Betty Ambrose

Graveside funeral services for Seminole resident Betty J. Ambrose are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate. Ambrose died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001 at Seminole Estates at the age of 80. She was born July 10, 1921 in Ohio to Ford and Ruth Vivian (Murphy) Mallon. She moved to Seminole in 1928. Ambrose married Lester (Red) Ambrose Aug. 17, 1969 in Seminole. She was a homemaker and a member of Twin Oak Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; and her sister, June Mallon. Ambrose is survived by two daughters, Janice Boatman, Slayton, Texas, and Donna Lovelady, Seminole; one son, Gene Douglass, Kennnesaw, Ga.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Bernard ‘Bill’ Grooms

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Bernard Dean “Bill” Grooms are scheduled for tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Watts Kingston Chapel in Kingston. Sherry Heath will officiate. Interment is set to follow at Knob Hill Cemetery in Kingston under the direction of Watts Funeral Home. Grooms died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001 at the VA Hospital in Dallas at the age of 70. He was born Dec. 25, 1930 in Oklahoma City to Charles Edward and Betty Hembree Grooms. He was raised in Seminole and graduated from Seminole High School in 1948. Grooms attended the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity and the OU Ruff Neks. He graduated from OU in 1952. He served in the United States Marine Corps for eight years and was involved in the Korean Conflict. Grooms married Dorothy Ann Vernon Oct. 13, 1950 in Gainesville, Texas. She preceded him in death on Sept. 26, 2000. He worked for Dean Witter as a stockbroker. He moved to Kingston 17 years ago from Norman. Grooms was a member of the Woodville Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by one son, Edward Brenton Grooms, The Colony, Texas; two daughters, Karen Steele, Richardson, Texas, and Mary Elizabeth Wind, Wrentham, Mass.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Preuss, Council Grove, Kans. Pallbearers will be Ed Grooms, James Miller, Bruce Steele, Steve Wind, David Smith, and Bob Buford. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

‘Kathy’ Eeds

Funeral services for Seminole resident Kathryn “Kathy” Rae (Hayden) Eeds are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Ralph Jones is set to officiate. Burial is set to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Eeds died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 56. She was born June 15, 1945 in Maud to Everett L. and Bessie (Morris) Hayden in Maud. She moved from Maud to Seminole in 1963. Eeds married Tom Eeds June 13, 1963 in Seminole. She was a homemaker and a member of Harvey Road Baptist Church and Varnum Busy Bees. She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant daughter, Justine Eeds. Eeds is survived by her husband, of the home; one daughter, Carrie Jones, Fort Smith, Ark.; one son, Brandon Eeds, Lexington; three grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Hayden, Mannford; and one sister, Mildred Grall, Oklahoma City. Casket bearers are scheduled to be Lee Smith, Mikhy Smith, Mike Holder, Sam Smith, Kenneth Jones, and Wendell Griffin. Honorary bearer will be Benny Smith.

Michael Fitzgerald

Funeral services for Michael Lee Fitzgerald, grandson of Seminole resident Gladys Fitzgerald, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada. Revs. John Haynes and Kevin Brantley will officiate the services. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Seminole, under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home, Ada. Fitzgerald died Monday, October 8, 2001 at a local hospital, at the age of 30. He was born to Charles Albert Fitzgerald and Janet Myers Fitzgerald on Nov. 10, 1971 at a Midwest City Hospital. Fitzgerald was a 1990 graduate of Ada High School, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication in 1996 from East Central University. He was a sports editor for the Mustang News and also a past engineer for KADA radio in Ada. Fitzgerald won first place at the State Fair of Oklahoma Press Association Better newspaper Contest for Sports Coverage, large weekly newspaper division. He also produced ECU Tiger basketball pregame and halftime shows, engineered ECU basketball, OU sports and area high school basketball for KADA radio. Fitzgerald was also sports editor for the ECU student newspaper, and a member of the Baptist Student Union and ECU Band. He is survived by his parents, Charles and Janet Fitzgerald, Ada; one sister, Lisa Fitzgerald, of the home; and his grandmother, Gladys Fitzgerald, Seminole. Pallbearers are Todd Dilbeck, Randall Grigsby, Randy Anderson, Conrad Dudderar, Chuck Reherman, and Steve Coulter.

Herschel Shepard

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Herschel Franklin Shepard are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dan Anderson will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home, Wewoka. Shepard died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001 in Spencer at the age of 81. He was born to Frank Shepard and Nellie (Osborne) Shepard on May 14, 1920 in Wewoka. Shepard was reared in Wewoka and attended Wewoka schools. He married Betty Lee Allen on Sept. 16, 1940 in Sulphur. Shepard was self-employed in the heating and air business and retired in 1980. He lived in Wewoka until he moved to Spencer in 1968, where he lived until the time of his death. Shepard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Donald Allen Shepard; two brothers, John P. Shepard and Glen Shepard; and one sister, Gertrude Ewing. He is survived by two daughters, Sue Shepard, Spencer, and Glenda Arnold, Wichita, Kan.; two sons, Ronnie Shepard, Dallas, Texas, and John Shepard, Spencer; one sister, Jo Martin, Wewoka; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Kevin Shepard, Brian Shepard, Tavish Margers, David Kane, Rick Goforth, and Roger Cloud.

Loyd Streater

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident Raymond Loyd Streater are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church in Wewoka. Rev. Doyle Long will officiate the services. Burial will follow at the Streater family cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Streater passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001 at Shawnee Regional Hospital at the age of 84. He was born to Henry Richard Streater and Emma P. (Hipp) Streater on May 30, 1917 in Wewoka. Streater married Imogene (Mathis) Streater on July 1, 1939 in Wewoka. He was a farmer, rancher, oilfield pumper, and school bus driver for Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech, retiring in 1999. Streater was a member of the First Assembly of God in Wewoka. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one grandson, Randall Lee Streater; an infant brother, and four sisters. Streater is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Trevia Streater, Wewoka; and Henry and Connie Streater, Ada; two daughters and son-in-law, Carolyn Curry and Bonita and Merle Jay, all of Wewoka; one brother, Orville Streater, Ft. Myers, Fla.; one sister, Molly Streater, Enid; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Mike and Kim Streater, Dewayne and Julie Streater, Rick and Suan Streater, Heath and Christy Streater, Dathan and Nicole Jay, Robin and B.J. Justice, Denese and Nick Cheatwood, and Stephanie Jay; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Inez and Stan Symons, Seminole; Sondra Patterson, Oklahoma City; Barbara Sarton, Waco, Texas; and Marvin Adams, Henryetta. Casket bearers are Streater’s grandsons. Honorary casket bearer is Nick Cheatwood.

Tessie ‘Nell’ Majors

Funeral services for Tessie “Nell” Majors were scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Trout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Bagley officiating. Rev. Mark Shorey and Rev. Robert Majors will officiate. Burial was set to follow at 3 p.m. at Little Cemetery. Majors died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at the age of 85. She was born Nov. 9, 1915 in Seminole. She married Wilburn Majors in June of 1936. Majors worked briefly for Van Winkles Menswear as a seamstress and bookkeeper but was a homemaker most of her life. She has been a member of Ponca City’s First Assembly of God Church since 1972 and was a member of the Friendly Bible Class. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Harrison and Mary Ella (Earles) Drewery; a brother, Bill Drewery; an infant son, Charles Alexander Majors; and an infant granddaughter. Majors is survived by her husband, of Ponca City; a brother, Harrison Drewery, of Moberly, Mo.; a daughter, Nancy Overall, of Ponca City; three sons, Wilburn “Dub” Majors Jr., of Tulsa, Tony Majors, of Houston, and Lee Majors of Houston; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the Nell Majors Memorial Fund at First Assembly of God, 1308 E. Bradley, Ponca City, OK 74601.

Bessie Kennedy

Graveside funeral services for former Konawa resident Bessie Kennedy were held yesterday at Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home. Charlie Hewthorn officiated. Kennedy died Oct. 3, 2001 at the age of 87 at Nature Trail Home in Mt. Vernon, Ill. She was born Oct. 2, 1914 in Konawa to George S. and Nancy Ellen (Seay) Bradley. She married Henry H. Kennedy Nov. 13, 1933 in San Angelo, Texas. Kennedy was employed for several years in the school lunch program in San Angelo. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Temple. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Patsy Nelson; three brothers; and two sisters. Kennedy is survived by one son, Henry Kennedy, Mt. Vernon, Ill.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Daniel Bradley, Ada, and Loyd Bradley, Oklahoma City; two sisters, Zelma Schavy, Durant, and Eva Gibson, Oklahoma City.

Phyllis McMicheal

Graveside funeral services for Seminole resident Phyllis Loraine (Hack) McMicheal were scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today at Maple Grove under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Rev. Nolan Sluder, her brother-in-law, will officiate. McMicheal died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001 at her home in Seminole at the age of 71. She was born Nov. 30, 1929 in Seminole to Charles Thomas and Martha Elizabeth (Taylor) Hack. She married Gerald W. McMicheal on June 3, 1950 in Oklahoma City. McMicheal was a homemaker and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of Confederate States Chapters in Oklahoma City. She held several offices in both organizations. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Clyde Hack; and her daughter, Janice McMicheal. McMicheal is survived by her husband, of the home; one son, Gail Warren McMicheal, Seminole; one stepson, Woody Dancer, Moore; one brother, Louis Hack, Seminole; two sisters, Edith Clark, Shawnee, and Mildred Sluder, Tyler, Texas, three stepgrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Helen Fowler

Helen Northam Fowler passed away on Oct. 4, 2001 in Lansing, Mich. following a lengthy illness. She was 83 years old. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Burdeanna and Alford Welch, of Lansing, Mich., and Sharon and Robert Gregg of Nashville, Tenn.; three grandsons, Stephen Welch of Lansing, Mich., and Christopher and Michael Gregg of Nashville, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Burvle F. Fowler, in 1997; her parents, Benjamin Newton and Margaret (Robertson) Harrison Northam; her brothers, Floyd Northam, E.G. Northam and L.C. Harrison; and her sisters, Esther Williams, Gladys Christy, Beatrice Ashby, Mattie Smith, and Neva Harrison. Mrs. Fowler was born on Feb. 1, 1918 in Seminole County and attended Central School. On Aug. 24, 1935 she married Burvle Fowler. They lived in the Wolf community for some 25 years before transferred by Sinclair Oil to New Mexico in 1960. The Fowlers returned to Seminole in 1967 where Mr. Fowler retired in 1977. In 1986 the Fowlers moved to Nashville, Tenn. and lived there for six years before going to Lansing, Mich. Mrs. Fowler was a homemaker and was active in church and community activities. During the 1950’s, she was the Wolf community correspondent for The Seminole Producer. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club; she served on the Election Board; and she helped organize the first alumni banquet for Wolf High School. She was active in the Baptist Church wherever she lived and was a Sunday School teacher at Wolf Baptist Church, Bowlegs Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Tatum, N.M., and First Baptist Church of Seminole. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. and the funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Gardens.

Helen Fowler

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Helen N. Fowler are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home. Fowler’s family will officiate the services. Burial is set to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Fowler died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001 at Liberty Court Assisted Living Center in Lansing, Mich. She was 83. She was born Feb. 1, 1918 in Seminole. Fowler married Burvle F. Fowler Aug. 24, 1935 near Ada. She was a homemaker and a local reporter for the Wolf Community and for The Seminole Producer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Seminole and later a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Lansing. Fowler lived in Seminole most of her life, but also spent time in New Mexico, Tennessee, and Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband on April 15, 1997. She is survived by two daughters, Helen Burdeanna of East Lansing, and Sharon Kaye of Nashville, Tenn.; and three grandsons. Visitation will be at Swearingen Chapel Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. before the 10:30 a.m. service. Memorials may be made to the Fowler-Gregg Orchestra Scholarship at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.

Tony Jobe

Graveside funeral services for Ada resident Tony Jobe are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Little Cemetery under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home.
Don Smith will officiate.

Jobe died Thursday at an Ada hospital at the age of 46.

He was born Feb. 28, 1955 in Oklahoma City to Fern and Tony Jobe Sr.

He attended school in Oklahoma City and lived there until moving to Ada six years ago.

Jobe was an automotive mechanic.

He was married to Ida Butler on Oct. 6, 1980 in Oklahoma City.

He was a member of Grace Community Church and the Clubhouse in Ada.

Jobe is survived by his wife, of Ada; three sons, Boyd Wilson, Tupelo, Warner Wilson and Tony Jobe, both of Beaver; two daughters, Dawn Wilson, Tupelo, and Tammy Terry, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; one brother, David Dobyns, Oklahoma City; four sisters, Lillie Matthews, Stratford, Carol Matthews, Oklahoma City, Edna Stubblefield, Oklahoma City, and Lois.

Bearers will be Tony Jobe III, Warner Wilson, Boyd Wilson, Danny Compton, Douglas Compton, and Jason Carroll.
