JERRY CLAUDE HICKOK

Jerry Claude Hickok, 75, of Claremore, passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008. He was born Oct. 27, 1932 in Tulsa. He graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Jerry and his wife, Nina Louise (Acklin) Hickok, moved to Rogers County in 1961. He worked for American Airlines until retiring in 1989. He is survived by his wife Nina of the home; one son Brian Hickok and wife Debbie of Claremore; four daughters, Michele Vunovich and husband Ray of Kansas City, MO, Melody Hendrix and husband Jeff, Marina Sawyer and husband John, Melissa Mann and husband Brian (Tiny), all of Claremore; one sister, Naidene York of McAlester; 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces. Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Washington Baptist Church. Burial was in Washington Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.

FRED E. JOHNSON

Fred E. Johnson, 92, of Talala passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008. He was born Nov. 20, 1915 in Checotah to Charlie and Elsie (Lewallen) Johnson. He was a farmer and worked for Ramsey Winch before retiring in 1981. He survived by his wife, Helen, of the home; daughter Peggy Rider and husband, Nathan of Talala, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother and father; four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Jan. 22 at the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Osage Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.

MARY JANE VANDERPOOL WELCH

Mary Jane Welch, 82, of Talala, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008. Mary Jane Bradley graduated from Oologah HIgh School in 1943. She married Glen Mayof Vanderpoll on Jan. 6, 1946. They raised three children on the family farm in Oologah. May Vanderpool died in 1991. Mary Jane married Butler Welch in July, 2002. She is survived by husband Butler, daughter Betty Johnson and husband Bill of Talala, daughter Geoma Pennington and husband Phil of Oologah and son Jim Vanderpool and wife Shriley of Oologah, nine grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Oologah United Methodist Church, with interment at Wann Cemetery under the direction of Oologah Dolton Funeral Home.

COLLEEN MAY GABRIEL

Colleen May Garbriel, 46, of Oologah, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008. Visitation is Monday at Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home. The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Dawson Freewill Baptist Church in Tulsa, with interment at Hickory Grove Cemetery near Grove.

CHESTER LLOYD BALDWIN

Chester Lloyd “Chet” Baldwin, 91, lifelong resident of Oologah, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008 at his home. He was born Jan. 9, 1916 to George and Hattie Baldwin. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Dirickson, on Nov. 23, 1936. They have three children, Jack, Judy and Linda. He retired from the state of Oklahoma at the age of 65. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ruth; two daughters, Judy Ashwood and her husband, Danny, of Oologah and Linda Mattison and her husband, Glen, of Skiatook; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his son, Jack Lloyd Baldwin. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Assembly of God Church in Oologah with Rev. Mark Bright and Rev. Ben Williams officiating; burial was in Oakhill Cemetery in Oologah under the direction of Oologah Dolton Funeral Home.

LENORA H. BUCHFINK Lenora H. Buchfink, 102, of Oologah passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008 in Collinsville. She was born Oct. 16, 1905 in Parkston, SD to Daniel and Matilda Hildebrand. She lived in the Collinsville/Oologah area since 1938. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Collinsville. She is survived by ten children, Norma Sappington of Catoosa, John Buchfink, Jr. of Tulsa, Ted Buchfink and wife Annabelle of Catoosa, Dale Buchfink and wife Zelda of Owasso, Marvin Buchfink and wife Tommie of Oologah, Charles Buchfink and wife Merrillyn of Talala, Helen Hamblin of Oologah, Harry Buchfink and wife Tommy of Broken Arrow, Richard Buchfink and wife Carol of Howe and Daniel Buchfink of Oologah; one sister, Evelyn Cummer of Yakima, WA; 27 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Buchfink, and one daughter, Betty Clow. Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7 at the Church of the Nazarene in Collinsville with Rev. Tim Odom and Rev. Charla Gwartney officiating. Burial was in Ridgelawn Cemetery under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.

DONALD MERLE GRIGGS Donald M. Griggs, 77, passed away Dec. 2, 2007 in Hanford, CA. He was born December 4, 1929 in Kansas City, MO to John H. and Elva (Jones) Griggs. Don grew up in Mingo and attended Mingo School and Mingo Baptist Church for many years. He was a proud member of the U.S. Navy, which he joined when he was 17. He served for eight years which included the Korean War. He was a member of the Northern Cherokee Nation. Prior to his recent illness, Don had been planning on moving to Oologah to be closer to family and friends. He is survived by four brothers, Jack and wife Janet of Oologah, Charles and wife Carmella of Holden, MO, Jerry of Edgerton, MO, Larry and wife Lauretta of Independence, MO; three sisters, Mary and husband Bob Stanton of Kansas City, MO, Elva and husband, Eldred Osiek of Independence, MO, and Patricia and husband James Dean of Oceana, CA; sister-in-law Jean of Calhoun, MO; step-daughters Lorraine and husband Merrell Pettigrew of Hanford, CA, and Bernadette and husband Phil Parkhurst of Grants, NM; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years, Emily Silva Cardoza; his parents and brothers, Johnny and Carl.

KATHRYN MARIE HILL Kathryn Marie Hill, infant daughter of Ryder and Kathryn (Trout) Hill, entered into and left this world on Jan. 2, 2008 in Pittsburg, KS. She was loved by so many and will be missed by all. She is survived by her parents, Ryder and Kathryn Hill of Pittsburg, KS; grandparents, Joe and Jowahna Hill and Mark and Pam Troutt, all of Oologah; great grandparents, Billy and Nancy Hill, Joe and Wahnee Tanner of Oologah, Jim and Kay Gray of Mansfield, AR and Wes and Esther Troutt of Talala; three uncles and two aunts, Tanner and Shawna Hill of Oologah, Justin and Angela Troutt of Talahina, and Jonathan Troutt of Oologah; two cousins, Dallie Jo and Dax Hill of Oologah; and numerous family and friends. Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m., Monday Jan. 7 in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Oologah Dolton Funeral Home.

MARY L. FOSTER ROBERTSON Mary L. Foster Robertson, 74, of Oologah passed away at home Jan. 8, 2008. She was born June 16, 1933 in Owasso to Jacob and Opal (Seward) Foster. She retired from Creekside Plants and Produce. Her favorite pastimes were going to rodeos and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by one son, Mark Robertson and wife Winnona of Oologah; three grandchildren, Lindy Robertson Calico and husband Ike, Joni Robertson and Cody Hickock and John Robertson, all of Oologah; three great grandchildren, Hadley and Brody Calico and Mackenzie Hickock; and numerous family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Robertson; parents, Jacob and Opal Foster and all of her brothers and sister. A Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday (today) Jan. 10 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Collinsville. Visitation will follow at 7 p.m. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday Jan. 11 at St. Therese Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made to Bit by Bit, Attn: Jana Walstrom, 16544 S. Hwy. 169, Oologah, OK 74053.

GEORGE STRITZKE George Stritzke, 90, passed away in Nowata Dec. 24, 2007. He was born Sept. 24, 1917 in Leonard to Paul Sr. and Kate Pregler Stritzke. At the age of four months the family moved east of Talala to a farm on the Verdigris River. He loved farm life and there wasn’t anything he put his hand on that he couldn’t do. On May 1, 1955, he married Mary Lay at the Nowata Life Assembly of God Church. They built a home five miles east of Talala and had two sons, Tommy Wayne and Anthony B. “Tony” while they lived there. In September 1959 the family moved to Nowata County at the county line and built a home where twins Penny and Jenny were born. He is survived by his wife of 52 and half years Mary; son, Tom and his wife Jolene of Nowata; two daughters, Penny Gonzales and husband Alan and Jenny Deane and her husband Walter “Bud” of Bartlesville; five grandchildren, Rob Maggard of Nowata, Randall Maggard of Bartlesville, Samantha Gonzales of Nowata, Eric Gonzales of Nowata and Tomi Jo Stritzke of Nowata. He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Stritzke in 2004; his mother and dad; and brothers, Frank, Joe, Ed and Paul Jr. Services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 28 at the Benjamin Funeral Home Chapel; burial was in Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Home of Nowata. MITCHELL FRANK MALTSBERGER
Mitchell Frank Maltsberger, 15, of Oologah, passed away after a skiing accident in Colorado. He was born on February 1, 1992 in Stillwater, Oklahoma and carried the name of his maternal grandfather, Frank Maltsberger, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his parents, Joe and Terri Maltsberger; his brother Micah; sister Maggie; sister Morgan and her fiancé Phillip Bogart; grandparents Bob and Charlotte Weir and Doris Maltsberger; and cat Bonecrusher.

Mitch was a sophomore at Oologah-Talala High School; he was a true renaissance man who argued for the debate team, played tennis, sparred with the wrestling team, and played a major role in the most recent one-act play. He enjoyed hiking and camping with the Boy Scouts of Troop 238 and was working toward the rank of Eagle Scout. He loved reading comics, dancing with his sisters, beating his dad at racquetball, playing computer games with his brother, and being the apple of his mother's eye. He was active in the ministries of the Bible Church of Owasso and the Harbor Church in Oologah.

Mitchell's charm was rivaled only by his altruistic heart; his ability to ignite a room with laughter was surpassed only by his personal investment in the happiness of others. His natural charisma and his Christ-focused life enabled him to reach out, build relationships, and relate to all types of people. He was a great friend to many and an inspiration to all.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., January 1, at the Oologah Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, January 2, at 3:30 at the Oologah-Talala High School auditorium followed by a graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Oologah. Flowers can be sent to the Oologah Funeral Home. Contributions for youth-related ministries in Mitch's name can be made to the Bible Church of Owasso.

JACK AND ELAINE DENNEY
Jack Denney, 65 and Elaine Denney, 66, of Locust Grove, were found dead in their home Christmas day. Jack Raymond Denney was born on Oct. 29, 1942 in Broken Arrow to Ralph Eugene and Flossie (McDonald) Denney. Elaine Childress was born Nov. 24, 1941 in Wellington, TX, to Roy and Edith (Hilgenfeld) Childress. The couple graduated from Sperry High School in 1960 and was married on Jan. 21, 1961, in Tulsa. Jack recently retired from GRDA as a Superintendent of Mechanical Maintenance. Jack Denney was the nephew of Jess and Bonnie Denney of Talala. Other survivors include two children, Chris Denney and wife, Leatha of Allen, TX, and Sarah Keener and husband, Ladney of Locust Grove; five grandchildren, Kate, Rachel, Jakob, Kaelyn and Lyndsey and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 30 at the Locust Grove High School Gymnasium with Rev. Rick Harms officiating. Burial was in Rose Cemetery under the direction of Locust Grove Funeral Home.

CHERYL MARLENE MCCOLLEY
Cheryl Marlene McColley, 47, of Collinsville passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 in Owasso. She was born May 22, 1960 in Tulsa to L.D. and Patsy Lou (Howe) Chappell. She is survived by her husband, Jerry of the home, mother, Patsy Chappell of Collinsville; mother and father-n-law J.D. and Beverly McColley of Collinsville; three children, Chris McColley and his wife Kelli of Collinsville, Cherina McColley of Collinsville and Jerica McColley of Collinsville; three grandchildren, Chase, Chandler and Cameryn McColley; two brothers, Larry DeWayne Chappell of Collinsville and David Chappell of Talala and several nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. Funeral services were to be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2 at the First Assembly of God Church in Collinsville with Rev. Roy Lish officiating; burial in Wann Cemetery under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.

SHELIA ANN PHILLIPS
Shelia Ann Phillips, 40, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. She was born Nov. 1, 1967 in Ft. Worth, TX. to Raymond Dale and Carolyn Ann (Bowman) Anderson. She is survived by her husband, Paul of Tulsa; two daughters, Britni and Lindsay Phillips of Nowata; her mother, Carolyn Dobbins of Tulsa; brother, Rick Anderson and Paula Ducummon of Sand Springs; and sister, Diane Anderson and Kenneth Morgan of Tulsa. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Rev. Lester Orwig officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Talala under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith.

WILLIAM EDWARD TALLY
William Edward Tally, 79, of Oologah, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007 in Collinsville. He was born Feb. 19, 1928 in Pershing to Thomas Edward and Lillian Pauline Tally. He moved from Sperry to the Oologah area in 1969. He retired from Richardson Propane and worked as a rancher. He was past president for both Turley and Oologah Round Up Clubs. He is survived by four children, Carolyn Green and husband, Don of Rison, AR, Billy Tally and wife, Mary of NC, Phyllis Tally and Cheryle Tally, both of Oologah; four brothers, Robert Tally and wife, Mildred of Tulsa, Tommy Tally and wife, Ella May of North Little Rock, AR, Donald Tally and wife, Nancy of Edmond, and Robert Carter of North Little Rock, AR; one sister, Sue Kersey of North Little Rock AR, three sister-in-laws, Mary Ellen Tally of Marlow, Kay Tally and Barbara Tally, both of Little Rock, AR; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26 at Wann Cemetery under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.

GORDON THOMPSON
Gordon Thompson, 63, of Claremore, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at St. Francis South in Tulsa. The son of Ben Sam and Zelma Oleta Johnson Thompson was born Sept. 17, 1944 in Oakland, CA. He graduated from Webster High School in Tulsa in 1963. Gordon married Hazel Lou Hayes in 1973. He retired after 23 years in the Oklahoma National Guard and was retired from Nordam. Family members surviving are his wife of 33 years, Hazel of Claremore; sons, Corey and wife Billye Thompson of Tulsa and Kirby Thompson of Claremore; daughter Amanda and husband Bryan Hestdalen of Claremore; brothers, Novale and wife Stacy Thompson of Oologah, Dan and wife Allison Thompson of Memphis, TN; sisters, Ann and husband Dennis Voss of Tulsa, and Bobbie and husband Rick Roberts of Claremont, FL; brother-in-law, Fred and wife Shirley Wasson of Broken Arrow; sister-in-law Ruth and husband Mike Villegas of Tahlequah; grandchildren, Greg, Josh, Jeff, Tyler, Ana, Ashya, Junior, Ryan, Hailey, Bailey, Brook, Corey, and Brett. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel. Pastor Elliott Dunn will officiate. Visitation will be 1 until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

CHARLES SIDNEY BARRON
Charles Sidney Barron, 83, passed away Friday, April 4, 2008. He was a Petroleum Land Man and the father of Brad Barron of Talala. Services were held April 8 at Reynolds Funeral Service Chapel in Collinsville.
