OKLAHOMA CITY -Funeral services for Seminole native Bernice May Neeley are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at South Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens under the direction of Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary. Nelley died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001 in Kalamazoo, Mich., at the age of 85. She was born July 31, 1916, in Seminole to Joe and Lizzie (Roberts) Brown. She owned a home-building business and was a member of Draper Park Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sterling, and son Dwight. Survivors include one daughter, Maurine Williams, Kalamazoo; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Herman Hendrix
Funeral services for former Konawa resident Herman Odell Hendrix are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Holdenville. Rev. Nathan Durant will officiate. Burial will follow in Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Hendrix died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, in the Norman Veterans Center at the age of 76. He was born May 30, 1925, in McCurtain, to Lee and Jewel (Thompson) Hendrix. He was raised in Konawa and graduated from Konawa High School. He served in World War II until his discharge in 1946 at Fort Leavenworth, Kans. He was a millwright at the power plant and later owned and operated Herman’s Drive-In and Restaurant in Konawa. He was a member of the Penn West Baptist Church, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He married Betty Shed on April 26, 1947, in Wewoka; she survives him, of the home in Norman. Other survivors include his son, Tommy Hendrix, Moore; one grandson, two stepgranddaughters; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers will include Justin and Jason Collins, Marty Burns, Devon Brown, Bob Smith and David Shed. Honorary pallbearers will include Ray Burns, Jack Collins and members of the Joshua Sunday School Class.
Hazel Pruett
OKEMAH – Funeral services for former Cromwell resident Hazel Anna Pruett are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel. Bob Wingo is to officiate. Interment is to follow at Schoolton Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home. Pruett died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001 in Harrah at the age of 92. She was born Dec. 6, 1908 in Higgins, Texas to J.H. and Rene Roach. She married O.C. Pruett in Marshall, Ark. on Feb. 3, 1926. Pruett had been a resident of Cromwell for most of her life before moving to Harrah Nursing Center in 1995. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Cromwell and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Imo Gene Robinson; and one son. Jr. Pruett. Pruett is survived by one son, Dale Pruett of Choctaw; two sisters, Bernice Price and Edith Griffin both of Russellville, Ark.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Elvis Smith
PONCA CITY – Funeral services for Wewoka native Elvis E. Smith were scheduled for 10 a.m. this morning at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dr. Larry Night, pastor of Northeast Baptist Church was to officiate. Burial was to follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. Smith died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 82. He was born May 24, 1919 in Wewoka to Marshall and Ida (Campbell) Smith. He attended Wewoka High School and graduated in 1938. Smith joined the Oklahoma 45th Division National Guard in 1939 for one year. He was honorably discharged after serving during World War II. He served in the 45th field artillery in North Africa and in campaigns through Sicily, Italy, Anzio, France, and Germany. Smith’s division was the first to liberate the Dachua Concentration Camp. He came to Ponca City after the war and was employed by Continental Oil Company for 36 years. Most of his tenure was in the refinery warehouse. Smith married Jimmie E. Underwood on Oct. 22, 1949 in Ponca City. He recently participated in the local Veterans Day Parade. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., and the First Baptist Church of Ponca City. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Marshall M. Smith III and Manus L. Smith. He is survived by his wife, Jimmie of Ponca City; two daughters, Glynda Wilson of Ponca City and Marsha Smith of Miami, Fla.; one sister, Ollie Mae Graham of Bartlesville; two brothers, Jep Smith of Center Point, Texas and Robert Smith of Ponca City. Funeral services for Seminole resident Mattie Emma Price are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. David McDougal is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Price died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 87. She was born Feb. 14, 1914 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Jessie and Ada Emaline (Davis) Cavin. She married Sterling May Price in 1928 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1971. She was a tailor. Price was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Novella Rae and Wanita Ruth Price; two brothers; and three sisters. She is survived by one son, Bobby Lee Price of Graham, Texas; two daughters, Joann Tiger of Seminole, and Scheri Dubbs of Flinton, Penn.; one sister, Susie Ethel Powers of Abilene, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Cristie Jordan
Funeral services for Seminole resident Cristie Dawn Jordan are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Rev. Steve Cline is set to officiate. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Jordan died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 24. She was born Nov. 14, 1977 in Shawnee to Larry Alan and Vivian Jean (Troglin) Hinds. She married Carl Matthew Jordan on Dec. 31, 1996 in Seminole. Jordan was a homemaker. She was a member of Amazing Grace Pentecostal Holiness Church. She graduated from New Lima High School in 1996 and from Seminole State College with an Associates Degree in 2000. Jordan was preceded in death by her father on April 5, 1999 and her great-grandmother, Jessie Self on Oct. 27, 2001. She is survived by her mother of Seminole; her husband of the home; two daughters, Kaylee and Kaycee Jordan, both of the home; maternal grandmother, Lora Beach of Seminole; maternal grandfather, Charles Troglin of Seminole; paternal grandmother, Julie Hinds; and one brother, Danny Pennsiger of Seminole.
Juanita Bryant
Funeral services for Seminole resident Juanita Bryant are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at Church of Christ at Park and Seminole. Christ Stinnett is to officiate. Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Bryant died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 at her home in Seminole. She was born Nov. 17, 1907 in Eaton, Colo. to William T. and Daisy Edmiston. She married Homer Bryant on Oct. 27, 1929 in Seminole. Her preceded her in death in 1988. Bryant was a retired school teacher. She taught with the Seminole Public Schools as an elementary teacher for 23 years and was principal of Woodrow Wilson Elementary School for eight years. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Park and Seminole. Bryant was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Self Culture Club, and the American Association of University Women. She graduated from East Central University and received her Masters from the University of Oklahoma. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, L.N. Edmiston. Bryant is survived by two sons, James Bryant of Garland, Texas, and Gary Bryant of Hurst, Texas; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pat Moreland of Oklahoma City.

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Younger B. Carbitcher are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 at Carbitcher’s parent’s home south of Bowlegs. Rev. Dorsey Nero, Elder Kelly Tiger and Dave Bowlegs will officiate the services. Burial will follow at the Carbitcher Family Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Carbitcher passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001 at Valley View Hospital in Ada at the age of 33. He was born to Jimmy Carbitcher Jr., and Nancy Mae Deer in Talihina on March, 26, 1968. Carbitcher married Karen Anya Factor in Dec. 1996. He was employed with the Seminole Nation Development Authority in the maintenance department. Carbitcher was a member of the Middle Creek #2 Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Carbitcher Jr.; and Monroe Carbitcher. Carbitcher is survived by his mother, Nancy Mae Deer, Bowlegs; his wife, Karen Factor; four sons, Monroe, Jake, and Brandon Carbitcher, all of Konawa, and Jason Carbitcher, Seminole; three daughters, Michelle Burden, Wewoka, Tiffany Carbitcher, Konawa, and Elizabeth Carbitcher, Seminole; three brothers, Jimpsey Carbitcher, Dallas, Texas, Cooky Carbitcher, Seminole, and Rusty Carbitcher, Stroud; six sisters, Dora Hill, Seminole, Marion Brown, Bowlegs, Nettie Haney, Seminole, Pat Larney, Norman, Betty Wahweah, El Reno, and Marina Brown, Bowlegs. Sarah Bruner
ADA – Funeral services for Sarah L. Bruner, the sister of a Wewoka resident, are scheduled for noon Thursday at Reaper Baptist Church. Rev. L.R. Drinkwater is to officiate. Burial is to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home. Bruner died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001 at a local hospital at the age of 85. She was born April 8, 1916 in Stonewall to Frank and Agnes Dunford Cochran. She was a lifelong resident of the Ada area. Bruner attended Napier High School and was a homemaker. On June 25, 1938 she married Grant Bruner in Coalgate. She was a baptist and president of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Missionary Society. Bruner was also a member of the District Missionary Society, prayer committee, and treasurer and superintendent of Sunday school. She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Ivan Bruner. She is survived by three sons, Rev. Wilburn Bruner of Oklahoma City, Rev. Elmer Bruner of Memphis, Tenn. and Terry Bruner of Wewoka; two daughters, Mary Colbert of Dallas, Texas and Agnes Coleman of Calif.; two brothers, Rev. F.D. Cochran of Konawa, and T.C. Cochran of Stonewall; two sisters, Bertha Alexander of Tupelo and Brazelia Johnson of Stonewall; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Kenneth Dye
Graveside funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Kenneth David Dye are scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Rev. Roy Robertson is to officiate. Dye died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001 at University Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 44. He was born Nov. 5, 1957 in Seminole to Kenneth and Juania Faye (Lynch) Dye. He was a graduate of Varnum High School and a member of Assembly of God Church in Bowlegs. Dye was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Dale Dye. He is survived by his father and one brother, Keith Dye, both of Seminole.
William Sutton
Funeral services for fomer Seminole County resident William Sutton are scheduled for Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Mark Baptist Church. Burial is to follow at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary. Sutton died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2001 at Amberwood Nursing Home in Oklahoma City at the age of 79. He was born Dec. 21, 1921 to Dempsey Sutton and Rose Stepheny Cyrus. He was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church. Sutton retired from Trade Winds in Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by two sisters, Minnie Beavers of Oklahoma City and Elzora Sutton of Bakersfield, Calif.
Aaron Malone
Wewoka native Aaron Malone died Nov. 24, 2001 in Boley at the age of 58. He was cremated at Ray Franciso Crematory in Tulsa and buried at Westwood Cemetery on Dec. 5. He was born Jan. 8, 1943 in Wewoka to William and Henryetta Boone Malone. Malone was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by one brother, James Spencer of Long Beach, Calif. Services were under the direction of Myers Mortuary.
