Dorthy Martin

Funeral services for Dorthy Martin, 88, sister of Seminole resident Troy Pittman, were held this morning at Dale Cemetery.

Rev. David Trammell officiated the service under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Martin died Wednesday, July 21, 1999 in Riverbank, Calif.

A native Oklahoman, she had lived in Shawnee for 40 years before moving to Modesto, Calif., in 1990.

Martin was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Shawnee, and attended the Foursquare Gospel Church in Modesto.

Survivors include one son, Thurmon Martin, Modesto; one daughter, Cozaey West, Riverbank, Calif.; one sister, Ollie Pittman, McLoud; two brothers, Troy Pittman, Seminole and Foy Pittman, Williston, N.D.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Grace Martin

Funeral services for Seminole native Grace Martin, 88, were held this morning at First Baptist Church in Paden.

Rev. Paul Cunningham officiated at the service, with Rev. Tom Tidwell assisting.

Burial followed at Paden Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Martin died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999 in Prague.

She was born Feb. 27, 1911 in Seminole County to James T. and Hattie M. (Hase) Gibson.

A lifelong resident of Paden, she was a homemaker and cooked for Paden Schools prior to working as a cook at Parkland Manor Nursing Home.

Martin retired in March, 1986.

She was married to Marshall Shelby Martin on Sept. 29, 1929; he preceded her in death in 1959.

Martin was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters and an infant son.

Survivors include two sons, Shelby Martin Jr., Bethany, and Dwight Martin, Denison, Texas; three daughters, Melba Jo Hamilton, Houston, LaVerne Wiginton and Carol Harless, both of Paden; one brother, Ed Gibson, Chandler, one sister, Mary Ahsmuhs, Walla Walla Wash.; 13 grandchildren 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Jessie Martin

Memorial services for Seminole resident Jessie Calvin Martin, 67, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate at the service.

Martin died Saturday, May 22, 1999 at Seminole Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 28, 1932 in Barren, Ark. to Willie and Pollie (Corbett) Martin.

A veteran, he served in the US Army from May 1952 through April 1954.

Martin worked as a Union Iron Worker until his retirement 10 years ago, and moved to Seminole eight years ago from Bakersfield, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Daniel Calvin Martin in 1977.

Survivors include five sons, David L. Martin, Oklahoma, Jesse R. Martin, Iowa, Terry W. Martin, Arizona, Kevin W. Martin, Oklahoma and Jessie C. Martin Jr., California; two daughters, Tina D. Harrington, Missouri and Kimberly O’Connell, California; one brother, Thurman Martin, Arizona; two sisters, Essie Norman, New Mexico and Audrey Phillips, Arizona; and 19 grandchildren.

Maxine Massey

Graveside services for Maud resident Maxine Unice (Gilliam) Massey, 80, are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Rossville Cemetery, four miles north of SH 62 and US 177 intersection..

Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate at the service. Burial will under the direction of Knight Funeral Home, Maud.

Massey died Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at the Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City.

She was born on Jan. 2, 1919 in Blackwater, Va. James Gilliam and Martha Jane (Roller) Gilliam.

Massey graduated from chandler High School in 1938. She was an electronic assembly person for Ultrox in Grand Junction, Colo. Until she retired and moved to Maud in 1988.

Massey was also preceded in death by parents, three brothers and two sister and her former husband, Ernest George Massey on Dec. 31, 1995.

Survivors include three sons, Mike Massey, Ken Massey, Maud and Joe Massey, Sheridan, Mont.; two daughters, Alice Peavler, St. Louis and Patricia Unger, Fountain Valley, Calif.,; one brother, Harold Gilliam, Chandler, two sisters, Ann Cook, Silver City, N.M. and Eula Vennarucci, South San Francisco, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis Massey

Funeral services for Phyllis R. Massey, 48, stepmother of Seminole resident Amanda Halley, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Parks Brother Funeral Home of Okemah.

Pat Mannon and Bobby Massey will officiate at the service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Massey died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

She was born Nov. 30, 1951 in Victorville, Calif. to Charles and Lula Marie (Usher) Kline.

A volunteer fundraiser for American Cancer Society and Muscular Dystrophy, she had worked for he Homeland Corporation for 23 years.

Massey moved to Okemah in 1971, and was a member of the Midway Church of Christ in Paden.

She married Virgle Bryan Massey on March 29, 1989 in Miami. He survives her of the home.

Massey was preceded in death by her father.

Other survivors include her mother, of Okemah; one son, Bennie Leybas III, Muskogee; three stepsons, Randy Massey, Henryetta, Virgle Massey Jr., Welch, and Mickey Massey, Okemah; two stepdaughters, Rosemary Howell, Westville, and Amanda Halley, Seminole; two brothers, Rocky Charles Kline and Johnny Kline, both of Muskogee; two sisters, Pauline McMullen, McAlester and Pam Roper, Wilson; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Helen Mattingly

Memorial services for Helen Marie Mattingly, 83, mother of a Seminole resident, are scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday at Moore’s Southlawn Chapel.

Mattingly died Monday, June 28, 1999.

She was born Dec. 1, 1915 in Fort Scott, Kan., to William Ray and Loena (Smith) Kyner.

Reared in Tulsa, she graduated from Central High School in 1931.

Mattingly retired in 1983 from the Farmers Home Administration after 26 years of service.

She had lived in Kansas until 1951, when she relocated to Roswell, N.M. She moved back to Tulsa in 1994.

She was married to Austin Landis Mattingly in May of 1935. He preceded her in death in July, 1982.

Survivors include her children, Shirley Cox, Houston, Texas, Judy Deem, Tulsa, Sharon Baldwin, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Jack Mattingly, Seminole; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the Church of Christ, on the corner of Park and Seminole in Seminole.

Alpha McBeth

Graveside services for Alpha McBeth, 69, former Seminole County resident, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Rev. Robert Ingram will officiate at the services. Burial arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

McBeth died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999 at a Shawnee hospital.

She was born Aug. 29, 1929 to John and Al Goma (Stevens) Dodson.

McBeth was raised in Cromwell and had lived in Shawnee for the past 12 years.

She was a member of the Church of the Living God.

She was married to Robert E. Lee McBeth.

McBeth was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Junior Lee McBeth; and one brother, A.J. Dodson.

Survivors include two daughters, Nola McBeth, Shawnee, and Mary Barker, Riverdale, Ga.; three sisters, Irene Churchwell, Shawnee, Lois Brown, Phoenix, Ariz., and Jewel Wallace, Surprise, Ariz.; eight brothers, Bill Dodson, Seminole, Billy Dodson, Boyce Dodson and Jamie Dodson, all of Cromwell, Bobby Dodson and Archie Dodson, both of Phoenix, Ariz., Johnny Dodson, Eufaula, and Edward Dodson, Checotah.

Other survivors include six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Maxine McBride

Memorial services for Maxine McBride, 73, mother of a Seminole resident, were held Monday at Porter Loring Mortuary North East San Antonio, Texas.

McBride died Friday, May 28, 1999 in Texas.

Survivors include her husband, Sandy A. McBride, Port Aransas, Texas; three daughters, Carie Tucker, Seminole, Maureen Bures, Fort Myers, Fla., and Sandra Guenther, San Antonio; one brother, Douglas Peterson, St. Petersburg, Fla.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family has suggested that expressions of sympathy be made to the American Cancer Society, San Antonio Metro, PO Box 291048, San Antonio, Texas, 78200-1048

Freeda McClure

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Freeda "Dube" Laverne McClure, 85, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home.

Slim Crabtree will officiate at the service. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee.

McClure died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1999 at Shawnee Regional Hospital.

She was born Feb. 20, 1913 in Konawa to Homer Knappenberger and Carrie Burch.

An Avon representative, McClure also worked in a garment factory in Wewoka in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s.

A Baptist, she grew up in Earlsboro and graduated school there before moving to Seminole.

She was married to Haskell McClure; he preceded her in death in December, 1984.

McClure was also preceded in death by one son, Clay McClure, in 1994.

Survivors include one son, Chub McClure, Seminole; three daughters, C.J. Brasier and her husband, Cliff, Seminole, Geri Verldine Huston, Shawnee, and Shay Maxwell and her husband, Charles, of Seminole.

Also surviving her is one sister, Arline Bell, Shawnee; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers are listed as Red. Gamble, Willard Conner, Johnny Brinsfield, Leon Prince, John King Burton and Robert Treat.
