Leo Rooms

OKLAHOMA CITY – Funeral services for Seminole resident Leo Forest Rooms were scheduled for Saturday at Life Christian Church. Burial was to follow at Schwartz Cemetery under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home. Rooms died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001 the age of 62. He was born May 19, 1939 in Oklahoma City to Edward and Esther Rooms. He married Loretta June Smith on June 4, 1966. Rooms served in the U.S. Army for two years. He retired to his farm in Seminole in September of this year. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother, and one sister. Rooms is survived by his mother; one sister, Mary Boone; two brothers, Don and Earl Rooms; two sons, Travis, of Fort Lewis, Wash., and Clyde Curtis, of Fort Drum, N.Y.; and one grandchild.

John Machado

Funeral services for Seminole resident John Frank Machado are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Basil Keenen, O.S.B. set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Machado died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001 at his home at the age of 77. He moved to Seminole from Oxnard, Calif. in 1977. He was born Feb. 7, 1924 in Venice, Calif. to Porfirio and Helen (Dickhous) Machado. Machado married Midge Evyaune (Hargrave) Machado on Aug. 11, 1945 in Venice, Calif. He was a retired farmer. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 until 1943. Machado graduated from Venice High School where he was a standout athlete receiving varsity letters in football, baseball, and track. He attended Loyala University where he quarterback for the Lions from 1945 until 1947. He played professional football for Los Angeles Bulldogs in the Pacific Coast League where he was quarterback from 1948 until 1950. Machado coached at Santa Clara High School in Oxnard, Calif. from 1952 until 1958. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Machado, in 1988; and one gradson, Matthew Machado, in 1985. He is survived by his wife, of the home; six sons, John Machado, of Miama, George Machado, of Milwaukee, Wis., Patrick Machado, of Fresno, Calif, Kernon Machado, of Camarillo, Calif., and Bryon and Mark Machado, both of Seminole; one daughter, Anne Machado, of Prague; two brothers, Henry Machado, of Palos Verdes, Calif., and Patrick Machado, of Long Beach, Calif.; one sister, Helene Vansant, of San Bernardino, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Charlie Breeding

Funeral services for Charlie Thomas Breeding, the father of a Wewoka resident, were scheduled to be held this morning at South Colonial Chapel. Breeding died Monday at the age of 67. He was born June 21, 1924 in Algood, Tenn. to Alf and Eva Breeding. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. Breeding worked for 27 years at Schuler Fruit Company as a truck driver. He also worked for Fred Jones Ford as a block inspector for 15 years. He was preceded in death by four sisters, one brother and two grandchildren. Breeding is survived by his wife, Ola Breeding, of the home; one son, Gary Breeding, of Wewoka; four daughters, Joann Reeves, of Oklahoma City, Betty Lewis, of Noble, and Charlene Breeding and Terri Burke, both of Dublin, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Benetia Boone

Graveside services for former Seminole resident Benetia Elizabeth Niblack-Boone were held Tuesday at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Capitol Hill Funeral Home. Niblack-Boone died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2001 at the age of 74. She was a member of Crossroads Cathedral Assembly of God Church. She was involved in retail and furniture sales. Niblack-Boone once made a 250 yard hole-in-one at Woodson Park. She attended Seminole High School. She is survived by brothers, Orville, Carroll, Gene, and Jo Niblack; two sons, Gordon and Craig Boone, and three grandchildren.

Marcus Brooks

Graveside funeral services for Marcus Levi Brooks, the infant son of Gary and Melissa Brooks, were held Monday at Little Cemetery. Rev. Danny Fisher officiated. Burial was under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Brooks died Saturday, Nov.17, 2001 at Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of two weeks. He was born Oct. 28, 2001 in University Hospital in Oklahoma City to Gary Leon and Melissa Ann (Hudgins) Brooks. He is survived by his parents, of the home; one brother, Matthew Brooks, of the home; one sister, Courtney Brooks, of the home; grandparents, David and Dana Taylor, of Wewoka, and Leon and Roberta Brooks, of Seminole; great-grandparents, Betty Williams, Estelle Lane, and Frank and Albert Taylor, all of Seminole, Beulah Brooks, of Maud.

Doyle ‘Shorty’ Lee

Funeral services for Doyle Wallace “Shorty” Lee, the brother of a Seminole resident, were held Monday in the Paden Holiness Church in Paden. Rev. James McDaniel and Keith Vaughn officiated. Burial followed in the Oakdale Cemetery in Paden under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service. Lee died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001 at the Prague Municipal Hospital in Prague at the age of 78. He was born Feb. 15,1923 near Paden to John Wesley at Audra Samantha (Doyle) Lee. He lived in Paden all of his life. Lee was a roughneck and a member of the Paden Holiness Church. He married Ella May Fetner in Ada. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Maudie Palmer Cooper, Theo Marie Estep, and Dorothy Bernice Smith. Lee is survived by his wife, of Paden; one step-daughter, Ella Louise Hodde, of Wellston; five brothers, Gene T. Lee, Johnny Paul Lee, and Shirrill Dean Lee, all of Paden, James Wesley Lee, of Prague, and Billy Ray Lee, of Okemah; and four sisters, Martha Lou Hause, of Seminole, Charlie Mae Hutchins, of Harrah, and Clara Faye White and Linda Fern Allen, both of Paden. Pallbearers were Clarence Heard, Bob Collins, Charles Collins, Phillip Bailey, Dean Collins, and Andy Schrock.

Joseph ‘Patrick’ Grove

Funeral services for Joseph “Patrick” Grove were scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Matthew Brown, O.S.B., officiating. Burial is set to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Grove died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001 in Wewoka at the age of 44. He was born May 31, 1957 in Oklahoma City to Joseph William and Iva Marie (Bourbonnais) Grove. He was retired from the Konawa Public Schools, where he worked for 15 years. Grove was a lifelong resident of Konawa. He moved to the Oakridge Nursing Home in Wewoka in February of 1994. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was active in church functions. Grove graduated from Konawa High School and also attended Asher Public Schools. He was involved in the Special Olympics in 1976 and was one of the first to do so in special education. He was preceded in death by his mother. Grove is survived by his father, of Konawa; his step-mother, Geraldine Groves, of Konawa; one sister, Diane Beesley, of Shawnee; and special friends at the Oakridge Nursing Home in Wewoka.

Pervis Leewright

Funeral services for Pervis Theodore ‘Perk’ Leewright, brother of three Seminole County residents, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Free Will Baptist Church in Crowder. Rev. Richard Crook will officiate the services. There will be a graveside service with Veterans Rites at 3:30 p.m. in Little Cemetery, under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville. Leewright died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001 at his home in Crowder at the age of 68. He was born to Mamie Elizabeth (Collier) Leewright and Leslie Porter Leewright on July 5, 1933 in Holdenville. Leewright was reared in Holdenville and the Oak Grove area, and attended Holdenville, oak Grove, and Moss schools. He moved to California at a young age and worked in Agriculture for several years, then in the early 1950s, joined the U.S. Army serving in Germany and Korea. Leewright moved to Washington State in 1962, where he worked as a logger. He married Ruth Gumm on Aug. 2, 2001 in Van Buren, Ark. Leewright was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Edward Leewright. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of the home; two sons, Wayne Leewright, Millerton, and Jason Leewright, Chaney, Wash.; two daughters, Renata Herrera, pueblo, Colo., and Alisa Browning, Washougal, Wash.; one stepson, Robert Gumm, Springdale, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Karena Kehoe, Colville, Wash., and Angela Siegal, Harrah, Wash.; four brothers, Paul Leewright, Stinnette, Texas, Manford Leewright, North Port, Wash., Ronnie Leewright, Seminole, and Kent Leewright, Paradise, Texas; three sisters, June Patterson, Paradise, Texas, and May Rodgers and Carol Hickman, both of Wewoka; and 21 grandchildren. Pallbearers are Randy Leewright, Marty Young, Lawrence McManus, Tom Bell, Bill Collier, Don Howell, Richard Hickman, Elza Rodgers, Beau Leewright, Kyle Rodgers, Kent Leewright, and Ronnie Leewright. Honorary bearers are Burl Wood, Bob Davis, Robert Lens, Charles Sills, Jerry McAdoo and Artie Young.

Anna Belle McElyea

Funeral services for Seminole native Anna Belle McElyea were scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Parks Funeral Home Chapel in Stroud with Rev. Pauline McNutt officiating. Burial is to follow in Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home. McElyea died at her home near Stroud Friday, Nov. 16, 2001 at the age of 68. She was born Oct. 10, 1933 in Seminole to Dewey and Mattie Lou (Thomas) Hill. She was founder and minister of Harvest Light House Church in Stroud. McElyea married Bill E. McElyea May 25, 1950 in Seminole. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and one son, Billy Jr. She is survived by one son, Rodger McElyea, of Stroud; tow brothers, Shirley Hill, of Seminole, and Amos Hill, of Ft. Myers, Fla.; one sister, Dorma Lee Allensworth, of Seminole; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Willie Romines

Graveside funeral services for Willie Charles Romines are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday at Holdenville Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Chesser officiating. Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Romines died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001 in Holdenville at the age of 75. He was born June 8, 1926 to Bill and Mabel Romines and was raised in Snyder where he also attended school. He worked for many years as a roofer. Romines was a member of the House of Prayer in Wewoka. He is survived by three daughters, Marie Williams, of Rush Springs, Cathy Solomon, of South Carolina, and Martha Romines, of Ada; two sisters, Judy Ellis and Josie Maybee, both of Seminole; eight grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are Lloyd Solomon, Gator Solomon, Clint Williams, Michael Williams, Kevin Williams, Clifton Gilkerson, and Charles Lamb.

Ruby Winlock

Funeral services for Maud resident Ruby Rachel (Coursey) Winlock are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Swearingen. Services are set to be officiated by Rev. Charlie Henthorn. Winlock died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001 in Ada at the age of 89. She was born Feb. 27, 1912 in Chatanooga to Katie (Rigby) and Andrew Coursey. She was a longtime seamstress and a resident of Konawa for most of her life. Winlock was a member of the First Baptist Church of Konawa. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ode Coursey and Marvin Coursey; and one sister, Lida Wilson. She is survived by one son, Benny Winlock, of Shawnee; and one grandchild.

Marie Ogle

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Marie Phillips Ogle are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Grace Assembly of God. Burial is set to follow at Sunnydale Cemetery under the direction of Baggerly-South Funeral Home. Ogle died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001 in Oklahoma City at the age of 91. She was born May 4, 1910 in Steve, Ark. to James W. and Nancy Ann (Green) Crawford. She married Clinton Phillips in 1926. He preceded Ogle in death in 1939. She then married Dr. Elmer E. Ogle. She had lived in Oklahoma City since 1961. Ogle worked for Ligon Furniture and Draperies in Wewoka where she was a drapery and interior designer. She was a member of Grace Assembly of God. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one son, Kenneth W. Phillips; seven sisters; and two brothers. Ogle is survived by one daughter, Sharon Strickland, of Green Brair, Ark.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christine Jeffrey, of Oklahoma City, and Elva Gossage, of Plainview, Ark.; and one brother, Laudell Crawford, of Ventura, Calif.
