Jackie Epperley

Graveside memorial services for Sasakwa native Jackie Alleen Epperley are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Ms. Jackie Epperley passed away quietly on Friday, March 17, 2006 at Muskogee Region Medical Center. She was 80 years old having been born in Sasakwa on May 30, 1925. She retired from George Meyer State Farm Insurance in Muskogee and from Northwest Floriday Mental Health Center in Panama City, Fla., being employed as an executive secretary. Ms. Epperley was more than a daughter, sister, sister-in-law or aunt; she was the loving union within a family for three generations. Her mother and father, Iva Epperley Sharpe and Did Epperley; brother, Don Epperley; sisters, Mae Laverne Lawson and Otha Epperley and brother-in-law, Arthur Lawson preceded her in death. Ms. Epperley is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Wanda Whiteker and Dean Whiteker of Muskogee; niece, Kevin (Whiteker) Mus- grave of Middleburg, Fla.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Don Epperley of Tulsa; nephews, Steve Epperley and Joe Don Epperley of Tulsa; nieces, Linda Carter of Muskogee and Terry Jeffords of San Antonio, Texas and Dale McGill of Panama City, Fla. She is also survived by Bobby and Tracie Goodspeed, Madison Hayes, Cody and Adrain Goodspeed, Jimmy, Deanna, Colton and Harli Bartholet, all of Muskogee; Chad, Nicol, Cade and Colin Simecek, all of Kingswood, Texas and Paul Garrison of Middlesburg, Fla.

Howard Cook

Funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident Howard Cook are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Jim Shaffer to officiate with Rev. Tommy Azlin to assist. Howard P. Cook, age 93, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2006 at a local nursing home. He was born Aug. 25, 1912 in Lawton to John Elmer Cook and Sarah Pearl (Woods) Cook. Mr. Cook attended Woods School and was a member of New Life Church Pentecostal Holiness Church. He and Jimmie Ella Autry were married Sept. 4, 1934 in Wewoka. He was self-employed as Cook Trucking Company and after retiring from the trucking industry in 1976, he raised cattle. His parents, wife Jimmie Ella Cook (October 1997), son George Allen Cook (December 2004), one grandchild, Randy Streater (June 1989), brothers, Emery, Henry and Fred Cook, sisters, Maude Mae Bunch, Leura Merrell, Elmeta Bently and Marjorie Kiker preceded him in death. Surviving is son and daughter-in-law, Don Preston Cook and wife Jerretta of Wewoka; daughter, Trevia Sue Streater and husband Darrell of Wewoka; daughter-in-law, Betty Cook of Wewoka and grandchildren, Clifford Cook, Greg Cook, Rhonda Brakhimer, Vickita Slovacek, Tambra Cook, Mike Streater and Dewayne Streater.

Lois M. Gilleland

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Lois M. (Crowder) Gilleland are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Lindsey Chapel Baptist Church, located north of Eufaula. Tim Turner will officiate the service with interment at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole at 2:30 p.m. under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole. Gilleland passed from this life into the glory land of Heaven Sunday, March 26, 2006 at the age of 73 years. She was born Nov. 4, 1932 in Watonga to Leonard and Fern Crowder. Lois was a graduate of Seminole High School in 1949. She lived for lengthy periods of time in Seminole, Oklahoma City and on Lake Eufaula. Lois was a devoted believer of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who developed lasting relations and friendship with all she met. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who was admired by all for her kindness. Her parents, two brothers, Sam H. Crowder and Eugene Crowder and one great-grandson, Logan Gilleland preceded her in death. Surviving is her husband, Don Gilleland of Checotah; son and daughter-in-law, Don E. and Marlene Gilleland of Tuttle; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Steve McGinley of Yukon and Laurie and Mike Nevins of Tulsa; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Hugh Crowder and Dale and Jeanie Crowder and two sisters-in-law, Vivian Crowder and Lenora Crowder. Additional survivors include, grandchildren: Jeff Gilleland of Blanchard, Jamie Boren of Blanchard, Kelly Means, Brain Creach, Brett Creach and Sean McGinley of Yukon, and Lindsey Nevins of Overland Park, Kan. And Kyle Nevins of Tulsa; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Gilleland, Garrett and Jessi Boren, Payton and Parker Means, Carson Creach and Ashlyn DePriest. Casket bearers for the services will be Jeff Gilleland, Brain Creach, Brett Creach, Kyle Nevins, Sean McGinley, John Means and Scott Brown.

Alma Flannery

Funeral services for former Seminole native and longtime resident Alma Flannery are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Cline will be officiating with Darrell Brown assisting. Interment is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole. Mrs. Flannery, 82, died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at McAlester Regional Health Center. She was born June 4, 1923 in Seminole to Forest Ed Brown and Forest (Hodges) Brown. She married Charley R. Flannery on July 7, 1942 in Poteau and he preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 2005. Mrs. Flannery was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Seminole. In the early years of her life she owned a clothing store in Midland, Texas for 27 years. She loved people and was a Sunday school teacher and a youth director in Seminole and Midland, Texas. Mrs. Flannery was a choir member at Trinity Baptist and for the past three years she has taught a Sunday Bible class at Heritage Hills Nursing Home in McAlester, where she was a resident. Her parents, husband, two sisters, Betty Sandlin and Mary Jo Clayton, and one brother, Steve Brown preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her grandparents, Dunk and Mary Brown and Grant and Amede Hodges. Surviving is one son, Charley Flannery of Seminole; one daughter, Sernanda Anderson of Arpelar, Okla.; five grandchildren, Mike Flannery, Micki Sanders, William Anderson, Serna Anderson and Dana Thompson; three step-grandchildren, Jacque Orndorf, Laura Page and Leslie Prigge and nine great-grandchildren. Casket bearers for the services will be Dale Brown, Douglas Brown, Dwayne Brown, Keith Sandlin, Raymond Sandlin and Floyd Oliver Sandlin. Honorary bearers will be Jirl McGinnis, Terry Nix and the Trinity Baptist Church "Naome" Sunday school class.

Zepher Massey

Graveside services for former Wewoka resident Zepher Massey were held today at 1 p.m. at Westwood Cemetery with Pastor Wayne Harper officiating. Services were under the direction of Myers Mortuary. Massey, 87, of Fresno, Calif. died Tuesday, March 21, 2006 in Oklahoma City. She was born May 5, 1918 in Idabel, Okla. to Leon and Annie Richardson Gray. Her family moved to Wewoka after her birth and she attended school in Wewoka. She moved to California as a young adult and worked for a rug manufacturer. Massey was a member of Greater Faith Baptist Church of Fresno, Calif. Her husband, parents, four brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Surviving is son, Eddie Massey of Fresno, Calif.; one sister, Jessie Gray of Wewoka; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

Rexell Hart

Funeral services for Wewoka native Rexell Hart were held Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Bear Valley Christian Church in Lakewood, Colo. Burial followed at the Fort Logan Memorial Cemetery, and was under the direction of the Veteran's Administration with Chaplain Jeffrey Matthews. Hart was born June 21, 1933 in Wewoka to Leon (Jabo) Hart and Cora Lee Malone. His parents; one brother, Brice A. Hart; and one sister, Kathamay preceded him in death. Surviving are two brothers, Douglas Hart of Wewoka, and Orville Hart of San Diego, Calif.

Esther Williams

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident Esther Lee Rodden-Williams are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel, Konawa. Interment is to follow services at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa. Rodden-Williams, 95, died Monday, March 27, 2006 at her Konawa residence. She was born Sept. 23, 1910 in Friendship, Okla. to John Robert Owen and Ida Mae (Reed) Robertson. On Nov. 26, 1924 she married Arville Rodden in Konawa and he preceded her in death in 1973. She married Sidney Williams in 1980 in Byng and he preceded her in death in 1983. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ in Sasakwa. Her parents; husbands; one daughter, Jean Jackman and two grandsons, Rodney Biege and Michael Zweiacher preceded her in death. Surviving are three daughters, Madge Anders of Konawa, Alice Watters of Sasakwa and Deborah Hays of Skiatook; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and two great-great grandchildren.

Harold Lafayette Badgett

Harold Lafayette Badgett, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif. after a long illness. Hal was born in Etowah County, Ala. and was raised in Seminole County, Okla. where he lived for 20 years. During World War II, Hal served in the United States Army as Chief of Detail, A Battery, 2B Field Artillery Battalion, 40th Division in the Southwest Pacific. After the war, Hal attended Oklahoma University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in 1949. After graduation, he worked in radio advertising in Oklahoma City before moving to California in 1952. Hal worked 35 ½ years for the San Mateo Times as a National Advertising Manager and was a member of the San Francisco Advertising Club. He enjoyed golf, gardening, and traveling with his family. Hal is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Betty; beloved children, Susan Michaels and her husband Lewis of Union City, Margaret Lynne (Stacie) Badgett of Nevada City and William H.C. Badgett of San Jose; devoted brothers, R.B. Badgett and his wife Lela of Seminole and Donald Badgett and his wife June of Del City. At Hal’s request, no services will be held and interment will be private. Donations may be made in his name to the VA Medical Center, Hospice Unit, 3801 Miranda Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94304.

Maleese M. Black

Funeral services for native of Little, Maleese M. Black, 92, were undisclosed at time of press. Black died at her home in Sedona, Ariz. on Saturday, March 18, 2006. She was born Sept. 29, 1913, in Little, as one of four children to Dr. and Mrs. William Rainey Black. She was a professor and head of the theater department at Pepperdine University until she retired to Sedona, Ariz. with her friend Jane Welton. Black resided in Sedona for more than 36 years before she died. In the early 1980's, Black became a member of AZ Native Plant Society, out of recognition of using indigenous plants for conservation, restoration, and general landscaping. She translated that interest into organizing workshops sponsored by Keep Sedona Beautiful for newcomers to the Sedona area. Black is survived by a sister, Betty Woodruff.

Autumn Lindsey

Terra Doss and Frankie Lindsey, both of Seminole would like to announce the birth of their daughter, Autumn Rain Lindsey. She was born Friday, April 7, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. at Valley View Hospital in Ada weighing 7 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 19 inches in length. To welcome her are siblings Shyanne Lindsey, Eric Smith, Austin Siler, Ashlee Doss, Alex Doss. In addition, are the grandparents, Darla Harris, Thomas Lindsey and Blanca Cagle; and great-grandparents, Viola Briensfield of Wewoka and Mary Lou Harris of Seminole.

Hazel Ruth Olsen

Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident Hazel "Ruth" Olsen are scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Wewoka with Rev. Michael Vallandingham officiating. Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Olsen passed away at her Wewoka home on Friday, April 7, 2006 at the age of 78. She was born Aug. 15, 1927 to Charlie and Lula Cargill Lyon in Cully, Okla. She attended school in Cully until the fourth grade, then moved to Sasakwa and graduated from Sasakwa High School in 1945. Olsen went to work at the Seminole County Clerk's office in 1946 and worked for five years before working at the county assessor's office for 12 years. She went to work for Redland Headstart and earned an associate's degree from Seminole State College and attended East Central University. Olsen then returned to work at the clerk's office, where she retired in 1989. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wewoka. On June 6, 1949 she married Oley Olesen and he preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 2002. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Lenita Olsen of Wewoka and Tim and Regina Olsen of Seminole; four grandchildren, Stephanie Jackson and husband Antonie, Kelley Olsen, Lauren Olsen and Matthew Olsen; two great- grandchildren, Alex Jackson and Aaron Jackson and one sister, Bobbie Upton of Seminole. Pallbearers will be David Lyon, Larry Upton, Keith Upton, Mike Upton, Mickey Upton, Ken Harrod, Greg Upton, Bryan Lyon, Mike Morgan and Cullen Harod. Honorary bearers will be Durwood Tucker, Earnest Moore, John Sircy, Billy Brown, Barry Tucker, Mike Ervin, Dwight Smith and Ronnie Fields.

Virgil E. Quinalty

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Virgil E. Quinalty are set for 2 p.m. April 12, 2006, at the Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole. Rev. Bill Fent is set to officiate. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Peters-Stumpff Funeral Home. Quinalty died April 8, 2006, at the age of 88, at Southcrest Hospital in Tulsa. He was born Feb. 10, 1918, in Booneville, Ark., to Dess Mundundee and Ethel Mae (Littrell) Quinalty. He married Mary Ida Bowen on Jan. 16, 1940, in Seminole. Quinalty worked for Yuba Heat for more than 20 years. He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God church in Tulsa, where he served as a deacon for about 20 years. He was involved in prison ministry. Quinalty was preceded in death by his wife, on Dec. 6, 1989; his parents; three brothers, Lewey, Daniel, and John; and one sister, Juanita. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy LeMaster, of Turley, and Janice Galloway of Lonetree, Colo.; two sons, Virgil Quinalty Jr., Tulsa, and Larry E. Quinalty of Wichita, Kan.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Jim Quinalty, Bill Quinalty, and Floyd Quinalty, all of Seminole. Musical selections for the funeral service will include "He'll Do it Again," "Amazing Grace," and "I'll Fly Away." Casket bearers are listed as Roberty Quinalty, Ronnie Quinalty, Doug Evans and Michael Galloway.

Sheila Gayle Gore

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Sheila Gayle Gore have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Wayne Sloan officiating. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole. Sheila Gayle Gore passed away, Monday, April 10, 2006 at the age of 43. She was born on Oct. 16, 1962 in Wewoka to Howard Lonzo and Laura Mae (Brown) Yancey. She married Buddy Gore on July 3, 1989 in Seminole. She is survived by her husband of the home; father, Howard Lonzo Yancey of Seminole; three sons, Michael Richard Gore and David Leon Gore, both of Seminole and Frank Jackson Gore, Jr. of the home and daughter and son-in-law, Krystal Marie and Jamal Khalil of Seminole. In addition she has eight sisters and brothers-in-law surviving her, Betty Lozer of Crane, Texas, Margaret McNeill, Shirley and Kenny Castle and Judy and Al Roberts, all of Seminole, Lillie and Darryl Davidson of Alamo, Texas, Dorothy and Leon Marlow of Seminole, Patricia and John Whitham of Seminole and Dollie Kelough of Salina, Oklahoma, four grandchildren; Calista Khalil, Riley Khalil, Brooklyn Khalil, all of Seminole and Dava Gore of Florida. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Her mother, Laura Mae Yancey; brother, Howard Lee Yancey and two sisters, Linda and Deloris Yancey preceded her in death. Casket bearers will be Steven Lozer, David Lozer, Tommy Monks, Billy Hart, Mike Hart, and David Colvin. Honorary casket bearers will be David Gore, Billy Lee, Jamal Khalil, Frank Gore, Jr., Mike Gore, Little Richard Kilgore and Adam Phillips.

Martha S. Lancaster

Funeral services for Seminole native Martha S. Lancaster are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Fisher Baptist Church. Rev. Danny Lynchard is set to officiate, and interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, under the direction of Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service of Sand Springs. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Lancaster, 45, died Friday, April 7, 2006, in Tulsa. She was born Jan. 13, 1961, in Seminole, to Kenneth and Barbara (Anglin) Mendenhall. She grew up in Seminole and graduated from Seminole High School, then attended college for a couple of years. On April 20, 2002, she was united in marriage to David Lancaster of Seminole. She was a homemaker and a member of Fisher Baptist Church. Lancaster moved to Sand Springs from Ft. Worth, Texas, in 2002. She enjoyed caring for elderly people, her two dachshunds, quilting, and playing the piano at her church in Ft. Worth. She is survived by her husband of the home in Sand Springs; her parents, of Seminole; two stepdaughters, Jackie Lancaster and Vanessa Lancaster, both of Sand Springs; two stepsons, George Lancaster of Tulsa and Jose Lancaster, serving with the U.S. Marines in Okinawa; one sister, Kathy Trammel, of Kingston; a brother, Robert Mendenhall, of Pensacola, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
