Betty L. Teachman, 73, passed away at her home in Nowata after a short battle with lung cancer. Betty worked as a housekeeper at United General Hospital in Northwest Washington for 30 years before retiring and returning to Nowata. She is survived by her son, Ernest Teachman Jr. and wife, Pam of Cathlamet, Washington; one daughter, Holly Rehagen and husband, Darrell of Sedro Woolley, Washington; grandchildren, G.S.E. 2 Joseph Teachman, stationed at a Naval Base in Everett, Washington, Elizabeth and Chris Huskey of Springs, Texas, Stephanie and Josh Toews-Cochran of Poway, California, Nahtanha Rehagen, of Atlanta, Georgia, Dusting Rehagen and Sasha Reinstra of Nowata, Colton Rehagen, of Nowata; great grandchildren, Gunner Huskey, Blaine Cochran, Alannah Rehagen; sisters, Marjorie Monroe of Nowata, Carol Tatum of Oologah; one brother, Jack Woods, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania and many other relatives and a host of friends. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 5 in Memorial Park Cemetery, Nowata under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Home of Nowata.
Will Froman
Will (Bill) Arklo Froman, 78, passed away Monday, July 30, 2007. He had owned Froman Auto in Oologah. He served with the 45th Recon during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952 and earned the rank of Corporal. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Froman; five children, Gena and wife Janie Froman of Owasso, Barbara and husband Mark Edwards of Lakewood, Colorado, Brenda and husband Leo Pidgeon of Owasso, Jane and husband Keith Sherill of Wagoner, Darel and wife Jeannie Hughes of Las Cruces, New Mexico; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two sisters; three brothers; two nieces and a sister-in-law. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug 1 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service; burial in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.
Fannie Hudson Pinkerton
Fannie Hudson Pinkerton, 69, of Oologah, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2007 in Tulsa. She spent much of her working life as a seamstress and a homemaker. She is survived by two daughters, Anita K. Mills and her husband Walt of Tonganoxie, Kansas and Kendra Shrum and her husband Tim of Broken Arrow; one son, Johnny Parker and his wife Tandy of Sapulpa; 10 grandchildren; three great Grandchildren; daughter-in-law Carol McKenzie of Oologah; and one brother, Billy Clayton of Vera. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at Lamar in the Lamar Cemetery with Greg and Kim Hurst officiating. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.

Lester Ray Boegemann, 70, passed away July 10, 2007 at Southcrest Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Janet of the home; sons, Thomas Pleasants of Florida, Mark Boegemann and wife Michelle, of Sugarhill, GA. and Les Boegemann and wife Mary, of Benson, AZ; daughters, Angela Childress and husband Jerimiah, of Tulsa and Kelly Birley and husband John, of Claremore; mother, Martha Boegemann of Rosedale, IL; sisters, Nola Stocker and Vetta Day of St. Louis and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 13, at Mid-America Christian Center, with Rev. Bill Street officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Navy followed in Sageeyah Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service and Crematory.
G. L. Pilkington
G.L. Pilkington, 82, of Oologah, passed away at his home Sunday, July 15, 2007. He was a medic in the Army in WW2 and retired from American Airlines in 1981. He is survived by his children, Debra Burchett of Talala, Gary and his wife Gail Pilkington of Oologah, Clay Pilkington of Oologah, and Zenda and her husband John Chase of Woodward; grandchildren, Dax and his wife Amber Burchett, Luke Pilkington, Matt Pilkington, Joe Pilkington and Tristan Todd; great-grandchild, Jaxson Burchett; one nephew; nieces and many loving in-laws and cousins. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Willie Mae, just two weeks earlier. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 19 at the Baptist Tabernacle in Collinsville under the direction of Collinsville Funeral Home.

Walter A. Banfield Sr., 77, passed away June 26, 2007. Walter began his career at the family business, Banfield Meats and later owned a variety of business including Bowl-A-Rama of Tulsa. He is survived by his children, Walter Banfield Jr. and his wife Mary Ellen of Estes Park, Colorado, Joe Banfield of Tulsa, Cindy Adams of Tulsa, Peter Banfield and wife Lisa of Tulsa and Susie McDaniels and husband Scott of Talala; grandchildren, Chris Banfield, Mike Banfield, Brian Banfield, Angie Draeger, Emily Banfield, Jeremy Adams, Joshua Adams, Haylea Adams, Megan McDaniels, Ryan McDaniels and Jazz Banfield; great-grandchildren, Madalyn Banfield, Chloe Draeger, Clair Draeger, Sophie Banfield and Gretchen Banfield. Services were held Thursday, June 28 under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home in Sperry.

Allen Barnes, 63, of Nowata, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2007 at the Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City. Barnes was an owner of the Oologah Sonic Drive-In. Funeral services for Barnes were to be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, in the Living Word Family Church with Ben Killion officiating. Interment was to follow in the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Home of Nowata. Barnes is survived by his wife Marion of the home; by a daughter, Sheri Owens and her husband Shane of Nowata; by a son, Doug Barnes and his wife Mickey of Nowata; by eight grandchildren, Cougar Mader, Lexis Mader, Cody Owens, Lucas Owens, Justice Owens, Jakob Barnes, Dillon Barnes, and Mackenzie Barnes.

Amanda Amber “AK47” Kelley, 20, of Claremore passed away Friday, July 6, 2007 from injuries she suffered in an automobile accident. She was an All-Star pitcher for the Lady Zebra softball team. She was employed as a dispatcher with the Claremore Police Department. She is survived by her parents, Mark and Amy Kelley; four sisters, Brianna Kelley, Megan Wood, Stormy Kelley and Autumn Kelley, all of the home; grandparents, Tom and Sharyn Hundley of Claremore and Jack and Barbara Kelley of Skiatook; great-grandparents, Ann King of Claremore and Bertha Kelley of Sand Springs; aunts and uncles, Tom and Cheri Hundley of Claremore, Daniel and Dareth Kelley of Choctaw, Buck and Becky King of Blackwell and Suzanne Kelley of Owasso; great-aunts and uncles, Debbie King of Claremore, Owen and Margaret Condit of Locust Grove; “The Party of 5” and numerous other family members and friends. Doris Renee McQueen, 45, passed away Friday, July 6, 2007 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She worked at Avis Car Rental as a facility purchaser for 22 years. She is survived by her husband, Jeff of the home; two daughters, Rachael Renee and Heather Marie, both of the home; parents, Kenneth and Rosemary Hanes of Claremore; two sisters, Jolene Paget of Claremore and Rhonda Hanes of Sperry; and many other family members. Services were held Tuesday, July 10, at the Church of the Nazarene; burial was in Sageeyah Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service and Crematory.

Diana Kay Seratt, 42, of Owasso, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2007. She completed her secondary education in Oologah and graduated with the class of 1985. She is survived by her parents, Wayne and Betty Seratt of the home; one sister, Waynette and husband Steve Long, of Oologah; one brother, Larry and wife Carie Seratt, of Glendale, Arizona; four nephews; four nieces; one great nephew; two great nieces; one great step-nephew and one great step-niece. Services were held Monday, June 9, at Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with her brother, Pastor Larry Seratt officiating; burial in Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso under the direction of Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.

Elizabeth Mae Sweeney, 89, of Collinsville, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2007. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church where she was active in The Legion of Mary Altar Society and Women’s Club. She is survived by one son, Joe Sweeney and partner Cheryl Lee Clay of Bixby; one daughter, Vicki Jolley and her husband Jack of Oologah; two sisters, Alma Blakley of Catoosa and Katy Rott and her husband Fred of Pryor; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial was Friday, July 6 at St. Therese Catholic Church with burial following in Ridgelawn Cemetery.

William Leslie Armstrong, 58, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. He was born March 10, 1949 in Oklahoma City to William Louis and Zola Fern (Armstrong). He was employed with the T.D. Williamson Co. He is survived by one daughter, Kelley and husband, Dan Scott of Tulsa; two sons, Anthony and wife, Tavia Armstrong of Collinsville and Greg and wife, Robin Armstrong of Tulsa; fiancé, Janice Coffer of Tulsa; sister, Rita and husband, Ted Flood of Moore; grandchildren, Alexander, Natalie, Nathan, Leah; nephews, Andy Modest, Dennis Moore and former wife Rita Marlene Armstrong of Broken Arrow. Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Hayhurst Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home.

Dortha Irene Cook, 80, passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 at Alterra Sterling House in Claremore. She was born March 9, 1927 in Claremore to Raymond Louis and Melven Tempa (Paullus) Hendricks. She married Wilbert Cook on Aug. 4, 1946 in Talala, where they raised their three children on a farm. Dortha taught in Tulsa and Oologah-Talala Public Schools for 35 years. She is survived by her children, Marilyn Hinkle and husband, Norman, of Owasso, Connie Chambers and husband, Blake, of Claremore and Rick Cook and wife, Jacalyn, of Owasso; grandchildren, Hunter Hinkle of Athens, GA., Jon Hinkle of Owasso, Brandon Chambers and wife, Alicia, of Claremore, Megan Leipzig and husband, Michael, of Claremore, Jay Cook and wife, Tiffany, of Talala, Rebecca Cook of Owasso and Chris Cook of Owasso; great grandsons, Tristan Hammerton of Claremore and Kaycen Cook of Talala. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert, parents and brother, Joe Ray Hendricks. Funeral services were to be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the First Baptist Church in Talala, with Rev. Lester Orwig officiating. Burial was set in Fairview Cemetery in Talala under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service and Crematory in Claremore.

Wanda Jean Hunter, 68, of Talala, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007. She was born August 13, 1939 in Bushyhead to Floyd and Nell (Harris) Ward. She retired from McDonnell-Douglas where she worked in inventory control. She is survived by her husband, Tony, of the home; one daughter, Michelle; three sons, Mark, Michael and Matthew Marquis; three sisters, Irene Hunter, Joyce Eberhart and Kathleen Baumann; two brothers, Floyd Ward and Billy Lewallen, and two grandchildren. Graveside services were held at 2:30p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 in Resthaven Cemetery in Ninde Brookside Chapel.

Jared Harley Joe Layton, infant son of Justin and Jessica Layton of Oologah, was stillborn Monday, Dec. 3, 2007 at Claremore Regional Hospital. He is survived by his parents; one sister, Daisy; maternal grandparents, Pamela and Jonas March of Talala and paternal grandfather Larry Layton of Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Jolene Layton. Services were to be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel. Burial was planned in the Fairview Cemetery in Talala under the direction of Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso.

Donald Ray Wriston, 66, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 at his residence in Talala. He was born June 29, 1941 to Homer and Lelo (Odneal) Wriston. He was an owner/operator truck driver most of his life and a member of the Team Roper Association. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen of the home; one daughter, Gena Hampton and husband, Jimmy, of Turpin; two grandchildren, Cherie White and husband, Steve, and Jacob Hampton of Turpin; one great granddaughter, Cassondra; one brother, Ron Wriston of Colorado; two step-children, Robert Morrison and Janet Slack, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3 at Sien-Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Clark officiating. Services were under the direction of Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.

Vicki Leanne Summers, 56, local resident of rural Oologah, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007. She was born July 4, 1951 in Tulsa to Charles Lee and Rada Anne (Ingram) Higgins. She married Thomas A. Summers April 26, 1974 in Tulsa. They lived in Tulsa and Broken Arrow before moving to Oologah in 1983. She is survived by her husband of over 33 years, Tom of the home; one daughter, Cari and her husband, Alan Aberle of Owasso; three sons, Matthew Thomas Summers and his wife, Janice of Joliet, IL, James Thomas Summers and his wife, Lydia of Joliet, IL and Daniel Thomas Summers of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Andrew Thomas Summers, Nathan James Summers, Selah Alyssa Grace Aberle, Bryson Noah Aberle and Charis Alayna Anne Aberle; one brother, Duane and his wife, Linda Higgins of Tulsa; one sister, Jana Cooley of Tulsa and parents, Charles and Rada Higgins of Tulsa. Services were held at noon Monday, Nov. 26, at First Christian Church of Owasso with Pastor Charlie Curran, Pastor Matthew T. Summers and Pastor James T. Summers officiating. Private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be to the Senior Adult Ministry, c/o First Christian Church of Owasso, 12200 East 86th St. North, Owasso, OK 74055. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
