Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Vesta Flanagan are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Flanagan died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001 at Shawnee Regional Hospital at the age of 81. She was born to George Homer Young and Cordelia (Mounce) Young on July 13, 1920 in Shawnee. She married Eugene Flanagan on Feb. 7, 1948 in Shawnee. Flanagan was employed at the Southwestern Bell business office in Seminole. She was also secretary for Newman Construction Company; and head bookeeper at Seminole State College until her retirement in 1975. Flanagan was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Seminole Flower Club and the Bridge Club, and loved crafts and sewing activities. Flanagan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Flanagan on Feb. 5, 1995; and one son, Jimmy Gene Flanagan in 1950. She is survived by two sons, Mike Flanagan and Pat Flanagan. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
Luther Mitchell
WILBURTON – Funeral services for former Seminole resident Luther Berry Mitchell are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wilburton High School Auditorium. Rev. Jim Mitchell is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Mt. Station Cemetery in Latimer County under the direction of Waldrop Funeral Home. Mitchell died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001 at the St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa at the age of 54. He was born Aug. 19, 1947 in McAlester to Fay L. and Gladys Carrigier Mitchell. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the United States Army. Mitchell married Linda Sparks on March 26, 1968 in Seminole County. He was currently employed with the Gorden Construction Company in Stigler. He was a member of Old Glory Church where he served as an Elder. Mitchell was a member of the Masonic Lodge #141. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mitchell is survived by his wife, of the home; three sons, Trevor Mitchell of Wilburton and Tyson and Luke Mitchell, both of Wilburton; one daughter, Udona Mitchell of Wilburton; two brothers, David Kuykendal of Hartshorne and James Mitchell of Wilburton; two sisters, Jackie Hennen of Seminole and Wanda Franklin of Wilburton; and six grandchildren. Pallbearers are Bud Bloxham, Luke Mitchell, Duane Wood, Bob Dunlap, Randy Thompson, and Bill Davis. Honorary pallbearers are employees of Gorden Contruction Company in Stiger, Gene Bullard, Gorman Price, Chris Carriger, and Jim Martin.
Harper L. Osborne Jr.
Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident Harper Lane Osborne Jr. is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Wewoka. Reverend C. L. Provost III, of Middlecreek Baptist Church, is set to officiate. Burial is planned to follow at Westwood Cemetery, under the direction of Myers Mortuary. Osborne died Monday, Dec. 3, at Midwest Regional Medical Center. He was 67. He was born on Oct. 21, 1934, in Sasakwa. Osborne was a member of Middlecreek Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Oklahoma City. He retired from Scott’s Chevrolet in Oklahoma City. Osborne is survived by his wife Ardelia Osborne, of the home. Other survivors include his daughters Mildered Payton, Oklahoma City, and Kathy Osborne, Wewoka; sons Jim, Michael and Orlando Osborne, all of Shawnee; brothers Harry Osborne, Spencer, Morris Osborne, Oklahoma City, and William Osborne, San Jose, Calif.; sisters Maxine Osborne, Sasakwa, and Elzora Osborne, Oklahoma City; and 10 grandchildren. Osborne was preceded in death by his parents, Harper L. Osborne Sr. and Lucy Davis Osborne; his son Maurice Osborne; and his sister Irene Liddell.
Dallas Parker
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Dallas R. Parker are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ in Wewoka. Rev. Wallace Doe McRay will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Parker died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at Holdenville General Hospital at the age of 91. He was born June 25, 1910 in Flippin, Ark., to E.B. and Winnie (Sanders) Parker. He lived in Bearden, Butner, Duncan, Ardmore and Cherokee before moving to Wewoka in 1975. He retired as production foreman for Conoco and spent time as a farmer. Parker was a member of the Church of Christ. He married Anna Jones on Oct. 12, 1935; she survives him, of the home. Other survivors include their son, Dwight Parker, Grandfield; two daughters, LaDean Morgan and Elaine Chaffin, both of Wewoka; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Hairl Parker, Barnsdall; Covert Parker, Borger, Texas; Jack Parker, Bethany; E.B. Parker, Grants Pass, Ore.; George Parker, Wewoka; Myrt Price, Waterville, Wash.; and Maxine Cawdell, Shawnee. Parker was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dwight and Sherman; and his sister, Sylvia.
J.D. Barkhimer
Funeral services for lifelong Wewoka resident J.D. Barkhimer are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka. Rev. Jason Yarbrough is to officiate. Interment is to follow at Tate Mountain Cemetery in Wewoka under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Barkimer died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001 at Shawnee Regional Hospital at the age of 66. He was born Aug. 25, 1935 to David Franklin and Ethel (Merriman) Barkhimer in Wewoka. A 1954 graduate of New Lima High School, he retired as an oilfield pumper and rancher. Barkhimer married Pat Ledgerwood in Wewoka on Sept. 24, 1955. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church south of Wewoka. He is preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Blair Barkhimer. Barkhimer is survived by his wife, of the home; two daughters, Annette Troglin and Carol Cook, both of Wewoka; one son, Carl Barkhimer of Wewoka; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, L.M. Barkhimer of Wewoka; three sisters, Ella Norman of Sasakwa and Zella Dansby and Stella Streater, both of Wewoka. Pallbearers are Mike Streater, David Streater, Buddy Heard, Steve Barkhimer, Steve Parks, and Tony Bevelhymer. Honorary pallbearers are Earl Bevelhymer, Ray Bevelhymer, Edmond Smith, Buddy Smith, Tink Streater, Herb Prater, and Tiny Middleton.
Cassie Boland
Funeral services for Wewoka Nursing Center resident Cassie Ellen Boland are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka. Rev. Mike Kirby is to officiate. Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Boland died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001 at the age of 82. She was born May 12, 1919 to Jim and Eliza (Paige) Sanders in Searcy, Ark. She was educated in the Seminole County area. Boland married Woodrow Boland on May 12, 1938 in Wewoka. She retired in 1962 from Lillian Russell of Wewoka as a seamstress. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Wewoka where she taught Sunday School. Boland was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She is preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Etta and Nancy Sanders; one son, Floyd Sanders; and one grandson, Woody Blankenship. She is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Orr of Wewoka; two granddaughters; one sister, Virginia Earles of Saugas, Calif.; one brother, Fred Sanders of Wewoka; and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Don Orr, Tony Kidwell, Eddie Blankenship, Earnest Moore, Sterling Elmore, and Jim Fleming.
Jewell Rider Sr.
Funeral services for former longtime Seminole resident Jewell Dexter Rider Sr. are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Rev. Tracy Barnett is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Rider died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001 at an Oklahoma City hospital at the age of 80. He was born April 19, 1921 in Sallisaw to Jack Walker and Susie Belle (Johnson) Rider. He attended school in the Bunch and Marble City area. Rider lived in the Shawnee area before entering the service during World War II. He was employed in Substation Maintenance for OG&E. He retired after 32 years of service. Rider married Elsie June Odor on Aug. 2, 1915 in Seminole. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Protestand faith. Rider was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and seven brothers. He is survived by his wife, of the home; one son, Jewell Rider Jr. of Seminole; one daughter, Susan Faye Rider of Shawnee; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Kate Kennedy of California. The casket will be opened until 1:50 on Wednesday and will not be opened after the services.
Billie Keaton
Graveside funeral services for Seminole resident Billie Wynona Keaton were schedueld for 2 p.m. today at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with Dr. Kelvin Moseley set to officiate. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Keaton died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 72. She was born Nov. 18, 1929 in Frederick to Otto William and Ellen (Baird) Scheller. She married Bill Keaton on April 21, 1951 in Marietta. He preceded Keaton in death on January 25, 1990. She moved to Seminole in December of 1956 from Stigler. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Frederick. Keaton was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kayla and Randy Strayhorn, Shawnee; two grandchildren, Kolby Keaton Strayhorn and Kole Keaton Strayhorn; four brothers, Otto William Scheller Jr. of Jackson, Miss., Jerry and Mike Scheller both of Seminole, and Eddie Scheller of Sayre; and two sisters, Mary Funderberg of Oklahoma City and Myrna Walden of Frederick.
Damien Anthony
Funeral services for Seminole resident Damien John Anthony are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Covenant Life Family Church with Rev. Vern Sundberg officiating. Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Anthony died at Seminole Medical Center Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001 as a result of an accident. He was 15. He was a lifelong Seminole County resident. Anthony was born May 11, 1986 in Shawnee to Van Doyle “John” and Brenda (Jones) Anthony. He was a student at Strother School and a member of 4-H. He is survived by his parents, of the home; grandparents, Peggy Neu of Albert and Don Jones of Oklahoma City; great-grandparents, Franklyn Cornelius of Cogar and Clara Cornelius of Seminole; one brother, Timothy Strickland of Oklahoma City; and one sister, Tiffany Ellison of Oklahoma City. Casket bearers are Mark McCowen, Steve Hamilton, Chris Rainwater, Wesley Phillips, Matt Anson, and Bill West. Honorary bearers are Charlie Anson, Toby Aldridge, and Keith Aldridge.
Anna Renfro
Graveside services for Maud resident Anna “Ann” Ruth Renfro are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cummings Cemetery in Maud. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the services, which will be under the direction of Knight Funeral Home. Renfro died Friday, Dec. 1, 2001 at Mission Hill Hospital at the age of 81. She was born to James Harvey Hudson and Mary (Estep) Hudson on Oct. 30, 1920 in Snowball, Ark. Renfro was a lifelong Maud resident, and was a cook in the cafeteria for Maud Public Schools for many years. She later worked on the Green Thumb program in the Maud field office for Action, Inc., until her complete retirement. Renfro was a member of the Maud Trinity Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Tobe Renfro on Dec. 10, 1992; one son, Gary L. Renfro on Aug. 24, 2000; one grandson, Jerry Wayne Renfro on Feb. 2, 1982; one sister, Daisy Ryan on Dec. 12, 1997; and one brother, Fay Hudson. Renfro is survived by two sons, George Paul Renfro, Farmington, N.M., and Terry Renfro, Maud; her companion, Kenneth Beene, Maud; one brother, James Hudson, Maud; one sister, Elva Hart, Moore; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Roy Birdwell
Funeral services for Konawa native Roy Birdwell are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Shawnee. Rev. Wesley Martin is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Birdwell died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 at his residence in Shawnee at the age of 62. He was born Dec. 8, 1938 in Konawa to James Rufus and Bessie (Wood) Birdwell. He was a rotary driller working for several Oklahoma oil firms including several years with Bodard and Hale Drilling Company. Birdwell introduced many young men into the oilfield during his career. He married Carla Wilburn in Ada on Aug. 26, 1962. He was a member of the St. Louis Assembly of God Cuhrch. Birdwell had lived in Shawnee since 1983. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by four sons, Richie Birdwell and Pete Birdwell, both of Seminole, James Birdwell of Tryone, and Edward Birdwell of Yukon; two daughters, Mary Borque of Wewoka and Delia Drew of Harrah; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Tommy Birdwell of Pink; and one sister, Lucille Birdwell of Eufaula. Casket bearers are Bill King, Teddy Eberle, David Green, Jerry Green, David Bussey, and Billy Graham. Honorary casket bearers are Kenny King, Daryl Hopkins, Richard Norman, Ellis Shaw, and Carl Hilburn.
Media McAlister
A private family burial for former longtime Seminole County resident Media McAlister is scheduled for Monday under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. McAlister died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001 at Norman Regional Hospital at the age of 84. She was born June 13, 1917 in Arkansas to Johnny Lee Vincent and Lillie Tackett. She was married to Fred McAlister. McAlister was retired and a member of the Holiness faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sons. She is survived by two daughters, Helen Brooks of Little Axe and Virgie Driggers of Newalla; two sisters, Ula Smith and Daisy Davis, both of Seminole; and numerous grandchildren.
