Funeral services for Sasakwa native Leon H. Gore are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in the Barnes and Johnson Chapel in Midwest City. He died at home with his family on Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at the age of 78. Gore was born Sept. 25, 1922 in Sasakwa to B.F. and Lula Gore. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and four brothers. Gore is survived by his wife, Pearlene, of the home; two daughters, Faye Beam of Midwest City, and Carolyn Sue Norvell of Stigler; tone sister, Nadine Neal of Meredith, Colo.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
H.B. ‘Bob’ Hammack
Funeral services for Konawa resident H.B. “Bob” Hammack are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Pickard Chapel in Konawa with Rev. Bob Bender officiating. Burial is to follow at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home. Hammack died Thursday, May 3, 2001 at the age of 68. He was born Jan. 5, 1933 in Vincent to Thelma Warner (English) and Burl Eugene Hammack. Hammack married Grace Murdock on Jan. 23, 1954 in Boston, Mass. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Hammack was a store owner and rancher who moved to Konawa from Norman 20 years ago. He was preceded in death by one sister, Wanda of California. Hammack is survived by his wife, Grace Hammack, of the home; one son, Randy Hammack of Konawa; one daughter, Diana Hammack of Konawa; two brothers, Willis Hammack of Norman and Raymond Hammack of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Ramona McCord of Tipton, and Louse Farris of Rogers, Ark.; and two granddaughters.
Otis Brown
Graveside services for longtime Cromwell area resident Otis Brown are scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Little Cemetery with Rev. Paskel Beban of Friendship Baptist Church of Cromwell officiating. Services are to be under the direction of Schumacher Funeral Home of Okemah. Brown died Tuesday, May 1, 2001 in Shawnee at the age of 80. He was born Aug. 23, 1920 in Okfuskee County to Walter Brown and Lou Finny Brown. Brown served with the U.S. Army during World War II and earned the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Star among others. He was employed by Atlantic Richfield and ARCO before retiring in 1983. Brown liked spending his time fishing, hunting and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Stella, of the home; one son, Buddy Walker of Fairfax, Va.; two daughters, Judy Davis of Gore, and Janet Beene of Remer, Tenn.; three sisters, Jeanette Worley of Woodville, Calif., Annie Jackson of Okemah, and Chris Luttrell; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Cecil Helling
Cecil Herman Helling, a longtime Seminole County resident, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 82. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Cline officiating. Burial is to be at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Helling was born July 11, 1918 in Garber to Karl Helling and Rebecca Helling. He married Mamie Marie Presley on April 9, 1955 in Seminole. She preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 2001. Helling was a retired oilfield worker and had worked for Flint Rig Company. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. He is survived by two stepsons, Fred Presley of Seminole, and Gene Presley of Edmond; one brother, art Helling of Garber; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Casket bearers are to be Noble Hays, Gene Cathey, David Cathey, Robert Bratton, William Lewis Hack Jr., and Steven Parks. Honorary bearers are Joe Tolbert and Wayne Pester.
Judith ‘Judy’ Cichocki
Funeral services for Judith “Judy” Angela (Novy) Cichocki are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Randall Miller. Burial is to be at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. She died Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at University Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 30 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Cichocki was born Dec. 2, 1970 in St. Louis, Mo. to Larry Wayne Roberts and Judith Angela (Ogburn) Roberts. She was a graduate of Strother High School. She married Chris Cichocki on Nov. 20, 1993 in Seminole. Cichocki was a presser in the pressing department at Wrangler. She had also worked for many years at Carl’s Jr. and Kentucky Fried Chicken. She was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita Andrea Barker on March 24, 1990. Cichocki is survived by her husband of the home; two daughters, Tiffani and Alicia Cichocki, both of the home; her parents, Larry and Judith Roberts of Seminole; one brother, Loren Roberts of Atwood; and one sister, Jeannette Roberts of Seminole.
Gerald ‘Jerry’ Moreland
Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Gerald Lyn “Jerry” Moreland are scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Following interment, a memorial service will be held to celebrate his life at 11 a.m. tomorrow at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Karges officiating. Moreland died Monday, April 30, 2001 at Eufaula at the age of 57. He was born Dec. 20, 1943 in Olney, Ill. to Leland Moreland and Madelyn (Setterstrome) Golden. Moreland moved to Seminole at the age of 13 from Borger, Texas. At the age of 16, he went to work at Hammon’s Men’s Wear. He later owned the store. At the time of his death, he was self-employed as an independent general contractor. He married Rebecca Lee “Becky” Cooper on Oct. 16, 1970 in Sulphur. Moreland was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Republic of South Korea during the Vietnam era. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a former Kiwanis member. Moreland had been a member of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce and was a former member of the Board of Education of Seminole Public Schools. He was preceded in death by his parents. Moreland is survived by his wife, Becky Moreland, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Karin Moreland of Edmond; one daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Jeff James of Seminole; one brother, Bill Moreland of Vancouver, British Columbia; three grandchildren, Jensen Leighann James, Jacey Hannah James, and Emma Lee Moreland; and a host of close family and friends. Honorary casket bearers are Steve Nelson, Larry Waddell, Jim Hale, C.M. Alvin Teltow
Funeral services for Alvin Otto Teltow Jr. are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Bearden Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Boyce Dodson officiating. Burial is to be in Castle Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Teltow, a longtime Seminole resident, died Monday, April 30, 2001 at his home at the age of 58. He was born July 27, 1942 at Ft. Worth, Texas to Alvin O. Teltow Sr. and Ava Pauline (Holden) Teltow. He married Judy Hunter on Sept. 19, 1969 in Santa Rosa, N.M. Teltow was a farmer and migrant worker. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Clifford Teltow. Teltow is survived by his wife, Judy Teltow, of the home; one son, Charles Teltow of Seminole; six daughters, Carma of Earlsboro, Jennifer of Holdenville, Ramona of Asher, Corky of Lawton, Maylene of Bearden, and Peggy Sue of Holdenville; six brothers; three sisters; and 11 grandchildren.
Lillie Pickett
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Lillie Pearl Pickett are scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow at Parks Brother Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with Brother Tim Emmons officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Prague. Pickett died Thursday, April 26, 2001 in Prague at the age of 87. She was born Dec. 21, 1913 in Prague to Frank and Emelie (Kimmel) Tomanka. Pickett had been a resident of Prague for 4 ½ years. She married Robert Pinkney Pickett on Dec. 25, 1935 in Prague. He preceded her in death in 1971. Pickett had lived in Seminole from 1985 to 1997 and was a member of the seventh Day Adventist Church in Seminole. She had also lived in Bethany from 1971 until 1978 and in Oklahoma City from 1937 until 1971. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, and one grandson. She is survived by four sons, Bob Pickett of Prague, Vernon Pickett of Seminole, Larry and Ron Pickett of Choctaw; one sister, Esther Stout of Bethany; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Terry Arnhart
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Terry Donald Arnhart are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial is to be at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Arnhart died Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at his home in Oklahoma City at the age of 56. He was born Oct. 25, 1944 at Yale to Harry R. Arnhart and Martha Mae (Phillips) Arnhart. Arnhart graduated from Seminole High School in 1962 where he participated in tennis and football. He also attended East Central University. He was employed as an assistant vice president of Citizen’s National Bank in Oklahoma City from 1963 to 1985. Arnhart had been employed as a bookkeeper for National Car Rental since 1985. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served with the postal operation in Saigon, South Vietnam. Arnhart was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Arnhart on Sept. 8, 1996; and sister, Raymonda Arnhart. He is survived by his father, Harry R. Arnhart of Seminole; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Charlotte Arnhart of Oklahoma City; and several nieces and nephews. Casket bearers are to be Joe Bugg, Jimmy Dunn, Jerry Pendly, Dan Nowlan, Randy Arnhart, and Babe Adams.
Alvie ‘Sleepy’ Davis
Funeral services for Seminole County native, Alvie “Sleepy” Davis are scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Joy Baptist Church with brother Clay Shannon officiating. The church is located south of Wynnewood. Interment is to be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood under the direction of the DeArman Funeral Home. Davis died Thursday, April 26, 2001 at the age of 87. He was born May 27, 1912 in Seminole County. After graduating from Vamoosa High School, Davis went on to Conway Arkansas University for one year. Later he was hired as a pumper for the Gulf Oil Company. On Nov. 2, 1939, he married Leona Wortham. Davis was a veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart. In 1965, the family purchased a farm which continued to be Davis’ passion for the remainder of his life. Along with farming, he enjoyed watching sports, fishing, working in his garden, and tending to his pecan trees. Davis is survived by his wife of 62 years, Leona Davis; his son, Steve Davis of Davis, two sisters, Vi Glover and Velma Coates; two grandsons; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Birtye Towry; an infant sister, Ruby; and an infant brother.
Jo Fisher
Jo Fisher, a longtime Seminole County resident, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 83. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Dr. Kelvin Moseley and Rev. John Lively officiating. Burial was at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. She was born March 16, 1918 in Spaulding to A.W. Weaver and Mona V. (Coston) Weaver. Fisher worked at First Federal Savings and Loan from 1959 until her retirement in 1983. She was an escrow officer. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Fisher was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, three sisters, and two grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Judith Christopher of Wewoka; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald K. Fisher, Sr. and wife Anita, of Copperous Cove, Texas; four grandchildren, Donald K. Fisher, Jr. of South English, Iowa, Natasha Hobbs and husband David of Ft. Leonardwood, Mo., Dana Bateman and husband Mark of Seminole; Derek Christopher and wife Lisa of Wewoka; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Edith Martin of Sallisaw; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends. Casket bearers were John Humphrey, John Conn, Charles Johnston, Chris Cox, Clint Cox, Zack Christopher, and Kay Dotson. Honorary bearers were Jimmie Austin and Don Chesser.
Mary McEntire
Funeral services for Seminole resident Mary Edith McEntire are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Coalgate with Rev. David Karges officiating. Burial is to be north of Coalgate at Cairo Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. McEntire died Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at her home at the age of 89. She was born Aug. 9, 1911 at Centerpoint, Texas to William Albert Furr and Cora Lee (White) Furr. On March 30, 1930 she married James Francis Roberts in Stringtown. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1960. She married Keener Brown McEntire in 1978. He preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1988. McEntire was retired from Atoka County Clerk’s Office. She was one of the original staff members of the Headstart Program and helper her husband run their grocery store in Stringtown. McEntire was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a 70-year member of the Eastern Star. In addition to her husbands, she was also preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Jo Ann Dale on Jan. 28, 1986; and beloved son-in-law, Sonny Ogden in January 1988. She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Frances Ogden of Houston, Texas, Carrie Jean McGee of Seminole; and Jenny and Doug Morgan of Seminole; one son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Michael and Susanne Roberts of Nacogodoches, Texas. Other survivors include 18 grandchildren, Steven Robert Ogden, Timothy Scott Ogden, Mary Karen Dale, Charles Michael Dale, Jeffrey Robert Dale, Nancy Elizabeth Dale, Melinda Suzanne Tapp, Amanda Jill Brown, Angela Lee Price, Sarah Rosemary McGee, Sean Douglas Morgan, Christian Lee Morgan, Matthew Joseph Morgan, Jeffrey Roberts Morgan, Kristina Maria Roberts, Samuel Ryan Roberts, Stacey Lenora Roberts, Benjamin Michael Roberts; 13 great-grandchildren; and lovingly cared for by her special angel - Mary Cray.
