Funeral services for former Seminole County resident, Clara Mildred "Ashby" Mixon are scheduled for today at Hillcrest Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, Calif. Mixon died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 in Fresno, Calif. at the age of 90. She was born Sept. 24, 1915 to Walter and Eva (Johnson) Ashby. She attended school at Wolf Wing and Wolf School. She met Brown Mixon of Central School – Punkin Center, east of Maud and they married. The couple lived in the Wolf area for some time before moving to California to find work. They lived in Shafter, Tehachapi, Wasco and Bakersfield. For nearly 69 years they were inseparable. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Her parents; husband (Sept. 10, 2001); one son, Larry Mixon; two brothers, Ellis Ashby and Roy Ashby and two sisters, Ina Ashby and Lena Buchanan. Surviving is one daughter, Dorothy Medlock of Fresno, Calif.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Wilma Wylie of Midwest City and Betty Buchanan of Seminole and one brother, Homer Ashby of Wichita, Kan.
Lois Virginia Lee
Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident Lois Virginia "Jenny" Lee are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Tabernacle in Del City. Rev. Paul Sharp, Rev. Randy Shouland and Rev. Roy Robertson are to officiate the services. Interment is to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Lee, 60 died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City following a lengthy illness. She was born July 6, 1945 in Seminole to John Wesley Quinalty and Dorothy Patricia (Lewis) Quinalty. She graduated from Seminole High School and worked at Baptist Hospital until 1996. She attended First Assembly of God Church at Bowlegs and was a member of Calvary Tabernacle at Del City. Her father, brother, David John W. Quinalty and sister, Elizabeth Quinalty preceded her in death. Surviving is her mother, Dorothy Quinalty of Seminole; two daughters, Dina Machele Lee of Oklahoma City and Tina Rachele Opp-Jeffery of Austin, Texas; three sons, Jim Lee of Booneville, Miss., Eugene Lee of Guam and Randall Lee of Ralston; nine grandsons and one granddaughter. In addition, four sisters, Patricia Stephens of Kalamazoo, Mich., Ada Mae Ferguson, Vera Roberts of Seminole and Roberta Morgan of Harrah; three brothers, Stan Quinalty, Steve Quinalty and Mark Quinalty of Seminole and former husband, Ray Lee survive her. In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests that donations be made to the Lupus Foundation.
Wandalene Phillips
Funeral services for Wandalene Phillips, 68, of Seminole will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, at the Bowlegs Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Roy Robertson officiating. Phillips died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, in Seminole. She had lived in Seminole all her life. She was born Sept. 4, 1937, in Seminole to William Harvey Bruce and Selma Beatrice (Bishop) Bruce. Phillips was a cook in several cafes, including Pat's Caf‚ and Granny Fern's. She was active in church as a Sunday school teacher and song leader and was a current member of Bowlegs Assembly of God Church. Phillips was preceded in death by three brothers and one great-grandchild. Survivors include two sons, Justin Lowell Phillips of Oklahoma City and Ricky Glenn Phillips of Cromwell; one brother, Larry Dean Bruce of Seminole; two sisters, Carolyn Joy Boatman of Moore and Barbara Pauline Martin of Seminole; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Interment will follow funeral services at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Wandalene Phillips
Funeral services for Wan- dalene Phillips, 68, of Seminole will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, at Bowlegs Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Roy Robertson officiating. Phillips died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, in Seminole. She was born Sept. 4, 1937, in Seminole to Clarence Ed- ward and Nettie Viola (Hargis) McCluskey. Verna married Lester Lee Bottoms on Dec. 25, 1948, in Seminole. She was a retired registered nurse and had worked at various hospitals. She was an avid genealogist and coin collector and enjoyed 0playing the piano in her younger years. Verna was a member of the World War II Submarine Veterans' Wives organization and a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Verna is survived by her husband, the Rev. Lester Lee Bottoms of the home; her sons, Dr. Keith Lee Bottoms and wife, Lynne, of Broken Arrow, Carl S. Bottoms and wife, Carol, of Ponca City, Glen E. bottoms and wife, Aurora, of The Colony, Texas, and Leslee Bottoms and wife, Cindy, of Wagoner; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Vivian Kirkpatrick of Marysville, Calif., Barbara Resneder of Oklahoma City and Karen Smith of Tulsa; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Interment will follow funeral services at 3 p.m. in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole. Funeral arrangements and services are under the direction of Hersman-Nichols Funeral Home of Wagoner.
Fay L. Crosby
Funeral services for Earlsboro resident Fay L. (Hughes) Crosby were held today at 2 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Dwayne Dennis officiating. Interment followed at little Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. Crosby, 71 passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 in Shawnee. She was born in Ray City, Okla. Nov. 14, 1934 to Roy Jackson and Ruby Nora (Pollard) Hughes. She has lived most of her life in Pottawatomie County (Ray City, Maud, Shawnee and many years in Earlsboro). Fay was a graduate of Maud High School. On Aug. 29, 1958 she married Joe M. Crosby at the Church of Christ in Shawnee. He preceded her n death on Sept. 4, 1998. She was a homemaker as well as a worker at Tinker Air Force Base, the Sylvania Electric Plant, the United Methodist Day Care in Seminole and as an LPN at Mission Hill. Fay was a member of the Earlsboro Booster Club, the Pott. County Genealogy Club, Earlsboro Clown Troop and was a 4-H Club Leader in Earlsboro. Her husband; a son, Joey Crosby in 1972; her parents and two brothers, Joe and ray Hughes preceded her in death. Surviving is her sister, Nora Cole of Drumright; brother, Homer Hughes of Shreveport, La.; four nephews, Joe Hughes and Jerry Hughes, both of Houston, Texas, Roy Cole of Oklahoma City and John Hughes of Shreveport, La.; two nieces, Sharon Davenport of Houston, Texas and Tanja Kennedy of Maine; special friends, Don and Karen Meshew and Joe and Amber Curtis, all of Shawnee and many friends and extended family.
Zona Chill
Funeral services for Zona M. Chill of Sapulpa were held today at 2 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Chapel with Rev. Sandra and Terrell Copeland officiating. Interment followed at Green Hill memorial Gardens under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Sapulpa. Chill, 93 died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006 at Rainbow Nursing Home in Bristow. She was born Aug. 7, 1912 in Oklahoma. She was a longtime Sapulpa resident and a retired waitress and seamstress. Her husband, Al. Chill and daughters, Hazel Hood and LaJune Bruton preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons, Cecil Hood of Seminole and J.D. Hood of California; brother, Earl Morgan of California and four grandchildren.
William Fleming
Funeral services for Semi- nole resident William "Neal" Fleming are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shirley Hill officiating. Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Fleming, 78 died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006 in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born Dec. 2, 1927 in Drumright to Therald and Nellie Fleming. He attended Vo-tech and received his diesel mechanic certification and worked for International Pontiac and John Cassidy Equipment, both in Stroud. He retired from Robert Gordon Equipment as a diesel mechanic and was a rancher on the side. From 1946 – 1951 Fleming served in the United States Army. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will be providing military honors for the funeral. He married Dorothy Triece in Kansas on April 6, 1952 and two children were born of the union. His parents, one sister and three brothers preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife of the home; son William "Bill" Fleming of Clinton; daughter Lorie Reid of Seminole; sister Billie of Blackwell; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Laura Lawson
Funeral services for lifelong Wewoka resident Laura Elizabeth Lawson are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church. Rev. John May will be officiating and interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Lawson, 88 died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006 at Seminole Estate Nursing Home. She was born June 6, 1917 in Dow to Lorince Burton and Darlene (Long) Burton. She attended Wewoka Schools and went on to college. Later she worked for Lillian Russell Garment Factory in Wewoka as an office manager. Lawson was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher. Her memberships also included Eastern Star and the Country Club Golf Group. She married Carl L. Lawson Feb. 21, 1957 and was married for 46 years. The couple traveled with the Good Sam Club following his retirement. Her parents and husband preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons, Larry Lawson of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Steven Lawson of Shawnee; one daughter, Sandra Fields of Yukon; four grandsons, one granddaughter; four great-grandchildren and sister, DeeDee Steidly of McAlester.
Leroy Goad
A memorial service is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Rev. Doyle Long, officiating. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole. Leroy Goad, 73 year old, longtime Seminole resident passed from this life on Jan. 31, 2006 at Unity North Hospital in Shawnee. He was born Oct. 18, 1932 in Seminole to Roy Goad and Pauline Marie (Henderson) Goad. Both parents preceded him in death. Leroy graduated from Seminole High School in 1951 before entering the United States Air Force in 1952 until 1956 and for many years after his enlistment he was active with the reserves in Ardmore and Tinker. Leroy was a barber for over 30 years at "Leroy's Barbershop" on Main Street in Seminole, he also retired from Seminole post office in 1976 after 17 years of service. Goad was a third generation Mason in the Seminole Masonic Lodge and was a volunteer fireman in Seminole with 20 years of service. Mr. Goad is survived by his wife Barbara Jean (Keough) Bassford Goad, who he married Oct. 6, 1994 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Also surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherrie Willis of St. Petersburg, Fla., Tammy and Johnny Sylsberry of Seminole and Amy and Rodney Anderson of Seminole; four stepdaughters and sons-in-laws, Debbie Lee and Tim Redfern, Dana Lynn Bassford and Trina Marie and Mike Welk, all of Silverthorn, Colo. and Tawney Jean Bassford of Seminole. Five grandchildren also survive him, Lacy Collins, Jarrod Willis, Britne Pharaoh, Jordyn Johnson and Makyla Anderson; nine step-grandchildren, Dakota Anderson, Maranda Anderson, Skylar Anderson, Jonathan Redfern, Joseph Welk, Stephanie Welk, Mike Sylsberry, Amber Bowling and Justin Sylsberry, one great-grandchild, Dayton Collins and three step-great-grandchildren, Madyson Sylsberry and twins Zoë and Emma Redfern. Mr. Goad is also survived by, his former wife and the mother of his children, Barbara McMahan of Seminole.
Eudell C. ' Dell' Good
Funeral Services for Dell C. Good, 81, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Stout-Phillips Chapel in Wewoka, with Rev. Dewayne Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Good died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006 at Unity North, Shawnee. He was born Sept. 15, 1924 in LeFlore, Okla. to Roy and Fannie (Thompson) Good. He attended Wewoka Schools before entering the United States Army serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He married Jean Poole on Sept. 15, 1946 in Wewoka; she survives him of their home in Seminole. Good retired May 1, 1987 from Sun Oil in Seminole after 35 years of service. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved the outdoors with the hobbies of fishing, camping, and working in his yard. Back in his younger days, he and Jean loved riding motorcycles and boating with their family. Other survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Regina Good of Oklahoma City, Mike and Mona Good of Seminole, Mark Good of Wewoka; daughter Vicki Newman of Seminole; sister Wanda Sheriff of Amarillo, Texas; four grandchildren, April Johnson of Seminole, Sommer Wood, of Tecumseh, Adam and Brittany Good of Seminole and four great-grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death. Pallbearers will be Adam Good, Brandon Johnson, Russell Wood, Destin Johnson, Rodney Cooper and Wayne Chambers. Honorary pallbearers include Bob Newman Sr., L.V. Stephens, Bob Kennedy, Bob Shackelford, Cecil Moore, and Jim Duncan.
Alta Jewel Fite
Funeral services for Alta Jewel Fite, 78, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday in the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Ardmore with Rev. Donny Custar and Rev. Don Clark to officiate. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home, Ardmore. The family will be receiving friends at Harvey-Douglas Funeral from 6 – 7 p.m. Thursday. Daughter of the late Elmer and Tissie Fennel Bernard, she was born Feb. 6, 1927 and went to be with her Lord Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006. A 1946 graduate of Holdenville High School, she married Wayne Fite June 3, 1948 in Holdenville. In the late 1940's she worked in Holdenville at Stanford's Drug Store and J.C. Penney. A member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, she was very active in Women's Missionary work as long as her health permitted. She loved to sing, pray and witness about her faith. Since 1959 she supported her husband in his pastoral ministry. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she enjoyed such simple pleasures as watching the Walton's on TV or going to Braum's for ice cream. Her great love was her church; she felt great compassion for the poor and quietly contributed to their support. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Wayne Fite of the home; son Allen Fite of Ardmore; daughter and son-in-law, Traeda and Butch Caldwell of Duncan; six grandchildren, Todd Eperley, Michelle Ed- wards, Chasity Lamb, Weston Fite, Kim Rice and Stacy Doughty; four great-grandchildren, Luke Edwards, Kya lamb, Justin and Ethan Doughty and three nieces, Joan Woolley, Margie Milliman and Betty Hogan. A son, Stephen Bradley Fite in 1996 and two sisters, Myrtle Roberts and Alice Colville preceded her in death. Serving as bearers will be Jim Michael, Kenneth French, Mark Cunningham, Todd Eperley, Weston Fite and Chad Edwards. Honorary bearers include Matt Lamb, Butch Caldwell, Paul Doughty, Gerald Rice and her Lois Sunday school class at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Martha Swann
A memorial reception of family and friends has been scheduled for longtime Seminole resident Martha Lovelady Barnes Swann in her home from 4 – 6 p.m. Saturday. Swann, 70 died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006 at a Shawnee hospital. She was born March 12, 1935 in Shawnee. She was a volunteer with special needs children, owned and operated Clayton's Shoe Stores in Dallas, Texas and was a member of the Sweet Adelines in Oklahoma City for many years. Swann was a homemaker and caregiver in Seminole for several years until she fell ill. Her parents, sister Gloria Toop and stepdaughter Susan Swann preceded her in death. Surviving is her husband, Harold Lloyd Swann of the home; two daughters, Linda Barnes Hartt and Karen Barnes Mattson of San Antonio, Texas; stepson Brad Swann of Mesquite, Texas; one brother, John Lovelady of Seminole; three sisters, Billy Gribble of Perry, Ohio, Betty Barrick of Phoenix, Ariz. and Mary Climer of Little City and seven grandchildren. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers and food, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Society, 3160 W. Briton Rd., Suite E, Oklahoma City, OK 73120.
James Louis Whitt
Funeral Services for long time Seminole resident James "Jim" Louis Whitt are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church of Seminole. Presiding over the services are Rev. Gary Wilburn and Rev. David Karges. Interment is to follow at Stroud Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Jim died at the age of 81 while under the care of Norman Regional Hospital. He was born Oct. 4, 1924 in Stroud to Rosco B. Whitt and Drusilla Maye (Worthington) Whitt. Both parents preceded him in death, one infant son also preceded him. Jim married Thelma Mae Russell on Dec. 25, 1943. They have been married for 62 years, moving to Seminole in 1946 where they have been residents for 60 years. Mr. Whitt Graduated from Lawton High School and joined the Air Force where he made sergeant as a gunner on a B24. Jim was past president of the Band Club and Lions Club in Seminole. He is also a former member of the Seminole Bass Club and Fellowship Class of the First United Methodist Church. Jim also enjoyed his volunteer work at the Jasmine Moran Children's Museum. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Whitt of the home; one daughter, Jeanne (Whitt) Terry and son Tommy Whitt and his wife Tena all of Seminole. Also surviving are grandsons, Ryan Terry, Eric and T.J. Whitt all of Seminole and granddaughter, Saundra (Whitt) Thompson of Jennings, Okla. and nine great-grandchildren. Casket Bearers will be, Eric Whitt, Ryan Terry, T.J. Whitt, John Thompson, Shane Richardson and Caleb Whitt. Honorary Casket Bearers will be, Leon Freeman, Claude Cornelison, Buster Wilcox, Herb Gunter, Bob Webster and Bob Lennard. Visitation with the family is scheduled for Sunday 12 – 8 p.m. and until service time on Monday.
