Alice Higdon

WICHITA, KANS. – Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Alice Ann Higdon are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at Central Church of Christ.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Downing & Lahey Mortuary.

Higdon died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002 at the age of 66.

She was born Feb. 28, 1936 in Vamoosa to Jess and Vera Russell.

She graduate from the Vamoosa School System and attended East Central University.

Higdon married Paul Higdon on Jun 2, 1955 in Konawa.

She received numerous honors for her paintings, including having one of her works selected to be part of the Trees of Christmas Exhibition in the National Museum of American History of the Smithsonian Institution of Washington, D.C.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Higdon is survived by her husband, Paul; one son, Phillip Higdon of Topeka; one daughter, Tammy Higdon of Little Rock, Ark.; two grandsons; her father; one brother, Jack Russell; and her sister, Linda Donor Clayton of Konawa.

A memorial has been established with Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, Texas, 75265 and the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd., Topeka, Kans., 66604.

Evelyn Hirn

Graveside funeral services for Evelyn Joyce (Williams) Hirn were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Little Cemetery.

Rev. Carl Whitfield was to officiate.

Services were under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Hirn died Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Seminole Estates Nursing Center at the age of 84.

She was born April 20, 1917 in Missouri to Sam and Margaret "Maggie" (Choate) Williams.

She married George Franklin Hirn, Jr. in 1938.

He preceded Hirn in death on July 15, 1965.

She retired from teaching school in 1988.

She had taught at Vamoosa, Camargo and Owasso.

Hirn was a member of the Owasso Methodist Church, OEA.

She graduated from East Central University in Ada.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Sammy Williams.

Hirn is survived by two sons, George "Frank" and Jane Etta Hirn of Seminole and Joe Dell Hirn of Mansville, Texas; two sisters, Joann Klintworth and Juanita Harrison, both of Tulsa; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Carl Hollis Jr.

A memorial service for Carl Hollis Jr. is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Konawa Cemetery.

Rev. Ed George is set to officiate.

The service is under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Hollis died Monday, June 24, 2002 at his home in Konawa at the age of 50.

He moved to the Konawa area 20 years ago from Bakersfield, Calif.

He was born June 18, 1952 in Bakersfield, Calif. to Carl Richard Hollis Sr. and Barbara Ann (Stokes).

Hollis worked in the paint and body auto repair business.

He was a member of Bethleham Baptist Church in Konawa.

He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Ryan Hollis, on May 12, 2001.

Hollis is survived by his mother of Konawa; his father of Bakersfield, Calif.; his companion, Patty Crummett of the home; two sons, Ricky Hollis and Eric Hollis, both of Bakersfield, Calif.; one daughter, Kerry Hawley of Bakersfield, Calif.; two granddaughters and four grandsons; and three sisters, Marjorie Maxwell and Shirley Hollis, both of Konawa, and Pat Colvin of Bakersfield, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bethleham Baptist Church in Konawa or the Victory Hospice of Ada.

Eunice Holt

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Eunice (Love) George Holt are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel.

Rev. Allen Wood is set to officiate.

Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Holt died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 at her home in Texas at the age of 83.

She was born Jan. 10, 1919 in Baldknob, Ark. to Merle and Nancy (Collier) Love.

She married Allan J. Holt on July 14, 1972 in Wolf. He preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1993.

Holt was a retired psychiatric tech.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Allan J. Holt.

She is survived by her sons, Les George, Allen George, Charles George, and Larry George; two daughters, Opal Hilton and Colleen Hobbs; one sister, Birdie Starr; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Juanita Hopper

Funeral services for Maud resident Juanita Catherine (Slaybaugh) Hopper were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Church of God at the intersection of Main St. and SH 9A in Maud.

Bro. Robert Bourn and Bro. Horace Griffin were set to officiate.

Burial is to follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Hopper died Saturday, June 29, 2002 at her home in Maud at the age of 94.

She was a longtime Maud resident and had moved to Maud from Sapulpa in 1937.

She was born March 12, 1908 in Glenco to John Anthony and Alice Mae (Robinson) Slaybaugh.

Hopper married Farris Derward Hopper on June 21, 1925 in Sapulpa.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God in Maud.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on May 31, 1964; one son, Raymond Hopper in 1956; and one daughter, Alice Glover in 1999.

Hopper is survived by five sons, Wilford Hopper of Tecumseh, Joe Hopper of Seminole, and Charles Hopper and Clarence Hopper, both of Maud; one daughter, Juanita Phillips of Maud; two sisters, Ruth Deason of Jay and Irene Hopper of California; 29 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Maddie Hopper

Funeral services for Maddie Lou (Robertson) Hopper are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Maud.

Rev. Charlie O’Daniel is set to officiate.

Burial is to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Hopper died Monday, April 8, 2002 at Grace Living Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 90.

She was born Feb. 15, 1912 in Lamar County, Ala. to Jessie Jarrett and Melinda Julie (Smith) Robertson.

She married General Baxter "G.B." Hopper on March 11, 1934 in St. Louis.

Hopper was a sales clerk at Goss Dry Goods in Maud for a couple of years.

Then, in the early 1970’s, she worked at Maud Public Schools until her retirement in 1996.

She was also a homemaker.

Hopper was a member of the Maud First Baptist Church. In 1981 she was Maud’s Christmas Parade Queen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on June 20, 1965; one son, Edward F. "Hoppy" Hopper on Jan. 11, 1992; one grandson, Jason Galyon in 1990; eight brothers; three sisters; and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by two daughters, Jean LeCompte of Shawnee and Sharron Galyon of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great- grandchildren; and two sisters, Willie May Robertson of Maud and Faye Higgs of Odessa, Texas.

Casket bearers will be her grandsons.

George Horn

Funeral services for George Houston Horn, Wewoka, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Stout Funeral Chapel.

Brother Larry Chesser will officiate. Burial is scheduled to follow in Little Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.

Horn died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at his Wewoka home, at the age of 75.

He was born March 24, 1927, in Stuart, to John Richard and Zora Bell (Herrod) Horn.

He was a painter, and settled in the Wewoka area 20 years ago, moving there from Holdenville.

He married Ester Geraldine Green on March 3, 1951, in Fort Smith, Ark. She survives him, of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Berniece Crane, Washington state, Ruby Todd, Turlock, Calif., and Carol Miller, Tulsa; two sons, George L. Horn, Wewoka, and Jack Horn, Seminole.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings: John, Abraham, Jack, Thomas and Ruby Horn, Mattie Horn Rail and Myrtle Horn Morrell.

Pallbearers will include Darrel Cornell, Ben and Chet Horn, Wesley Roe, Bart Hale and Clinton Glass.

Honorary pallbearers include Burton, Robert, Jerry and Jimmy Hale, and Morris B. Wade.
