and was most proud of his ability to consistently "shoot his age" over the past 15 years and the fact that he shared the "family" record for the number of holes-in-one (four) with grandson Chris. As an active member of First Baptist Church of Seminole, he loved his involvement with the many wonderful members of the "church family." Hulett Edgmon will be missed as an industry professional, community supporter, sports enthusiast, but most of all as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and "special" friend to many. He is survived by the "love of his life," Mary Jo, of the home; son and daughter, Hugh and Susan Edgmon, Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandson Chris Edgmon, Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Christy and her husband Chad Martin of Frisco, Texas; "the boys," great-grandson Cade and Campbell; and one nephew and his wife, J.E. and Mary Irby of Houston, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to Falls Creek Children's Camp in care of First Baptist, 420 Reid Street, Seminole.
Eleanor Martin
Funeral services for Maud resident Eleanor (McCulloch) "Sister" Martin are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God Church in Bowlegs. Rev. Wesley Martin, Rev. Tim Martin and John Martin will officiate. Visitation will be at the Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud. Interment is to follow at Cummings Cemetery under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home. "Sister" Martin 85, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at Shawnee Unity North Hospital. She was born Oct. 3, 1920 in Greeley, Colo. to Luther Vince McCulloch and Pearl (Rice) McCulloch. On Sept. 17, 1935 she married Lois G. Martin in Hazel, Okla. and was a housewife, mother, adult Bible teacher and pastor's wife. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Maud, and has been a Pottawatomie County resident for 78 years having moved her at the age of seven from Denver, Colo. Her parents; husband, L.G. Martin (Nov. 26, 2005); one son, Daniel Leon Martin; one grandchild, Yvonnie Kathleen Martin; one brother, James Alvin "Jack" McCulloch and one sister, Ada Marie (McCulloch) Pierce preceded her in death. She is survived by six sons and daughters-in-law, John Paul and Neta Martin of Greenville, Texas, James David Martin of Talihina, L.G. Jr. and Julia Martin of Maud, Lawrence Wesley and Joyce Martin of Sasakwa, Lemuel Timothy and Linda Martin of Maud and Luther Carlus Martin of Maud; four daughters and son-in-law, Frieda Lee Martin of Maud, Billie Sue Curtis of Seminole, Rebecca Lou Duncan of Sulphur and Cindy Kay and Ronnie Robertson of Seminole; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Rita Sanders
Funeral service for Seminole resident Rita Carol Sanders are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doyle Long and Rev. Forest Weast to officiate. Interment is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Sanders, 63, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006 in Seminole. She was born Aug. 31, 1942 in Cape Town, South Africa to Dirk William Christian Dixon and Maria Catherine (Williamson) Dixon. She married David Carl Sanders on Sept. 3, 1983 in Muskogee and was a supervisor at Gossard Underwear Factory in South Africa for SA Gossard pty Ltd. Sanders moved to Seminole 18 years ago from Ft. Gibson, Okla. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Seminole. Five sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Surviving is her husband, David Carl sanders of Seminole; two brothers, Colin Dixon and Edwin Dixon, both of South Africa and two sisters, Cassandra Pastor and Norma Smith, both of South Africa. Casket bearers for the services will be Grant Martin, Zach Zedd, Richard Ortley, Gilbert Reese, Dennis Adams and Johnny Grandstaff. Honorary bearers will be Sonny Miller, Brodrick "Ouma's Boy" Martin and Jazmine Martin.
Joseph Thompson
Joseph Roger Thompson, age 63, of Paige, Texas died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006. He was born Feb. 17, 1942 in Prague, Okla. to Alfred Randolph Thompson and Mildred (Quary) Thompson. Most of his life was spent working in the oilfields. For relaxation, he loved fishing. His family recalls how they would sit for the longest and not have a nibble, but Joseph would walk up, cast out, and bring in a fish. A celebration of life was held on Jan. 3, 2006 at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop, Texas. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Mildred, stepfather Curtis Morrison and brother Sidney Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Donna Thompson of Paige, Texas; daughters, Tammy Thompson, Candy Ware and Heather Thompson, all of Bastrop, Texas, Ladawn Vasquez of Shawnee, Okla. and Jovonna Hill of Pleasant Hope, Mo.; sisters, Mary Green of Meeker, Okla., Darlene Clark of Checotah, Okla. and Delilah Coker of Midwest City, Okla.; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Joseph will be laid to rest with his parents at Little Cemetery at 1 p.m. on the 17th day of February 2006.
