William Leroy Roberson

Graveside services for William Leroy "Bill" Roberson, 69, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Little Cemetery.

Rev. Roy Robertson Jr., and Jim Gillum will officiate. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

The longtime Seminole resident died Thursday at Seminole Municipal Hospital.

Roberson was born July 23, 1927 at Barnett, Ill. To Millard H. Roberson and Mabel (Jackson) Roberson.

On July 9, 1949, he married Marcine Mainord in Seminole; she survives him of the home.

Roberson moved to Seminole from Illlinois when he was a child and has lived most of his life in this area.

He was a truck driver for Magcobar and worked at Seminole Lumber. He was a member of the Bowlegs Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Other survivors include two sons, Leroy Roberson of Weatherford and Steven Roberson, Wewoka, one daughter, Wanda Pierce, Seminole, one sister, Zelma Steward, Tecumseh, 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

William Rothrock
Announcement has been received of the death of a Seminole High School football and track legend of the late 1940’s.

William Raymond "Bill" Rothrock, affectionately known as "Bull" or "The Rock" by his fellow athletes, died July 18 in Bakersfield, Calif.

He was a 1949 graduate of Seminole High School, where he was a four-year letterman in football. He was selected to the All-State football team. His name still appears on the plaque attached to the Chieftain football stadium.

The year following his graduation, he was voted outstanding player in the 1950 Alumni Football game.

Rothrock also set records in several state track events, including shot-put and discus throwing.

He was born in Seminole on July 21, 1930 to Ben Rothrock and Alta (Taber) Rothrock. His parents were the founders and owners of Ben’s Barbeque in Seminole, Wewoka and Durant. The family tradition of Ben’s Barbeque is being carried on in Durant and Holdenville by Rothrock’s nephews, Joe and Benny Rothrock, and his sister-in-law, Gretta Rothrock.

Rothrock’s grandparents, W. M. and Lucy Rothrock, owned and operating a grocery store for many years in the Pure Oil Camp area east of Seminole.

In 1953, Rothrock married his classmate and high school sweetheart, Edna Lee Carter. She survives him of their home in Bakersfield.

Rothrock attended Oklahoma City University and Seminole Junior College.

He worked 33 years for Oilwell Division of U.S. Steel in the Rocky Mountains, Alaska, Rio Vista and Bakersfield, where he retired in 1984.

Rothrock was preceded in death by parents, his brother, Bob Rothrock and by his sister, Peggy (Rothrock) Langwell.

At Rothrock’s request, there no funeral services, but a memorial open house was held at the family home for friends and loved ones.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Mercy Foundation, 2215 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93301, or a charity of the contributor’s choice.

Roger Milton Sallee

A private family burial was held for Roger Milton Sallee, 40, at Little Cemetary under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Sallee died Friday in Shawnee.

He lived in Seminole for several years, and moved to Shawnee in 1993.

He was born December 8, 1956 to Kenneth Hugh Sallee and Edna Nadine (Rogers) Smithson in Orange, Calif.

Sallee was preceded in death by his mother.

Survivors include his father, Kenneth Sallee, Eureka, Calif.; his companion, Estelena Little Charley, Shawnee; one daughter, Melanie Sallee, Shawnee; two brothers, David Sallee of Citrus Heights, Calif. and Kenny Sallee, Midland, Texas; and two sisters, Lovina Morgan, Seminole and Marilyn Sallee, Citrus Heights, Calif.

Yoman Scott Sr.

Funeral services for Yoman Scott Sr., are scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. at Spring Baptist Church in Sasakwa with Reverends George Jesse and Bryant Jesse officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka.

Wake services are planned for Primrose Chapel on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Scott died Sunday in Norman at the age of 76.

He was born July 6, 1921 to Peter and Arnie Hully in Sylvan.

Scott married Josephine Fixico on April 3, 1946 in Wewoka.

He was an Army veteran and served during World War II.

Scott was a member of Spring Baptist Church and the VFW.

He was retired from Inland Machine and Welding.

Scott moved to Norman in 1989 from Oklahoma City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother.

Scott is survived by two sons, Randoph Steven Scott of Oklahoma City, and Yoman Scott Jr. of Del City, three daughters, Barbara Schuessler, of Oklahoma City, Linda Florez of Moore and Sharon Paukei of Norman and sister Marie Larney of Oklahoma City.

Other survivors include 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Donald Sebourn

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Donald Earl Sebourn, 62 will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Church of Christ in Little.

Rusty Dawson will officiate the service.

Burial will take place at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Sebourn was born June 24, 1935 in Seminole to Earl Short and Clyde (Meadors) Sebourn.

He married Colleen Kernal on Oct. 6, 1961 in Little Community.

Sebourn was the owner of Rascoe Machine Ship and C.S. Smoke Shop, and was a member of the Church of Christ in Little.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Delight Sebourn, Tecumseh; one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Jeff Knox, Seminole; and one brother, Dale Sebourn, Decatur, Ala.

Other survivors include four grandchildren, Nickolas Sebourn, Brandi Sebourn, Dayna Sebourn, and Lindsy Knox.

Pall bearers will be Paul Brown, Steve Roberson, David Cross, Mick Sebourn, Dennis Evans and Terry Jordan.

Honorary bearers will be Jerry Doshier, Don Strayhorn, Wally Cowan, Ralph Cherry, Troy Welch, Harry Thomas, Charlie Evans, Jim Cotterman and Mark McCown.

The family asked that memorials be made to Hospice of Shawnee Regional Hospital.

Virgil Shannon

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Virgil Shannon, 73, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Tecumseh Assembly of God Church.

Rev. Robert Rider will officiate the ceremony.

Burial will be at Denny Cemetery near Frances.

Shannon died Tuesday in Oklahoma City.

He was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Steedman to Thomas Patrick and Bertie Edith (Wilson) Shannon. He attended school in Frisco and Stonewall.

A retired truck driver, Shannon was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Tecumseh.

Shannon married Betty J. McNeill on April 19, 1971 in Seminole. She survives him of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers.

Other survivors include three daughters, Jimmie Lou Branch, Eufaula, Linda Sue Robbins, Norman, and Paula Marie Whitlock; two sisters, Vera Philpott, Ada and Violet Muse of the home; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Jessie Jewel Minick Sing

Funeral services for Jessie Jewel Minick Sing, 94, are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Rev. Jim Waller will officiate.

Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

A lifelong Seminole resident, she died Friday at Seminole Municipal Hospital.

Sing was born March 5, 1903 in Henryetta (I.T.) to Jesse J. Vulgamore and Isabella (Magruder) Vulgamore.

She came to Seminole in 1916.

In 1958 she married Elmer Sing in Seminole. He preceded her in death in 1969.

Sing was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, brothers and one son, Leo Minick in 1990.

A long-time homemaker and farmer, she was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Birdie Fay McAnelly, Edmond, Kay Smith, Canyon Lake, Texas and Eveline Ware, Seminole; one step-son, Kenneth Sing, Kansas City, Mo., eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Phillips, Glen Minick, Gene McGinnis, Bob Highbarger, Roy Waller, Robert Lofton and Larry Vulgamore.

Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Gibson and W. A. Lankford.
