Graveside services for Kelsea Irene Yancey Olney, great-grandaughter of Robert Yancey, Seminole, were held Tuesday at Delhi Cemetery, Sayre, OK, under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Services, Sayre, OK. Olney was born May 19, 2001 to Tabitha Yancey and Steven Olney. She died May 19, 2001 in Shawnee, OK. Olney is survived by her parents, Tabitha Yancey and Steven Olney, Burns Flat; her maternal grandparents, Jerry and Charlotte Yancey, Tecumseh; her paternal grandparents, Richard and Rhonda Olney, Burns Flat; her aunts, Amanda Yancey, Tecumseh, Loretta Gonzales, Burns Flat; her uncles, Jerod Yancey, Sayre, Richard Olney, Burns Flat; her maternal great grandmother Lillie Poindexter; her maternal great-grandfathers, Verlin Poindexter, Arnett, Robert Yancey, Seminole; and a host of relatives and friends.
Ella Baker
Services for Ella A. (Bertie) Baker, 76, Duncan, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Bethel Assembly of God Chruch, with Rev. Ron Meador officiating, assisted by Rev. Clyde Headley. Interment services will be officiated by Rev. Chris Brown at Resthaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. Baker died Wednesday at her home in Duncan. She was born March 5, 1925 in Wewoka to Henry Albert and Edna Jane Dinsmore. Baker married Paul Baker on January 18, 1941 in Wewoka. She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Chruch. Baker was a homemaker and assisted her husband in his plumbing business. She crocheted and did lap quilting and loved to read. Baker taught Jr. and Sr. girls in Sunday School and Missionetts. She also loved to visit the elderly, the sick and the shut-ins. Baker is survived by her husband Paul, 3 children, Paul Henry, Waurika, Linda Brown, Waurika, and Donna McMahon, Duncan; 5 granchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Billie and Merl Larson, Laura and “Vaughn” Good, Betty Hilliard, all of Enid, Glenda and BB Watson, Nashville,Tenn; 2 brothers, Otis Dinsmore and Pete Dinsmore both of Enid, and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Alvie Chasteen, A.v. Swanson, Lloyd Carter, Raymond McSpadded, Ray Campbell, and Jerry Hawkins.
Carmen Mace
Funeral services for former Seminole County teacher Carmen Mace are scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Midwest City, with burial following at Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City, OK under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Southeast. Mace died May 19, 2001 at the age of 78. She was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Stillwater to Hiram and Sadie (Mount) Allen. She received her B.S. Degree in Education from Northeastern in Tahlequah, and later attained her M.S. Degree in Science Education from North Dakota. Mace taught in Tamaha, Wolf, Seminole, Centerview, and completed her 31st year in the 197677 school term in Midwest City. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Midwest City where she taught Sunday school. Mace was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and one sister. She is survived by her husband, J.R. Mace, Midwest City; two sons, Dr. Don Mace, Shawnee, and Bill Mace, Okarche; six grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
Helen Koster
Graveside services for Helen H. Koster are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City under the direction of Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary. Koster died on May 20 in Oklahoma City. She is survived by a son, James C. Kilpatrick of Oklahoma City, and a daughter, Betty H. Bell of Seminole.
Frank Brown
Funeral services for Maud native Frank Brown, 70, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Dale Church of Christ. Dewayne Thomas will officiate at the services. Interment will be at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Brown died Sunday, May 27, 2001 at a Shawnee Hospital. He was born July 30, 1930 to Dave and Sudie Leard Brown. A veteran, Brown served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and was discharged as Airman First Class. He was employed at Tinker Air Force Base as a procurement officer until his retirement in 1986. Brown was married to Janie Thompson on Dec. 23, 1957 in Shawnee. She survives him of their Tecumseh home. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Julus “Bristow” Brown and Arthur Brown. Other survivors include his sons, David Brown, Shawnee and Donald Brown of Tecumseh; and one granddaughter.
Clifford Lena
Funeral services for lifelong Konawa resident Clifford Wayne Lena, 56, were held today at Pickard Funeral Home Chapel. Revs. Dorsey Nero and Ed George officiated at the services. Interment will follow at Burgess Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home. Lena died Saturday, May 26. He was born June 13, 1944 in Konawa to Hattie Harjo and Newman Lena. Lena worked as a horse trainer. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother, of Konawa; two sons, Manuel Lena of Wewoka and Bobby Wayne Lena, Seminole. Pallbearers were Wallace Cully, Thompson Postoak, Herman Foster, Charles Burgess, Al Garner and Ronnie Harjo. Honorary pallbearers were listed as Paul Turnbow, Barney Coker Jr., Robert Wood, Leroy Rains and Louis Carpitcher.
Lonnie Maxwell
Lonnie Edward Maxwell, born July 3, 1912, went to be with his Lord and Savior May 26, 2001 at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 23 days. He was preceded in death by one infant son, Roy Dean, parents John Arthur and Lola Mae (Geren) Maxwell, and his only brother, Walter. On November 2, 1936, Lonnie married Artie Annie Reams in Konawa, where they resided until his death. Lonnie worked as a pipeline construction worker until his retirement in 1974 to his farm. He and Artie raised cattle and farmed until ill health prevented him from working in his garden. He loved to fish with his boys and had many family reunions with any and all of his family. Survivors include Artie, of the home; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Kathleen and Billy Parks, Bowlegs, Evyleen and Dewayne Lemmings, Konawa, Dorthy and Dale Staring, Wewoka and Aline Dyer, Seminole; four sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby Joe and Eileen, Harrah, Loyd and Evalyn, Konawa, J.L. and Donna, Seminole, and Edward and Margie, Konawa. He also has 26 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Services were held on Tuesday, May 29, at 10 a.m. at the Konawa Assembly of God Church, officiated by Rev. Mitch Williams with interment at Vamoosa Cemetery.
Pauline McClure
Graveside services for former Wewoka resident Pauline E. (Criswell) McClure, 88, were held today at Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson. McClure died Saturday, May 26 in Ardmore. She was born Aug. 6, 1912 in Stringtown to Earnest and Willie (Wills) Miller. After spending her childhood in Stringtown, she met and married Ray “Bud” Criswell on May 29, 1929 in Coalgate. She lived and raised her family in the Coalgate area. Criswell preceded her in death on June 4, 1958. Later, she married Mack McClure on Sept. 21, 1962 in Purcell, and they made their home in Lone Grove. He preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1989. McClure was also preceded in death by one son, Bill Criswell, on March 26, 2001, and one brother, Earnest Miller. Survivors include her sons, Paul Criswell, Odessa, Texas, and Jack Criswell, of Lone Grove; daughters, Bonnie Hughes, Chickasha, Pat Massey and Caroline Smith, both of Lone Grove; 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, and a special friend and daughter-in-law, Vada Miller, Atoka. Pallbearers are listed as family members.
Sherman “Abie” Squires
Graveside services for Wewoka resident Sherman “Abie” Floyd Squires, 87, were held today at Tate Mountain Cemetery, south of Wewoka. Rev. Herb Prater officiated at the services. Arrangements are under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Squires died Saturday, May 26, 2001. He was born June 6, 1913 in Harrison, Ark. to J.L. and Vivian Jane (Pierson) Squires. A veteran, he served during World War II with the Navy Seabees in Port Hueneme, Calif., and Okinawa as an instructor of .20 mm anti-aircraft guns. Squires was a building contractor by trade, and worked with his father and brothers and later for the federal government building air force bases. He was married to his wife, Minna Lo Squires for 61 years. She survives him of the home. Abie and Minna Lo were “snow birds,” avid fishermen and lived full time in their travel trailer. Squires was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard and Glenn Squires. Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy Floyd and Linda Squires, Dallas, and Tommy Dale and Dixie Squires, Darlington, England; two “adopted” daughters, Pat Barkhimer and Mary White, both of Wewoka; one sister, Mary Ledgerwood, Wewoka; one granddaughter, Lacey Squires, Wharton, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers are listed as great-and great-great-nephews, Charles and Rodney Troglin, Clifford and Jeff Cook, Carl, Blaine and Seth Barkhimer.
Teddy “Ted” Everhart
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident Teddy “Ted” Duane Everhart, 68, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Historic Strother Chapel. Rev. Harold Turner will officiate at the services. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Everhart died Thursday, May 24, 2001 at Wewoka Nursing Center. He was born July 13, 1933 in Earlsboro to Thomas Walter and Edna Marie (Teel) Everhart. A veteran, Everhart served in the United States Navy. He served at Executive Director of Seminole Housing Authority until his retirement in 1990. Everhart was a member of the Temple of Praise Church, the Masonic Lodge, and was a Shriners clown. He married Janell Aleen Rowland on April 3, 1954 in Seminole. She preceded him in death in September, 1986. Everhart was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. Survivors include one son, Ronnie Everhart, Seminole; one brother, Walter Everhart, Henryetta, Texas; two sisters, Esta Wright, Wellston, and Yula Daniels, Kingman, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
Idabel Potter
Graveside services for Cromwell High School graduate Idabel Potter, 83, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka. Arrangements are under the direction of Baggerly-South Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. Potter died Saturday, May 26, 2001. She was born Nov. 21, 1917 in Hot Springs, Ark. to Joe and Alice Weston. She graduated from Cromwell High School as class valedictorian in May, 1937. Potter was employed with Southwestern Bell for 33 years, until her retirement. She was married to John Potter; he preceded her in death. Potter was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Earl, Manuel, Ballard, Lester and Lee; and one sister, Lydia Karr. Survivors include two brothers, Homer Weston, Del City and Thurman Weston, Elk City.
Dorothy Felton
Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Dorothy Felton, 82, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole. Dr. James Sill will officiate at the services. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Felton died Friday, May 25, 2001 at South Park Health Care Center in Oklahoma City. She was born Dec. 2, 1918 in Ada to Earl Edgar and Maude Virginia (Jackson) Clark. Felton moved to Seminole in 1948, moving here from California. She graduated from East Central University in Ada, and also attended OSU. She was first licensed to teach in 1950, and taught at Seminole Public Schools. She retired in 1982. While teaching, Felton was a counselor, girls basketball coach and speech therapist, and worked admissions gates for football and basketball games for many seasons. She was also involved in many other activities and functions that were associated with Seminole schools. Felton was a member of First Christian Church in Seminole. She married Cecil Felton on Sept. 16, 1938 in Ada. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2001. Felton was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dewey and Francis Felton of Shawnee; one daughter and son-in-law, Rajeana and Ed Brown, Oklahoma City; one brother and sister-in-law, Adolph and Myrtle Clark, New Orleans, La. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Dawn Colvin and her husband, Mike, Las Vegas, Nev., JoAnn Hill and her husband, Bill, Oklahoma City, Tammi Edwards and her husband, Joe, Yukon, and Cindi Smith and her husband, Robert, Phoenix, Ariz.; and eight great-grandchildren.
Houston Grisham
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Houston A. Grisham, 72, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Chapel. Rev. Ray Belford will officiate, assisted by Dr. James Sill, both of First Christian Church. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Houston died Saturday night, May 19, 2001, at Baptist Hospital, Oklahoma City. He was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Bakersfield, Mo., to Mollie (Climer) and James Monroe Grisham. He was a graduate of New Lima High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He worked for 26 years as a mechanic, a supervisor and an instructor at Tinker Air Force Base. In his job he frequently served as crash site investigator for plane crashes and set up several historic airplane exhibits in museums nationwide. He married Rita Burkhart on Aug. 19, 1950, in Ozark, Ark., who survives him of the home. Other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jerry Anson, Seminole; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Dennis and Carla Grisham, Eufaula, Larry Grisham, Tulsa, Terry and Terrie Grisham, Tulsa, Randy and Janie Grisham, Wewoka. Survivors also include two brothers, Clifford Grisham, New Lima, and Kenneth M. “Pete” Grisham, Oklahoma City; four sisters, Lorene Joyce, Shirley Trimarchi and Linda Jones, all of Oklahoma City, and Mary Hunter, Syracuse, NY; six grandchildren, Heather and Ryan Anson, Jill Anson Malone, Dennis Grisham Jr., Kelsey Grisham and Jarrod Wood; a stepgranddaughter, Michelle Suprenant; one great-grandson, Dennis Grisham III; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Jade and Josh Hurst. He was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Grisham, and his parents. Pallbearers will include grandsons and nephews, Dennis Grisham Jr., Ryan Anson, Jarrod Wood, Kenneth M. “Sonny” Grisham, Greg Jones and James Joyce. Honorary casketbearers include JP Anderson, Dave Anderson, Dan Anderson and Earl Bowen.
