Olan C. Tilley, 93, of Wewoka, passed away at his home April 19.
He was born in Heber Springs, Ark. on July 3, 1908, to the late John Oscar and Mamie Salter Tilley.
Tut and Eadith Cummings were married on Oct. 3, 1930, and they shared 71 years together, raising their family during which time,
Tut joined the United States Army on Dec. 10, 1942, and fought in the India and Burma Campaigns during World War II.
He returned home and lived in Wewoka for 58 years while operating his own drilling company until he retired.
Mr. Tilley was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his wife, of the home and two children, Mike Tilley, Wewoka, and Judy Tilley Bivens and her husband, Robert of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Owen Tilley, Tulsa, Jason Tilley, Boston, Mass., and Tricia Bivens, Apache; six great-grandchildren, Jamie Taylor, Cassie Taylor, Jennifer Taylor, Steven Bivens, Dakota Bivens, Olivia Faith Tilley; two sisters, Lorene Visconty, Seattle, Wash. and Loreta Bush, Midwest City; one brother, Lyndell Tilley, Riverton, Wyo.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Fern Claybrook and Loyce Gremore and three brothers, Noel, Orville and Virgil Tilley.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2002, at the Assembly of God Church, Wewoka, with Pastor Perry Justus and Rev. Bruce Benson officiating.
Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Jim Morphis, Dan Ervin, Will Justus, Jacob Lujan, Robert Knapp, and Loyal Mantooth.
Honorary pallbearers are John Grimes, John Norman, Ron Good, Bill Bland, Johnny Vaughn and Ernest Moore.
Ruby Timmons
Funeral services for Seminole resident Ruby Avirl Timmons were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Chris Stinnett officiated.
Burial followed at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Timmons died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002 at Pioneer Nursing Home at the age of 82.
She was born Nov. 23, 1919 in Stigler to John Andrew and Rosie Etta (Legrand) Lofton.
She married Willie "Bill" Timmons on May 1, 1952 in Wichita, Kans.
Timmons was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of the home; and one daughter, Mary Colleen Strong of Clarinda, Iowa.
Casket bearers are Paul Lofton, Robert Lofton, Terry Lofton, Keith Lofton, Bill Parker, and Howard Rankin.
Donald E. Tolle
CUSHING – Funeral services for former Seminole resident Donald E. Tolle were scheduled for this afternoon in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home.
Dale Wells is set to officiate.
Burial was to follow in the Euchee Valley Memorial Park under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Tolle died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002 at his home in Cushing at the age of 78.
He was born April 4, 1924 in Rushville, Ill. to Claude E. and Goldia Tolle.
His family then moved to Oklahoma and he was raised and educated in the Seminole area.
Tolle entered the United States Navy on Sept. 12, 1941 and served in the Pacific Campaign during World War II.
He was a musician and had recently been inducted into the Oklahoma County Music Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Berneice Cook of Cushing; two daughters, Deanne M. Haus of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Leanna M. Cannon of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Bob Tolle of Dallas, Texas and Don B. Schooley of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Ruth Woods of Cushing; one brother, Gerald R. Tolle of Boron, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Tolle was preceded in death by one daughter, Claudia D. Davis; and two brothers, Harold M. Tolle and George W. Tolle.
The family requests memorials be made to the Judith Harman Hospice.
Jimmie Trammell
Funeral services for former Seminole area resident Jimmie Dale Trammell are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Dr. Bob Birdwell will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Trammell died Thursday at his Shawnee home at the age of 75.
He was born Sept. 4, 1927, in Prague to William F. and Audry (Schwantes) Trammell.
He graduated from Centerview High School, north of Seminole.
He served in the US Army from 1945 to 1947, receiving an honorable discharge.
He worked for Canadian Valley Electric from Feb. 6, 1952, until his retirement as staking supervisor in 1991.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Shawnee.
Trammell married Maxie June Scarborough on Oct. 5, 1950, in Wewoka.
He later married Mary Joann Eastman on June 10, 1977. She survives him, of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Jimmie Dale Trammell Jr., Danny Floyd Trammell and Roger Barry Trammell; two stepdaughters, Margaret Ann Neighbors and Marilyn Sue Jones; one sister, Mary Lee Gentry; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson; three stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Paul David Trammell; one grandson, Curtis Scott Trammell; and two brothers, Claude Harris Trammell and Jack William Trammell.
Mary Turner
Funeral services for Mary Wilma Turner, 79, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Stout-Phillips Chapel.
Revs. Namiqa A. Shipman and Meredith Robinson will officiate.
Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Turner died Aug. 5, 2002, in Heritage Village Nursing Home, Holdenville.
She was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Searcy County, Ark., to Walter V. Shipman and Leanna Jay Ragland Shipman.
She grew up in the Stonewall area, graduating from Stonewall High School in 1941.
She attended East Central State College in Ada and was employed by Security State Bank until her retirement in 1990.
She was married to Simon L. Bramlett, who died in 1966.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mildred Smelser.
She married George S. Turner, Holdenville, on April 5, 1990. He survives her, of the home.
Other survivors include one brother, Bill Shipman, Maud; three nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will include Cato Jones, Mark Barnhart, James K. Lively, Fred Smith, Dale Williams and Richard Ellwanger.
Honorary pallbearers will include L.D. Tribble, Vic Watts, Merle Belford and Ralph Roush.
Lawrence Venis
Funeral services for longtime Seminole and Hughes County resident Lawrence Howard Venis are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Free Will Baptist Church in Holdenville.
Revs. Russell Payne and Allen Wood will officiate.
Burial will follow the service at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home of Holdenville.
Venis died Sunday, March 24, 2002 in Shawnee at the age of 81.
He was born to John Venis and Janie (Roberts) Venis on Aug. 3, 1920 in Stuart.
Venis attended school in Yeager and was raised in the Hughes County area.
He lived most of his life in the Seminole and Hughes County areas and owned several motels and restaurants in the area.
Venis married Juanita Eubanks on June 3, 1939. She preceded him in death on March 8, 1983.
He later married Anzel Logan.
A veteran of World War II, Venis served in the Military Police division of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Anzel, of the home; two daughters, Peggy Parker, Houston, Texas, and Francis Lofton, Stratford; one son, Dwain Venis, Oklahoma City; six stepchildren, Don and Jimmie Logan, Wewoka, Sharon and Jim Hutchinson, Dallas, Texas, and Lana and Denis Senechel, Edmond; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Homer Parker, James Lofton, Glynn Parker, Gary Bratcher, Shane Venis and Taylor Parker.
Mary Vernado
Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Mary Maple (Stevenson) Vernado were scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today in Chicago.
Burial was to follow in Chicago under the direction of Brookins Funeral Home.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Myers Mortuary.
Vernado died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002 in Chicago at the age of 68.
She was born Jan. 31, 1934 in Wewoka to Mose and Daisy Stevenson.
She graduated from Douglas School in Wewoka.
Vernado attended Langston University for a year before moving to Kansas City, Mo. and then to Chicago, Ill.
She worked for the Illinois Board of Education before retiring in 2002.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert Louis Stevenson; and three sisters, Josephine Stevenson, Wilma Jean Malone, and Blinzie Watterson.
Vernado is survived by her husband, Robert Vernado of Chicago, Ill.; four daughters, Donna Johnson of Chicago, Ill., Cheryl Woods of Atlanta, Ga., Sherry Billingslea of Lewisville, Texas, and Luwanda Byrd of Wewoka; two sons, Arthur Smith of Chicago, Ill. and Keith Shelton of Texas; three brothers, Wilbur Stevenson, Alphonso Stevenson, and Willie Stevenson, all of Wewoka; one sister, Earnesine Gray of Oklahoma City; and a host of grandchildren.
