TULSA – Funeral services for former Seminole resident Edith G. Landrum were held Tuesday at South Tulsa Baptist Church.
Dr. Lonnie Latham officiated.
Burial followed at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Bixby Funeral Service.
Landrum died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002 in Tulsa at the age of 83.
She was born April 10, 1919 in Yantis, Texas to Julius and Ethel Newson Gilbreth.
During World War II, she was a staff sergeant in the United States Army.
Landrum then became a Christian and was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Longview, Texas.
She met her future husband Levis O. "Dutch" Landrum while stationed in El Paso, Texas.
The couple was married on Sept. 4, 1945 in Las Cruces, N.M.
After the war, they moved to Seminole where she worked as a dental assistant and for the Oklahoma State Employment service.
Landrum was active in First Baptist Church where she taught youth Sunday School and later worked with bed babies.
After retirement, she moved to San Antonio, Texas, to join her only daughter, Mary Ann Stephens and her family.
She returned with her family to Oklahoma in 1990 and resided in Tulsa until her death.
Landrum was preceded in death by her parents and three older brothers.
She is survived by her husband of the home; one daughter, Mary Ann Stephens of Tulsa; and two grandchildren.
Wesley ‘Banks’ Lankford
Funeral services for Seminole resident Wesley A. "Banks" Lankford are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Rev. Doyle Long is set to officiate.
Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Lankford died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002 at his home at the age of 75.
He was born Oct. 30, 1926 in Beggs to William Wesley and Mamie (Haworth) Lankford.
He married Grace (McKee) on Feb. 26, 1949 in Seminole.
Lankford was a retired truck driver for Austin Drilling Co.
He was a member of Amazing Grace Pentecostal Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Arliss Lankford; one sister, Norma Jones; and one grandson, Johnathan Johnson.
Lankford is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Gary Lankford of Seminole and Jeff Lankford of Earlsboro; two daughters, Vicki Johnson and Connie Winlock, both of Seminole; four brothers, Roy Lankford of Francis and Jerry Lankford, James Lankford, and Steve Lankford, all of Hobart; two sisters, Betty Jones of Arkansas and Wanda Rogers of Hobart; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers are Jeremiah Case, Sherman Whitley, Gene McGinnis, Carl Seyfert, John Choate and A.P. "Sonny" Miller.
Donald Lansford
Funeral services for Seminole native Donald Gene Lansford were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.
Lansford died Friday, March 22, 2002 at his home in Oklahoma City.
He was born to Carnie Dee Lansford and Edna Bell Ramsey on March 18, 1929 in Seminole.
Lansford grew up in Oklahoma and California, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Shortly after an honorable discharge, Lansford came back to Oklahoma and began a career in the oil industry which spanned over 45 years.
He married George Ann Standridge on May 9, 1953 in Pauls Valley.
Lansford was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Theodore LaBarr Lansford.
He is survived by his wife, George Ann, of the home; four children, Georgene Buzarde Inks, Austin, Texas, Donald Gene Lansford II, Richmond, Texas, Gina Ann Jimmerson, Albuquerque, N.M., and Robert Lynn Lansford, Centennial, Colo.; one sister, Carolyn Miller Frink, Palm Springs, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
Eugene Lashley
Funeral services for Seminole resident Eugene Lashley are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel.
Rev. Rick Harrison is set to officiate.
Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Lashley died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 82.
He was born March 26, 1919 in Brown (Township) to Cornellious and Lizzie (Venson) Lashley.
He married Ola Mable (Chesser) in March of 1963 in Vernon, Texas.
Lashley was a truck driver for Austin Drilling for many years before retiring in the late 1970’s.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bowlegs.
Lashely was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, John Lashley in 1986 and Roger Lashley in 1970; one grandson, Johnny Lashley in 1965; three brothers and six sisters.
He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Ron Lashley of Carollton, Texas and Chuck Flewellen of Dayton, Ohio; four daughters, Linda Yancey and Debbie Anson, both of Seminole, and Kay Alvis and Lee Carol Flewellen, both of Sacramento, Calif.; one brother, Palmer Lashley of Redding, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Marie Stevens of Seminole.
Grandsons are to serve as casket bearers.
Etta Lawson
Funeral services for Etta Viola Lawson, mother of Wewoka resident Phyllis Houser, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Old Church Presbyterian Church in Bennington.
Rev. Charles Williams will officiate the services.
Burial will follow at the Old Church Cemetery in Bennington, under the direction of Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
Lawson died at Elmwood Nursing Home in Wewoka on Monday, Sept. 30, 2002 at the age of 90.
She was born to James Henry and Elsa May (Wescott) Larimore on April 29, 1912 in Stella, Mo.
Lawson married Ernest Mathew Lawson on Jan. 28, 1938 in Durant.
Lawson was a homemaker who loved gardening and working in her flowerbeds and growing flowers.
She attended the First Baptist Church in Bennington.
Lawson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Gene Larimore; and two sisters, Hattie Foster and Nell Doolittle.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne Lawson and Ronald Lawson, both of Seagoville, Texas; one daughter, Phyllis Houser, Wewoka; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Lawson’s grandsons.
Garland Lawson
Funeral services for Garland Loyd "Red" Lawson, brother of Wewoka resident Carl Lawson, were held Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Manassas, Va.
Interment followed at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, Va., under the direction of Price Funeral Home in Manassas.
Lawson died Saturday, June 29, 2002 at Annaburg Manor in Manassas at the age of 84.
Lawson served in World War II as a member of the 82nd Infantry Division under General George Patton.
After the war, he graduated from Oklahoma State University in Agricultural Engineering with a major in Mechanical Engineering.
He worked for the Oklahoma Natural Gas Company and then for a small natural gas company in Illinois.
Lawson spent a few years as chief engineer for the Interstate Tire Company in Iowa, and ran a factory, which manufactured residential commercial and industrial gas burners.
He was manager of the Fredericksburg Natural Gas Service from 1960 to 1963.
In 1963, he went into business for himself as an agent with the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States.
Lawson was instrumental in founding the TIP program in Prince William County in 1972.
He was a 32nd degree Mason, and was a member and past president of the Woodbridge Lions Club where he had perfect attendance for 22 years.
Lawson was president of United Way for Manassas and Manassas Park, and was Chairman of the Prince William County United Way from 1983-1986.
He was a member of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce from 1968 to 1975 where he served as president and acted as counselor for S.C.O.R.E.
Lawson established the first service unit for the Salvation Army in Prince William County in 1967, and was appointed a life member of the advisory board.
He was a founder of the Vocational Education Foundation in Prince William County, serving as a treasurer and chairman of the advisory board.
In 2001 and 2002, several scholarships were awarded by the foundation in his name.
Lawson was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Dutton Lawson in 1978; one brother, Arthur Lawson; and one sister, Pauline Bullard.
He is survived by his second wife of 22 years, Nancy Parrish Haydon Lawson; one step-daughter, Victoria Haydon Bonifant, Martinsburg, Va.; two step-sons, Richard Challice Haydon, Lexington, Ky. and Geoffrey Jennings Haydon, Atlanta, Ga; one brother, Carl Lawson, Wewoka; and six step-grandchildren.
