Funeral services for the husband of a Konawa native, Troy L. Cole, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2001 at Church of Christ with Frank Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Cole died Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at Oklahoma City at the age of 66. He was born Jan. 11, 1935 in Bonnam, Ken. to Junnie (Roberts) and Shafter Cole. Cole married Lorene Brewer in Dillon, S.C. on Aug. 21, 1971. He was a retired Marine and retired executive chef who served in Korea and three tours in Vietnam. Cole moved to Shawnee from California in July 1992 where he enjoyed gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Nolan Cole, and one sister, Dorothy Metcalf. Cole is survived by his wife of the home, two sons, Francis “Frankie” Edwin of Selden, N.Y., and James “Jimmy” Edward of Bixby; two brothers, Paul Cole of Beattyville, Ken., and Jim Cole of Lexington, Ken.; two sisters, Eula Mae Susnick of Scottsburg, Ind., and Nancy Smith of Lexington, Ken.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Audra Smith
Funeral services for former Seminole County resident, Audra J. Smith, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2001 at the Paylor Chapel in Midwest City. Burial is to be in Arlington Memory Gardens under the direction of Paylor Funeral Home. Smith died on Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at the age of 88. She was born on July 15,1912 I Adona, Ark. to Arlene and Robert Johnson.. Smith graduated from Wewoka High School in 1932. She married George C. Smith on March 16, 1936. In 1942, they moved to Midwest City where she was involved in community, political and scouting work. She was a charter member of Wickline United Methodist Church. Smith had worked for John A. Browns for over 25 years. She is survived by one son, Dennis G. Smith; one daughter, Gay Littleton; two sisters, Lee Ella Hisaw, and Betty Sanders; two brothers, Robert Johnson and Gurdon Johnson; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Richard ‘Dick’ Pruitt
Funeral services for former Seminole County resident, Richard Leroy “Dick” Pruitt, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2001 at Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Arlington, Texas. Father Philip Johnson will officiate at the services. Burial is to be in Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas under the direction of Moore Funeral Home in Arlington. Pruitt died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, as a result of an automobile accident in Alexandria, La. He was born near Prague on Feb. 1, 1939 to George Leroy Pruitt and Clara Estell (Shreves) Pruitt. Pruitt graduated from high school in 1957. He lived for several years in the Little area and attended Strother Elementary and Prairie Valley schools. Pruitt moved to Midland, Texas in 1957 where he met his wife, Annette d Boisblanc. The couple had been residents of Arlington for the past 33 years. Pruitt founded Pruitt Electric Company in 1968 and wired the original Texas Rangers Ballpark. He was known for his “hot chili” at local chili cook-offs. Pruitt was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Roderick Lewis Pruitt, and Peter Mark Pruitt, both of Arlington, Texas; three sisters; Lola Mae McGehee of Borger, Texas, Naomi Pace of Little, and Joyce Pechacek of Chickasha; one granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bobby Hoskison
Bobby Charles Hoskison, a lifelong Seminole County resident, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at Sunset Estates of Maud at the age of 58. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, March 9, 2001 at Harvey Road Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Stephens and Monte Stephens officiating. Burial is to be in Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Hoskison was born on Aug. 26, 1942 in Seminole to Charles Henry Hoskison and Izetta Marie (Hyatt) Hoskison. He had been an employee of Canadian Valley Electric for 14 years until his retirement due to health reasons in 1977. Hoskison was a member of Haney Congregational Methodist Church of Little. He was an avid C.B.’er, treasure hunter, and enjoyed searching for arrowheads. Hoskison was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Darryl Paul Splawn. He is survived by two sons, Bryan C. Hoskison of Seminole, and Charles Heath Hoskison of Maud; one daughter, Nita L. Splawn of Saint Louis, Okla.; one brother Bill F. Hoskison of Seminole; four grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Casket bearers are listed as Billy K. Hoskison, Greg A. Upton, Scott L. Hoskison, Brent W. Hoskison, Christopher S. Splawn, and Billy K. Hoskison, Jr. Honorary bearers are Raymond Thoma, Harrel Thoma, Darryl Smith, Wendell Scott, Tommy Hyatt, Steve Hyatt, Larry Thoma, and Steve Thoma.
N.H. Nall
Graveside services for Seminole resident N.H. “Buck” Nall will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Nall was born on March 15, 1905, in Mena, Ark., to George W. and Lou J. (Brumley) Nall. He was the fifth of seven children. He came to the Seminole area in the late 1920s, working in many areas of the oilfield. During the war years, he worked in the shipyards. He returned to Seminole and formed Nall Brothers Trucking and Dozer Service. Nall married Genevieve “Genny” Hickman on Aug. 25, 1931. She preceded him in death in September 1999. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. The family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
LeRoy Culberson
Funeral services for Tishomingo resident LeRoy C. Culberson will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2001 at the Temple Church of God in Connerville under the direction of Clark Funeral Home of Tishomingo. The Revs. Nelson Baken and Charlie Carter will officiate. Internment will follow at the Seely-Blue Cemetery. Culberson was born on April 28, 1936 in Connerville to Eldon and Nora Wisdom Culberson. He was raised and went to school in Connorville later moving to eastern Oklahoma for many years before returning to Johnston County. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Kelly Snow and Ruby Johnson. Survivors include one son, Lee Culberson of Latta; three daughters, Arlinda Tso of Seminole, Clarice Culberson of Wewoka, and Beverly Culberson of Stroud; a sister; Alene Hallmark of Tishomingo; and 15 grandchildren.
Tommy Johnson
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Tommy Lee Johnson are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2001 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Wewoka with Rev. David Young of Oklahoma City officiating. Burial is to be in Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Wewoka. Johnson died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Norman Regional Hospital at the age of 76. He had been a resident of Seminole County for 14 years. Johnson was born on Sept. 24, 1924 in Shawnee to Robert and Ora Johnson. He was owner of Derby Service Station for 18 years. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter; one brother, Tony Johnson; and nine sisters, Odessa Williams, Savanna Bray, F.L. McClain, Dorothy Johnson, Naomi Tramble, S.L. Lacy, Lucille Johnson, Phoebia Ann Hibbitt, and Gussie Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Rose Johnson of Wewoka; four daughters, Izora Wigley of Denver, Colo., Brenda Banks of Shawnee, Diedra Johnson and Lekisha Johnson, both of Wewoka; seven sons, Tommy Johnson Jr. of California, Eric Johnson of Tulsa, Rodney Johnson, Jerome Johnson, Tracy Johnson, and Lenny Johnson, all of Wewoka, and Richard Johnson of Korea; 23 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
G. Leo Harrison
Funeral services for G. Leo Harrison are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2001 at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Herschel Davis and T.C. Evans officiating. Burial is to be in Wolf Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Wake services are set for 6:30 p.m. tonight at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Harrison died Monday, March 5, 2001 at his home in Maud at the age of 83. He was born on July 21, 1918 in Hazel to Daniel H. Harrison and Geneva (Notham) Harrison. Harrison was a lifelong Seminole County resident. He married Nora Williams in 1968, she preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 1985. Harrison was of the Baptist faith and attended Punkin Center (Central School) east of Maud. He was a retired masonry worker. Harrison was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jerry Cline; four brothers; and four sisters. He is survived by four children, Kenneth Williams of Wewoka, Lindsey Bondoni of McLoud, Arthur Cline of Maud, and Evonne Cline Berryhilll of Prague; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Casket bearers are to be Johnny Cline, Chevy Cline, Michael Williams, Tony Berryhill, Joseph Davis, Andrew Turnbow, and Edward Turnbow. Honorary bearers are Charley Williams, Newman Williams, M.D. Fowler, Lester Heffley, Barney Coker, Jr., and Rev. Lois Martin.
Charles ‘Jiggs’ Johnson
Charles “Jiggs” S. Johnson Jr., passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Presbyterian hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 68. Jiggs was born on July 14, 1932 to Charles S. Johnson and Josephine (Stevens) Gayler in Wewoka. He was a member of Hilltop Indian Presbyterian Church in Wewoka. He attended Sams school, Ong school, and Euchee boarding school. He continued his education earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Service from East Central University in Ada. On March 15, 1953, Jiggs married Sue Ann Kilcrease in Wewoka. He was a member of the United States Air Force and the United States Army. He also served wit the 45th Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict. First Sgt. Johnson retired from the Oklahoma Army National Guard after 38 years of service. First Sgt. Johnson served in all assignments with honor. His decorations and awards give proof of his outstanding military service to his country. Among those awards and decorations he received were Meritorious Service Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, Army of Occupation Japan, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NCO Professional Developmental Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas TNG Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, Oklahoma Distinguished Service Medal, Oklahoma Meritorious Service Medal, Oklahoma Select Reserve Medal, Oklahoma Commendation Medal, Oklahoma State Active Duty Medal, Oklahoma Long Service Medal (38 years), and Oklahoma Good Conduct Ribbon. He was actively involved in numerous civic and tribal organizations during his lifetime which included the Seminole Nation General Council Newcomer Band Representative, 45th Infantry Division Association, Seminole County Indian Credit Association, VFW Post 1311, DAAV’s, American Legion member, Seminole Roads Committee, Seminole Nation Housing Improvement Advisory Board, Seminole Nation Revision Committee, AARP, and other various organizations. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sue Ann (Kilcrease) Johnson, two brother, Raymond Lee Johnson, and Tommy Gayler; one grandson, Davey Lee Jacobs, and one granddaughter, Stacey Leann Johnson. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Charles S. and Carol Johnson III, Steven K. Johnson and Vicki Allen, Lewis and Geri Johnson, all of Wewoka, Stanley and Teri Johnson of Sasakwa; daughters and sons-in-law, Betsy Castell of Seminole, Corrine and David L. Postoak of Sasakwa, Susan and Danny Faulkner, Mary Ellen Jacobs, all of Wewoka; two brothers, Larry and Kenneth Gayler, both of Wewoka; 28 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was brought to the home at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, with services being held at 7:30 p.m. He will then be taken to the Ministry of Life Church in Wewoka on Wednesday, March 7, for allnight Wake Service beginning at 7:30 p.m. At 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, he will be taken to Hilltop Presbyterian Church in Wewoka where funeral services are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Interment will be at the Stevens Family Cemetery, north of Wewoka, under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.
Burley ‘Bill’ Wimberly
Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident Burley Okus “Bill” Wimberly, 82, were held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Floyd Tate and Jess Power officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. He died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Pioneer Nursing Home. Wimberly was born on Feb. 23, 1919 in Bluffton, Ark. to Ode Wimberly and Pearl (Kinney) Wimberly. He married Roberta Earles on July 9, 1968 in Oklahoma City. Wimberly was employed with O.G. & E. for 40 years. He was drafted in the Army in 1939 and served with the army engineers 74th Light Platoon. He received an honorable discharge on July 12, 1944. Wimberly taught adult bible classes in several churches in the Seminole area including the Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Tri City Christian Center. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of the home; three children, Billy John Wimberly, Gwen Wimberly Acosta, and Mike Wimberly; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Traci Hooper
Traci Jean Hooper, 14, died Friday, March 2, 2001, as a result of a traffic accident. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday March 7, 2001 at Rock Spring Indian Baptist Church in Sasakwa with Rev. Bill Barnett officiating. Interment is to be in Rock Spring Church Cemetery in Sasakwa under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. She was born on Nov. 10, 1986 in Ada to Danny Joe Hooper and Greda Lynn (Coon) Hooper. She was an eighth grade student at Seminole Middle School and a member of the Rock Spring Baptist Church in Sasakwa. Hooper was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Arthur Coon. She is survived by her mother, Greda Hooper of the home; her maternal grandmother, Eliza Coon of Sasakwa; one sister, Kasandra Hooper of Holdenville;
Felicia ‘Peggy’ Coffman
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Felicia “Peggy” Orean Coffman, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7,2001 at Strothers Chapel in Maple Grove Cemetery with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial is to be in Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Coffman was born in Blackwell on Sept. 24, 1920 to Felix Orean Prunty and Ada Maude (Knight) Prunty. She move to Seminole from Blackwell in 1946. Coffman was a homemaker, a member of Eastern Star and a painter of art. She married Roy L. “Bid” Coffman in 1947 in Denison Texas. Coffman was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Helen Peppard. She is survived by her husband of the home; two sons, Charles Jenkins of Madill, and Roy L. Coffman Jr. of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Rebecca Cook of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Adaline Copeland of Kingfisher, and Maudine Prunty of Norman; five grandchildren; and several other family members.
