SHAWNEE – Funeral services for Dr. Kenneth A. Cherry, the father of a Seminole resident, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Chaplain Herry Smith is set to officiate.
Burial is to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Cherry died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002 at his home at the age of 69.
He was born Sept. 13, 1932 in Detroit, Mich. to Cecil and Virginia (Fike) Cherry.
He attended high school in Michigan and later graduated from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic.
Cherry was a Doctor of Chiropractics for 30 years in Oklahoma.
He married Jane Hood in 1960 in Las Vegas.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and received the Korean service ribbon, United Nations services medal, National Defense service medal, Merit Unit Commendation and the Korean service ribbon with two bronze service stars.
Cherry was a member of the Joint Chiropractic Association of Oklahoma, State Board of Chiropractic Examiners, and the Federation of Licensing Board of Chiropractic.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Cherry.
He is survived by his wife of Shawnee; four children, Kenneth Cherry Jr. of Arizona, Susan Scott of Seminole, Charles Cherry of Boley, and Jeffrey Cherry of Ft. Gibson; and eight grandchildren.
Jimmy Chesser
Graveside services for Jimmy Leon Chesser are scheduled for Monday in the Little Cemetery.
Larry Chesser and Bill Chesser are set to officiate.
Chesser died Friday evening, February 15, 2002 at his home in Wewoka at the age of 56.
He was born Nov. 14, 1945 in Wewoka to Benjamin Franklin and Ora Elizabeth (Dutey) Chesser.
He lived all his life in Wewoka.
Chesser married Virginia Kay (Arnold) Chesser on May 14, 1966 in Wewoka.
He was a member of the Gleaners Holiness Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Chesser is survived by his wife, Virginia Chesser of the home; five sisters, Maxine Nunn of Seminole, Peggy Harmon and Debbie Harrison, both of Wewoka, Minnie Morphis of Cromwell, and Patricia Morphis of Okemah; and four brothers, Larry Chesser, Frankie Chesser and Billy Chesser, all of Wewoka, and Benny Chesser of Holdenville.
Pallbearers are Anthony Chesser, John Morphis, Larry Chesser Jr., Amos Morphis, Randy Rich, Bill Chesser Jr.
Honorary Bearers will be Bill Chesser, Frankie Chesser and Benny Chesser.
David Choate
Funeral services for lifetime Seminole County resident David Jefferson Choate are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Services are to be held at First Freewill Baptist Church. Rev. Allen Wood is to officiate.
He is to be assisted by Rev. David McDougal.
Burial with military honors is to follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Choate died Sunday, June 23, 2002 at his home in Seminole.
He was 83.
He was born Jan. 25, 1919 in Ward Springs to Joseph Elmer and Ella Mae (Harrelson) Choate.
Choate married Veta Fern (Summers) Choate on Dec. 11, 1940 in Sasakwa.
He retired from Seminole Company in 1981.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
As a PFC during World War II, Choate received the Good Conduct Medal.
He was part of 506 A Aircraft stationed in Iwo Jima.
He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church.
Choate was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of the home; three sons, David L. Choate of McAlester, and John M. Choate and Jim D. Choate, both of Seminole; one daughter, Linda Holcombe of Tecumseh; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers are his grandsons: Jimmy Choate Jr., David Lee Choate Jr., Brian Choate, Jeffery Gorsuch, Aaron Matthew Choate, and Gary Mize.
Charles Christian
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Charles Douglas Christian are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Rev. Carl Whitefield will officiate the services.
Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Christian died Monday, Oct. 25, 2002 at the VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas at the age of 54.
He was born to Douglas Charles Christian and Agatha Celeste (Colvin) Christian on Jan. 17, 1948 in Oklahoma City.
Christian graduated from Oklahoma State University, then moved to Texas where he attended the University of Houston.
He was a retired computer programmer, and was of Baptist faith.
Christian was preceded in death by his father, Douglas.
He is survived by his mother, Agatha Christian, West Siloam Springs; and two sisters, Nancy Lloyd, Seminole and Lori Billups, Colcord.
Martha ‘Marty’ Christopher
WOODWARD – Funeral services for former Seminole resident Martha "Marty" Christopher are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Woodward First United Methodist Church.
Rev. Gary Holdeman is set to officiate.
Interment is to follow in the Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Billings Funeral Home.
Christopher died Saturday, March 16, 2002 at her home at the age of 61.
She was born Jan. 29, 1941 in Seagraves, Texas on Jan. 29, 1941.
Her father was an engineer for Atlantic Richfield Oil Company and moved his family to Great Bend, Kan. when she was two.
The family then relocated to Seminole where they lived for the next 10 years.
The family moved to Duncan in 1955, but returned to Seminole after her father became ill with cancer.
Christopher graduated from Seminole High School in 1959.
She attended one year at Vassar University in New York.
She completed her four year Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in German at the University of Oklahoma.
On Sept. 10, 1962, Christopher married John Christopher in Seminole, where they lived for the next three years.
She returned to school at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1984 after raising her children to earn her Social Studies Certification.
She began teaching at Woodward High School.
After teaching Social Studies for two years, Christopher began teaching German at Woodward.
She taught German there for 17 years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Christopher was a leader in the Happy Clover 4-H Club.
She served as President of the Woodward Jaycee Jaynes in 1969 was selected as the Outstanding Local President for the State of Oklahoma that year.
In 1993, she received the Oklahoma Education Association State Winner of Instructional Excellence Award.
In 1994, she received the Goethe Institute Certificate of Merit for achievements in furthering the study of the German Language and culture in America.
Christopher was named the Woodward District Teacher of the Year in 1997 and in 2000 was named the Oklahoma AATG German Teacher of the Year.
She was named the 2002 Oklahoma Secondary Teacher of the Year by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence just before being diagnosed with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1955; her mother in 1994; and her sister, Paula in 2001.
Christopher is survived by her husband of the home; two daughters, Carol Stoecker of Flower Mound, Texas, Jonna Buck of Norman, and Chris Christopher of Little Elm, Texas; and six grandchildren.
Morgan ‘Paul’ Claborn
Paul Claborn passed away April 9, 2002, at his home in Oklahoma City at the age of 60.
Paul was born on July 19, 1941 in Oklahoma City to Marshall and Lenora Claborn.
He graduated from Seminole High School and worked many years delivering milk for the family-owned Borden Milk Company.
He was an avid fisherman who spent most of his time fishing the ponds east of Seminole.
Paul was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his mother of Oklahoma City; his sister, Billie Loydean Beal of Oklahoma City; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Penny Claborn and Steve and Tracy Claborn, all of Seminole; and four grandchildren, Derek, Drew, Dillon and Madison Claborn, all of Seminole.
Private memorial services are scheduled for April 13, 2002.
