Funeral services for Rev. Charles Alfred Webb, Sr. are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Holdenville. Rev. Clarence Prevost will officiate. Interment is set to follow at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Webb died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 at the Cancer Care Center of America in Tulsa at the age of 73. He was born June 14, 1928 in Luther to Dennis and Ruth (Tarver) Webb. He was the 12th of 13 children. Webb drove a school bus for Moss Public Schools before retiring in 1990. He became an ordained minister on Sept. 10, 1995. He married Celesta Andrews on Jan. 13, 1996 in Seminole. Webb was pastor of St. Matthew Baptist Church in Seminole for one year and St. Mark Baptist Church in Wewoka for four years. He was vice moderator and later moderator of the Eastern Union District. He was a member of Middle Creek Baptist Church in Sasakwa. Webb and his family moved to Seminole in January of this year. He is survived by his wife; four sons, Timothy Webb, Joe Webb, and Charles Webb Jr. all of Wichita, Kans., and Eric Bradley, of Wagoner; 11 daughters, Sherry Simon and Vanessa Level, both of Wichita, Kans., Rachael Ann West of Midwest City, Pamela Webb of Fort Worth, Texas, Regina Griffis of Holdenville, Denise Dindy of Tulsa, Latoya Hughes of Holdenville, Tanisha Wise of Seminole, Shawn Andrews of Oklahoma City, LaSheika Andrews of Tulsa, and Shavonne Andrews of Seminole; one foster son and foster daughter; two sisters, Leona Wilson of Midwest City and Louella Isaac of Vallejo, Calif.; 35 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The minister will be an honorary pallbearer.
Willis Funk Jr.
Funeral services for Seminole native Willis Paul Funk, Jr. are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday in the Wesley United Methodist Church in El Reno. Burial is set to follow at El Reno Cemetery with military honors under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home. Funk died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001 at Park View Hospital at the age of 65. He was born Nov. 13, 1935 in Seminole to Willis Paul and Marvyn Mitchell (Callahan) Funk. He attended public schools in Seminole. Funk graduated from Pawhuska High School in 1953 and attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College where he received his Associates of Arts Degree in 1956. He then joined the United State Army, during which time he attended the Army Language School in Monterey, Calif. He was stationed at Bad Eibeling, Germany during his enlistment. After receiving his honorable discharge from the Army, Funk attended Oklahoma State University where he received his Masters Degree in Education in 1976. He taught school as well as served as assistant football and head basketball coach at Ellis, Kans. He married Jacqueline Lee Redding in Ponca City. Funk and his wife moved to Ponca City in 1968. He worked as a teacher/administrator for the El Reno Federal Correction Institution for 21 years. After his retirement from the FCI, he worked as a teacher for the Putnam City School System for 10 years Funk was currently working as an adjunct professor at Redlands Community College. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Federal Reformatory Employees Activities Association. He also coached local sports teams. Funk was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, of the home; two sons, J. Michael Funk, of Statesboro, Ga., and Kenny Funk, of Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Paula Lee Figgs, of El Reno; eight grandchildren; one brother, Michael Callahan, of Taylor, Texas; and one sister, Gini Harwell, of Auburn, Calif. Terry Rowe
Graveside funeral services for Maud resident Terry Don Rowe are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Little Cemetery under the Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Rev. Charles Higgins will officiate. Rowe was found dead near Maud Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001. He was 23. He was born May 8, 1978 in Shawnee to Jerry David Rowe and Shirlene Denise (Carter) Burnett. Rowe lived in Maud most of his life and attended Maud schools. He is survived by one daughter, Jessica Katrina Terry, Arkansas; three sons, Justin Christopher Terry and Christopher Don Wells, both of Arkansas, and Joseph Don Rowe, of Maud; mother and father, both of Maud; four sisters, Ethel Victoria (Vicci) Burnett, of Maud, Barbara Anette James and Carrie Jane Rowe, both of Shawnee, and Rebecca Rowe, of Prague; five brothers, David Wayne Rowe and Charles Thompson, both of Shawnee, Thomas Ivan Burnett Jr., of Kansas, John Willis Burnett, of Maud, and Randy Snyder, of Chickasha; and his fiancée, Tamara Bennett, of Maud.
Floyd Harjo
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Floyd L. Harjo were scheduled to be held at 2 p.m. today at Pickard Chapel. Rev. Frank Moppin was to officiate with Right Rev. William C. Wantland officiating. Burial was to follow at Wolf Cemetery. Harjo died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001 at the age of 89. He was born Dec. 8, 1911 in Maud to Ida (Burgess) and Tima Harjo. He married Beatrice (Hopkins) in Dallas, Texas, on Feb. 14, 1982. Harjo was an administrator for the Seminole Nation. He served as former principal chief, assistant chief, treasurer, and General Council Representative. He spent all of his life in Seminole County. Harjo also served in the army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Jean Alsip. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Harjo, of the home; five sons, Puntka Harjo, Sasakwa, Leonard Harjo, Ada, Kenneth Terrell, Seminole, Raymond Terrell, Kansas City, Mo., and Ronald Terrell, Warsaw, Mo.; two daughters, Yvette Harjo, Ada, and Yvonne Harjo, Norman; one brother, John Harjo, Hemet, Calif.; one sister, Anthonette Jones, Wolf.
Margie Hall
Wake services for Wewoka resident Margie Lee Hall were scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka. Funeral services were set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Harley Barnoski and Rev. Jesse Wind will officiate. Interment is scheduled to follow at Snake Creek Church Cemetery in Seminole under the direction of Stout Funeral Home of Wewoka. Hall died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001 at Tulsa Regional Hospital at the age of 70. She was born to Yowella and Mannynie (Hulbutta) Billie on March 13, 1931 in Seminole County. She married Lawrence Hall in Seminole. Hall was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Jessie Louis Sperlin; one infant daughter and one infant son; one granddaughter, A.J. Coody; three brothers, Louis and Joe Billie Sr., George Deere; and one sister, Lucy Mae McKane. She is survived by two daughters, Marty Jackson of McAlester and Carolyn Hall of Wewoka; two sons, Rick Hall and Raymond Hall, both of Wewoka; two brothers, Thomas Billie Sr. and Leo Hulbutta; three sisters, Emma Jacobs, Geneva Fox, and Mandy Williams; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Kris Hall, Anthony Hall, Eric Hall, Ricky Jackson, Travis Jackson, and William Wind. Honorary pallbearers will be William Billie, Dusty Billie, Paul Jacobs, and Johnny Jo Jacobs.
Alvin Cunningham
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Alvin Eugene Cunningham are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Stout Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Cunningham passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001 at the age of 59. He was born to Alvin Lewis and Louise (Ayers) Cunningham on Aug. 16, 1942 in Bigelow, Ark. On Sept. 7, 1963 Alvin married Marie Antonia Segalla in Little Italy, Ark. He is preceded in death by his father Alvin Lewis Cunningham. Cunningham is survived by his wife, Marie, of the home; his mother; one sister, Linda Hudson, Roland, Ark.; one brother, Richard Ayers and his wife Tricia, Wewoka; two daughters, Gina Clair and her husband Kevin, Ellinwood, Kan., and Vicky Coscia and her husband Dan , Tecumseh; one son, Alvin Cunningham Jr. and his wife Amber, Wewoka; and five grandchildren, Joe Coscia, Cody Clair, Mariah Coscia, Megan Coscia, and Blaine Cunningham. Pallbearers are Josh Thomas, Chad Ainsworth, Roy Ainsworth, Isaac Harrison, Danny Wiley and family, and Joe Coscia.
J.L. Fife
J.L. Fife, born Dec. 8, 1908 in Sweetwater, Texas, died Oct. 13, 2001 in Oklahoma City. Mr. Fife was a member of the Baptist faith. The third of sixth children born to Thomas Wiley and Mary Etta (Swearingen) Fife, he was proud of his Texas roots but prouder of his newfound home in Oklahoma. In 1927 he arrived in Seminole during the oil boom and met and married Dorothy Mae West from Sydney, Mont. They established their home in Seminole where he had business interests. His business activities included pipe and supply, real estate and investments, independent oil and gas production and distribution and insurance, including the organization and operation of the Great Western Life Insurance Company. He served in the Navy during World War II and upon return from the Navy began his real estate development and building business in Seminole. Mr. Fife was a 32nd Degree Mason, recipient of the Seminole Hall of Fame award and was in the “Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.” He served on the Seminole City Council and was mayor for two terms, 1939-1943. He was also a member of the Oklahoma Pipe and Steel Dealers Association (president 1943) and Oklahoma Real Estate Association (regional vicepresident). In 1958, the Fifes moved to Oklahoma City. He served as a charter member of the Board of Directors of South Community Hospital (now Integris), holding various offices, including president and secretary/treasurer. J.L. was especially fond of animals and always had a dog as a companion. He will always be remembered as a likable, gentle yet tough leader who had great integrity. He will missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 1973 and by his brothers, Mack and Sam Fife. Survivors include his twin daughters, Jean F. Austin of Oklahoma City and Dottie Franklin and husband, Inks of Ingram, Texas; sister, Odessa Mills of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Leroy Fife, of Sunnyvale, Texas, and Louis Fife, of Hurst, Texas; six grandchildren, Quentin and Gordon Franklin, Ashley Slaton, David and Bradley Austin, Amy Maron, and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Curtis Hankins
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Curtis Richard Hankins are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ. Wayne Maxwell will officiate. Burial is set to follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Hankins died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001 at the age of 73. He was born July 11, 1923 in Vamoosa to Oscar and Lulla Hankins. He married Dorothy Hankins in 1945. Hankins was a carpenter who worked in California for 20 years. He was a veteran of the army and a former military policeman at Tinker Air Force Base. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Hankins played in a band the performed at the American Legion and Seminole State College. He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Angela Davis; and two sisters, Dessie and Effie. He is survived by his wife; one son, Curtis Randolph Hankins; one daughter, Brenda Hankins; two foster daughters, Patty and Kim Zigglerhofler; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Lucy Drake
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Lucy Violet Drake are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Rick Harrison officiating. Burial is set to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Drake died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001 at Collinsville. She was born Feb. 6, 1919 in Holdenville to Sidney and Margaret Elizabeth (Broughton) Barbee. She married J.R. Drake on Feb. 5, 1936 in Seminole. Drake was a bookkeeper for Dunlap’s and the family business. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bowlegs and was a graduate of Bowlegs High School. She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Curtis Barbee; and one sister, Eva Twibell. Drake is survived by three daughters, Carol Griffin, Oakrun, Calif., Linda Lind, of Burke, Va., and Margaret Creech, of Collinsville.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bessie Robinson, of Houston, Texas, and Minnie Horton, of Amarillo, Texas.
Jerry House
Funeral services for former Sasakwa resident Jerry Don House were held Saturday at the Sasakwa Assembly of God Church with Rev. Wesley Martin officiating. Interment followed at Crossroads Cemetery in Sasakwa under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home of Wetumka. House died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001 in Waldron, Ark. at the age of 52. He was born April 7, 1949 in Jackson, Calif. to Robert Rickman House and Onita Payne House. He was raised in Sasakwa and attended Sasakwa school. House was a farmer. He moved to Waldron in 1990 and worker for Tyson Food for the past six years. He attended the Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by one son, Donnie House; his father; and two brothers, Robert Leon and Darrell Wayne House. House is survived by six sons, Kenny Don House, Larry Dean House, Russell Lee House, and Wade House, all of Sasakwa, Jerry Don Briggs, of Wewoka, and Dakota Don House, of Waldron, Ark.; one daughter, Shyla Sawn House, Missouri; three brothers, Aaron Dale House and Ricky House, both of Konawa, and Robbie House, of Holdenville; four sisters, Betty Marsh of Ardmore, Shirley Briggs of Weleetka, Brenda Trent of Sasakwa, and Janis Wheeler of Ada; and 14 grandchildren.
Marie Houck
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Marie M. Houck are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Liberty Baptist Church. Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson will officiate. Burial is set to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Houck died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001 at an Oklahoma City hospital at the age of 78. She was born Nov. 23, 1922 in Fenter, Ark. to Joe E. and Mamie Robertson. She was raised in Malvern, Ark. Houck married Sylvester Houck on July 16, 1942 in Wewoka. She was the assistant manager of the Liberty Retirement Center for the past 14 years. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Houck lived in Seminole for many years but moved to Shawnee 14 years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Paul Wayne Houck; one grandson, Timothy Houck; and one sister, Jessie Mae Westerman. She is survived by two sons, Sam Houck, Richland Hills, Texas, and David Houck, Earlsboro; two daughters, Phyllis Casteel, Eufaula, and Millie Castle, Seminole; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great –grandchildren; and two brothers, Joe Robertson, Yuma, Ariz., and Charles Robertson, Phoenix, Ariz.
