George Wilcox

Funeral services for Seminole resident George Earl Wilcox are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial is set to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Wilcox died Thursday at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 62. He lived most of his life in Seminole, moving here from Ada. He was born April 24, 1939 in Latta to George B. and Earline (Taylor) Wilcox. Wilcox married Norma J. (Smith) Wilcox Nov. 20, 1982 in Seminole. He was an independent oil producer for AtlanticRichfield. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Seafarers International Union. Wilcox was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Susan Wilcox. He is survived by his wife, Norma Wilcox, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Tina Wilcox of Everett, Wash., and Tim and Heather Wilcox of Tucson, Ariz.; one daughter, Cindy Wilcox of Hugo; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Greg and DeAnn Smith of Grove; step-daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Mike Marker of Bixby; three grandchildren, April, Summer, and Jackson; and seven step-grandchildren, Briana, Stephanie, Shane, Chad, Trey, Grahmm, and Ian.

Clayton Colvin

Clayton “Clay/Rocky” Colvin, 73, Shawnee passed away at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at home after a swift yet courageous battle with cancer. Known near and far for his beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables, he will be missed by many; for seldom did friend, family or stranger leave without a few seeds, a new plant, a sack of onions or just a deeper appreciation for nature itself. His “walks around the place” were a delight for young and old alike. Often Friday and Saturday mornings found him at local yard sales and later the same evening at a nearby Senior Citizen’s dancing till close with Barbara and their many friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Benny Mathews and Robert Major officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. He was born to Charlie Harlan Colvin and Addie (Vance) Colvin on June 25, 1928 in Pawnee County. Clayton married Barbara Ann (Majors) Harper on June 4, 1965 in Seminole. He was a gauger for KerrMcGee and retired in 1990 after 37 years. Clayton was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from Aug. 17, 1946 to Dec. 11, 1947. He was also a member of the American Legion. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; and one step-son, Keith Harper, in 1983. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Colvin, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Alan R. and Mary Colvin, Choctaw; one daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Bryan Shetley, Harrah; one stepdaughter, Teresa Harper, of the home; one brother, Charles Colvin, Jr., Conroe, Texas; two sisters, Eva Dunn, Oklahoma City, and Agatha Christian, Siloam Springs, Ark.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are nephews and grandsons. Honorary bearers are KerrMcGee employees.

Lucian Cotanny

A memorial service for Konawa resident Lucian Jay Cotanny is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2001 at Pickard Funeral Home Chapel. Cotanny died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001 at the age of 52. He was born to Jennie (Coon) and Wilford Cotanny on March 18, 1949 in Los Angeles, Calif. Cotanny married Catherine (Morgan) in Oklahoma City on March 17, 1979. He was a member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Cotanny spent the last 17 years in Konawa. He is preceded in death by his father. Cotanny is survived by his wife, Catherine, of the home; three sons, Grant Cotanny, Tecumseh, Allen Cotanny, Lawton, and Waylon Cotanny, Ada; two daughters, Tina Tuberville, Harrah and Angela Cotanny, of the home; his mother, Jennie Cotanny, one brother Dennis Cotanny, and two sisters, Bianca Lawrence and Di Anne Wheeler, all of Konawa; and seven grandchildren.

Virginia Baker

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Virginia Lee Baker are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. David Karges will officiate. Burial is set to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Baker died yesterday at Vosswood Nursing Center in Houston, Texas at the age of 75. She was born Aug. 4, 1926 in Checotah to Jeffrey and Olivia (White) Cathon. She married Robert A. Baker Aug. 28, 1945 in Seminole. He preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1996. Baker was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a Seminole resident for 55 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Baker is survived by two sons, Robert A. Baker Jr., Anaheim, Calif. and Michael E. Baker, Houston; one daughter, Kellye Fazio, Detroit, Mich.; one sister, Louise Back, Mission, Texas; and nine grandchildren. Casket bearers are scheduled to be Bob Webster, D.D. Patterson, Bob Williams, Ray Guthrie, Doyle Johnson, and Charles Johnston.

Marvin Patterson

Graveside funeral services for Konawa resident Marvin Eldred Patterson are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home. Rev. Charlie Henthorn will officiate. He died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001 in Konawa at the age of 82. He was born Feb. 13, 1919 in Talihina to Ruth Ann and Archie Lee Patterson. Patterson married Eva Mae (Edwards) in Talihina on June 19, 1940. He was a retired civil service worker who spent the last 26 years in Konawa. He was a veteran of World War II. Patterson was preceded in death by his wife and two brothers, R.L. Patterson and Conrad Patterson. He is survived by three sons, Marvin Patterson, Konawa, Terry Patterson, Denton, Texas, and Brad Patterson, Midwest City; one brother, Charles Patterson, Emmitt, Ark.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Ruby Wells

Graveside funeral services for Seminole resident Ruby (Hurst) Moore Wells were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Rev. Harold Turner will officiate. Wells died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001 at Norman Regional Hospital at the age of 84. She was born Aug. 14, 1917 in Carr City to Ethel Grace (Bowers) and John Charles Hurst Sr. She married Floyd Moore, who preceded her in death in 1987. Wells later married Lloyd “Curly” Wells. She was a cattle rancher and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; one infant sister, Opal Hurst; and one brother, J.C. Hurst Jr. Wells is survived by her husband, of Seminole; two sisters, Pearl Bayne, Gulfport, Miss., and Jody Osborn, Seminole; and one brother, J.W. “Red” Hurst, of Seminole.

Tena Grooms

Graveside funeral services for Tena May (Martin) Grooms are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Little Cemetery with Gary Gregg officiating. Burial is under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home. Grooms died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2001 at the age of 41. She was born Feb. 25, 1960 in Seminole to Otis Carl Martin and Forestena (Selfridge) Shipman. She had worked for True Loves Pool Hall off and on for 15 years, True Loves Car Wash part time for 10 years, and Oliver’s Pub for two years. Grooms was also secretary at the State Insurance Commissioners Department in Oklahoma City. She was of the Catholic faith. Grooms was preceded in death by her grandparents. She is survived by one son, Charles “Bo” Dewayne Grooms, Oklahoma City; her mother and stepfather, Forestena and Donnie Shipman of Moore; and one sister, Ann Sober, White Hall, Pa.

Edgar Miller

Graveside funeral services for Edgar Sullivant Miller are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Little Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Miller died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2001 in Tulsa at the age of 68. He was born in Moscow, Tenn. to Bessie Maw (Holmes) and James Edgar Miller. He was a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Navy and later retired as an electrician. Miller is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one son; and one great-grandchild. He is survived by his children, Debbie Kerry, Battlecreek, Mich., Pam Glander, Dianna Clark, Wetumka, Debie Miller, Ventura, Calif., Genia Sims and Kim Rico, Yuma, Ariz., Beau Miller, Ojai, Calif.; and his siblings, Lillie Mae Hensley, Waverly, Ind., Bill Miller, East Prairie, Mo., Harold Miller, Locust, N.C., Johnnie Miller, Owensboro, Ky., Clay Miller, East Prairie, Mo., George Miller, North, S.C., and Roger Miller, Chicago, Ill. Pallbearers are to be Bill Miller, Joe Holmes, James Holmes, Tony Clark II, Desmond Clark, and Jamie Clark. Honorary pallbearers are Tony Clark, Zacary Clark, and Michael Clark.

Don Landrum

Funeral services for Don D. Landrum are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday in the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Rev. Henry Braisher officiating. Interment is set to follow at Paden Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home. Landrum died Monday at Mission Hill Hospital in Shawnee at the age of 64. He was born July 24, 1937 near Seminole to Elmer Huston and Bessie Lee (Dawson) Landrum. He lived in Shawnee the past five years, moving there from El Reno where he owned Statewide Courier Service for the last 10 years. Landrum had attended Capitol Hill Baptist Church. He married Betty Fry in 1959 in California. He was preceded in death by his parents. Landrum is survived by one son, Jason Landrum, Mannford; three daughters, Landi Martinez, Norman, Shanda Landrum, Shawnee, and Susan Landrum, Dallas, Texas; three brothers, Junior Landrum, Seminole, Jack Landrum, Cromwell, and Joyce Kenneth Landrum, Lexington; four sisters, Odrey Muncy, Oklahoma City, Jo Ann Rehage, Covington, La., Doretha Lowery, Wanette, and Syble Berry, Oklahoma City; and five grandchildren.

Opal Jenkins

Graveside funeral services for longtime Sasakwa resident Opal Omega Jenkins are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Rev. Larry Chesser will officiate. Jenkins died Sunday in Holdenville at the age of 87. She was born Aug. 24, 1914 in Sasakwa to Eva (Caudill) and Isaac Newton Foster. She married Elmer Jenkins Sept. 3, 1935 at the courthouse in Holdenville. Jenkins was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Janie Jenkins Fraser; two sisters, Bonnie and Ruby Foster; and six brothers, Rance, Jim, Willie, Loyd, Elmer, and Buck Foster. She is survived by her husband, of the home; two sisters, Pauline Lollar, Wewoka, and Gladys Kircklan, Okmulgee; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Emma Franks

Funeral services for Emma Franks, the sister of a Wewoka resident, were scheduled to be held at 1:30 today at the HudsonPhillips Funeral Chapel. Rev. Walter McGirt and Rev. Edward Lee Bear were set to officiate. Burial was to follow at Cedar River Baptist Church under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Franks died Saturday in Carl Albert Hospital in Ada at the age of 84. She was born June 4, 1917 to Edmond and Liza Att in Holdenville and lived in Hughes County all her life. She married Taylor Franks. He preceded her in death in June of 1991. Franks worked at the Boyce Manor Nursing Home and the Street Car Café. She was a member of the Cedar River Baptist Church. She is survived by three children, Charlie Franks, Betty Taylor, and Susie Eskamire, all of Holdenville; three brothers, Walter McGirt, Moore, Jimmy McGirt, Wewoka, and William McGirt, Oklahoma City; two sisters, Togie Harjo and Elsie Faulkner, both of Holdenville; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Sarah Richards

Funeral services for Sarah Verene Richards are scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Wadley’s Funeral Chapel in Purcell. Pastor Perry Justus will officiate. Burial is set to follow at Noble IOOF Cemetery in Noble under the direction of Wadley’s Funeral Service. Richards died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001 at the Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 60. She was born April 6, 1941 in Floydada, Texas, to Henry Freemon and Tommie Denison Dye. She attended LPN school at Plainview, Texas. On Aug. 8, 1959, Richards married Louie V. Richards in Plainview. She a member of the Wewoka First Assembly of God Church. She was a homemaker and devoted grandmother. Richards enjoyed cooking, crocheting, sewing, gardening, singing, art work and music. She was preceded in death by her father; her stepfather, Robert L. Fisher; and two brothers, Glenn Dye and Emmett Dye. She is survived by her husband, Louie Richards Sr., of the home; her mother, of Lexington; one son, Louie V. Richards Jr., Wewoka; one daughter, Kay Lynn Hasbell, Seminole; two brothers, James “Hank” Dye and Tommy Dye, both of Lexington; three sisters, Norma Gene Gepner, Bruceville, Texas, Gloria Ann Phillips, Ballinger, Texas, and Linda Lee Daniels, Slaughterville; and five grandchildren. Casket bearers will be Kenneth Daniels, Ronald Greeson, Robert Knapp, David Dye, Lonnie Holmes, and Jacob Lujan. Honorary bearers will be Hank Dye, Leon Dye, Roy Gepner Sr., Leland Bilbrey, Shayne Bilbrey, and Roy Gepner Jr. The family requests donations be made to the First Assembly of God Church in Wewoka.

Lena Cathey

Graveside funeral services for former Seminole resident Lena Jean (Sanford) Cathey are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate. Cathey died Sunday in Houston at the age of 78. She was born March 20, 1923 in Non to Arthur and Marie (Tharp) Sanford. She married Arthur Odell Cathey July 19, 1945 in Fort Smith, Ark. He preceded her in death June 28, 1988. Cathey was a homemaker and a member of Harvey Road Baptist Church and Ideal Street Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Linda Carter, Houston, Texas; two sons, Roger Levingston, Gerty, and Dwayne Cathey, Sand Springs; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, R.L. “Link” Sanford, Lindsay, Coolidge Sanford, Non, and Kinley Sanford, Lindsay; and four sisters, Maymie Gentry, Tecumseh, Leta Gray, Shawnee, Lou Wesselhoft, Tecumseh, and Mary Marie Bruce, Wichita Falls, Texas.
