Funeral services for former St. Louis-Maud area resident Samuel D. Bailey, 71, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Harrah United Methodist Church.
Bailey died Wednesday, May 12, 1999 at his home in Harrah.
He was born May 19, 1927 in Dayton, Iowa to David S. and Lillian Mae (Dutcher) Bailey.
A veteran, he served in the US Navy.
Bailey worked for St. Louis Schools as a maintenance engineer, and also as a carpenter.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Mark Bailey and Steven Bailey; two sisters, Charlene Donahe and Sally Sigler; and one brother David E. Bailey.
Survivors include one daughter, Rochelle Wagoner, Guthrie; one son, Mike Bailey; three brothers, Darrell Bailey, Missouri, Larry Bailey, South Dakota and Gerald Bailey, Washington; two sisters, Rosie Shipman, Washington, Dolores Kinkaid, Illinois; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Dorothy Baker
Funeral services for Seminole resident Dorothy Jean (Whisenhunt) Baker, 65, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Seminole.
Dr. Kelvin Moseley is set to officiate. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Baker died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999 at the Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
She was born July 19, 1934 in Alichi to Millard Kirby Whisenhunt and Francis Victoria (Shields) Whisenhunt.
On Oct. 4, 1955 she married Pat Baker in Grandfield; he survives her of the home.
Baker was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Hoyt, Carl and Clayl Whisenhunt.
Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Teresa Baker, Meeker; three daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Joe Elmore, Karrie and Kelly Joplin and Carla and Mickey Sebourn, all of Seminole; a brother, Coy Whisenhunt, Clebet; five sisters, Opal Davis, Battiest, Hazel Martin, Pickens, Reva Lincicome, Shawnee and Mabel Humphries and Dutch Meeks, both of Calif.
Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Sara Elmore, Patrick Elmore, Lori Elmore, Kirby Elmore, Gordan Elmore, Amy Elmore, Shawna Bennet, Cody Bennet, Laresa Baker, Kacie Baker, Dusty Joplin, Stormy Joplin, Logan Joplin and Skyeler Sebourn.
Baker’s grandchildren will serve as honorary casket bearers.
Laurene Baker
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Laurene Baker, 78, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel.
Rev. David Karges will officiate at the service. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Baker died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999 at a Shawnee hospital.
She was born Feb. 6, 1921 in Emporia, Kan., to Floyd Faylor and Helen (Mays) Osborn.
A homemaker, Baker lived in Seminole and Shawnee for most of her life and was of the Baptist faith.
She married Jack Baker on Oct. 11, 1941 in Seminole. He survives her of the home.
Baker was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Luther Osborn.
Other survivors include one son, Jerry Baker, West Minister, Colo.; one son, Donna Conner, Seminole; one half sister, Betty Gray, Florence, Miss.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Sharon Balentine
Funeral services for Seminole native Sharon Kay Balentine, 44, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at South Rock Creek Assembly of God Church.
Doby Williams will officiate at the service. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, Shawnee.
Balentine died Monday, April 26, 1999 at a Shawnee hospital.
She was born July 19, 1954 in Seminole to Carl and Bertha Worley.
Balentine attended Shawnee schools, and was a member of South Rock Creek Assembly of God Church and the Omega Alpha Ministry.
She was married to Arvil Balentine on Sept. 3, 1986 in Gainesville, Texas. He survives her of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Nick Hopkins, DuPont, Mich. And Shane Balentine, Shawnee; four daughters, Lori Payne, Tecumseh, Misty Herrera and Rachel McHolland, both of Oklahoma City, and April Balentine, Shawnee; her parents, and nine grandchildren.
Kathryn Barber
Funeral mass for Kathryn Reese Barber is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Father Basil Keenan will officiate. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Mrs. Barber died Monday morning at her home following a lengthy illness. She was 83.
Born Jan. 31, 1916 in Cisne, Ill. To Homer and Laura (Simmons) Rhoades, she was the third of six daughters.
On Sept. 1, 1933, she married Linden Reese in Salem, Ill. After his death on Jan. 17, 1970, she moved from Flora, Ill. to Seminole, where she worked in retail sales.
She married T.M. "Pete" Barber on Jan. 2, 1978. He preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1990.
Mrs. Barber was a co-owner of Shady Rest Antiques with her daughter.
She was a former longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star and had served the Salem, Ill., chapter as Worthy Matron.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church here.
Survivors include two sons, James E. Reese, Herndon, Va., and Michael Reese, Joplin, Mo.; one daughter, Shirley Nichols, Seminole; one sister, Mildred Venable, Flora, Ill.; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchild-ren.
Pallbearers are listed as Bob Davis, George Higdon, Jack Leonard, Donald Lester, David McKinney and Richard Wood.
Alternate pallbearer is Gerald McGuire.
Georgia Barnard
SHAWNEE - Graveside services for Georgia (McInturff) Barnard, mother of Seminole resident Barbara Davis, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Barnard died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999 at an Oklahoma City hospital.
She was born Nov. 19, 1922 in Shawnee to Garner Shawn and Mollie (Sturdavan) Shawn.
A homemaker, she was a lifelong resident of Shawnee.
She was married to Monroe McInturff; he preceded her in death.
The then married Otis Barnard in 1970; he preceded her in death in 1976.
Barnard was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother; one sister; two sons, Geral and Charles; and three grandchildren.
Survivors include four sons, Tommy McInturff, Larry McInturff and Phillip McInturff, all of Shawnee, and Steven McInturff, Mansfield, Texas; five daughters, Betty Gober, Shawnee, Barbara Davis, Seminole, Pat Mount, Oklahoma City, Mary Hastings, Shawnee, and Carol Hurst, Oklahoma City; one brother, Jacky Shawn, Purcell; one sister, Betty Cox, Tecumseh; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Clinton Bassett
MAUD - Graveside funeral services for Clinton William Bassett, 29, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Konawa.
Father Matthew Brown, OSB, will officiate. Burial will be under the direction of Knight Funeral Home.
A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Bassett died Friday at his home in Maud.
He was born July 28, 1970, in Guthrie to Robert "Bob" William and Alice Carolyn (McCraw) Bassett.
He lived most of his life in the Maud area, where he was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He graduated from Maud High School in 1988, and was a graduate of the Oklahoma Broadcasting School.
Survivors include his parents, Bob and Carolyn Bassett, Maud; his paternal grandparents, Bill and Tawana Bassett of Cashion; and his brother, Alan Bassett, Maud.
Bassett was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Ed and Laura McCraw.
Pallbearers will include Junior England, Paul Williams, Lance Heffley, Greg Pierce, Royce McGill and Wendall Darnell.
Alvin Bateman Jr.
Memorial services for Konawa resident Alvin Bateman Jr., 72, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Rev. Pam Shirk will officiate at the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home, Konawa.
Bateman died Friday, March 26, 1999 in Ada.
He was born Nov. 12, 1926 in Oklahoma City to Bertha and Alvin Bateman Sr.
He worked as a plumber and owned and operated the A.M. Bateman Plumbing Company from 1932 to 1975.
Bateman served in the Army during World War II. He was a Sunday school teacher, and for the past 25 years lived in the Konawa area.
He was a member of Konawa Masonic Lodge..
He married Thelma Jean Wano in Ft. Smith Ark. on Oct. 3, 1950. She preceded him in death on July 14, 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Steven Bateman, Santa Rosa, Calif., and Larry Bateman, Oklahoma City; one daughter, Norma Gaut, Konawa; one brother, Donald Bateman, Monroe, Mich.; one sister, Eva McKinley, Oklahoma City; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
