James ‘Jim’ Flinchum

James Luther Flinchum, 75, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, died on May 19, 2001. He was born in McAlester, on June 18, 1925. Known by all as "Jim," he is survived by Joann Flinchum, his wife of 54 years; son Mike Flinchum and his wife of California; daughter Sherry Koberstein and her husband of Vancouver Island, (Canada); five grandchildren, Rebecca, Kristen, and James Flinchum, Rhiann Grills, and Katie Koberstein; and by 3 sisters, Frankie Redfoot of Dallas, and Mazie Gourley and June Wetsel of Tijeras; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his father and mother, William and Delia Flinchum, his brother Lawson Flinchum, and his sister Julia Wagner. A carpenter by trade, Jim started the Flinchum Construction Company in 1971. As a general contractor, Jim was blessed of the Lord with an excellent staff and knowledgeable advisors, as the company advanced with contracts at many of the area military bases. Jim appreciated the outdoors, often enjoying hunting and camping trips with close friends. As a young father, Jim made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ, was baptized, and has remained an active member of Baptist churches in Oklahoma and in Albuquerque for the past 53 years. Jim was a charter member of the Bel-Air Baptist church of Albuquerque, and also served in the Parkview Baptist Church, Tijeras Baptist Church, and Eastern Hills Baptist Church. Ordained a deacon, Jim taught Bible classes and served on various committees. Through the influence of his friend and pastor, Calvin Beach, Jim sensed God's leading to participate with International Crusades, of Dallas, Texas, in a trip to Mexico in 1978. A deep love for missionary work resulted, with Jim making 43 trips, visiting 16 countries on five continents. Jim found great satisfaction sharing his ever growing faith in Jesus Christ, often serving as a lay preacher. A memorial service was held this morning, May 24, 2001, at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris N.E., with lunch to follow. Burial and graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., May 25, at Resthaven Memorial Park of Shawnee. Memorial donations are suggested to International Crusades, 500 S. Ervay #409A, Dallas, Texas, 75201.

Mary Jane Harris

Services for long time Seminole County resident Mary Jane Harris are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Assemby of God with Pastor Doyle Long officiating. She died at her home after a lengthy illness. She was 64. Interment will be at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Harris was born Nov. 2, 1936 in Seminole to Leroy and Myra Lee (Evans) Faltermier. She married Orthel Harris on March 28, 1954 in Maud. Harris was a homemaker whose hobbies included quilting, cooking, gardening and playing the piano. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Harris was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Faltermier; a great-granddaughter, Kaliece LeeAnn Brinsfield; and Step-mother, Donnie Faltermier. Survivors include her husband Orthel, of the home; three sons, Orthel Harris, Jr., Bobby Harris, and Gerald Dean Harris, all of Seminole; one daughter, Sharon Ghalamdanchi, of Houston, Texas; one brother, Leroy Faltermier, Jr., of Gainsville, Texas, three sisters, Rose Ellen Bohannon, of Wewoka; April Morrison and Carolyn Hill, both of Seminole; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The casket will be open until service time. Once closed, it will not be re-opened.

Pearl Graham

Services for Pearl Graham were held Tuesday, May 22 at 2 p.m. at Pickard Chapel in Konawa under the direction of Rev. Mitch Williams who was assisted by Rev. Roger Rounsaville. Graham was buried at Vamoosa Cemetery. Graham died May 20 at Ada, at the age of 89 years. She was born Tuesday, June 6, 1911 in Granite, Okla, to Ida Lee (Hale) Beddo and Dock Beddo. She was married to Grady Franklin Graham at Konawa, on September 12, 1925. She was a school cook, and lived in the Konawa area most of her life. Graham was preceded in death by her husband Grady in 1984, and her son Warren Graham. Graham is survived by two sons, Billy Graham of Konawa; and Grady Graham, Grand Prairie, Tex.; two daughters, Wanda Brown, Byng; Jean Litteral, OKC; one sister, Pauline Rayborn of Duncan; and 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

Annie Landreth

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Thrusday for Annie Marie Landreth, 80, of Holdenville. Marie died Tuesday May 15, 2001 in Oklahoma City . She was born on September 10, 1920 to Ammon “Shorty” and Atlas(Rose) Reich in Sasakwa. She was reared and educated in the Seminole County area attending Kite Schools. Marie was a member of the Chruch of Christ of Sasakwa for many years. She worked at Big Yank for many years until retiring in 1983. Marie married James Corbit Landreth in Sasakwa on July 27th, 1937. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son: Loyd Dale Landreth, three brothers: A.H., Herbert, and Clarence Reich, and one great-granddaughter: Taylor Landreth. She is survived by one son: James Steven and Darlene Landreth of Holdenville, one daughter: Judy and Ernie Williams of Hallsville, Texas, eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and a host of niecec, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Services wer held at Oakwood Cemetary under the direction of Stout Funeral Home, with Doyle GadBerry officiating. Pallbearers were Chris Landreth, Kevin Landreth, Clint Landreth, Michael Landreth, David Landreth, Daryl Williams, Matt Harjo, Tommy Harjo, and Derick Landreth.

Gary Lynn Abbiss

Memorial Service for Gary Lynn Abbiss was held on Monday, May 21 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Sulphur. It was under the direction of Rev. Eddie Malphrus at Clagg Funeral Home. Interment was at Oaklawn cemetery in Sulphur. Abbiss died in Ada, OK on Friday, May 18 at the age of 59. He was born on Feb. 12, 1942 to Shibley and Fay (Murphy) Abbiss in Seminole. He grew up in the Seminole and Wewoka area. Graduated from Seminole High School and served 20 years in the Air Force, including 3 tours in Vietnam. He married Hope Drury on April 12, 1988 at Moore. They lived in Moore before moving to Sulfphur 4 years ago. He served on the Buckhorn Rural Water Board. Abbiss was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sulphur and a member of the Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Rose Marie Abbiss.

Abbiss is survived by his wife, Hope; daughter Debra Grey of Apache Junctrion, Ariz.; and four sons, Gary Abbiss, Jr., of Queen Creek, Ariz.; Gregory Abbiss, Apache Junction, Ariz.; Matt Wilburn, Stillwater, and Bart Wilburn, Edmond; 3 grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers were Dave Fernwalt, Tommy St. Cyr, Steve Grummer, Harvey Hollowell, Jerry Martin, Kevin Whitman, Ron Box, Will Danewood and Richard Whitburn.

Houston Grisham

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Houston A. Grisham, 72, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Chapel. Rev. Ray Belford will officiate, assisted by Dr. James Sill, both of First Christian Church. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Houston died Saturday night, May 19, 2001, at Baptist Hospital, Oklahoma City. He was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Bakersfield, Mo., to Mollie (Climer) and James Monroe Grisham. He was a graduate of New Lima High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He worked for 26 years as a mechanic, a supervisor and an instructor at Tinker Air Force Base. In his job he frequently served as crash site investigator for plane crashes and set up several historic airplane exhibits in museums nationwide. He married Rita Burkhart on Aug. 19, 1950, in Ozark, Ark., who survives him of the home. Other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jerry Anson, Seminole; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Dennis and Carla Grisham, Eufaula, Larry Grisham, Tulsa, Terry and Terrie Grisham, Tulsa, Randy and Janie Grisham, Wewoka. Survivors also include two brothers, Clifford Grisham, New Lima, and Kenneth M. “Pete” Grisham, Oklahoma City; four sisters, Lorene Joyce, Shirley Trimarchi and Linda Jones, all of Oklahoma City, and Mary Hunter, Syracuse, NY; six grandchildren, Heather and Ryan Anson, Jill Anson Malone, Dennis Grisham Jr., Kelsey Grisham and Jarrod Wood; a stepgranddaughter, Michelle Suprenant; one great-grandson, Dennis Grisham III; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Jade and Josh Hurst. He was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Grisham, and his parents. Pallbearers will include grandsons and nephews, Dennis Grisham Jr., Ryan Anson, Jarrod Wood, Kenneth M. “Sonny” Grisham, Greg Jones and James Joyce. Honorary casketbearers include JP Anderson, Dave Anderson, Dan Anderson and Earl Bowen.

Clyde Short

Word has been received of the death of former Seminole resident, Clyde Short, 82, of Odessa, Texas. Short died Monday, May 21, 2001 at the Scenic Mountain Hospital in Big Spring, Texas. Services are scheduled to be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Odessa with Dr. Ernest Easley to officiate. The funeral is under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home of Odessa. Short was born Nov.15, 1918 in Seminole to James and Burlie Jane Ray Short. He married Florene Dial on Aug. 14, 1943 in Baird, Texas. Short moved from Seminole to Odessa in 1946. He retired from Phillips Petroleum Company after 38 years of service. Short was a U. S. Army veteran and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and eight brothers and sisters. Survivors are his son Don Short of Odessa; one sister, Mae Farren of Gruver, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Rubin Dodson

Graveside services for Rubin Edward Dodson are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Brinkman Cemetery near Mangum under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Mildred Gable is scheduled to officiate. Dodson died Saturday morning, May 19, 2001, in Holdenville at the age of 96. He was born on March 16, 1905 to James and Lula (Johnson) Dodson in Therell, Texas. Dodson was raised in the Greer County area. He married Katy Hazel Kemper on July 18, 1925 in Greer county. The Dodsons moved to Harrisburg, Oregon in 1945. He was ordained a minister in the early 1940’s serving several churches over the years, including the Assembly of Jesus Christ and the Light House Temple in Madras, Ore. Dodson worked for Pierce Manufacturing until retiring in 1968. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Ralph Edward Dodson, and Charlie David Dodson; one daughter, Peggy Joreen Dodson; one grandson; one great-grandson; nine brothers; and three sisters. Dodson is survived by four daughters, Mickey LeGerreettee of Vancouver, Wash., Matilda Costa of Marysville, Wash., Patti Rowe of Wewoka, and Dorothy Prom of Harrisburg, Ore.; 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Colman Calvert

Services for Colman Curtis Calvert were held Saturday at the East Main Church of Christ in Holdenville with Scott Dutton officiating. Private interment followed at the Yeager Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Colman died May 17, 2001 in Holdenville, at the age of 69. He was born May 3, 1932 in Mullshoe, Texas, to Allie Mae (Hopkins) and William Spencer Calvert. Colman was raised in Stevenville, Texas and several areas in Oklahoma. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and worked for Robinson Drilling in the Texas oil field. On June 21, 1970, Coleman married Karen Weaver in Snyder, Texas. Colman was a member of the East Main Church of Christ in Holdenville. His hobbies were fishing, gardening, and watching western movies. Colman is survived by his wife Karen of the home; one daughter, Shelley of the home; three sons, Clifton Calvert of Hobbs, N. M., Chris Calvert of Big Springs, Texas, and Jesse Calvert of Houston, Texas; one brother, A. D. Calvert of Wewoka; one sister, Wanda Bea Sheffield of Kilgore, Texas, and three grandchildren.

Rose Dunagan

Graveside services for former Seminole resident Rose Dunagan will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate. Dunagan died May 17, 2001, at Norman Regional Hospital. She was born in Norman on Sept. 23, 1926 to Orville D. and Ethel May (Bowlin) Cox. On July 7, 1945, she married Andrew “Andy” David Dunagan. Dunagan moved from Seminole to Norman in 1968. She worked as a cook for the Little Axe school system, retiring in the late 1980’s. Dunagan was of the Baptist faith. She worked on the Little Axe Volunteer Fire Department Committee. Dunagan was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Deloris Dunagan; two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her husband of the home; two sons, David Dunagan of Schotten, Germany, and Larry Dunagan of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Wanda Wornick, of Norman; one half-brother, Richard Cox of Great Bend, Kansas; and one half-sister, Alfreda Brummer of Houston, Texas; 15 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Johnnie ‘Mack’ Brown

Johnnie “Mack” Brown of Wewoka died Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at Holdenville General Hospital at the age of 79. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Macedonia Baptist Church in Wewoka with Rev. Frank Washington officiating. Burial is to be at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Wewoka. He was born Jan. 12, 1922 at Boley to George and Lottie (Duke) Brown. Prior to retiring, Brown had worked for Matheny Motor Company for three years and Malloy Doyle Ford Garage for 22 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Brown is survived by his wife, Juanity Brown of Wewoka; three daughters, Annie Re Brown of Wewoka, Lottie B. Willis of Oklahoma City, and Linda Brown of Wewoka; one son, Carzell Brown of Wewoka; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Barney Coker Sr.

Funeral services for Barney Coesee Coker Sr., a Seminole resident, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Stuot Funeral Chapel in Wewoka with Rev. Houston Tiger and Rev. Steve Holata officiating. Interment is to be at the Coker family home west of Seminole under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Wake services are scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight at the Stout Funeral Chapel in Wewoka. Coker died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at the age of 88. He was born Jan. 16, 1913 to J.B. Coesee and Minnie Coker in Seminole. Coker was reared in the Seminole County area and educated at Pleasant Grove School and the Mekusukey Boys’ Academy. In 1948, He married Katie West in Seminole County. Coker was a member of the Sand Creek Eufaula Indian Baptist Church in Wewoka. He was an avid farmer and loved sports. He was active in all areas of sports as a young man. As he aged, he became the pasttime’s biggest fan. Coker was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Shirley Henneha; one son, Jesse Don Coker; and two grandsons, Brian Cully and Rolland Henneha. He is survived by his six daughters, Jane Northcott, Rosetta Coley, Margie Stalnaker, Julie Hopper, Martha Flippin, all of Seminole, and Daisey Marshall of Tulsa; two sons, Barney Coker Jr. of Wolf, and Dan Coker of Ada; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers include Tony Northcott, Randy Northcott, Manuel Lena, Dominic Coker, Eric Coley, Brent Hopper, Charlie Henneha Jr., and Jesse Marshall. Honorary Pallbearers include Lonnie Lofton, Thompson Postoak, Fred Combs, Donald Rippee, Tony Womack, Joe Hopper, and Wayland Northcott.
