Lela Roberta (Earles) Wimberly, 91, went to be with the Lord on July 28, 2002.
She was born on May 3, 1911 in Seminole to James Alexander and Cora Myrtle (Johnson) Earles.
Roberta had a colorful influence on the town and residents of Seminole for more than 75 years. She was born and raised in Seminole and graduated from Seminole High School in 1928.
In 1937, she was the "Waltz Lady." She beautifully played piano for a radio music show on station KGFF in Shawnee.
Mostly remembered as a no nonsense lover of music, she could often be overheard very firmly encouraging others that they too should appreciate music just as much as she.
She possessed the amazing ability to explain the fundamentals and basics of music theory in simple language so as to be easily understood by anyone.
She taught piano, guitar, accordion and organ for more than 50 years to students of all ages in and around Seminole.
She directed many, many music recitals using local schools and churches.
The recitals included instrumentals, vocals, as well as humorous skits. She also took many of her students to statewide competitions.
One of her most loved activities was the share the love of God through her music to nursing home residents of Seminole for more than 30 years.
She and her beloved husband, Bill, often had seasonal programs which usually included students from her music studio.
Mrs. Wimberly was a lifelong attendee of the Seminole Pentecostal Holiness Church (now Amazing Grace Church) where she played piano and organ.
On Nov. 9, 1968, she married Burley Okus "Bill" Wimberly. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2001.
Also preceded her in death were her parents; brother, Buell F. Earls (Jan. 14, 1960) and two sisters, Ruby Irene Griffin Daigle (1936) and Vivian Marie Roberts (April 29, 1967).
She is survived by her sister, Lucille Sarah Owen of Oklahoma City; nieces Elizabeth Boragno of Fresno, Calif., Louise Willis of Dallas, Texas, Sara Hand of Oklahoma City, Kasey Smith of Carrollton, Texas, and nephews, Jerrell Daigle of Stuart, Tenn., Charles Owen of Oklahoma City, and Jim Roberts of Abilene, Kans.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Rev. Floyd Tate and Rev. Jess Powers will officiate.
Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
Casket bearers are Gene McGinnis, John Choate, Jeff Owen, Curtis Owen, Guy Hand, and T.J. Hand. Honorary bearers are Charles Owen, Jim Roberts, Johnny Johnson, and Steven Smith.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Eastman Wise
Funeral services for Wewoka native Eastman Ray Billie Wise are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Meeker High School Gym.
A wake service is to be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the family home in Meeker.
Burial is to follow at New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Wise died Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at University Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 22.
He was born Nov. 15, 1979 in Wewoka to Lawanna Ward.
He was a 1999 graduate of Meeker High School where he was on the football and basketball teams.
Wise was currently employed at Thunderbird Entertainment Center.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Meeker.
He is survived by his mother of Meeker; his grandparents who raised him as a son, Teresa and Evans Wise of Meeker; three brothers, Justin Alexander of Meeker, Joseph Billie of Foley, Ala., and Evans Wise Jr. of North Carolina; and six sisters, Sunny Alexander of Meeker, Tina Hendrix of Oklahoma City, Alisha Valdez of Germany, Khristie Youngblood of Edmond, Ashley Clayton of Oregon, and Lisa Burchett of Shawnee.
Honorary pallbearers are Donnie Gibson and Wes Larney.
Henry ‘Skeeter’ Wise
Funeral services for Henry "Skeeter" Wise are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Middle Creek #2 Baptist Church in Hughes County.
Rev. Houston Tiger is set to officiate.
Interment is to follow at Middle Creek #2 under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.
Wise died Friday, March 22, 2002 at Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 66.
He was born March 25, 1925 in Holdenville to Walter and Mary Bruner Wise.
He was raised in Holdenville and was a welder prior to retiring for health reasons.
Wise moved to Shawnee 17 year ago and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Thomas McGeisey Sr. and Eugene McGeisey; and one daughter, Lorene Wise.
Wise is survived by one son, Herschel Wise of Dallas, Texas; five daughters, LaNore Wise of Shawnee, Leona Kernell and Leatrice Lookinglass, both of Oklahoma City, Letha Wise of Tahlequah, and Lou Ann Blanchard of Norman; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Thomas McGeisey Jr., Franklin D. McGee, George W. McCombs III, Thunder Wise, Jarell Wise, and Joe Blanchard.
Honorary pallbearers are Trevor Wise and Darren Kernell.
Keley Wise Sr.
Funeral services for Konawa resident Keley Wise Sr., are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rock Springs Baptist Church in Sasakwa.
Rev. Dan Factor will officiate the services.
Wake services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Konawa.
Burial will follow the funeral services on Wednesday at Rock Springs Church Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.
Wise died Saturday, April 27, 2002 at his home in Konawa at the age of 71.
He was born to Webster Wise and Annie (Coon) Wise on Oct. 20, 1930 in Seminole.
Wise was a life-ling Seminole County resident, and was a common laborer by trade.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, and was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church of Sasakwa.
Wise was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Keley Wise Jr., and Steven Wise; and one brother, Henry Harry.
He is survived by four sons, Eric Wise, Seminole, Kaylon Wise, East Helena, Mont., Duke Allen Wise, Davis, Calif., and Jeremiah Lee Wise, Tulsa; six daughters, Bessie Wise, Oklahoma City, Ruth Ann McGlory, Topeka, Kan., Cindy Lou Griffitts, Wichita, Kan., Joyce Ann Williams, Konawa, Evangeline Stallings, Tulsa, and Kathylon Sue Wise, Bowlegs; two brothers, Alford Wise and William Wise, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; 27 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
Dickie ‘Byrd’ Wood Jr.
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident Dickie "Byrd" McLish Wood are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Rev. Sandy Harjo is set to officiate.
Burial is to follow at the Wood family cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Wood died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002 in Oklahoma City at the age of 30.
He was born July 15, 1971 in Seminole to Dick McLish and Susan Marie (Champ) Wood.
He was service manager at Mobil Care in Oklahoma City.
Wood was a member of the Tusekia Harjo Band ¼.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Munnaha Wood and Zella and James Champ; and one sister, Kimberly Wood.
He is survived by his parents, Dick Wood of Tyler, Texas and Susan Wood of Oklahoma City; one son, Tanner McLish Wood of Konawa; one step-daughter, Allison Frazier of Konawa; the mother of his children, Mysti Splawn of Konawa; one brother, Richard Wood; and two sisters, Christy Wood of Midwest City and Monica Wood of Oklahoma City.
Ollie Wood
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident Ollie Wood are scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka.
Rev. Houston Tiger is set to officiate.
Interment is set to follow in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.
Wake services are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel.
Wood died Thursday, Feb. 28 at the age of 87.
She was born in Sasakwa on Dec. 31, 1914, to Fulka and Lucy Harjo.
Wood grew up in the Sasakwa area and lived there for 60 years, before moving to Wewoka in 1975.
She married Tom "Doxie" Wood in Ft. Smith, Ark., in 1934, and he preceded her in death in 1975.
Wood attended Spring Church, and was active in Women’s Missionary Unit all of her adult life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.
She is survived by her son Robert Wood, Sasakwa, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Pallbearers are Lloyd Harjo, Randy Coody, Gerald Harjo, Josh Punutka, Mickey Porter, and Richard Harjo Jr.
