Funeral services for Seminole resident Grace Mahan are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Kevin Moseley will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Mahan died Sunday at Seminole Estates Nursing Home at the age of 96. She was born May 12, 1905 in Wagner to James and Elizabeth Mann. She married John Mahan on Dec. 1, 1928. Mahan was Postmaster at Roland prior to her marriage. After her marriage she was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Gilstrap, Howe, Texas; one sister, Jayne Said, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Lowell Bailey
Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Lowell "Bub" Bailey are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Oklahoma City. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Seminole. Bailey died Friday, July 20 at the age of 63. He was born to Loyal W. and Aline Bailey on Aug. 20, 1937 in Shamrock. He grew up in Seminole but, at the time of his death, was a resident of Oklahoma City. Bailey was a barber and a member of BPOE. He was preceded in death by his father. Bailey is survived by his wife, Doris, of the home; his mother, Aline Bailey, Oklahoma City, two children, Belinda Walker, Ft. Smith, Ark., and Terri Bailey, Oklahoma City; and two grandchildren.
Minnie Myers
Funeral services for Seminole resident Minnie Myers are scheduled for 1 p.m., Friday, July 10. Rev. C.L. Prevost will officiate. Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Keller Funeral Home. Myers died July 13, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital at the age of 92. She was born Dec. 23, 1908 in Seminole County to Dave and Isadore Buekner. She grew up in Cromwell and graduated from high school in Topeka, Kans. Myers attended Langston University. She married S.M. Myers on April 5, 1939. She was a retired teacher a member of Middle Creek Baptist Church in Sasakwa. Myers also was a volunteer for the Seminole Nation Museum and Historical Society. She is survived by her husband, S.M. Myers, of Wewoka; two sisters Verna Taliaferro, Tulsa, and Vernice Howard, Albuquerque, N.M. Pallbearers will be Delbert Burnett, Dominic Burnett, Maurice Scott, Royal Taliaferro, Jr., and Willie Guient. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Moore, Basil Phillips, Clyde Spencer, J.B. Thurmond, and Eddie Smith, Sr.
Josh Hawkins
Funeral services for Ada resident Josh Micah “Sasquatch” Hawkins are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Snake Creek Church. Rev. Larry Hawkins, Rev. Jeff Frazier, and Rev. Bill Hobia will officiate. Hawkins died Sunday, July 15, 2001 in Holdenville at the age of 16. He was born April 10, 1985 to Jimmy and Carol (Harjo) Hawkins. He was a lifelong resident of Ada and a sophomore at Byng High School. Hawkins was taken home until Wednesday evening when he will be taken to Snake Creek Church. The family will open the grave. He was preceded in death by his mother; grandmother, Lucy Harjo; and grandfather, John Hawkins. Hawkins is survived by his father, Jimmy Hawkins, of Ada; one sister, Derekah Hawkins Kilcrease, of Ada; four brothers, Casey Hawkins, Kelly Hawkins, and Toby Hawkins, all of Ada, and Jimmy E. Hawkins, PFC, of San Diego, Calif.; one grandmother, Evelyn Hawkins, of Ada; one grandfather, Edmond Harjo, of Ada; and family members in Little. Pallbearers will be James Harjo, James Richard, Tony Fixico, Eddie Wright, Toby Hawkins, and Jimmy H awkins.
James Narcomey
Funeral services for Wewoka resident James Narcomey are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mekusukey Indian Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Hobia officiating. A wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Narcomey died Tuesday, July 17th at Holdenville General Hospital at the age of 91. He was born to Peter James Cheparaney Narcomey and Lucy (Stamp) Narcomey on Sept. 21, 1909 in Seminole County. Narcomey married Martha (Jones) Narcomey who preceded him in death on Dec. 9, 1984. Narcomey was a lifelong Seminole County resident and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was deacon at the Mekusukey Indian Baptist Church, and was also a retired carpenter and roofer. Narcomey was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Thomas Narcomey; five brothers and one sister. He is survived by two sons, Cecil Narcomey, Tulsa, and Noah Narcomey, Denver, Colo.; three brothers, Phillip Narcomey, Lawton, Andrew Narcomey, Del City, and Paul Narcomey, Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Wisey Narcomey, Bowlegs; and six granchildren.
James Redwine
Funeral services for Seminole resident James Elbert Redwine are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Belford and Dr. James Sill officiating. Burial will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman. Redwine died Tuesday at Integrated Specialists in Midwest City at the age of 87. He was born to James Burdick Redwine and Puella (Grissom) Redwine on May 15, 1914 in Norman. Redwine and his family moved to Seminole in 1927, after spending his first 13 years in Norman. He graduated from Seminole High School and attended Oklahoma University where he studied journalism. Redwine was a self-employed businessman and was a charter member of the First Christian Church of Seminole. He is preceded in death by his parents. Redwine is survived by an uncle, Bob Redwine, Houston, Texas; and a multitude of cousins and friends.
Lloyd Sanders
Funeral services for Lloyd L. Sanders, father of Maud resident Bobbie Palmer, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Avoca Church of Christ in Asher with the Rev. Dallas Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at the Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Knight Funeral Home in Maud. Sanders died Sunday at Shawnee Regional Hospital at the age of 86. He was born to Thomas Garrett Sanders and Laura Bessie (Davis) Sanders on Nov. 20, 1914 in Tribbey. Sanders married Ethel E. Chambers on July 6, 1933 in Macomb. He was a lifelong resident of Asher, and was president of Sanders Laboratory and was also a rancher. Sanders was a member of the Avoca Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his wife, one brother and two sisters. Sanders is survived by one son, Kenneth Sanders, Tecumseh; three daughters, Bobbie Palmer, Maud, Towana Gober, Bethel Acres, and Linda Milburn, Tecumseh; one brother, Jack Sanders, Pearson; one sister, Aleta Pettit, Pearson; 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren.
Biva Palmer
Funeral services for Maud resident Biva Mae Palmer are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the First Assembly of God Church in Maud with the Rev. Tim Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh. Palmer died Friday in Maud at the age of 78. She was born to Carlous Cleveland and Hettie Angline (Casey) Martin on July 8, 1923 in Newton County, Ark. Palmer moved to Oklahoma as a child with her parents and was reared at Punkin Center, southeast of Maud. She attended Central School and lived in the Seminole and Maud area most of her life. Palmer was a provider in home health care. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Maud. Palmer is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bois Martin; and two sisters, Marie Hopper and Vala Dee Lewis. She is survived by two sons, Elmer C. Hooper, Ada, and Louis R. Hooper, Tecumseh; one brother Rev. Lois Martin, Maud; one sister, Jessie Self, Seminole; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Bessie Kernal
Funeral services for Seminole resident Bessie Kernal are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at Church of Christ in Little. Rusty Dawson will officiate. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Kernal died in Seminole Saturday, July 14, 2001, at the age of 86. She was a life-long resident of Seminole County. She was born Nov. 25, 1914 at the Twin Oaks community north of Seminole to Edward Franklin and Annie Bell Brown. She married Eugene Kernal on Oct. 11, 1935 in Okmulgee. He preceded her in death on Nov. 28 1989. Kernal was a housewife and a member of the Church of Christ in Little. She is survived by one sister, Maudean Sarvash of Woodward; one brother, E.E. Brown of Seminole; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Burma Kernal and Dickie and Carolyn Kernal, both of Seminole; three daughters and sons-in-law, Colleen Sebourn of Maud, Deloris and Morris Jackson of Norman and Teresa and Thad Ashcraft of Seminole; 11 grandchildren, Allyson Jackson, Thad Ashcraft, Cheradyn Kernal, Brent Kernal, Melissa Knox, Randy Ashcraft, Todd Kernal, Stephanie Kernal, Mark Jackson, Chad Kernal and Matthew Jackson; and 13 great-grandchildren, Matthew Jackson, Matthew Kernal, Lindsy Knox, Mandi Jackson, Casady Ashcraft, Lexi Ashcraft, Taylor Ashcraft, Ashley Kernal, Blake Ashcraft, Jared Ashcraft, Aliya Kernal, Averey Kernal and Cale Ashcraft. Her grandsons will be casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers are Buster Pace, Eugene Warrenburg, Larry Vickers, Dempsey Chesser, Jeff Davis and Howard Byerly.
Esloney Cully
Funeral services for longtime Konawa resident Esloney B. Cully, 66, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Pickard Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of the funeral home. Cully died Friday, July 13,m 2001 in Ada. He was born Aug. 11, 1934 in Vamoosa to John and Nancy (Lee) Cully. Although employed in Oklahoma City, Cully lived most of his life in the Konawa area. He was a member of the Bird Creek Baptist Church. He was married to Betty Jane (Underwood) Cully in Wewoka; she preceded him in death. Cully was also preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include two sons, John Edward Cully, Konawa and Micheal Lee Cully, Ada; two daughters, Barbara Gaines, Ada, and Phyllis Bigpond Cully, California; one brother, Richmond Cully, Konawa; one sister, Peggy Mahone, Oklahoma City; and seven grandchildren.
Julie Ann Dutton
Graveside services for Konawa resident Julie Ann Dutton are scheduled to be held Saturday, July 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Greenhill Cemetery in Lindsay with the Rev. Robert Teel officiating. She died Thursday at the age of 88. Dutton was born Sunday, Jan. 19, 1913 in Konawa to Georgia Anna (Fields) and Russell Samuel Timmons. Dutton was a homemaker who was preceded in death by her first husband, William Clarence Hughes, and her second husband, Harvey Dutton. She is survived by three daughters, Clara Rosetta Brooks, Konawa, Carolyn King and Louise Clark, both of Lindsay; three sons, Alan Dutton, Carl Dutton, and Edward Dutton all of Lindsay; 27 grandchildren, 58 grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.
Lyman Berrie
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Lyman M. Berrie are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Stanley Buckmaster officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home, Wewoka. Berrie passed away on Monday at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 83. He was born to Lyman and Lizzie (Taylor) Berrie on Jan. 14, 1918. Berrie married Elizabeth (Connie) Kundrack in St. Clair, Pa. In 1946 the couple made their home in Wewoka. Both were very active members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Seminole where Berrie also held the title of treasurer until his retirement. He is a past president of the Wewoka Rotary Club and he ran the Berrie Radio and Television Store on 2nd Street in Wewoka for numerous years. Lyman also served in the South Pacific in World War II. He is preceded in death by his wife and parents. Lyman is survived by two sister-in-laws, Lillian Henry, Rochester, N.H. and Gloria Rightmyer, Ridley Park, Pa.; two nieces, Gloria Harley, St. Clair, Pa. and Michele Kundrack, Alameda, Calif.; one nephew, Mark Kundrack, New Berlinsville, Pa.; and three cousins, Harold Berrie, J. Albert Berrie, and J.R. (Bob) Berrie all of Kansas.
Irene Reynolds
Funeral services for Seminole resident Irene Reynolds, 94, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church Chapel. Dr. Kelvin Moseley will officiate at the services. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Reynolds died Thursday, July 12, 2001 at Seminole Estates Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 25, 1906 to J.C. and Loretta (Carnahan) Hogue in Indian Territory, what is now Marietta. Reynolds moved to Seminole in 1928 from Wilson, then from 1944-94 divided her time between San Jose, Calif. and Miami, Fla. She came back to Seminole in 1994. She had worked as a waitress and hostess for many years. Reynolds was a member of the Lydia Sunday School class. She was married to Earl Reynolds on July 4, 1923 in Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in 1935. She was also preceded in death by one son, Donald Reynolds in 1985, five brothers, one sister and one half-brother. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Norman Carpenter, Seminole; two grandchildren, Don Carpenter of Norman and Rusty and Allison Carpenter of Norman; three great-grandchildren, Brett Carpenter, Dustin Carpenter and Nicole Carpenter, all of Norman; and several nieces. Casket bearers are listed as Emery Magruder, Terry Howard, Dub Childers, Ron Sosbee, Bob Williams And Hulett Edgmon. Honorary bearers include Jack Reynolds, D.C. Neil, Bob Lenard, Fred Ellison, Don Raney and members of the Adult F Sunday School class.
