Mildred Nall

Funeral services for Wewoka resident, Mildred Delta Nall are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wewoka Church of Christ. Burial is to be at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Nall died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at Holdenville General Hospital at the age of 87. She was born on Oct. 1, 1913 to George E. Able and Nettie Bell (Tucker) Able in Wewoka. She celebrated her 70th wedding anniversary with her husband, Howard Nall on July 9, 2000. The couple wed on July 9, 1930 in Wewoka. Nall was a member of the Church of Christ and was baptized in October, 1935. She was a homemaker. Nall was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Delta Lynn; her son, Joe Phillip Nall; and her sisters. She is survived by her husband of the home; and numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.

Steven Hager

Funeral services for Wewoka resident, Steven Lee Hager, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel. Interment is to be in Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Hager died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at Holdenville General Hospital at the age of 44. He was born on April 18, 1956 at Mentor, Ohio to Robert and Frankie (Nolan) Hager. He was reared in the Indiana and Mississippi areas. Hager married Jan Neill in Gulfport, Miss on Nov. 9, 1979. They later moved to Wewoka in 1982. He worked as a laborer for many years and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Hager enjoyed motorcycles and repairing cars. He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Kelvin Hager. He is survived by his wife of the home; his children, Jessica McClanahan of Wewoka, and Victoria Boardus of Las Vegas, Nev.; Theresa Williams of Allen, Texas, and Leif Nevener of Tulsa; his mother; one brother, David Freel of Knoxville, Tenn.; five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

William Robison

Graveside services for Konawa resident William James Robison will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2001 at the Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home. The Rev. Mitch Williams will officiate. Robison was born on April. 14, 1919. in Frankston, Texas to Elizabeth (Clackly) and William James Robison Sr. He married Margie Lee (Burton) on May 20, 1954 in Lovington N.M. He was a rancher and lived for the past 45 years in the Konawa area. He served in the U.S. Air Force serving in World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors are: his wife of the home; two sons, William James Robison III of Houston, and Ronnie Lee Robison of Roff; four daughters; Cathy Lee Sipes of Atoka, Vivian Lee of Bonham, Texas, Donna Hargus of Macomb, Linda Bryant of Asher; one brother, Audrey Robison of Frankston, Texas; 12 grandchildren and two great-grand children.

Madeline Conner

Madeline Geraldine (Hayes) Conner, a Wewoka resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001 at the Holdenville General Hospital at the age of 76. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Factor officiating. Interment is to be at the Grant Chapel Cemetery in Welty under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. She was born June 16, 1924 in McCawber, to William Charlie Hayes and Martha Jane (Ashlock) Hayes. Conner attended grade school in McCawber and Paden High School where she graduated in 1944. She married George Conner on June 17, 1944 in Okemah. Conner moved from Welty to Wewoka in 1959. She was a member of Grant Chapel Methodist Church in Welty. Conner was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Vernia Rice; and two brothers, Leo Hayes, and Albert Hayes. She is survived by two sons, George Conner Jr. of Shawnee, and Gary Conner of Wewoka; three sisters, Ancy Isbell, and Loretta Adams, both of Oklahoma City, and Venita Cresap of Shawnee; one brother Adrian Hayes of Manahands, Texas; one grandson; two stepgrandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are to be Donald Conner, Donnie Judy, Carl McCullen, Jimmie Cresap, Joey Yahola, and Leon Hayes. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her nephews.

Russell O’Neal

Funeral services for Wewoka native, Russell P. O’Neal, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. Interment is to follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Oklahoma City. O’Neal died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001 at the age of 70. He was born on April 13, 1930 in Wewoka. O’Neal was a fiddle player who was always willing to play benefits. He performed with Bob Wills, Mathis Brothers, and Jude & Jodie. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and was an Oklahoma Champion Fiddle player. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and four sisters. O’Neal is survived by his wife, Eloise, of the home; and a host of friends.

Betty Haws

Betty Jean (Walker) Haws was born Aug. 3, 1926 to Robert L. and Nelia Walker in Punkin Center (East of Maud), Oklahoma. She graduated from Wolf High School. On June 23, 1946, she married the love of her life, Buddy Lewis Haws. From this wedded bliss, five children were born. Preceding her in death were her husband, Lewis, on May 16, 1974; her parents; one brother; two sisters; and three sons-in-law. Her survivors are Gloria and Grady Stalnaker, James and Becky Haws, Sharon and Don Stewart, Gayla and Jon Cotterman, and Debbie Blackwell, all of Maud; grandchildren, Neal and Terry Hale, Brian and Jeff Haws, Jackie and LaChrisa Gamble, Kevin Stewart, Tracy Johnson Heather Sweet, Jennifer Ramer, Keith Cotterman, Amanda, Buddy, and Courtney Blackwell; Great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Ashley Hale, Destinie and Garrett Haws, Brooke and Jaycee Gamble, Jessica Johnson, Daniel Sweet, and Lexus Stewart. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family dearly. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Maud with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will be at Cummings Cemetery, Maud. Knight Funeral Home of Maud is in charge of the arrangements. Her grandsons will serve as casket bearers. Betty was loved very much by her family and will be missed so very much.

Lorraine McDonald

Funeral services for Lorraine Eve McDonald, a longtime Seminole resident, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial is to be in Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. McDonald died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001 at Seminole Medical Center under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. She was born on Feb. 11, 1919 in Dustin to John H. Gray and Tina Mae (Bates) Gray. McDonald grew up and attended schools in Dustin. She worked as a shipbuilder during World War II and operated a vegetable stand west of Seminole for several years. McDonald was also an employee of Blue Bell for 10 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley McDonald, on Dec. 2, 1989. McDonald is survived by three sons, Don Prater of Shawnee, Richard Prater of Seminole, and James Kimbral of Enid; one brother, Carl Threlkeld of Tulsa; three sisters, Jane Fletcher of Shawnee, Tina Mae Howard of California, and Shirley Coker of Tulsa; and six grandchildren.

Curtis ‘Crow’ Loftis

Funeral services for Curtis Marvin “Crow” Loftis, 78, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rudy Ross officiating. Burial was at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Loftis died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001 at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born on Sept. 4, 1922 in Perry County, Ark. to Henry Loftis and Francis (Cline) Loftis. Loftis married Cassie Ann Katherine Durham in 1942. She preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 1995. He was a truck driver for Independent Tank Company for 54 years, retiring in 1988. Loftis was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. In addition to his wife, Loftis was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Donnie Loftis in 1964, and Darrell Loftis in 2000; and three sisters, Nona Abney, Opal Howard, and an infant sister. He is survived by two sons, William Loftis of Earlsboro, and Gary Loftis of Tecumseh; two daughters, Rose Taylor of Shawnee and Kathy Clodfelter of Seminole; two sisters, Alta Hatchell and Virginia Rush, both of Seminole; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Etta Hopson

Funeral services for former Maud teacher, Etta Belle Roberts Hopson, 94, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001 at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas. Burial was at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston under the direction of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons of Houston, Texas.. Hopson died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001 in Houston. She was born Sept. 28, 1906, two miles east of Arcadia in Indian Territory on land that her father staked during the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889. Hopson was the daughter of Edward Benton and Ethelda Rachel Sweat Roberts. She graduated from Luther High School were her father served on the district’s school board. Hopson graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1930 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. She married Clyde Cecil Tolen on Oct. 25, 1929 in Shawnee. The couple lived in Mission, Texas where they owned an orange grove. She taught school in the Mission Public School after the death of her husband in 1940. She married Stephen E. Hopson of Houston, Texas in 1946. Hopson then taught in the Houston Independent School District. She earned her Masters Degree in Elementary Education in 1950 from the University of Houston. Hopson retired in 1973, but continued teaching in a substitute roll for the next 13 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, O.U. Club of Houston, St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, Oklahoma Historical Society, The Luther Alumni Association, Round Barn Society of Arcadia and a lifetime member of Arcadia Heritage and Preservation Society. She was also preceded in death by her second husband in 1958; her parents; baby Ronald Tolen of Maud; and her brother, O.B. Roberts of Arcadia. Hopson is survived by her son, Clyde Hopson of Houston; her daughter, Danna Belle Ermis of Spring, Texas. Those desiring may make memorials to the Oklahoma Historical Society, Round barn Society of Arcadia, or the O.U. Foundation, 100 Timberdell Rd., Norman.

Junior Birdsell

Funeral services for Maud native, Junior Lee Birdsell, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God Church I Maud with Rev. Tim Martin officiating. Burial is to be in Cummings Cemetery under the direction of Knight Funeral Home. Birdsell died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001 in Denton, Texas at the age of 62. He was born Aug. 20,1938 in Maud to John William Birdsell and Ethel Gertrude “Gertie” Holbert. Birdsell was a retired pipeliner. He was preceded in death by his father on July 4, 1957; and his mother on July 27, 1985. Birdsell is survived by his wife, Sherry Birdsell of Denton, Texas; three daughters, Debra Wood of Yukon, Brenda Diemart of Eric, Kan., and Laura Birdsell of Denton, Texas; two sons, Dale Birdsell of Wichita Falls, Texas, and James Birdsell of Denton, Texas; one brother, John David Birdsell of Bryan, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Alta Yates

Graveside services for Alta Yates are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery in Kinmundy, Ill. under the direction of Neal Funeral Home. Yates died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001 at Pioneer Nursing Home at the age of 94. She was born on Sept. 10, 1906 to Charles and Sannie (Anthony) McClaine. Yates was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John W. Lee; two brothers, and one sister. Yates is survived by two sons, Bob Lee and John W. Lee, both of Seminole; one brother, John McClaine; and three grandchildren.

Alice Sancho

Funeral services for Seminole County native, Alice Sancho, 94, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Scipio Baptist Church in Lima with Rev. F.D. Cochran officiating. Burial is to be at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Wewoka. Sancho died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born on June 18, 1906 in Seminole County to William and Johnetta Tucker. Sancho was a member of Scipio Baptist Church and was a Church Mother and Member of Mission. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Sipiew Sancho; one daughter, Rebecca; one son, Willie Sancho; and several sisters and brothers. Sancho is survived by three grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Wallace Howard

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident, Wallace Howard, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Tulia Texas. Rev. Rob Lindley is to officiate the services. Rev. Ernie McGaughey, a retired Methodist minister, is to assist in the services. Burial is to be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia under the direction of Wallace Funeral Home. He died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001 at Baptist-St. Anthony’s Hospital in Amarillo, Texas at the age of 80. Howard was born on Sept. 13, 1920 in Asher. He married Sarah Snyder on May 4, 1946. Howard lived and ranched in Seminole for several years. The couple moved to Tulsa in 1988. He was employed by KerrMcGee until his retirement in 1982. Howard was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tulia and was active in the Boy Scouts. Howard was preceded in death by one brother, B.J. Howard. He is survived by his wife of the home; one daughter, Terressa Leonard of Oklahoma City; one son, Ben Howard of Tulia, Texas; one brother; Burvle Howard of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Bennie Howard and Jennell Thompson, both of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
