Lawrence Holmes

Graveside services for former Wewoka resident Lawrence Noel Holmes, 90, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.

Holmes died Thursday, April 15, 1999 at his home in Tecumseh.

He was born Jan. 19, 1909 in Noel, Mo. To C.A. and Sally (Lord) Holmes.

He grew up in the Okmulgee and Wewoka areas, and as a young man, worked in the dry cleaners, service station and oilfields.

Holmes retired from the dry cleaning business in 1971.

He moved to Tecumseh in Nov. 1987 and remained there until his death.

Holmes was married to Del Luree Ragon on June 20, 1986 in Wewoka. She survives him of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 12 brothers and sisters, and one granddaughter, Talea Ragon, on May 25, 1996.

Other survivors include one sister, Myrtle Hammer, Wewoka; stepchildren Steven Ragon, Norman, Carrye Wells, Tecumseh, Darren Ragon, Edmond and Garrick Ragon, Norman; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Herman Holt

Funeral services for Seminole resident Herman Holt, 97, are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel.

Rev. Henry Bell and Jake Cleaver of First United Methodist Church in Wewoka will officiate at the services. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Holt died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999 at Seminole Medical Center.

He was born July 18, 1902 in Warm Springs, Ark. to William Randolph and Flora Holt.

A veteran, he had served during World War I.

Holt worked in construction, which included working on the building of Sinclair Oil Company Gas Plants 12, 13 and 14.

He later became a construction engineer for various construction companies and he and his wife, Afton, traveled to many states until he retired in 1965 from the Dresser Engineering Company.

He married Afton Early on April 23, 1923 in Reno, Ark., and moved to Seminole in 1926.

Herman and Afton were both members of the Bowlegs First United Methodist Church, where Bell is also pastor, since 1934.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Afton, in 1990; one daughter, Reba Mace, in 1980; six brother and sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Bonita Anderson and her husband, Melvin, of Seminole; grandson, Glenn Newport and his wife, June, Pine Bluff, Ark.; granddaughter Cathey Walker, Gainesville, Texas; granddaughter Marilyn Smith and her husband, Ron, Spring, Texas; grandson Clark Mace and his wife, Nicole, Houston; four great-grandchildren and many step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are listed as Glenn Newport, Jason Newport, David Horton, Billy Thompson, Duane Sharver and Jim Cook.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Bowlegs Methodist Church Treasurer, 720 Reid Street, Seminole.

Jack Hook

Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Jack Allen Hook, 53, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Little Cemetery.

Rev. Roy Robertson will officiate at the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Hook died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999 at Shawnee Regional Hospital.

He was born Sept. 14, 1946 in Seminole to A.W. "Pete" and Helen (Seaman) Hook.

A diesel mechanic, Hook was employed with Koch Oil Company.

He lived in Seminole for 21 years.

Hook was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include one son, Clinton S. Hook, Killeen, Texas; one daughter, Jackie Olden, Texas; two sisters, Glenna Shull and Karen Tunnell, both of Bowlegs; and two grandchildren.

Harriet Hopper

Funeral services for Maud resident Harriet C. (Brown) Rumbaugh Hopper, 59, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Church of Christ in Maud.

Frank Brewer will officiate at the services. Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery under the direction of Knight Funeral Home.

Hopper died Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at her home.

She was born June 23, 1978 in Point Pleasant, W. Va. to Helen Lois (Miller) and Paul Wesley Brown, Sr.

Hopper had lived in the Bay area of California since 1961, and moved to Oklahoma in 1978. She moved from Shawnee to Maud in 1996.

She had retired from Auntie Harriet’s Daycare after 20 years, and was the owner of Harriet’s Short Stop.

Hopper was also a homemaker and a nurse.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Maud.

She married John Leon Hopper on March 26, 1984 in Tecumseh. He survives her of the home.

Hopper was preceded in death by her first husband, James F. Rumbaugh Sr.; her parents; and two brothers, Paul and Dwight Brown.

Other survivors include one son, James F. Rumbaugh Jr., Maud; one daughter, Jennifer (Rumbaugh) Hopper, Tecumseh; two brothers, Daniel Brown, Pittsburg, Calif., and Mark Brown, Vallejo, Calif.; three sisters, Paullita Seabaugh, Oakland, Calif., Katharine Briley, Richmond, Calif., and Barbara Bueshel, Santa Rosa, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Herbert Horn

WEWOKA - Graveside funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident Herbert Sydney "Herb" Horn are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Holdenville Cemetery.

Harold McRay will officiate; burial is under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.

Horn died Friday at Holdenville General Hospital at the age of 94.

He was born Feb. 23, 1905, in Belleville, Ark., to A.G. and Alice (Joiner) Horn.

He was raised in the Yell County area and moved to Wewoka in 1945. He worked in the service station business until his retirement in 1971.

Horn married Ora Pearl Pickens on Oct. 31, 1931 in Yell County. She survives him of the home.

Other survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Linda Horn, Midwest City; two grandchildren, Robert Horn Jr. and Michelle Horn, both of Midwest City; one great-grandson, Daniel Foster, Midwest City; one brother-in-law and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pickens, Hot Springs, Ark; a sister-in-law, Lovie Dean, Holdenville; a cousin, Raymond and Nowasa Joiner, Holdenville; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Anson, Seminole; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

James Horne

Funeral services for Wewoka native James Robert "Bob" Horne, 66, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church, Holdenville.

Rev. Jim Parrish will officiate at the service. Interment will follow at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson Phillips Funeral Home.

Horne died Sunday, May 23, 1999 at his home in Holdenville.

He was born Dec. 17, 1932 in Wewoka to Harvey Raymond Horne and Clara Springer.

He graduated from Wewoka High School, then served in to US Navy from Oct. 1951 to Aug. 1953.

He was assigned to the USS Missouri BB 63 battleship during the Korean War.

Horne moved to California until 1988, when he retired from French American Bakery, when he returned to live in Holdenville.

He was a member of Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church, and was involved with many ministries, including Volunteers in Mission, Sunday School superintendent, and a member of the Administrative Board.

Horne also worked on various building and remodeling projects at the church.

In the community, he was active in the American Legion where he served as a Historian and Vice Commander.

He participated in the Community Theater production, "Inherit the Wind", in 1994.

Horne married Jo Ella Ball on April 25, 1953 in Holdenville. She survives him of the home.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Louise Horne Calkins.

Other survivors include three children, Phyllis Jane Lisle, La Mirada, Calif., Anita Jo Koop, Olathe, Kan., and Robert Raymond, Northwood, Iowa; one brother, John Leonard Horne, Monarch Beach, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Dr. Michael Houghton

Memorial services for Dr. Michael Allan Houghton, 54, are set for 11 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Wewoka.

Rev. Henry Bell will officiate at the services. Houghton’s remains will be cremated.

He died Monday, August 23, 1999, when the airplane he was piloting crashed north of Seminole.

According to his wife, Connie, witnesses to the crash said that the engine cut out, and forced the plane to land.

Houghton was born March 17, 1945 in Ranger, Texas to Johnny and CleoAnna Smith.

A 1963 graduate of Everman High School, Houghton began his residency in family medicine at the University of Oklahoma.

In January of 1985, he moved to Wewoka, where began his family practice at the Tri Cities Family Medical Clinic.

More recently, Houghton began helping at prisons in Oklahoma, performing medical duties at four prisons and at the new Tulsa jail.

Houghton, a pilot, was flying home from Tulsa when his plane crashed.

He was married to Connie Sue (York) Houghton, on Aug. 17, 1965. The couple celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary last week.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; his parents; one son, Chase Mark Houghton, Holdenville; one daughter, Spring Michael Houghton, New York; three brothers, Pat Houghton, Rod Houghton and Dr. Scott Houghton, all of Texas; and one sister, Marcia Hoedebeck, Texas.
