STRATFORD - Funeral services for Jessie Lee "Jess" Wood, 88, father of a Seminole resident, were held today at Pickard Funeral Home Chapel.
Rev. Lewis Perry officiated at the services. Burial followed at McGee Cemetery.
Wood died Saturday, June 19, 1999 in Ada.
He was born Jan. 9, 1911 in McGee to Charlie and Dora Wood.
A lifelong Stratford resident, he was a farmer, rancher and Garvin County hand for 13 years.
Wood was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Stratford Masonic Lodge.
He married Freda Southard Sept. 27, 1934 in Stratford. She survives him of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Judy McCurley, Sand Springs, and Jane Magar, Stratford; two sons, Larry "Dink" Wood, Stratford and Allen Wood, Seminole; two sisters, Polly Robinson, Tishomingo, and Clara Simpson, Ponca City; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers were Gary Wood, Greg Wood, Roger Cosby, Donald Cosby, Donnie Cothren and O.A. Savage.
Louis ‘Shag’ Wood
Funeral services for Konawa resident Louis "Shag" Wood, 88, great-grandson of Seminole Nation leader John Jumper, are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday at Akasvmkv Baptist Church.
Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.
Wood died Thursday, April 22m 1999 at Seminole Medical Center hospital.
He was born April 9, 1911 in Konawa to Emmit and Sissy (Marks) Wood.
A veteran, he served in the US Army and was stationed in the Philippines.
Wood had lived and worked in Clovis, N.M. for a time before returning to the area.
He worked as a farmer and rancher, was raised in the Konawa area.
Wood was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Winey (Powell) Wood; his second wife, Velma (Bailey) Wood; one daughter, Mary Francis (Wood) Jim; five brothers, John Wood, Jimmie Wood, Houston Wood, Doxie Wood and Fred Wood; and four sisters, Easter Mae, Lillie, Lorene and Tootsie; and four grandchildren.
Survivors include one brother, Arthur Fenton, Oklahoma City; one sister, Susie (Wood) Harjo, Wolf; six grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Delmer Loyd Wood
Funeral services are scheduled for former longtime Seminole resident Delmer Loyd Wood, 81, at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Swearingen Funeral Chapel.
Interment follows at the Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Rev. Jim White is set to officiate over the proceedings.
Wood died Sunday Jan.3, 1999 at Norman Regional Hospital.
He was born Feb. 3, 1917 in Lawrenceville, Ill. to Aimee (Bailey) and Harvey Britton Wood.
He married Neva Irene (Dillon) Wood Dec. 24, 1936 in Seminole.
Wood retired as a professional oilfield worker and was an Army veteran. He was a member of Capitol Hill Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by both parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Wood is survived by his wife of the home; four sons Gerald L. Wood of Mena, Ark, Darrell W. Wood of Cedar Hill, Texas, Charles D. Wood of Moore and Donald E. Wood of Perrysburg, Ohio; two brothers, Leslie Wood of Plano, Texas and Roger Wood of Tulsa; one sister, Martha Lyle of Midland, Texas; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers are Chris Anderson; David, Jon, Brian, Jason and Christian Wood, Chad Williamson, Greg Keeter and Tim Smith.
Ronald Yandell
Graveside services for former Seminole resident Ronald Yandell, 72, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery.
Rev. David Karges will officiate at the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Mills Funeral Home.
Yandell died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999 at McAlester Regional Hospital.
He was born Nov. 14, 1926 in Holdenville to Grady and Vervie (Crow) Yandell.
While in Seminole, he attended First United Methodist Church.
Yandell graduated from Cushing High School, then worked for Hammerhill Paper Mill for 20 years, then Federal Barge Lines for 20 years.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines.
He had moved from Seminole to live in Stuart.
Yandell was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Survivors include three sons, Ronnie Lee Yandell, Mt. Pocono, Penn., Lyle Yandell, Jersey Shore, Penn., and David Yandell, Mill Hall, Penn.; two daughters, Kathryn Armstrong and Susan Campbell, both of Hayden, Ala.
Also surviving him are one brother, Gloyd Yandell, Midwest City; three sisters, Ramona Brecht, Sapulpa, Wilma Rueb, Yukon, and Phyllis Yandell, Oklahoma City; and seven grandchildren.
Erik Yarbrough
Funeral services for Erik Yarbrough, 16, brother of Seminole resident Natalie Harjo-Deere and grandson of Konawa resident Sue Givens, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Spring Baptist Church in Sasakwa.
Legus Harjo will officiate at the service. Interment will follow at the Cully family cemetery in Vamoosa under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.
Wake services were held Tuesday at Stout Chapel, then he was taken to the church at 4 p.m. today for the 7 p.m. Wake service at the church.
Yarbrough died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999 in an automobile accident five miles east of Seminole on SH 9.
He was born June 9, 1983 in Ada to Anna Jones.
Yarbrough attended McLoud Public Schools for seven years, and more recently attended Shawnee Schools.
He was employed with Van’s Pig Stand in Shawnee.
Yarbrough was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Tema Cully and Wisey Lowe Cully.
Survivors include his parents, both of McLoud; one brother, Marc Yarbrough, McLoud; three sisters, Deidre Yarbrough, McLoud, Natalie Harjo-Deere, Seminole, and Eugenia Rai Givens, Byng; grandparents James Given and Mary Jo Williams, both of Eufaula, and Sue Givens, Konawa; and his girlfriend, Dana Murray, Shawnee.
Pallbearers are listed as Marc Yarbrough, Robert Hightower, Josh Wallace, Kevin Givens, Greg Buck and Ricky Nenaikita.
Honorary pallbearers include Harper Givens, Jonas Walker, James Yarbrough, Nathaniel Harjo and Russel Gelino.
Roy Young
Memorial services for former Maud and Seminole resident Roy Jack Young, 85, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Rev. Janie Kirt Morris and Dr. Kelvin Moseley will officiate at the service.
Young died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999 at his Shawnee home.
He was born Aug. 8, 1913 in Pauls Valley to William Newton and Victoria (Villines) Young.
Young attended Maud schools and worked as an oil jobber with Cities Service Oil Co. for 15 years and then worked for Vickers Oil Co.
In 1965, he formed Young Oil Co., which later became Young Distributing Inc.
Young was a charter member in the Maud Round-Up Club. He helped build the rodeo arena and served as president and secretary.
He was also involved in the creation of "Teen Town" in Maud during the 1950s.
He was entertainment director for the 614th Engr. Base Equipment Company during World War II.
Young was a staff sergeant and received the Army of Occupation Medal, Germany, and the Victory Ribbon.
He also received the Good Conduct Medal in the United States Forces during the European Theater, and was honorably discharged July 11, 1946.
Young was a member of the Baptist Temple Church, Oklahoma City, for 23 years and served as church treasurer for 12 years.
He married Gladyce Christine Martin in Seminole in 1934. She survives him of the home.
Young was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ben and Walter Young, and two sisters, Gladys Irwin and Lora Jenkins.
Other survivors include one daughter, Jacqueline Roberts, Shawnee; one son, Steve Young, Moore; one sister, Pauline Sleeper Dorsey, Wayne; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Shawnee.
Carolyn Zoblotsky
Word was received of the death of former Seminole businesswoman Carolyn (Brooks) Zoblotsky, 84, of Oklahoma City.
Zoblotsky died Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at her home. She was born Feb. 27, 1915 in Houston, Texas.
A Seminole resident for many years, she had owned shoe stores in Seminole, Norman and Oklahoma City, and she continued to stay active in retail shoes until her death.
Zoblotsky was active in civic affairs, and volunteered her time helping to teach deaf children.
She was married to Jack Zoblotsky. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children, Rita Ritsgeral and Robert Zoblotsky; brothers and sisters, Florence Bettin and Harry Brooks; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
The family has suggested that expressions of sympathy may be made to the Discretionary Fund and Temple B’hai Israel or the American Heart Association.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hahn-Cook, Street and Draper, Oklahoma City.
