Verda L. Graham, 87, longtime resident of Hughes and Seminole Counties, died March 10, 1999 in Oklahoma City.
She was born in the Ashland community, near Stuart, in October of 1911, one of nine children of Milton and Sarah Bland.
Graham graduated high school in 1930 from Stuart as Valedictorian of her class. In 1944, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodson (W.W.) Graham, a longtime Oklahoma educator.
During their 63 years of marriage, they lived in Ada, Calvin, Paoli, Washington, Holdenville, Seminole and Owasso.
She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Seminole, and also the Order of the Eastern Star in Calvin, where she served as Worthy Matron, and in Seminole where she served as secretary and other offices.
Graham is survived by one sister, Wilma Pauline Peters, Memphis, Mo.; and one brother, Corbin Bland, Calvin.
She was also survived by her four children and their spouses, Helen and Jack Boren, Oklahoma City, John (J.R.) and Maria Graham, San Antonio, Texas, Charlotte and Phillip Barnes, El Lago, Texas, and Verdonna and Jack Timmons, Tulsa.
She had eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation and viewing beginning at 8 a.m.
Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family requests that donations be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, Oklahoma City, or the American Cancer Society.

Madison Grandstaff
Private family services are planned for Madison Paige Grandstaff, Seminole, infant daughter of Steve and Sonya Jill Grandstaff.
The baby was stillborn March 7, 1999 at Deaconess Hospital, Oklahoma City.
Grandstaff was preceeded in death by her grandfather, Rex Hughes in 1986.
Survivors include a brother, Tyler, of the home; grandparents Kagle and Nora Grandstaff, Seminole; James and Beth Gentry, Wewoka; great-grandmother Lenora Ring, Shawnee; great-grandparents Lloyd and Martha Hughes, Seminole; and a host of aunts and uncles.

Son Grant
Funeral services for Sasakwa resident Cornelius James "Son" Grant, 76, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Philemon Baptist Church.
Dr. C.R. Hill will officiate at the services. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home, Ada.
Grant died Monday, July 5, 1999 at Holdenville General Hospital.
He was born Dec. 24, 1922 in Ada to John Grant and Ida Daniels.
A veteran, Grant served in the US Army during World War II, and was a custodian for the California National Guard until his retirement in 1982.
Grant returned to the Sasakwa area after his retirement.
He married Amanda Williams on June 18, 1949 in Ada. She survives him of the home.
Grant was preceded in death by one daughter, Charlene.
Other survivors include six daughters, Sandra Grant, Midwest City, Ida Gomez, Carpenteria, Calif., Susan Grant, Ada, Doris Grant, Los Angeles, Mary Grant, Midwest City, and Jackie Grant, Sasakwa; and two sons, Gregory James Grant, Sasakwa, and Charles Mitchell Grant, Konawa.
Also surviving him are one brother, Walter Grant, Ada; one sister, Julia Coleman, Carpenteria; 36 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are listed as Cornelius Hamburger, Marlon Calahan, Ducate Gross, Anthony Conley, Mac Ladd, Tony Conley, David Thompson, Amari White, David Douglas, Wallace Thurman, Perry Brown and Allen Bailey.

Maxine Graves
On August 9, 1999, the Lord called our Mother home. A mother who gave unselfishly of herself, who gave of her time and talents at church and nursing homes playing the piano. She loved to bless others with her music.
Most of all, Mother loved her family. She taught us the values of life and right from wrong.
She was our strength when we were weak. She led us through many battles, including the loss of our father and sister.
Mother’s greatest contribution to life was her ability to teach her family and others the love of Jesus Christ. Mother touched the lives of many people.
One of Mother’s highlights was being the first woman to ever be elected to the school board in Seminole County. She served for seven years at Bowlegs Schools.
Mother was a longtime beautician out of her home south of town.
Maxine Glenda Graves was born on July 9, 1927 at Sparks, Oklahoma to Hudson Powell and May Marietta (Hughes) Lee.
She met and married the love of her life, S.J. Graves. He preceded her in death July 29, 1996.
They were married 53 years. She and S.J. had three children: Sharon Kay Graves, who preceded her in death April 22, 1995; Bobbye Ramsey and her husband, Ken, of Seminole; and Pam Villines Day and her husband, Doye, of Muskogee.
She is also survived by one sister, Doris Watkins, of Seminole; five grandchildren, Bryan Lucas, Casey Lucas, Mike, Julie and Shelly Villines; and three great-grandchildren, Jordan and Baylee Lucas and Logann Villines.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Little Cemetery with Rev. Robert Thornbrough officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Casket bearers will be Ken Ramsey, Doye Day, Dewey Lee, Mike Villines and Tim Plowman.
Honorary bearers are Hank Schaffer, Ray Johnson, David Watkins, Eugena Lee, Allen Lee and Dean Debter.

Robert Gray Sr.
Funeral services for Robert Dale Gray Sr., 51, brother of a Seminole resident, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of Christ in Okemah.
Roger Thompson will officiate at the service. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.
Gray died Monday, June 14, 1999 at his home in Middletown, Md.
He was born April 12, 1948 in Okemah to Frankie H. "Bill" and Gladys L. (White) Gray.
A graduate of Okemah High School, Gray was a computer analyst for the federal government, and retired from the US Army after serving from 1968 to 1988.
He married Carley Lee Blankenship Oct. 7, 1966. She preceded him in death in 1978.
Gray then married Susan Peters Jan. 3, 1979 in Frederick, Md. She survives him of the home.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Other survivors include his mother, of Okemah; one son, Roger Dale Gray Jr., of the home; daughters Kelli Quinn, Hawaii and Joni Gray, Middletown, Md.; one brother, John Gray, Seminole; sisters Ellen Ward, Sand Springs and Ann Johnson, Glenpool; and three grandchildren.

Elder Mitchell Grayson
Funeral services for former longtime Wewoka resident Elder Mitchell G. Grayson, 89, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Macedonia Baptist Church in Wewoka.
Elder B.E. Wallace of the Spencer Church of God in Christ will officiate at the service. Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary.
Grayson died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999 at the Edward Redeemed Nursing Home in Oklahoma City.
He was born Jan. 10, 1910 in Eufaula.
Grayson was employed with Kisler Bakery, from which he retired.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elbert and Eddie Grayson; and one sister, Anna.
Survivors include one daughter, Rosetta Grayson, Oklahoma City; one son, Emmit Grayson Sr., Oklahoma City; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are listed as Clyde Spencer, Wesley Thomas, David Carolina, Jimmy Lee Thomas, Johnny Gloston and James Washington.
Honorary bearers include Clyde Jdames, R.D. Murray, Eddie Smith and Haywood Griffis.

Homer Green
Funeral services for Konawa resident Homer H. Green, 91, were held today at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel, Shawnee.
Rev. Don Brown officiated at the service. Burial followed at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker.
Green died Wednesday, June 9, 1999 at a Shawnee hospital.
He was born July 1, 1907 in Meeker to George M. and Lillie M. (Boland) Green.
A retired dairy farmer, the lifelong Meeker resident was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He moved to Konawa due to failing health.
Green married Myrtle L. O’Neal on Jan. 25, 1928 in Tecumseh. She survives him of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Other survivors include two sons, Lloyd Green, Konawa, and Bill Green, Garland, Texas; two daughters, Bonnie Davenport, Earlsboro, and Faye Ann Ratcliff, Meeker; and one sister, Ruth Moucka.
