Emma Muirhead

Funeral services for former longtime Butner resident Emma Cleo Muirhead are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the Wilmont Baptist Church, 6440 S. Santa Fe, Oklahoma City, with her Pastor, Danny Frazee, nephew, Rev. Jess McDowell and great-nephew, Rev. Tyler McDowell officiating. A graveside service will be held in the Oakwood Cemetery at 2"30 p.m. Monday under the direction of Vondel Smith Funeral Home, Oklahoma City. Cleo Muirhead was born June 26, 1918 and passed away Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 after a short illness. She was currently living in Oklahoma City and recently celebrated her 88th birthday by attending the wedding of her great-grandson in Miami, Fla., then a cruise to the Bahamas with 11 family members. Cleo was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a member of the Wilmont Baptist Church in Oklahoma City and she taught Sunday school classes for many years, and was currently. Cleo enjoyed her family, crocheting, arts and crafts, made beautiful jewelry, and was an accomplished seamstress. She also enjoyed music and playing the piano. She attended central state Beauty College at the age of 68 and was awarded a plaque for making the highest score ever recorded at that school. Cleo loved life, family and friends and still had a great sense of humor. The most important part of Cleo was her deep Christian faith and she enjoyed studying her Bible daily. She loved sharing her faith in Jesus with everyone she knew. Her parents, Pete and Dessie Harjo; husband, Ples; one son, Joe; one daughter-in-law, Mary Warner; one grandson, Donnie and one sister, Opal Cox, preceded her in death. She is survived by three sons, Jimmy Warner of Wewoka, Alex Muirhead of Norman and Ricky and wife, Rhonda, Muirhead of Oklahoma City; four daughters, Deane Mosley and husband, Leon, of Wewoka, Carolyn Pumphrey and husband, John, of Oklahoma City, Linda Francis of Moore and Norma and husband, Frankie, Shantez of Moore; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Mattie Dillman of Wewoka and Carrie Ruth McClelland of Farmington, N.M.; one brother-in-law and wife, Dewey and Inez of Wewoka and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

Karen Green

Funeral services for former Seminole area resident Karen Lynn Green of Abilene, Texas, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Interment is to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole. Green, 54, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006 in Abilene, Texas. She was born Oct. 11, 1951 in Davenport, Iowa to Jack Lawrence Clayton and Mable (McRay) Clayton. On June 28, 1971 she married Phillip E. Green and was a homemaker. Surviving is her husband Phillip E. Green of Abilene, Texas; five sons, Shane Allen Green of Japan, Ralph Eugene Green of Davenport, Iowa, Thomas Duane Green of Seminole, Willie Whittet of Wewoka and Mike Suing of Cheyenne, Wyo.; three daughters, Shelly Ann Green of Wewoka, Winona Senechal of Seminole and Shea Johnson of Wewoka; two brothers, Charles Lawrence Clayton and John Richard Clayton of Davenport, Iowa and several grandchildren.

Jo Ann (Hilton) Zelaya

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Jo Ann (Hilton) Zelaya are set for 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at the Evangelistic Center in Shawnee, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole. David Pixley is set to officiate the services. Zelaya died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at her home in Seminole, at the age of 62. She was born in Bowlegs on March 17, 1944, to William Hilton and Iva (Meeks) Hilton. On Jan. 10, 1986, she married Freddy Zelaya in Seminole, and she worked many years as a sewing machine operator at Wrangler in Seminole. Zelaya was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Dec. 26, 1996; two sons, Curtis Lee and David Joe; two brothers, Robert Hilton and Ray Hilton; and one sister, Helen Moses. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Patty Jackson of Seminole; two brothers, Michael Hilton of Seminole and Tommy Hilton of Richmond, Texas; five sisters: Betty Meloy of Wilson, Billie Vaughn of Kingfisher, Norma Welch of Bowlegs, Melinda Pierce of St. Louis, and Darlene Selfridge of Shawnee; four grandchildren: Kristopher Jackson and his fiancée Kim Dean, Kathryn Jackson, and Steven Jackson.

Jesse Doolen

Graveside services for Wewoka native, Jesse "Bucky" Doolen, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Vamoosa Ceme- tery with Rev. Stacy Ross officiating. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa. Doolen, 58 of Oklahoma City, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006 at Integris Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born Aug. 12, 1948 in Wewoka to Jesse and Georgia Lenora (Ward) Doolen. He was of the Baptist faith and worked as a heavy equipment truck driver in the oilfield. His father preceded him in death. Surviving is his mother, Georgia Lenora Doolen of Oklahoma City; one son, Jesse Dwayne Doolen of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Bernice Reeves of Oklahoma City and Sonia Harrington of Choctaw; one brother, Henry "Pete" Peters of Newcastle; one sister, Sheila McKeel of Tuttle and loving friend, Peggy Smith of Choctaw.

J. Wendell Scott

A memorial service for longtime Seminole resident, J. Wendell Scott, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Terry Newell, Pascal Bevans and Randy Beauford officiating. 'The Cowboy Rides Away", Scott passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006 at the age of 86. He was born on July 4, 1920 in Rattan, Okla. to Carl William and Ida Mae (Brinlee) Scott. He married Aly`ce M. Elisabeth (Green) Scott on June 22, 1961 in Shawnee and was a longtime Seminole area rancher and ran a dairy farm for many years. He owned and operated Seminole Packing Company with his brother until 1963. Scott was a former president for the Seminole Roundup Club, Strother School Board member for 12 years, a 32-degree mason, and a lifelong member of the Seminole Masonic Lodge where he received his 50-year pin. He served during World War II in the United States Army where he was a Tech-5 in the 879th Ordnance Company. While there, he received the Good Conduct medal, Victory ribbon, American Theater ribbon, APT ribbon and the Meritorious Unit award. Surviving is his beloved wife of 45 years, Alyce of her home; daughter and son-in-law, Laura Susan (Scott) and Kevin Kincade of Seminole; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Penny Veitenheimer of Cromwell; daughter, Sheri S. Criswell of Oklahoma City; sister and brother-in-law, Lueetta (Scott) and Amel Darr of Seminole. Seven grandchildren, Kendell Kincade, Khanaa Kincade, Khara Elisabeth Suzanne Criswell, Glendon Gouker, Kyle Gouker, Bobbi Vincent and Billi Wright and six great grandchildren survive him. A host of nieces, including a very special niece Theresa Palmer of Shawnee, nephews, other family members and friends also survive him. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother J.C. Scott. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations may be made in memory of J. Wendell Scott to the Strother School Scholarship Fund, 36085 EW 1140, Seminole, OK 74868.

Sarah Merriman

A memorial service for former Wrangler plant worker, Sarah Grace Merriman is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday at the Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Crawford officiating. Services are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville. Merriman died at her daughter's home in Victoria, Texas on Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at the age of 68 years. She was the daughter of Joseph and Alta (Brimer) Payne, born on June 21, 1938, in Mason, Okla. She was brought up in the Mason and Okemah areas, and attended schools there. She was a hard worker and wasn't afraid to tackle any job, and she gave her best effort to whatever her job was. Merriman was an employee of Kingsberry Homes in Holdenville from 1972 until the plant closed in 1982, then for two years was a security guard for the Pinkerton Agency before moving to Texas. She operated The Family Store in Schroeder, Texas from 1984 to 1990, then returned to Oklahoma and worked at the Wrangler plant in Seminole until her failing health would no longer allow. In September 2006 she moved back to Texas to be with her daughter. Merriman had many hobbies and especially enjoyed doing crafts. She enjoyed getting together with family and friends, and the joy of her life was to be with her grandchildren. Her parents, Joseph and Alta Payne, and one brother, Joseph Payne, precede her in death. She is survived by five children, Teresa Schneider, Delbert Cornell, both of Victoria, Texas, and Daryl Cornell, Dennis Cornell, and Darla Rodgers, all of Holdenville; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Etta Connell of Yale, Okla., Wanda Gaddis of Choctaw, Sue Ellis of Auburn, Ind., and Nora Bryant of Wewoka, Oklahoma and one brother, Steven Green of Kingfisher, Okla.

Johnny Dodson

Graveside services for Wewoka native and former Cromwell resident, Johnny Leroy Dodson, were held today at 2 p.m. at the Bearden Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah. Dodson, 64, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 at his Bearden home. He was born Aug. 26, 1942 in Wewoka. Dodson lived most of his life in Cromwell before moving to Checotah. For the past four years he has been living in Bearden. On Aug. 26, 1961 he married Ellen Rose Anderson in Surprise, Ariz. and worked as a mechanic for many years. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are his four children, Eddie Dodson of Bearden, Regina Taylor of Conway, Ark., Tonya Castoe of Okemah and Johnny Dodson of Okemah; seven brothers, Boyce, Jami, Bobby, Hardy, Bill, Edward and Archie; three sisters, Joyce, Jewel and Irene; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Pallbearers for the services were James Whisnant, Charles Castoe, Robert Schmidkofer, Francis Underwood, Rick White and Lonnie Cheatwood.

Jimmy Welch

Funeral services for Jimmy Wayne Welch are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father McSherry and Deacon Dennis R. Frazier officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wetumka Cemetery with Rev. Larry Chesser officiating. Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville. Welch, 54, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006 at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born Nov. 19, 1951 south of Wetumka near the Horntown community to John Lloyd and Grace "Tippin" Welch. He was raised in the Horntown community and graduated from Moss High School in 1970. Welch then graduated from East Central State University in Ada in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in environmental science and was on the Dean's Honor List. Welch was employed at the Oklahoma State Department of Central Services for 25 years and then owned and operated Welch Consultating. On April 11, 2003 he married Pamela Garrity and was a member of the Masons and the India Masonic Shrine Temple in Oklahoma City. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and Nascar racing. His parents and one brother, Ralph L. Welch preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife, Pamela Welch of the home and five siblings, Rena Pitts of Holdenville, Rosalee Mulanax of Weatherford, Texas, Roy Welch of Horntown, Ruth Reich of Wewoka and David Welch of Katy, Texas. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested donation be sent to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2121 N. Portland, Oklahoma City, OK 73107 in his memory.

Nancy Newcomb

A memorial service for former Seminole County resident Nancy Jane (Hook) Newcomb is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at john Ireland Funeral Home in Moore. Newcomb, 57, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006 in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was born and raised in the Strother Community to Ed and Marie Hook. Surviving are her children, Deana Carter and Kenneth Carter and sisters, Glenna Guinn and Ann Hester.

Bessie Neal

Graveside services for lifelong Konawa resident Bessie Mae (Boltin) Neal are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Konawa Cemetery with Rev. Pam Shirk officiating. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa. Neal, 97, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006 at Boyce Manor Nursing Home in Holdenville. She was born Dec. 27, 1908 in Konawa to Arthur A. and Rachel Prudence (Moore) Boltin. On Dec. 12, 1926 she married Lewis Edward Neal in Konawa and was a homemaker. Her husband (July 29, 1972); parents; one son, Robert; one daughter, Kathryn; one grandson, Lewis Ray; one granddaughter, Sue; one brother and two sisters preceded her in death. Surviving is one son, Darrell Neal of Konawa; one daughter, Dorothy Ringgold of Holdenville; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchil- dren.

Bryce O'Guinn

Funeral services for We- woka native Bryce J. O'Guinn are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Baptist Church with Rev. L.E. Oliver officiating. Burial is to follow at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh. O'Guinn, of Shawnee, passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 2006 at the age of 31 years. He was born Feb. 10, 1075 in Wewoka to Melvin and Rosetta (Toles) O'Guinn. Bryce attended Washington Elementary, Shawnee Jr. High and Shawnee High School. He was a maintenance technician for the citizen Potawatomi Nation. On Feb. 6, 1997 he married Serreta A. Napoleon in Shawnee. He loved working on cars and putting models together with his two sons. His grandfather, Olean O'Guinn and his grandmother, Laura Phillips preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife, Serreta O'Guinn of Shawnee; two sons, Diontre' K. O'Guinn and Anthony K. O'Guinn, both of Shawnee; parents, Melvin and Rosetta O'Guinn of Shawnee; sister, Natika O'Guinn and her son, Ta'Sean Hishaw of Shawnee; brother, James Toles of Wewoka; brother-in-law and sister in-law, Robert and Maxine Napoleon of Brooksville; nephews, Joshua Nickolas and Braden Napoleon, of Brooksville; niece, Courtney Toles of Wewoka; father- and mother-in-law, Bobby and Kay Napoleon of Shawnee; grandmother, Thirkield O'Guinn of Wewoka and a host of other relatives and friends.

Aline Dyer

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident Aline Bernice Dyer are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doyle Long officiating. Interment is to follow at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole. Dyer, 62, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006 at Seminole Estates Care Center. She was born Sept. 22, 1944 in Seminole County, near Wolf, to Lonnie Maxwell and Artie (Reames) Maxwell. She graduated from Vamoosa High School in 1961 and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Konawa. Her father (2001) and one brother, Roy Dean Maxwell preceded her in death. Surviving is her mother, Artie Maxwell of Seminole; son, Joe Allen Maxwell of Norman; four brothers, Bobby Maxwell of Harrah, Loyd Maxwell of Konawa, J.L. Maxwell of Seminole and Edward Maxwell of Konawa; three sisters, Kathleen Parks of Seminole, Evyleen Lemmings of Konawa and Dorothy Staring of Wewoka and one granddaughter. Casket bearers for the services will be Ed Lemmings, Kevin Staring, Keith Maxwell, J.L. Maxwell, Loyd Maxwell and Chris Maxwell.

Terry Dallas

A private cremation service has been scheduled for Seminole resident Terry Jay Dallas. Dallas, 42, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 at his home in Seminole. He was born Dec. 22, 1963 in Houston, Texas to parents Clarence William Dallas and Patricia Marie (Hill) Dallas. He was a custodian for Coates Metal Works in Seminole and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Mo. His parents, one sister, Tina Dallas, one brother, Shawn Dallas and one nephew, Jon Woodruff preceded him in death. Survivors include four brothers, Patrick Dallas of Seminole, Tim Dallas of Perrysville, Mo., Larry Backer of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. and Clarence Dallas of Festus, Mo. and two sisters, Penny Woodruff of Seminole and Connie Page of Alta Loma, Calif.

Debby Huynh

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Debby Jean Huynh are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at New Testament Church, Wewoka, with Edward Daney officiating. Interment is to follow at Grace Family Cemetery, Achille, Okla. A wake service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday at the Wewoka residence under the direction of Stout-Philips Funeral Home. Huynh, 53, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 in Oklahoma City. She was born Jan. 7, 1953 in Atoka to Roger and Ada (Wilkerson) Johnson. She married TuVan Huynh on July 2, 1998 in Wewoka and she was a mother and homemaker. Huynh was a member of New Life Church in Wewoka and attended school in Dallas, Texas. Her parents, brother, Roy Lee Billey and Jimmy Billey preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Jacquelyn Jackson of Oklahoma City and Katheren Gosvener of Tulsa; two sons, Francis Henry Jr. of Oklahoma City and Jerry Henry of Palm Park, Texas; four brothers, Roman Billey, Harry Billey and Bud Billey, all of Dallas, Texas and Bobby Billey of Allen; three sisters, Martha Billey, Linda Alemean and Dorothy Billey, all of Dallas, Texas and 13 grandchildren.
