Wylma Posey

EDMOND – Funeral services for Sasakwa native Wylma Jean Posey were scheduled for Saturday morning at Baggerly Funeral Home. Posey died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001 in Oklahoma City. She was born Nov. 10, 1923 in Sasakwa to Jess and Ethel Pearson. She married William Carl Posey Jan. 12, 1944 in Illinois. Posey was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers, Arnold, J.R. “Curly,” and Jesse Pearson. She is survived by one son, Bob Posey, Edmond; three daughters, Susie Todd, Dickinson, Texas, Karla Taylor, Woodward, and Denise Harrell, Independence, Mo.; two sisters, Barbara Holleman, Oklahoma City, and Patsy Spaulding, Bonita Springs, Fla.; one brother, Dale Pearson, Woodward; eight grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

John Stringfellow

OKLAHOMA CITY – Funeral services for former Seminole resident John Michael Stringfellow are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Capitol Hill Baptist Church. Burial is set to follow at Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary. Stringfellow died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001 at the age of 52. He was born Sept. 21, 1949 in Dallas, Texas to Lonnie and Jerry Stringfellow. He moved to Oklahoma City in 1969. Stringfellow married Debby Taylor in 1970. He was an active member of Capitol Hill Baptist Church where he served in the music ministry, teaching Sunday School, as well as serving as a deacon, former chairman of the deacons and on various committees. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Work Activity Center of Moore. After receiving a heart transplant in March, 2000, Stringfellow became an advocate for organ donation and served as vicepresident of Hope Transplant Support Group and spoke to many groups through the Oklahoma Organ Sharing Network. He is survived by his wife, Debby; two daughters, Amy and Jill; two granddaughters; his mother, Jerry Stringfellow, of Malakoff, Texas; and one brother, Ron Stringfellow, of Cedar Hill. The family has requested that donations be made to the Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute or the Work Activity Center in Moore.

Wanda Monks

Funeral services for Bowlegs resident Wanda Lee Monks are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Revs. Larry Chesser and Steven Chesser will officiate the services. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Monks died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 62. She was born to Raymond Edward Secrest and Ruby Naomi (Campbell) Secrest on Nov. 17, 1938 in Shattuck. She married Loyd Monks on Jan. 15, 1959 in Denison, Texas. Monks moved to Seminole County from Caddo County in 1975, and was a certified Dietary Manager at Seminole Estates. She retired in Nov. 2000. She was a member of the Gleaner’s Holiness Church. Monks was preceded in death by her father, Raymond E. Secrest; one brother, Dale Secrest; and one sister, Wynona Bingham. She is survived by her husband, Loyd, of the home; her mother, Ruby Naomi Secrest, Laverne; one daughter, Deborah Jones, Idabel; two sons, Tommy Monks, Bowlegs, and Raymond Ussery, Midwest City; one sister, Leona Crystal, Norman; 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Mike White, Buddy Gore, Troy Wayne Monks, James Butch Taylor, Larry Cross, and Delmar Robinson. Honorary bearers are Alan Jones, Darrell Lee, Matthew Jenkins, Andrew Harjo, Brandon Hasbell, Bill Miller, and Mark Echelle.

Woodrow Roundtree

MAUD -Graveside funeral services for Maud resident Woodrow Russell Roundtree, 86, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cummings Cemetery. Rev. Carl Upton will officiate; burial will be under the direction of Knight Funeral Home. Roundtree died Thursday at his home in Maud. He was born Sept. 19, 1915, in Bristow to John Hamilton and Lucinda (Brown) Roundtree. He was employed as an assembly line worker for McDonnell Douglas, retiring and moving back to Oklahoma in 1978. He was a member of Free Pentecostal Church in Maud. Roundtree married Violet Swarb in Maud in 1997. She survives him, of the home. Other survivors include one son, Carl Roundtree, Maud; one brother, Leon Roundtree, Midland, Texas; three sisters, Frances Hodge and Iva Trice, both of Tulsa, and Flora Webb, Stroud; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Maxine Collins

Funeral services for Konawa resident Maxine Collins were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001 at the Pickard Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Revs. Ed George and Quinton Kay officiated the services. Burial followed at the Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home. Collins died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001 in Konawa at the age of 80. She was born to Jessie (Hartsell) and David S. Kyle on Friday, Aug. 19, 1921 in Navina. She married Melvin Collins in 1948. Collins was a homemaker, and moved to Konawa in 1959. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Konawa. Collins was preceded in death by her husband; six brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by three sons, David Max, Konawa, C.W. Morgan, Guthrie, and Larry Morgan, Edmond; one daughter, Donna Canfield, Norman; one sister, Margie Wendler, Edmond; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Irene Carpitcher

Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident Irene (Johnson) Harjo-Carpitcher are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church in Wewoka. Revs. Houston Tiger and Malcolm Tiger will officiate the services. Interment will follow at the Tiger family cemetery in Wewoka under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Carpitcher died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001 at the age of 77. She was born to Willie and Sallie Johnson on Aug. 30, 1924 in Seminole County. Carpitcher was reared in the Wewoka area. She married Daniel Harjo who preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 1979. On Jan. 29, 1981, she married Leslie Carpitcher in Sasakwa. Carpitcher was a former member of Sand Creek Eufaula Indian Baptist Church. She was a current member of the Rock Springs Church in Sasakwa. At the time of he death, Carpitcher was a resident of Elmwood Manor Nursing Center in Wewoka. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; two daughters, Linda Lou Powell on Feb. 4, 1999 and Addie Sue Gerl Harjo on April 4, 2001; one son, Barney Johnson on Jan. 17, 1987; one infant son, Daniel Harjo Jr.; and one granddaughter, Kathrine Nichol Gerl, both on April 4, 2001. Carpitcher is survived by her second husband, Leslie, of the home; one son, Eastman Johnson, Ada; one daughter, Mary Harjo, Holdenville; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Jason Tiger, Jimmy Tiger, Greg Tiger, Bennie Tiger, Jr., and Tiger and Ramsey Harjo. Wake services are scheduled for this evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka. A traditional wake service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church.

Maxine Fulcher

Funeral services for Maxine Fulcher, mother of Bowlegs resident Jimmie Tunnell, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the First Assembly of God Church in Chandler. Rev. Doyle Seeley will officiate the service. Burial will follow at White Dove Cemetery in Sparks under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler. Fulcher died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001 at her home in Sparks at the age of 74. She was born to A.W. and Lottie Bell (Durbin) James on July 23, 1927 in Sparks. She married John Mark Fulcher in 1977 and the couple lived in Sparks for many years. Fulcher was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Chandler. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister; and one grandson. Fulcher is survived by one daughter, Deborah Trammell, Wetumka; one son, Jimmie Tunnell, Bowlegs; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

James Perry

Funeral services for Wewoka resident James Charles Perry are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Baptist Church in Wewoka. Rev. Reginald Woods will officiate the services. Burial will follow at the Perry family cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary. Perry died Monday in Wewoka at the age of 72. He was born to George Lee Perry and Elzato Cato Perry on Dec. 27, 1928 in England, Ark. Perry retired from Pacific Freight and Furniture Company in 1991, and was a member of the St. Paul Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters. Perry is survived by his wife, Robbie Lee Perry, of the home; two daughters, Daphne Metoyer Perry, Wewoka, and Gatanya Perry, Los Angeles, Calif.; five sons, Larry Perry, Oakland, Calif., Gary Perry, Los Angeles, Calif., James Perry, Bryan Keith Perry, and Rodney Perry, all of Wewoka; three brothers, Vanvale Perry, Kansas City, Mo., Lincoln Perry, Wewoka, and Sydney Perry, Compton, Calif.; four sisters, Alma Perry, Ark., Wilma Roberts, Bakersfield, Calif., Eloise Collier, Oakland, Calif., and Merlene Marshall, Oakland, Calif.; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Cunningham (Robinson)

Graveside services for Wewoka resident Elizabeth P. Cunningham (Robinson) are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 2, 2001 at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka. Services are under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Cunningham died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001 in Littleton, Colo. at the age of 88. She was born on Dec. 11, 1912 in Box. Cunningham was a 25-year resident of Wewoka, who had been residing in Colorado for several years to be near her daughter. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Watts, Evergreen, Colo.; one son, John Reed, Corpus Christi, Texas; and nine grandchildren. The family is requesting that memorial donations be made in Elizabeth CunninghamRobinson’s name to the Porter Hospice of Peace, Johnson Center, 5020 East Arapahoe Road, Littleton, Colo. 80122.

Judy Ann Ellis

Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident Judy Ann Ellis are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Revs. Roy Robertson and Doyle Seeley will officiate the services. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Ellis passed away on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001 at Midwest City Regional Medical Center at the age of 49. She was born to Clyde Vernon Ellis and Fannie Betty (Morrison) Ellis on May 2, 1952 in Prague. Ellis was a graduate of Strother High School and East Central University where she received a degree in Elementary Education. She worked at Goodyear in Seminole and at the CD Warehouse Corporate Office in bookkeeping and accounting. Ellis attended Bowlegs Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jessie Ellis; and one infant sister, Brenda Ellis. Ellis is survived by one daughter, Jessica Ellis, Shawnee; one brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Linda Ellis, Seminole; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Bob Williams, Little; four nieces, Janette Tesch, Shawnee, Jelessa Brinkman, Shawnee, Michelle Kelley, Midwest City, Stephanie Ellis, Seminole; and one nephew, Scott Anthony Ellis, Oklahoma City. Pallbearers are Kenny Dickerson, Hugh North, Joe North, Wendell “Pooch” Payne, Forrest Green, and Gary Grisso. Honorary bearers are Mark Doolen, Reed Warrenburg, Jimbo Warrenburg, Craig Brown, Mark Scott, Brent Scott, John Earl Canada, and Billy Ellis.

Newman Williams

Funeral services for lifelong Maud resident Newman Williams were scheduled for 1:30 today at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Rev. Houston Tiger was the officiate with Rev. Cecil Jefferson assisting. Burial was to follow at the Williams’ family cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Williams died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital at the age of 69. He was born Feb. 11, 1932 in Maud to Joney and Ellen (Chupcogee) Williams. He worked at Emmeral Guinn Ranch. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and six sisters. He is survived by one brother, Charlie Williams, of Maud; three sisters, Rosie Simmers, Lela Williams, and Henryetta Dick, all of Maud. Honorary bearers are employees of Guinn Oil Company, Lindsey Bondon, Raymond Harjo, Barney Coker Jr., and Jerrod Cline. Active bearers are Curtis Gentry, Edward Turnbow, Andrew Turnbow, John Shaw, Joseph Davis, and Tony Berryhill.

Jessie Self

Graveside funeral services for Seminole resident Jessie Lena (Martin) Self were scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Cummings Cemetery in Maud under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Cline is scheduled to officiate. Self died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001 at Pioneer Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 21, 1919 in Newton County, Ark. to Carlus C. and Hettie (Casey) Martin. She married Odell Self Oct. 27, 1934 in Bowlegs. Self was a homemaker who loved reading her Bible and gardening. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Letha. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Donna Kepler, and Mary Lena Self; one brother, Bois Martin; and three sisters, Vola Dee Lewis, Marie Hopper, and Biva Palmer. Self is survived by one son, Harold Self, of Okemah; two daughters, Lora Beach and Sue Sims, both of Seminole; one brother, Rev. Lois Martin, of Maud; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Self requested that donations be made to the Trinity Baptist Church Falls Creek Fund.
