Melvern Crawford

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Melvern Richard Crawford were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Chris Stinnett was to officiate. Burial was set to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Crawford died Saturday at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 74. He was born June 20, 1927 in Drumright to Jack and Martha Marie (Horrocks) Crawford. He married Eldora Crawford in 1954 in Shawnee. She preceded him in death in 1977. Crawford was a retired engineer from Tinker Air Force Base. He was a veteran of the United States Army and received a WWII victory medal. He was also a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Park and Seminole Street. Crawford was preceded in death by his wife and his father. He is survived by his mother, of the home; one stepdaughter, Janice Hill, Oklahoma City; two stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Casket bearers were scheduled to be Roy Winrow, Jimmy Tunnell, A.C. Reese, Ron Stanberry, A.C. Bundy, Harold Swann, and Gerald Carney.

Bessie Moore

Graveside funeral services for Seminole resident Bessie Ida Moore are scheduled for Friday at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Moore died Friday at Pioneer Nursing Home at the age of 80. She was a longtime Seminole resident who was born May 13, 1921 in Roff to Edward and Lilly Elizabeth (Sanford) Mardis. She married Clarence C. Moore on June 3, 1939 in Ada. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1990. Moore was a homemaker. She is survived by one sister, Frances Jones.

Wilma Berry

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Wilma Mae Berry are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. David Karges will officiate. Burial is set to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Berry died Wednesday, September 26, 2001 at Hot Spring Medical Center in Malvern, Ariz. at the age of 94. She was a resident of Seminole for over 40 years before moving to Malvern over five years ago. She was born Sept. 12, 1907 in Macy, Ind. to James and Nora (Butler) Sampsel. Berry married Noble Berry. For many years she wrote a senior citizen’s column for The Seminole Producer. While in Seminole, she was on the Housing Authority Board of Directors and did volunteer work with the Heritage House. In 1987, she was recognized as the Outstanding Senior Citizen of Seminole. Berry was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Chester and Billy McMillin; one daughter, Betty Carter; and two grandsons. She is survived by one son, James H. McMillin.

Russell Soward

Funeral services for former Seminole County oil field worker Russell Soward are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Stroud. Rev. Burl Mackey will officiate. Burial will follow in Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service. Soward died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001 in Stroud at the age of 72. He was born in Hominy on March 9, 1929 to Everett and Martha Soward. He moved to Stroud in 1953 and worked as a drilling consultant. Soward married Jane Carter in Fairfield, Ill. on Aug. 26, 1948. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, of the home; one son, Gary Soward, Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Terry Crofford, Stroud; two brothers, Raymond Soward, Tulsa, and Gene Soward, Broken Arrow; two sisters, Helen Irving, Tulsa, and Wanda Turner, Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Wilburn Williams

Wilburn Williams was born Aug. 28, 1916 in Garvin County to Henry and Parlee Williams. He moved to the Sasakwa area as a youth and spent most of his life in the Sasakwa area. Mr. Williams worked in Tipton, Calif. in the dairy business for a few years and returned to Sasakwa where he and his wife operated the Sasakwa Café and Williams Auto Garage until his retirement. Wilburn was married to Thelma (Clayton) Williams Sept. 7, 1947 in Seminole and to this marriage two children were born. Mr. Williams was an avid fisherman and spent a lot of time fishing the area lakes and rivers. He was an outstanding mechanic. Mr. Williams’ survivors are his wife, Thelma, of the home; a daughter, Norma, and a son-in-law, Donnie Blankenship, of Sasakwa; a son, Michael (Mike) of the home; one brother, Virgil Williams, of Holdenville; one brother-inlaw, Ervin Clayton, of Wewoka; one sister-in-law, Ina Clayton, of Holdenville; two grandchildren, David Blankenship, of Ada, and on Lori Rubottom, of Wewoka; one great-grandchild, Amiee Blankenship; and a host of friends. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2001 at Stout Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Ervin E. Clayton will officiate. Family will receive visitors Thursday at the family home (405) 941-3341 in Sasakwa from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Claudie Mullins

Funeral services for Konawa resident Claudie Elizabeth Mullins are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Pickard Chapel. Rev Ed George will officiate. Burial is set to follow at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home. Mullins died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001 at the age of 90. She was born Feb. 3, 1911 in Marshall, Ariz. to Annie and Walter Garrison. She married Ben Mullins in Prue on Dec. 25, 1927. Mullins was a retired Konawa Nursing Home Employee. She moved to Konawa in 1933. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Hughie and Jay Mullins; three daughters, Alma Green, Betty Ramsey, Molly Hill, and four grandchildren. Mullins is survived by two sons, Louie Mullins, Konawa, and Benny Mullins, Aurora, Colo.; one daughter, Leoma Barley, Dumas, Texas; three sisters, Earcie, Mae, and Annie Lee; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Susie Welch

Funeral services for Sasakwa resident Susie Welch were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Sasakwa. Pastor James Hopkins officiated. Interment followed at Lone Dove Cemetery in Sasakwa under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Welch died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital at the age of 54. She was born June 4, 1947 in Konawa. She served as a Licensed Practical Nurse for several years. Welch was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Glen Welch. She is survived by her parents, Opal and Howard O’Daniel, Ada; one daughter, Shelly Choate, Sasakwa; two sisters, Brenda Hudson, Sasakwa, and Wilba Roebuck, Comanche; and one grandson. Pallbearers were Michael Hudson, Jeff Hudson, Kerry Hudson, Wesley Jones, Ryan Peters, and Danny Jackson.

Donald Ricketts

Graveside services for Seminole County resident Donald Joe Ricketts were scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Sand Creek Cemetery in Cromwell, under the direction of Schumacher Funeral Home, Okemah. Rev. Jimmy Whisnant will officiate the services. Ricketts died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001 in Seminole at the age of 67. He was born to John Bee Ricketts and Nellie Crawford Ricketts on May 28, 1934 in Okemah. Ricketts was a lifetime resident of the Cromwell-Bearden area, and was the greens keeper and school system custodian at Bearden Schools before his retirement. He served with the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956. Ricketts is survived by one daughter, Joyce Donnell Underwood, Bearden; two brothers, Eddie Ricketts, Shawnee and Arthur (Toby) Ricketts, Moore; four sisters, Wanda Butler, Shawnee, Carolyn Gregory, Bixby, Kathy Gwaltney, Prudo Bay, Alaska, and Cindy Granado, Kermit, Texas; and two granchildren.

Mary Beaver

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Mary Beaver were scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Sand Creek Eufaula Indian Baptist Church, southwest of Wewoka. Interment will follow at the Limestone Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Rev. Houston Tiger will officiate the services. Beaver died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001 at the Carl Albert Indian Health Facilities, Ada, at the age of 53. She was born on Aug. 1, 1948 to John Spencer and Alice Harjo in Seminole County. She married Tom Beaver in 1971 and was a housewife until the time of her death. Beaver was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one great-grandchild. She is survived her husband, Tom, of the home; nine children, Donnell Gordon, Benny Gordon, Mae Etta Gordon, Tommy George Beaver, Tom Little Beaver, Freddie James Beaver, Regina Renee Beaver, Mary Elizabeth Beaver, and Thomas Beaver; three brothers, Cloyd Harjo, David Spencer and Redman Spencer; two sisters, Elsie Mae Harjo and Ruby Hill; 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers are Eastman Johnson, Richard Cotton, E.J. Bird Creek, Daniel Spencer, Shawn Spencer, and Richmond Spencer, Jr.

Claude Eakens

Funeral services for Konawa resident Claude Clayton Eakens are scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Pickard Chapel. Rev. Robert Teel and Rev. Darrell Stinett will officiate. Burial is set to follow at Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home. Eakens died Monday in Maud at the age of 64. He was born Aug. 14, 1937 in Okemah to Ada and Walter Eakens. He married Flora Belle in Gainesville, Texas June 9, 1989. Eakens was a mechanic who spent most of his life in the Konawa area. He is survived by his wife, of the home.

David Green

Funeral services for former Konawa resident David Raphael Green are scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Mathew Brown will officiate. O.S.B. burial is set to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home. Rosary will be tonight at 6 p.m. in the Pickard Chapel. Green died Monday in Oklahoma City at the age of 76. He was born Aug. 28, 1925 in Stratford to Mary and William Green. He grew up in the Konawa area and was a member of Sacred Heart Church. Green was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by one brother, Bill Green, Jenks; and two sisters, Lisa Scott, Seminole, and Annette Miller, Sasakwa.

Brown Mixon

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Brown Mixon were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Oildale Church of Christ in Bakersfield, Calif. The church elders and Ed Paphert, neighbor, officiated the services. Burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, under the direction of Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Bakersfield, Calif. Mixon died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001 in Bakersfield, Calif. He was born to Redden Kay and Mildora (Robertson) Mixon on Oct. 1, 1912 in Wolf. Mixon married Clara Mildred Ashby on Sept. 24, 1932 in Bowlegs. A few years after marriage, they moved to California. Mixon was forman for Melter Ranches in Tehachapi and Wasco, Calif. until 1970. He then joined his son, Larry, in Mixon Realty before his retirement in 1985. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Robert and Garland; and his son, Larry. Mixon is survived by his wife, Clara, of the home; one daughter, Dorothy Medlock, Fresno, Calif.; five brothers, Foster Mixon, Bakersfield, Calif., B.W. Buchanan, Seminole, Ernest Buchanan, Maud, H.B. Wylie, Midwest City, and Homer Ashby, Wichita, Kan.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Norma Williams

Funeral services for Seminole resident Norma Edith Williams were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Allen Wood officiated the service. Burial followed at Wolf Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Williams died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001 at her home in Seminole. at the age of 90. She was born to Isaac and Belle (Harrison) Oakes on Jan. 20, 1911 in Maud. She married Early W. Williams on June 4, 1927 in Maud. Williams was a lifelong Seminole County resident. She was a homemaker, and was a member of Wolf Freewill Baptist Church. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one grandson, Mike Sullivan; three brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by one son, Earl Williams, Wewoka; two daughters, Belle Roberts, Springdale, Ark., and Frances Tolle, Boron, Calif.; two sisters, Tommie Lawler, Seminole, and Johnnie Ferguson, Prague; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Joe Moon, Larry Bicknell, Michael Jones, Gary Garnatz, Jared Garnatz, and Terry Watkins.
