Sherman Wilson

Graveside services for former Seminole County resident Sherman B. Wilson are scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at the Maple Grove cemetery with the Rev. Steve Cline officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Wilson died Monday at his home in Goodwater, Ala., at the age of 100. He was born Oct. 7, 1900 in Green Forest, Ark. to John Alvin Wilson and Martha Albertine (Davis) Wilson. Wilson married Beulah Lenora (Sullenger) on March 14, 1931 in Wewoka. He was a Seminole County resident from 1903-1947 and graduated from Seminole High school. Wilson was a Yukon resident from 1947-1996, and attended the University of Oklahoma for 1 year. He was a self-employed retired carpenter. Wilson is preceded in death by his first wife, Nora Oretha Wilson; his second wife Beulah Lenora Wilson; his parents; one daughter, Doris Jean Wilson; seven brothers and one sister. He is survived by four sons, Jimmy L. Wilson, Las Vegas, Nev., Myloe G. Wilson, Wynnewood, Dale A. Wilson, Goodwater, Ala., and Terry Don Wilson, Wilburton; two daughters, Jane Campbell, Yukon, and Carol Sue Olson, Willis, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Willie Woolsey

Funeral services for Cromwell resident Willie “Faye” Woolsey are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka with the Rev. Larry Chesser officiating. Interment will follow at Sand Creek Cemetery, north of Cromwell and I-40, under the direction of Stout Funeral Home, Wewoka. Woolsey passed away Tuesday at the Shawnee Regional Hospital at the age of 49. She was born on May 18, 1952 in Elk City to R.W. and Erie Elizabeth (Rayburn) Cowell. Woolsey was reared and educated in the McAlester area. On Nov. 21, 1985, she married Randy Woolsey in Wewoka. Woolsey enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving in the U.S. & Germany. After her honorable discharge, she made her home in the Holdenville area. Woolsey was an active member of the Miniature Horse Association. She raised and trained horses in the Cromwell area all of her life. Woolsey is preceded in death by her first husband, Corky Rumley; her mother, and one brother, John Harvey Cowell. She is survived by her husband, Randy, of the home; three sons, Tommy Ray Smith, Jr., Tyler, Texas; Jimbob Smith, Midway, Texas; and Walter Rumley, Westmoreland, Tenn.; one daughter, Tonya Wurtz, Wewoka; two step-daughters, Rene’ Ellen Woolsey, Little Axe; and Julia Ann Woolsey of the home; two granddaughters, Shannon Faye Wurtz and Tiffany Ann Wurtz; her father; two sisters, Mary Jane Hillard, Sulphur; and Peggy Wilson, Cromwell; one brother, Billy Cowell, Seminole; and a host of other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers are Keith Quinalty, Gene Goodnight, Leon Goodnight, Lonnie Kean, Steve Peatree and Matt Quinalty.

Bill Burton

Funeral services for Konawa resident Bill Frank Burton are scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Pickard Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa with Rev. Pam Shirk and Rev. J.B. Bond officiating. Burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery. Burton died Monday in Konawa at the age of 72. He was born April 12, 1929 in Konawa to Gladys Amy (Jones) and Herman Floyd Burton. Burton married Rogene (Croom) in Okmulgee on Aug. 6, 1955. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Burton was a pipefitter and oilfield worker, who lived all of his life in Konawa. His activities and associations included Boy Scouts, the Konawa Round-up club, the Odd Fellows, the Konawa City Council, the American Legion, and the Elks Club. He was also a lifetime member of the Konawa United Methodist Church. Burton is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Rogene, of the home; and two daughters, Cynthia Jane Burton, Houston, Texas; and Catherine Ann Shuffield, Stillwater. Pallbearers are Darrel Walker, Charles Carpenter, Jack Terry, Mickey Johnson, Pete Williams, Tim Green, Harrel Kennedy, and Lester Braddock. Honorary pallbearers are Herb Walker, Bill Houston, John Phelps, Roy Hughes, Dan Khoury, Milton Courtney, and Walt Lamb.

Bill Hall

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Bill A. Hall are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Waller officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Hall died Wednesday at his home in Shawnee at the age of 80. He was born Jan. 30, 1921 in Hominy to Ned and Olive M. (Bradfield) Hall. Hall married Lessie Margaret (Wilkerson) Hall on Oct. 15, 1942 in Seminole. Hall was a Seminole County resident for 79 years. He was an Army staff sergeant receiving a good conduct medal, a Bronze Star medal, and a Philippine Liberation ribbon with one Bronze Star. Hall retired from CNG (Consolidated Natural Gas) as a field foreman in 1986. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; his daughter, Shirley June Hall; and several brothers and sisters. Hall is survived by one son, Wayne Hall, Shawnee; one daughter, Carol Ann Hartman, Shawnee; one brother, Jim Hall, Earlsboro; one sister, Ethel Harris, Midwest City; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers are Greg Hall, Jeff Hall, Bill Hartman, David Hall, Jim Wilkerson, and Dee Wilkerson.

Mary Dassler

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Mary Beth Dassler are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Grace Full Gospel Fellowship Pentecostal Church of Crowder, with the Rev. Chester Denny officiating. Burial will follow at the Memory Gardens cemetery, Crowder, under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Dassler died Monday at her residence in Crowder following a lengthy illness at the age of 60. She was born Dec. 13, 1940 in St. Louis, Okla., to Jackson Barker and Opal Irene (Ogden) Nixon. Dassler attended St. Louis High School and graduated valedictorian of her senior class. She participated as a four year starter on the basketball team and received several academic awards. Dassler lived most of her life in Seminole where she married Benny Lee Dassler on Aug. 13, 1983 at St. Mark Episcopal Church. She moved to Crowder in 1989 and was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church of McAlester. Dassler worked and retired as an industrial engineer for Wrangler-Blue Bell Inc., men’s wear in Seminole and Sydney, Australia. She later was employed at Unifirst in Wilburton. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Opal Nixon; one brother, Robert Arthur Nixon; two daughters, Jana Christine Norman and Jary Angeline Norman. Dassler is survived by her husband, Benny, of the home; a daughter/granddaughter, Holly Elizabeth Nave, Crowder; one great-granddaughter. Pallbearers are Mike Roby, James Smith, David Smith, Bill Bowen, Kent Allen, and Lonnie Dassler. Honorary pallbearers are Steve and Cathy Kitchens, Larry and Judy Davenport, Karen Roby, Dee Ann Allen, Pat Smith, Judy and Jerry King, Vonnie Chavez, Mary Jo Bowen, Doug Deal, Tommy and Wanda Callison and Wesley Allen.

James Carter

Former Seminole County resident James Laverne Carter, 82, died at his home in Perry on Wednesday, June 25. He was born on Sept. 15, 1918 to James D. and Bertha (Long) Carter. Carter attended school in Seminole, and was a resident of Perry for over 30 years. He was a retired oil field pumper and a veteran, having served in the Air Force during World War II. Carter was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Cotton, Harvey, Bud and Charles. He is survived by his wife, Donna, of the home; one son, Gregory of Louisana; one daughter, Meredyth, Oklahoma City; five brothers, Billy Carter and Gary Carter, both of Seminole; Melvin Carter and Jimmy Carter, both of Shawnee; and Lonnie Carter, Ratcliff City; four sisters, Edna Williams, La Porte, Texas; Maxine Cole, Jenks; Betty Ruiz, Tecumseh; and Gloria Grimes, Midland, Texas; and three grandchildren. Carter was taken for cremation, and no services were held.

Buddy ‘Sonny’ Cunningham

Buddy “Sonny” Cunningham, a Wewoka resident passed away on Friday, June 29th, at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center at the age of 59. He was born to Clarence Homer and Thelma Catherine (Williams) Cunningham in Calvin on Sept. 7, 1941. Cunningham was reared in the Holdenville and Wewoka area and is a 1960 graduate of Wewoka High School. In that same year, he married Jacque Shipley. Sonny worked for Schlumberger Well Service in California from 1960 to 1970. He then returned home to run the family farm. Cunningham is preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Bryan Cunningham, in 1941. He is survived by one daughter, Mona Good and husband Mike of Seminole; one son, Roger Cummingham and Tonnya of Wewoka; one stepdaughter, Tiffany Baker of Plano, Texas; one step-son, Taylor Tisdale of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Krystal, Adam, Brittany, Jade, Barrett, and Brennan; four sisters, Neva Alt of Holdenville, Velda Hough of Bartlesville, Enide Adair of Oklahoma City, and Barbara Forsythe of Plano, Texas; and two brothers, John Cunningham of Ardmore, and David Cunningham of Rowlett, Texas. Memorial services were scheduled for today at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka under the direction of the Stout Funeral Home.

Buddy ‘Sonny’ Cunningham

Buddy "Sonny" Cunningham, a Wewoka resident passed away on Friday, June 29th, at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center at the age of 59.

He was born to Clarence Homer and Thelma Catherine (Williams) Cunningham in Calvin on Sept. 7, 1941.

Cunningham was reared in the Holdenville and Wewoka area and is a 1960 graduate of Wewoka High School.

In that same year, he married Jacque Shipley.

Sonny worked for Schlumberger Well Service in California from 1960 to 1970.

He then returned home to run the family farm.

Cunningham is preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Bryan Cunningham, in 1941.

He is survived by one daughter, Mona Good and husband Mike of Seminole; one son, Roger Cummingham and Tonnya of Wewoka; one stepdaughter, Tiffany Baker of Plano, Texas; one step-son, Taylor Tisdale of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Krystal, Adam, Brittany, Jade, Barrett, and Brennan; four sisters, Neva Alt of Holdenville, Velda Hough of Bartlesville, Enide Adair of Oklahoma City, and Barbara Forsythe of Plano, Texas; and two brothers, John Cunningham of Ardmore, and David Cunningham of Rowlett, Texas.

Memorial services were scheduled for today at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka under the direction of the Stout Funeral Home.

Wanda Little

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Wanda Jo Little are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hitchitee Methodist Church located in the Strother area, with Rev. Abraham Jackson and Rev. Michael Svitak officiating. Burial will follow at the Hitchitee Church cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Little died Saturday at the age of 63, at Midwest City Regional Hospital. She was born June 29, 1938 in Prague to George and Maudie (Bryan) Coker. Little was a lifelong resident of the Strother-Little community and was a member of the Hitchitee Methodist Church. She married Mitchell Little on Feb. 26, 1953 in Shawnee who preceded her in death in 1984. Little was a retired tool crib attendant from Tinker Air Force Base. She is preceded in death by her husband; her father, George Coker; her mother, Maudie Coker; a daughter, Michelle Little; and a grandchild, Ted Brockie. Little is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Osceola, Sr. and Cena Little, Seminole; Jason and Becky Little, Shawnee; and Tony and Yolanda Tiger, Oklahoma City; her daughter and son-in-laws, Dixie and Mickey Brockie, Hays, Mont.; Shelia and Leonard Harjo, Ada; and Reta Little, Seminole; one brother, Frank Coker, Locust Grove; one sister, Susan Griffin, Fredericksburg, Texas; 17 grandchildren, Mecv Brockie, Donny Keller, Shyla Keller-Price, Joe Little, Sharkara Keller, Preston Little, Cody Harjo, Osceola Little, Jr., Hank Brockie, Mitchell Little, Mitch Price, Stacy Little, Colleen Brockie, Dakota Little, Dallas Little, Aaron Tiger and Jason Tiger; three great-grandchildren, Jalen Brockie, Kobe Brockie and Sierra Price. Casketbearers are Mecv Brockie, Donny Keller, Joe Little, Preston Little, Osceola Little Jr., Hank Brockie, Danny Little, Bruce Harjo, Nathan Harjo and Rick Campbell. Honorary bearers are Mark Harnsberry, Donald Little, Tony Davis, Ron Melton, Percy Harjo, Pete Harjo, Jim Brown and Neil Wyscoft.
