Warren Francis Schroeder

Gone is a man who was loved and respected by many. A quiet man who was never boastful, never prideful, and always ready to lend a hand to those who reached out.

Services for longtime Seminole resident Warren Francis Schroeder, 79, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Fr. Basil M. Keenan officiating the services.

A Marine Honor Guard will salute Officer Warren Francis Schroeder during graveside services at Resthaven Memorial Cemetery, Seminole, following the chapel services, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Schroeder was born April 14, 1919 in Brooklyn, New York, to Fred and Ruth (Maher) Schroeder.

He died April 12, 1999 at his home in Seminole, in the arms of his bride.

On December 24, 1954 Schroeder proposed to Margaret Ruth Evans in front of a picturesque window overlooking Pearl Harbor in Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii. On April 14, 1955 in Honolulu, Hawaii at the First Christian Church, he took Margaret as his bride, lifelong mate, best friend and confidant.

Schroeder said, "she was the best birthday present I will ever get." She survives him of the home.

A true, blue American with much respect for his country, he served in the United States Marine Corps from July 5, 1938 to August 1, 1961 before retiring as Chief Warrant Officer (Marine Gunner).

Schroeder received a medal from the emperor of China, Chiang Kia Shek, for outstanding services while stationed in China.

Schroeder stood by the American dream in his own life. He worked hard and supported his family, as well as his extended family at times.

He enjoyed flying, fishing, especially with his granddaughter, Jennifer, whom he said was the "best little fishing buddy a fella could have," collecting guns, scuba diving, swimming, hunting and reading.

Schroeder reared his son, Fred, along with numerous other Seminole boys while in their Cub Scout and Boy Scout training. He gave them a piece of the American dream to start their lives with.

Always the one to go the extra mile and stay up the extra hours, Schroeder was a great teacher to the young men. He continued the troop meetings and training lessons beyond the times that Fred was involved.

A man ready to serve his community as well as he served his country, Schroeder, was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Seminole Police Department.

He served as both an active duty Seminole police officer and Seminole Auxiliary Police Officer. He was formerly Chief of the Seminole Auxiliary Police.

Schroeder was also a Seminole County reserve officer. His law enforcement career spanned more than 25 years.

He was a member of the Seminole Civil Defense since 1963. A "storm tracker," he trained others in the skills that came naturally to him.

Those who know Schroeder, knew him best as "Seminole 14," his call name on the emergency frequencies, and later as "Seminole 26." He helped train some of our current officers on the Seminole Police Department today.

Schroeder was a member of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce, Oklahoma Reserve Law Offices Association, Boy Scouts of America, IAPES, and National Rifle Association.

Schroeder came to Seminole in October 1961 and began work with the Oklahoma State Employment Office in March 1962. Here he worked until his retirement in July 1985.

His parents and one sister, Madeline Waters, preceded him in death.

Schroeder has one son, Fred Joseph, who was one of his best friends in life; a daughter-in-law, Mona Lisa; and one granddaughter, Jennifer Leigh, whom he cherished and spoke often of as "the other light in my life." They reside in El Paso, Tex.

Other survivors include one sister, Harriet Forberger, North Bellmore, Long Island, N.Y.; two nephews, Warren Forberger and wife Ronnie, Babylon Village, N.Y. and Bobby Waters and wife Mary Ann, East Islip, N.Y.; two nieces, Claudia Lavounty, West Palm Beach, Fl. and Vicki Calcagna, Freeport, N.Y.; and Artie and Doris Schroeder, Newport Richey, Fl.

Pallbearers will be Chris Mills, Dave Bonebrake, Stu Phillips, Sam Laffoon, Terry Morris, Dave Anderson, Joe Branham and Lary Herdlitchka.

Honorary pallbearers are listed as Jim Schultz, Robert Dodson, Babe Adams, Herb Gunter, Mike Knowles, Tom Lemmings, Les Jones and Charles Sisco.

Schroeder will surely be missed. He has gone on to travel the road that many have traveled before, while a little of his love and goodness lingers within those who were fortunate to know him.

Scott died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999 at Holdenville General Hospital.

He was born Oct. 11, 1918 at Mounds to Bryant and Bertha (Holmes) Scott; both parents preceded him in death.

Scott was raised in the Wewoka area and attended and graduated from the Wewoka schools.

After graduation, Scott worked in Wewoka for a number of years before marrying Lorraine Estelle Hubbard; she preceded him in death in 1993.

They lived in Wewoka for several years before moving to Illinois where he worked as a mechanic.
